We have been eating at The Sinaloa since 1985 and even though we have long since moved away we still hold it as the standard for Mexican food. Without a doubt the best Margaritas "on the rocks" in town. Fresh made to order using well over a shot of Suaza Tequila per glass. Unfortunately the price has gone up a bit over the last few years. I have been going here for over 15yrs. At one point it was the BEST AROUND. It has really gone down hill in the last year. I continue to go because they do have the best shredded chicken salad. I don't what's in the chicken but it has a flavor I can't find anywhere else. Their famous red salas is also to die for. Too bad I'm not 21, because this place's margaritas are aparentley a killer. I happen to a huge fan of the super hot homemade red salsa that comes with the chips, it's a must! The customer service and atmosphere are really good, however I suggest not going on a busy Friday night at 6:30. Because the food just doesn't seem to be as good after an hour and half long wait standing up against a crowded wall full of loud old ladies and screaming children. Sinaloa's is the Bomb! Perfect hang out for drinks and food! I am very surprised by all the negative reviews. Order a create your own burrito with chicken, rice n beens inside, and request Chile Colorado sauce on top enchilada style with cheese! I always get a side of Guac and extra Chile colorado sauce to go with it. Their chips taste different because they are REAL tortillas deep fried, not your plastic bag pre-packaged Doritos! Live life and stop complaining so much, have a beer or Cadi Margarita and call it a day! read more

ZERO stars!!!! Food is below average, at best. Drinks are overpriced. Staff is arrogant. Service is disgusting. We had a group of eight. Two of our orders were not provided. When we told the server, he ignored us and never brought the items (but did charge us for them). He then had the audacity to charge an auto 18% tip, even on the items we didn't get. I guess that's why we never could get him to come to our table for service........ Don't go. We agreed we'll never return to Sinaloa!! Try any other Mexican restaurant in Morgan Hill. We have been going to Sinaloa for over 35 years. This was our special place, and we went there for family celebrations and great food. My favorite, and what I ordered almost every time, was the chile verde dinner. When we heard that Steve and Ophelia had turned their business to new owners, we prayed it would not change this special place and the food we loved. We went there recently, and I ordered my favorite chile verde dinner. The first thing was noticing on the menu that it now cost nearly $18.00! The appetizer chips were different and nowhere near as good as before. And then when I got the chile verde dinner, my heart sank. The rice was something completely different, and, frankly, horrid. And the chile dinner should have been called tomatillo dinner. The sauce appeared to be mostly tomatillo and was very runny. I could barely taste a hint of chile in it. I am profoundly saddened that I can't think of a reason to ever return to Sinaloa Cafe. The magic is totally gone! read more

Being almost local I have always heard that Sinaloa Cafe has great margaritas and great food so on a Sunday as we were looking for something to eat we decided to see what all the talk is about. Sadly, I was very dissapointed. I first ordered the fish taco (battererd fish) dinner and my husband ordered the chiles rellenos plate. A few minutes later the waitress came back to our table to inform me that they were out of fish and if I'd like to order something else. She recommended the shrimp tacos and I could get shrimp battered, so I complied. A few minutes later she came back to the table to inform me that they are out of batter and if I would like the shrimp not battered...I complied. While waiting on our food I saw them bring 2 strawberry daquiris to a table and the waiter mentioned to the family that they were out of whipped cream so they didn't add the whipped cream topping to their drinks. We waited quite some time for our food to arrive and when it did arrive it looked ok, nothing spectacular. My husbands plate had two thin chiles rellenos, rice and beans and was just ok. My plate had 2 tacos, rice and beans. The rice was tasteless. My tacos were not as decribed on the menu, the menu read they were suppose to be topped with cabbage, pico de gallo and sour cream and when I received my plate they were topped with some pace picante tyoe salsa (which made my tortillas too soggy and ripped), lettuce, a half slice of tomato and shredded cheese. I was actually looking forward to the cabbage, pico de gallo and sourcream. What's a fish or shrimp taco without cabbage and sour cream. One thing that really bothers me is when restaurants don't have consitency, the tacos should have been prepared as described on the menu. So on the way out I double checked the menu and sure enough they were not prepared as described. I also had one of their famous margaritas and I must say that it is not anything spectacular...it's a margarita just like any other margarita and definitely not worth the price tag. If you were a fan of the Peña's Sinaloa, you may not care for this one. Having eaten at the Peña's restaurant(s) for 33 years we were sorely disappointed in last week's visit with family and friends to the "new" Sinaloa under different ownership. Everything about it is different except the name and address. Substantially higher prices (an unwarranted 33% more in my case), lethargic margaritas instead of the robust Peña versions, food that rivals the standard stuff found at the "C" chains, chips are standard run of the mill things now, etc. It's as if the building was picked up and a different restaurant rolled under it. Service was OK, however. But it's too bad they kept the name - very misleading for "old" fans. Dismaying. Like losing a good friend after 33 years. I suppose the new Sinaloa may develop its own devout following but it won't include the dozen folks in my circle of family and friends who loved the Peña's version. Nonetheless, it is a small business that deserves a chance. read more

We've been going to Sinaloa for about 20 years. In fact we ate & had margaritas the night it burned to the ground at the previous location. Being from southern Cali, I know what authentic Mexican food should taste like. This WAS the real deal. I haven't been in a few mos as we moved out of the area so make a point like others on yelp to stop in. What a complete DISAPPOINTMENT! Took first timers there having talked it up, how embarrassing. The combo plates have gone up to $19.99, are you kidding me?! This is for Mexican food not a steak dinner folks. I ordered a tostada which was about $13 and came with maybe 1/2 cup of beans, very little cheese & the tortilla was a tiny corn tortilla like you'd have for a soft taco. The beef was so scant it was a joke. I could go on about the chili verde my husband always loves there, let's just say no good. Friend ordered chili relleno, my fav; it was dried out looked microwaved yuk. He didn't finish it either. As for the margaritas, I couldn't bring myself to even order one. They want $9-13 (maybe more?) each & from what I saw the glass was 2/3 ice!! It's bad enough to pay $3.75 for iced tea. On the plus side they have several big flat screen t.v.'s now, maybe the new owners trying to make up the cost by downsizing the portions, raising the prices & using inferior ingredients. But the place still has the old carpet, unpainted chunks out out of the walls etc. this used to be part of the charm because the food was good. Now it's tacky & nasty if your trying to make it upscale! Needless to say the good food at Sinaloa is becoming a distant memory. I'll go to Chavez market and get better food, at half the price how sad is that? To the new owners, take a lesson in common sense. You buy a thriving business there is a reason it's thriving, because people like it as is. Sure, change some menu items, first offer them as an OPTION if they go over, great keep them. I understand you've invested & want to recoup the money, but again cutting portions & raising prices is not the way to do it. read more

Ok.... lets be honest... it will never be the same as it was when it was at the old location. Once they moved to the new location by Chase Bank, it was always lacking something from the pastl. And then over the years the quality just started to get worse. The new owner has some great ideas to put it back on course and we now actually dine there again after over a year away. It still has flaws but he is working on it. The price went up but the quality of the meat went up too. You can taste it. So I don't mind paying more. the margs are still the best in town and I support this place to become a hot spot again. 6 months ago you could walk by on a Friday night and see maybe 5 tables being occupied. Now its pretty busy so they are doing something right. If you want the old Sinaloa, get in your DeLorean, sit next to Michael J Fox and go Back to the Future because it will NEVER be that again. So people should stop comparing and view it as a new restaurant that DOES serve good food. read more

Like several of the reviews I have read here, it pains me to say that the Sinaloa of old is no longer. We have been regulars for more years that I care to remember and go there semi-regularly for lunch with co-workers. There have been a few times when the service has been so-so, and other times when we waited longer than usual. But it was never bad enough to make us not go any longer....until today. It's Friday, so we decided to go for company lunch. We got there at 11:30, we were only the second party in there. At 1:00, we asked for our food to be packaged to go. This alone would have been upsetting, since we have an hour for lunch, but the way it was handled is what will prevent me from going back. Both Steve, the owner and the waiter acted as though it was our fault that the food was taking forever.....and got annoyed with US that we wanted it boxed up to go. This was the final straw, we will NOT be going back for a company lunch or any other meal. Very disappointing. read more

We arrived at the Sinaloa café at approximately 8:20pm on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend (also the weekend of the Mushroom Festival in Morgan Hill). There were 6 of us, we checked in, and were told that they close at 9pm but since we were in and on the list to be seated, then we would be served. No problem. So we waited and waited...and at the same time tried to get a drink from the bar while being repeatedly ignored by the two or three bartenders that were serving all the drunk, loud patrons. So at this point, we were already annoyed and were making a point to really try and be easy going about it. The girl couldn't even get our drink orders right....and they were simple requests. Great bartender! NOT! At about 8:40pm we were told that our table was almost ready but they were out of chips and salsa...WHAT?!?!?!?! I have never heard of a Mexican restaurant being out of chips and salsa. But at this point, we were hungry, annoyed, everything else around was closed or almost closing, so we said fine - even though my gut said to leave NOWWW! About 5 minutes later we were taken to our table and seated. When the waitress came to say hi and take orders she said "just so you know, we are out of chicken, shrimp, fish, rice, beans..." and she was about to list some more things. I stopped her mid-sentence and said we were not ordering and we were leaving. What kind of restaurant runs out of almost all of their food!?!?! Before we left I made sure the host knew this and also knew that we were extremely annoyed that he made us wait the whole time and didn't tell us they WERE OUT OF FOOD!!! Why didn't he tell us when we checked in? That way we could have enough time to find another place before everything closed down? He said he didn't know they were out of food and he was sure we could sit order rice and beans? Really, you want me to order a platter of rice and beans? Yummy!!! Overall, the place looked run down and in the end we weren't shocked that they couldn't figure out how to properly run a restaurant. Luckily, the wonderful Ladera Grill was still open, was right down the street, and had top of the line food and service. read more

Our party of four arrived at the restaurant 3/12/14 before 6:00 p.m. A sign out front on the sidewalk advertised happy hour to 7:00 p.m., $1.00 off the price of beer & $2.25 off on margaritas. A sign inside said seniors get a discount (we're all seniors.) The chili verde dinner was mediocre, about 5 or maybe 6 small chunks of pork, the rest was all the sauce, very unlike our experience in the past. When the bill came we were charged the full price for two beers, $4.50 each, & $7.75 for each margarita, & no senior discount was applied. We asked about the happy hour prices & were told they apply only on the "bar side" of the restaurant where there are several tables for patrons ordering meals just as we had done. When we arrived there were no customers at the tables on the "bar side" & we were escorted to the other area of the restaurant where there was one table in use. The bill was corrected to show the senior 15% discount but the full prices of the four beverages remained, $7.00 more than what we should have been charged. The sign outside the restaurant says nothing about where you need to sit inside to take advantage of the happy hour prices. In past visits we have been seated in the same area as 3/12 & had been given the reduced prices. This is nothing short of false advertising, & steering us to the part of the premises where the happy hour prices don't apply is devious. We will not return; we have been regular customers for many years, going well back before the fire. read more

i agree that sinaloa is living of the the past,we went there with about fifteen people ,i wont talk for everyone else but i dont like the food or the service,i purchase the chili colorado and my girl got the chili verde,chili verde is supposed to be greeen right ,cause why was hers white ,wow, it must of been the secret sauce we talked about in high school.i had the colorado ,and i would rather eat crap ,the cook in there should have his or her hands amputated so he or she cant cook anymore,it sucked ,thats all i will say about that,yes im not speaking for everyone but there were other negative comments about the food to,,i only ate my food cause i drenched it with salsa and it got rid of the crap flavor i tasted,the first plate came out and fifteen minutes later the last plate came out,what the f is that shit,our waitress sucked and didnt smile once ,ive been here before and felt the same but i couldnt convince everyone not to go but id hope the food would of tasted better this time,well, of to super taqueria or el gruilense,where they serve brains and head meat ,good luck to them ,and if you can get the waitress to come to u the margaritas are awesome on the rocks. read more
