When we read Mexican restaurant we are hoping a grandma/ grandpa tio/ tias cooking with Mexican music in the background. Service was on point very attentive and we were greeted upon arrival. Waited 1 3/4 hours and only got two glasses of water (no lemon as requested), two small bowls of chips and about four platters of excuses of why our food hadn't arrived in 90 minutes! After all the people around us that came in 45 minutes after us got their food the staff started to notice our frustration! Four times they promised the food was ready and in the window ready for us! I gave them ten minutes additional until 2:15 to deliver on their promises and excuses and we walked away after 1 hour and 45 minutes of waiting and as we walked away as far as we could look back our food never came! Several other tables left while we waited as well!! Ridiculous! No excuse could ever explain this lack of performance and ability! We tried to be understanding since the restaurant and server was new...but unacceptable isn't acceptable no matter how many excuses offered!! Do not eat here!!!! read more

I went back to eat there chili rellenos. I had eaten there a couple of years ago. They're fresh chilis roasted not out of the can. Best home style Mexican food in the South Bay Area ! I would even say the entire Bay Area. I travel from San Jose when I am craving their enchiladas Rojas. The sauce is homemade, and very authentic. I am a Jesus Restaurant fan! We find the food delicious! And the atmosphere casual and not pretentious. Their food reminds me of home. The beans and rice are excellent - which is almost impossible to find in most Mexican restaurants. Love the Chili Rellenos - my favorite order with eggs on a Sunday morning. They make the best Menudo in town, available every day of the week. Generous servings whatever you order. Family run. Been going to Jesus since the 1970's. Consistently reliable. Good place to meet with family, they can handle a crowd well. I see some of the reviews about friendliness and service. It's true that they are not going to greet you at the door, all smiles and guide you to your seat. You have to figure that out yourself - sit wherever you want. And when you're done, they don't bring the check and take care of you there - you figure it out that you have to take it to the counter and pay there. So, it's different! Casual! Really disappointed in the taste of the food. First the Lengua taco...meat super dry. Lengua meat should be soft and moist, no taste in meat, not even salty. Second the fried fish (tilapia) over fried that there was no meat on it to eat all of it was burnt. And finally shrimp cocktail, plain, no salt, no avocado. Nothing of the food serve now tastes like a couple of years ago. Sorry to say that me and my family will think about coming back to Jesus's restaurant. Oh and $5 for a small little plate of guacamole with no flavor on it. They said they make it on site but it looked like the one at Taco Bell. Just got here and it's really quiet. I wish there was some music playing, but they have the Tv on and the service so far has been great! Brought out chip and salsa as soon as we sat down and modelo came out nice and cold with a lime! I ordered two chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and my wIfe ordered two chicken chimichangas with all rice instead of beans. They both came with side salads which came out before the meal. Salads: Basic side salad, nothing exciting, but was a nice light start to the meal. Enchiladas: Really yummy! They had red sauce which was tasty, wish it had a little bit of spice to it, but tapatio worked great! This is going to sound crazy, but they had way too much chicken, but I am not a huge meat eater. They are probably perfect for normal people lol. But I obviously did not mind too much beside my plate was empty lol. Chimichangas: Very good. Came with guacamole and sour cream on top which were perfect to make them not so dry. Again, had a lot of chicken, but my wife loved it. They were nice and crispy and the chicken was seasoned well. Rice and Beans: Can't really go wrong with rice and bean. The beans were basic, had the sprinkle of cheese on top. But the rice was really good! Had great flavor. We ordered some cheese cake Togo as well :) All together with the two meals, 4 modelos, and 2 cheesecakes, we I only payed $55. Not bad! We've been to the restaurant a few times since they moved over to the Monterey Road location. Each time the waitresses we're on the verge of being rude-not friendly at all. I just sucked it up and ignored it. This past Wednesday I called in an order. The woman who took my order seemed to be uninterested in taking the order. She said the food would be ready in 20 minutes and was getting ready to hang up. I found this strange- she hadn't repeated my order back, and didn't ask for a phone number or my name. I stopped her before she hung up and repeated my order. I also gave her my husbands name because he was the one picking it up. My husband entered the restaurant and the 2 workers were sitting & talking. They were once again on the verge of being rude almost bothered by his coming in to the restaurant. He told her that I had placed the order and gave her his name. They hadn't written down the name I gave them or my phone number!? They got one of the items I ordered wrong- they blamed me... It will be a very long time before I visit this restaurant again. I'll stick to Lorenzo's off Main and Hale. read more

This time initial table service was super fast....chips, water, bang....had it changed.....then, time slowed....no.....time stopped. After a long wait, they took our order, the 35 40 minutes later we received our food. It was little more than atypical mexican food. Perhaps it was good mexican food and I was just annoyed with the delays. Learned me lesson. I am not sure why this does not change. As a business owner myself, I get it, staff are expensive, but this is the linchpin of being successful. Good product, quickly. You could kill it in that location. Hire a few more people, and the crowds will come. On another note, phone in an order, show up 15 to 30 minutes later and your order is coming up as you walk in. Hot and tasty.
