What a delightful tea shop. One of my most authentic experiences in the US, comparable to my experiences in tea shops in Taiwan. I actually came across this place on an Instagram post and decided to check it out. It seems that normally a tea ceremony is something we'd have to book ahead of time (and pay for, apparently) but we didn't know. So, we wandered in and the shopkeep started telling us about teas and she let me smell a green one. I asked if I could try it, she generously said yes, and that kicked off an unplanned tea ceremony. It started off with just my husband and I, but as other people came into the shop, the shopkeep invited them to join us at the table so by the end there was another couple, a woman, the shopkeep's husband and the shop's assistant hanging out together and drinking tea. We learned all about the villages where the teas came from, the differences between some of them, how old the teas are, how the shop came to be, even about the tea table we sat at. Super cool vibe, loved the coming together of strangers bonding for hours over a shared love of tea, but one that I'm not sure can be replicated because again, these tea tastings are meant to be booked ahead of time with your party, and are meant to be a paid service (though in Taiwan, tea tastings are free). We got lucky because the shop wasn't busy and people had cancelled their tea bookings due to an upcoming snow storm. I will most likely come back for more tea at some point. Even if a spontaneous tea ceremony never happens again, I count my blessings that such an experience even happened once, and would still recommend this shop to any Chinese tea lover. read more

Wonderful little tea shop. The owner is lovely and makes your tea in a traditional way as you sit and watch. There are many teas available that are fresh and handpicked. I bought a $30 bag of phu er tea. The owner told me it was half price because of a small rip in the packaging. She said all I had to do was break off a small piece and put it in the pot. Got it home and it's a brick and even after hitting it with a hammer, couldn't get it to break. It's impossible. read more

Lovely place to spend a weekend afternoon catching up with friends, drinking tea, and learning more about how to prepare tea. We sat at the table and got the white tea, which had a nice flavor despite not having to steep it for a long time. The owner was very sweet and kind, and showed us the correct way to steep and pour tea. There's a neat ceramic plate on the table that had a hose attachment to drain the water, and there were tea pet figurines that changed color when you poured hot water over them. The environment was well adored and very serene. We did not feel rushed. The little tea cups were also very cute - decorated with koi and floral designs on the bottom. read more

The owner will also provide you with the history of and regions where various teas come from. They also serve bubble teas in plain or various flavors, delicious! They also carry all the tools needed to prepare your tea at home. Came here with one of my friends and we're so glad we found this place. It's not your typical American tea store. Be ready to experience how the Eastern culture does it. Upon walking into the store, you feel at peace. It is nicely decorated and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. This is not some tea you can replicate by getting at the supermarket. The staff will show you how to properly serve the tea as well - you select your choice of teapot and it can range from $10-$30 per pot. Our teapot only ended up being $10 but it was so worth it for the amount of cups of tea we were able to brew with. The leaves are very strong even with a quick brew. There are different services available, for example, if you want the staff to serve the tea to you. There are also tea and tea pots for sale. Check it out when you get a chance :) read more

My fiancée and I were driving though the area after searching for a home to buy when I first saw Sinofilia. As you can probably guess, house shopping is a pretty stressful experience, and I knew I wanted to get some tea to calm my nerves. I could immediately tell from the exterior that this tea shop would be good, but walking through the door I was blown away by the authenticity of the different styles of tea, the decor and the traditional preparation methods. My fiancée and I opted for the Jasmine tea. I had never tasted tea so good! The owner taught me that I had been steeping my tea for way too long at home. The way she prepared it made for possibly the best cup of tea I ever had. We spent a half hour sitting in the window, legs crossed and shoes removed, as we enjoyed drinking tea the way it's probably meant to be enjoyed. By the end of the experience, I felt most of my stress melt away. I can't stop thinking about this place and I can't wait to go back. Next time, I'm bringing my friends! read more

Yes, the tea flavors actually do transform with multiple resteepings!There are many teas to be purchased, and fine tea pots as well. Popped in on a summer Saturday to get my boys some bubble tea. The owner was so sweet and accommodating. She explained the type of teas and flavorings and both boys came away happy! The shop is adorable and cozy - she sells loose teas and Chinese home goods (decorations). One of the boys asked for herbal tea and she said she had enough for one cup but if we wanted it next time just give her a call in advance and she will prepare it for us. When I tasted both of them it seemed pretty authentic to me not over syrupy or sweet - I could actually taste the tea! We will be back read more

I've been all over New York City and the surrounding areas looking for a tea shop that has great inventory and personnel willing to help me learn more and I found that at Sinofelia. Their focus is on the experience and not pushing products on people. During my visit, I spent three hours sitting at one of their serving tables sitting and talking and trying the different types of teas they offered. The owner is generous in sharing and cares about your experience at the shop rather than ensuring that you buy something. After sitting and talking, I purchased the teas that I wanted and a glass teapot that was recommended by the owner and am intending to return the day I am back in the area. read more

Stumbled upon this place while exploring Boonton. Originally came in to grab a bubble tea (hard to find in this area) but I was amazed by the interior. Met Kristen who prepared my tea, which is different from the powdered stuff I was expecting; absolutely refreshing and delicious. There is a ton of merchandise from tea sets to different types of tea. I enjoyed sitting with my beverage and looking around the shop, there is also a case of herbs for sale which I believe are part of TCM. Tea ceremonies are also held here which I am trying to get a group together to experience this. In the meantime I will definitely be back to enjoy the space and tea on my own. read more

Excellent service, prices, and supplies. The owner has fully knowledge of the "gongfu" Chinese tea ceremony, which is totally different than the Japanese tea ceremony. The owner also can add a deep, spiritual component to the tea ceremony, if you ask her. She also has, and custom-blends, Chinese herbal medicinal teas.
