First of all, there are a few trades you want to be careful about going with the lowest bid. Concrete is one of them. You get a fly-by-night crew messing up your concrete, and there's no easy solution. I got three bids on my patio. Sione's was the most expensive. But in the walk-thru, Paul noticed things the other contractors didn't. He asked really good questions and provided a price quickly. His decades of experience was evident. So I decided to spend more and use him. He and his crew didn't disappoint. I wanted an arc on the end of the patio, and they worked on the form until I was happy with it. They answered all my questions and I had a lot. I'd overseen a lot of commercial concrete in my career, but was unfamiliar with several things they did during this residential job. It wasn't wrong, it was just unfamiliar. They explained why they were doing what they were doing, so I withheld judgment until the end. There were a couple of details in their prep work I wasn't happy with. They changed them without complaint or argument. And they cleaned up after they were done. On top of everything else, the crew was amazingly fast. Concrete is brutal work, but these guys moved like a well-oiled machine. The result was a beautiful product. No low spots, perfect slope, clean joint, beautiful radiused edges. I will definitely use them again when I'm ready to replace my old driveway. Our 40-year-old aggregate patio had settled and opened many ugly cracks. We called several cement contractors and after surveying all the bids, selected Sione's. We were not disappointed. Sione's was the highest bid we received to install a new patio, fire pit, porch and sidewalk (not crazy high but a bit higher than the rest). We still went with them due to the excellent reviews here. Unfortunately the project did not live up to our expectations. The crew that came to excavate and prep hit our AC unit with their excavator causing it to become a bit tilted. When I asked them about this they denied it and said it was already like that. They drove their excavator in the yard tearing up some grass and made no effort to fix it. The rebar was installed incorrectly (laps too short and incorrectly tied). When I pointed the rebar issue out to the owner he had them fix it. When pouring the concrete they somehow forgot to stamp a section of the patio. This resulted in a smooth unstamped area about 8" wide and 5' long. The owner was very apologetic and had a crew come out, saw cut out the unfinished area and re-pour it. The re-pour came out way better than I expected. Unfortunately there is an area on the patio and another on the sidewalk that are low and do not drain correctly so a puddle forms. This causes one area to always remain wet for a day or two after a rain and looks bad. I also had to ask them to come correct the end of the sidewalk as they did not cut it in correctly to the driveway. They obliged and it looks better but not great (concrete is a bit higher than the driveway so there is a small lip). After all the issues, the owner offered to provide a free sealing job as the project did not live up to their expectations. I waited all year, asking several times to be placed on their schedule for the free sealing job and they never followed through. read more

Contract was for $19,267 for removal of old pavers and pouring/stamping/pigmenting rooftop patio. Also constructed an elevator shed for an additional $5k leaving roof nail holes protruding through eve (that I had to bring to their attention). Since it was going to be a major purchase for me, I got 3 different bids for the job of replacing my old patio, building a ramp and rebuilding my patio stairs. Paul was so much more knowledgeable than the other 2 contractors I spoke with. He listened to my ideas and discussed what would work and what wouldn't work and why something wouldn't work. He had some great suggestions and it was obvious he knew his business. One of his suggestions was to modify my stairs to make them easier to climb by lowering the rise on each stair. (It really made a difference.) His bid wasn't the least expensive but as I observed the job being done, I realized what a terrific amount of work was involved in the project. They paved a new slab for our patio. Unfortunately they left all the dirt and rocks in a huge pile that they dug up for the patio. After several calls and no returned messages we were left to clean the mess ourselves. It contained big chunks of unused harden concrete that we had to dig up and haul away. I requested a quote through Yelp for a construction project at our local neighborhood park. We needed new low-rising concrete stairs and new side rails as the old ones had rotted. This was phase one of a three part project to improve our park, which babies, children, parents and seniors use. Paul came out to assess and squeezed us in their schedule so that I could finish the project with in my desired time frame by mid-April due to safety concerns at the park with the old stairs. Paul communicated well over text and phone. He closed out the project by calling, and gave tips for landscaping gravel in the walkway. The crew was gracious, polite, and communicative to have on-site. They arrived and left at stated times, and wore branded apparel that identified them with Sione's. We enjoyed watching the cement mixer truck. We are happy with the outcome! Once the project began it took two days even with heavy rain. Paul came by at a time when it was hard to get other contractors out, so I went with his bid. It was expensive, 6k, but I wanted it done and done right. It was a short paved driveway to the street and re-grading in front of my house with some gravel so that I could park on it. He seemed professional, and we talked about the aspects of the job that were important to me. The only requirement was that the driveway be angled in such a way that I could drive my car up it without scraping the front of it. I showed him that car and he acknowledged it and said they'd fold over the edge of the driveway so it wouldn't be an issue. His crew came out the next week and did a super rushed job. They were out of here by about 3pm. He came by and somehow got me to pay before the job was completely finished, which was a stupid move on my part. The crew didn't flow the driveway into the street at all. It's about 4 inches higher than the street, and the newly paved section is higher than the other concrete section that it attaches to. To make matters worse, the section that they "graded" in front of my house...they didn't. They dumped a bunch of gravel over the top of the bark mulch that was there before, which basically made it a soft sandbox. I tried to park my van on it and I immediately got stuck. Fortunately my neighbor came by to tow me out. I've had to put one of my cars in storage since I can't get it up my driveway anymore, and another one I cracked the front lip when driving up, even at a steep angle. I've attached pictures - you can see the sandbox gravel section, and the landscaping paper sticking out of it, meaning that they didn't re-grade anything. I called Paul a number of times and he didn't return my calls. I sent him texts describing the issues I have. This was about a month ago now, so he has had plenty of time to respond. He chose not to respond. It's going to cost a lot of money to have this ripped out and done properly. I've learned my lesson about paying up front. Stay away from Siones Construction. read more

When I bought my new home in Tacoma I wanted to be sure everything was perfect before I moved in. I did my due diligence and contacted five local concrete contractors to replace my then damaged driveway. Out of the five three were available to give me an estimate. Paul at Sione's was the only contractor that brought up the drainage issue that caused the damage to my previous driveway and wanted to be sure that he fixed the drainage issue during the driveway replacement.
