Love their coffee but from what I've tried, their tea lattes are the shining star of the menu. The red chili latte has a great kick and the autumn harvest tea latte has all the perfect spices. The nocciobello latte w/ orange zest - amazing hot and cold. And as it is the season for pumpkin spice lattes, get it here! They use actual pumpkin, which you can taste in the dregs at the bottom of the cup. The natural flavor is so much more earthy and wholesome. As for breakfast food, I recommend the breakfast sandwiches over the quiche, although what's nice about the quiche is that it comes on a bed of spinach. read more

I have always preferred the 'mom and pop' coffee shops over the Duncan's and Starbucks. SIP immediately enticed me! SIP is located amidst Post Office Sq., and is surrounded by lush trees, shrubs, and flowers. The shop has a 'green house' vibe to it, that makes it undeniably charming!!! The barista menu had many different tea lattes to choose from (my fave!), and I went with a non-fat Chai. The tea was creamy and just spicy enough. It was pretty darn good!!!!! It was like 'Christmas in a Cup', and it made me happy. I wanted to return the next morning to try the Brie and grilled pineapple Sammy, but was sad to find SIP was closed for a private party. I've been a regular customer for over 6 years. I liked their iced green tea. It's not as minty as the one at Starbucks or bitter as the one at Dunkie's. Their scones are very good, not dry and buttery. Their mixed greens salad with grilled chicken is also really good with almonds, green apple bits, and a honey mustard dressing. I hate to be an ass but the experience I had was blah. I walked in at 1030am, hoping to grab a breakfast sandwich, and they had none. So I moved to plan B, order a lunch sandwich. I decided to get the mozzarella sandwich with prosciutto (extra $1.50) and of course they forgot to put the prosciutto. They had 2 kinds of drip coffee, a normal one and a featured one. I decided to get the featured one, they were nice enough to let me sample a little of it before ordering. And then they forgot to give me my coffee. I had to remind them about it.... Went here on opening day and really enjoyed it. Fantastic sandwich, great pastries, nicely designed setting and all topped off with an artisanal attention to detail when pulling my espresso. I can't wait to see this place with the square in bloom and the windows open. Definitely a place I could stop at for breakfast or lunch almost every day; and when the outdoor seating weather is here I can't imagine a better place in Boston to sit and enjoy the juxtaposition of good food, city settings, and the little patches of nature captured in parks like Post Office square. read more

Some coffee shops thrive off the location, and Sip Cafe is one of those shops. Located right in downtown Boston's Post Office Square, an adorable park compliments the experience of enjoying a coffee. This shop thrives in the warm season, but thanks to a loyal customer base, they do just fine all year round. I bought a small (8 oz.) coffee on my first visit. Sometimes a small is 8 oz, I get it, especially when the coffee is quality, which it was. They offer a drip coffee as well as a Daterra Southern Italian espresso, which is pretty, pretty nice. Of course, they have teas and other beverages too, as well as a great selection of tasty edibles if you're hungry. Go in, get something nice, and take it outside. Sit in the park and watch the city move and breathe around you. I do that on every occasion, as the indoor scene is a hard to adjust to. read more

The location is very nice, there's not a whole lot of seating inside but in the summer I bet it's a great spot to grab a coffee and sit outside in the park. I would have given Sip four stars, but sadly they don't seem to update their menu to reflect their current offerings. When my coffee clutch companion got excited and went to order a rooibos chia latte, she was told they no longer made them - yet it was on the big menu board behind the cashier. The cashier also seemed annoyed that we were ordering coffee, sorry my dear - that IS your job. And I should know, I too schlepped coffee for a living at one time. My companion ordered these little round cookie sandwiches (two vanilla, two chocolate) and reported they were tasty. I also hear the sandwiches are good yet I have not tried them yet. I used to LOVE Sip. I'd come multiple times a week for coffee and lunch and never had a bad experience. As of this week however they've raised their prices significantly -- to the point that they've lost me as a customer. My order, a plain old medium iced coffee, used to be $3.25; a fair price for iced coffee. I came in today and placed the same order and was charged $4.82! $4.82! I couldn't believe it, over a $1.50 increase. I was so appalled that I thought it was an error, but the prices have been updated on the menu. On what planet does nearly $5 for a plain iced coffee make sense? I understand that businesses do need to raise their prices every so often, but I've never seen a business with such drastic, ludicrous raises overnight! They recently built an outdoor deck and added beer and wine so that might be part of it, but I'd take reasonably priced coffee over that any day. I will NOT be coming back, and neither will my coworkers. Bad decision on their part! read more

An easy choice when in the Financial District. I've been here twice now when I had to do some errands in the neighborhood. The inside is very small and usually packed during the business hours. Both times I took my coffee to go and sat outside in PO Square. The have a good assortment of coffee drinks, some pastries, and teas. The service was quick both times I went although there was a line. I enjoy their drip coffee as well as iced Americano. The almond croissant is also tasty. read more

I love this place. The staff is fantastic and the coffee is truly top notch. They are serious about their coffee, and I really appreciate that. I'm really picky about my soy foam in cappuccinos, and if the bubbles in the soymilk come out a little on the big side (soy is a bi**h to foam) they even check with me to see if I have time to wait another minute for them remake my soy cappuccino. THAT's how serious they are. Did I already mention how much I love the staff? A) I want to stop in every day just to say "hi" because they're so nice. B) Jared is awesome. I had a bad experience with a super-bitter espresso a couple weeks ago, and Jared, the excellent fellow that he is, invited me back to try again. Thanks to him, I'll be back for an after-lunch espresso in their beautiful green demitasses, the ones I drool over while the baristas aren't looking (I sorta have a demitasse collection...). The espresso was smooth, delicious, and with the light tartness at the end that you expect from good espresso. I'll be back for more. But I still reserve the right to be bitter about bitter espresso (sorry, pun intended). Don't pass up their teas, either. They make a delicious lightly sweetened and cinnamon'd rooibos latte, which hits the spot on cold days. What was I talking about again? It's kind of dreary outside, but I can imagine that in the summer Post Office Square is beautiful. I'm dying to come back when outdoor seating makes sense again. As for the inside, it's a bunch of wooden tables, green tile, staff members singing happy birthday and music that sounds, um... experimental? At first it was space age-y and now it's weird flutes. I don't know. They should just upgrade to Radiohead. The cashier's been my favorite part -- he apologetically told me what sandwiches they couldn't make so I didn't get my heart broken, and he offered to let me try any of the ready-made coffee so I could make an informed order. I wound up with an affordable saucer of drip coffee from somewhere tropical and a raisin bun. The coffee was not crazy memorable, but pleasant. The bun was dry, but the raisins made up for that. 5+ stars is what Sip really deserves. This cafe is located in a quaint park downtown. The inside is warm, the staff is welcoming, the lattes are out of this world! I've never been much of a coffee snob until Sip. Now other coffee is not the same. (Bonus for the lattes not only tasting amazing but almost all the staff can do beautiful latte art!) The absolute best coffee house in the financial district. I used to be a Peet's regular, but their leaving town caused me to start frequenting this little place conveniently right outside my office. I couldn't be happier. The staff is amazingly friendly (no coffee illuminati here, they are master craftsmen, and truly have a passion for their trade in bean juice). I find myself sometimes going in just to say hi and smell the amazing food they make on-site. Jared, Eric, Courtney and the rest of the crew are simply fine human beings in this city of madness. If you think Starbucks is the best coffee ever, then don't come here, because you won't understand. That is, unless you're ready to explore amazing coffee made by artists. An update since my last review -- I've returned to SIP several times in the last few weeks, and am happy to say the service has improved and the coffee has not changed a bit. I haven't tried the sandwiches again, but I have been in for coffee and pastry around lunch time and there is definitely no back-up of customers waiting for food the way I saw on my first visit. The coffee is by far the best tasting of any I've had in Boston. I would say its only rival is a cup made on the Clover machine at Starbucks. SIP coffee has a bright, clean flavor. Refreshing, with that slight hint of berry that really dark chocolate and great coffee have at their peak. If you work in the area this is where you should be making your morning or afternoon coffee run. I think the mark of a great restaurant is the ability to improve in the areas it's lacking while maintaining its successes. Kudos to SIP. read more

Boston's financial district feels weird. It has an perpetually vacuous feel despite how little or how much is actually going on. Sip Cafe's enviable and unique location in Post Office Square should do more to assuage that in theory, and yet I still felt like I was part of the prologue to an apocalyptic movie starring Will Smith. Eerie ambiance aside, I went ahead and ordered a late lunch here. The first thing to arrive in the window for me was a latte. The coffee itself is decent but ultimately unremarkable, George Howell brand. A step above Starbucks, but I don't want to live in a world where Starbucks is an honest benchmark for coffee quality. The specialty latte recipe was not bad, though: hazelnut and chocolate topped with orange zest, the last of which being a much needed change of pace in a world bereft of interesting lattes. In assessing my beverage, I'm split between the mediocrity of the beans and the inventiveness of the orange zest; ultimately though I'm not particularly drawn in to Sip Cafe for their lattes. My sandwich took forever, even when considering I asked for it panini pressed. I'll reluctantly say it was worth the wait because it was fucking hand-down awesome. Best sandwich ever is a stretch, but the combination of apple and turkey and goat cheese was both inventive and holistically beautiful. I was satisfied with the meal so I asked for a pastry suggestion. The person behind the counter suggested a chocolate chip cookie, which ended up being rather unremarkable. Oh well, there are worse ways to top off a lunch. I'll be back for that sandwich (or perhaps another) but that's about it. Ultimately not a regrettable experience, but Sip Cafe could benefit from some better coffee beans, better cookies, and better service. Until then, Sip Cafe remains par for course. read more

You know those delicious yet elusive chocolate oranges that only come out around Christmas time? Their noccio bello latte tastes like that, but in a cup. Zomfg. Their lemonade is very sour and tart, just the way I like it. I'm currently eating a croissant from Sip. It's perfectly flaky, buttery, and soft. I'll probably swing by there for lunch one day this week to try a sandwich. They sound really good and I've heard great reviews from co-workers. The prices are quite reasonable, dare I say cheap. My medium coffee and pastry this morning was $5.50 (the cost of just the coffee elsewhere) and their sandwiches run in the $6-$7 range. Also, Post Office Square is gorgeous this time of year. I am very, very much a fan of Sip Cafe in theory and gastrointestinal practice. I love its hip vibe, its glass walls, its smoked turkey/apple/caramelized onions/goat cheese sandwich, the fact that you can choose how sweet you want your mocha, and its very presence acting as a gentle middle finger/oasis to/from the concrete jungle. My beef, though, is with the employees. Not Jared the manager, of course, and there are indeed a few folks I've come across who are the customer service triple threat of friendly, polite, and competent. However, there seems to be some wonky algorithm at play here that makes the friendly, flirty staff incompetent and the competent staff cold and unsmiling. Maybe it's a pet peeve from my years in the service industry, but seriously, ladies, look me in the eyes and crack a freaking smile. Or, don't get my sandwich wrong as I'm doing the "I'm really late" dance, smile flirtatiously, and tell me the incorrect sandwich is "[his] favorite--[I'll] love it." Despite their very recent opening, Sip is a already a great new Café addition to Boston's Financial District, with a great space in a cute garden, conveniently located just steps away from Downtown Crossing or Park Street station. Independently owned in spite of their surrounding area in the center of the corporate and financial headquarters, they have an awesome management and friendly staff. Their food is fresh and made to order, with tasty sandwiches for every taste. They use local produce and baked goods. The delicious quality of the Terroir coffee they use is practically a delicacy, both organic and fair trade. The prices are affordable and you get an awesome value for your money. Try to support great worthy ventures such as this, rather then wicked McDonald's of Coffee, Dunkies and Starbies. Give Sip a chance and you won't regret it! read more

Do not get me wrong. I very much like Sip...their drinks are pretty darn good. BUT I have been here multiple times and my drink has either been forgotten OR I get my drink and it's not exactly what I ordered. For example, I ordered a hot chocolate here and got some sort of hazelnutty hot chocolate drink...the hazelnut taste was undeniable, and I've had their hot chocolate multiple times so I know what it tastes like...they redeemed themselves, however, because that drink was pretty damn good. Furthermore, while this place is cute, has a very nice ambiance, etcetc their baked goods and drinks are tad expensive for what you get...but it's Boston, so it's only normal I suppose. read more

My Disloyalty card brought me to Sip, and though I'll always be a Pavement-er at heart, I might have a secret affair with Sip on the side. The location is unbeatable. Wall to wall windows, sunlight streaming in, strategically placed tables and the architecture of the building give the entire cafe a light, airy quality. On that note, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was in a green house. I ordered the Ginger Latte and the Spinach Salad. The salad was amazing. I did like the Ginger Latte, but I couldn't really taste the ginger (this is the reason I deducted one star.) The service was excellent. My lovely and informative girlfriend has been going in the morning and I finally had a chance going in late today to try the fare. Egg, cheese, tomato and ham on flatbread, good fresh-squeezed OJ, and a small coffee. The damage? $7. The competing breakfast costs more at Dunkin Donuts. Plus the guy behind the counter was very cool. Seemed to really enjoy what they do. I asked for the current coffee feature and he gushed a little on how good it was and encouraged me to drink it black (on it). As beautiful as this building is, the salads here are truly not worth the money. The worst feeling is when you eat something and think to yourself "I could have made this at home for about a quarter of the price..." I ordered the spinach and kale salad (~$6.50) and it was just that. Nothing special, nothing unique. I've had some awesome salads that make me feel better about eating rabbit food, but this salad just made me feel like a rabbit. The coffee was quite good, though. I wouldn't mind dropping by again for a sandwich&coffee when it's a bit warmer out and the view isn't obstructed by 4foot-high snowbanks. read more

On a visit to Boston for a few days, I wanted to scout out some of the best coffee spots in the city, and this one did not disappoint! First of all, I LOVE LOVE the location/ambiance of the place! Being surrounded by glass walls and windows in the middle of a beautifully kept park just adds to the charm, even on a winter day! The staff was super friendly and helpful, gave great recommendations, and got our order to us very quickly. They even wiped down a table in no time flat without us even asking! Now for the nosh...my fiance and I ordered the Roasted Chicken sandwich with Tomato, Provolone, Avocado on French bread, and also the Turkey and Red Apple with creamy delicious goat cheese, roasted onions, and seven grain bread. We had them both pressed and they were both delicious, although I have to say MY FAVORITE was the Turkey and Red Apple (although I could have done without the onions...I am a HUGE HUGE onion fan, but these were rubbery, flavorless and tough, and I ended up just peeling them off...didn't miss them!). We got a cup of the Sweet Potato Chipotle soup and WOW oh WOW is it DELICIOUS! I would go back just for that soup!! Now for the drinks...my fiance ordered a Ginger Latte which had a really nicely organic ginger flavor to it...not too sweet, just right. I order the Chocolate Hazelnut Espresso with Foam Milk and Orange Zest and let me tell you, it was OUT of this world. SOOOO delicious. It was a special today, so not sure how often they have it, but I suggest you run, not walk, to get it. Also, the presentation of the drinks is adorable: they make little patterns and drawings in the foam. Mine had a heart, and my fiance's looked like a leaf. The mugs are nicely large,and are ceramic so that it keeps your coffee hot, which I adore. Over all it was a great experience, and a delightful location! read more

I liked this place, but I didn't Love it. I would definitely stop by if I were in the area again though. It's a great place to sit right in the middle of a small park area. I don't know why people mentioned latte art. Because when I got my lattle, it looked like they had attempted to make 'art' and decided it was easier to just pour the milk foam on top. This is the cutest little cafe in one of the most beautiful settings in Boston. The people are nice and the coffee is good. I'm a big fan of the cafe au lait and steel cut oats. I went back later that day for another cafe au lait and a cranberry orange scone. I was very pleased. The cafe sits in the middle of a small but gorgeous park with walkways under a long arbor.
