This is becoming one of my favorite coffee shops in town. I love the convenience of the drive thru window. I sort of wish there was more breakfast or foods offered in general but it's nice and easy knowing it's a quick stop for coffee. Added bonus, ice cream. Though I've yet to try it I've heard great things. I love the chai here, and the staff always delivers it with a smile. Very friendly service inside and out. Inside there is a nice sitting area that is spacious and quiet. There are pastries available too. The prices are on the cheap side for coffee in east Nashville, so that's a plus. If I could afford it it would probably stop into Sip almost daily. They just have excellent coffee and the Ice cream is the equal of any other place in Nashville and yes i'm including Jeni's in that statement. Coffee-wise I'm a fan of the macchiato myself for most days but I recently tried the pumpkin spice latte on a recommendation and loved it. Real pumpkin puree and a perfect blend of spices that was not too sweet, it's seasonal but you wont regret trying it if on the menu when you visit. If your more of straight coffee fan their house blend is smooth dark and strong, I believe its french press but don't quote me, maybe go see for yourself! I've also really enjoyed their affogato option. If you don't know, affogato is coffee (and I'd recommend the house blend but you can go crazy I suppose) served over ice cream. You wind up with a wonderful, indulgent desert that can be enjoyed if its cold or hot out. This is a great late afternoon pickup just FYI. Although I have not had them myself I often see some hot coco options as well and i'm looking forward to trying those as it is finally getting cold out. The decor is comfy with some couches and high tables mixed among a few benches, overhead lighting and some plants round things out. The location is an old bank and I love that they have preserved the theme with the old tile work on the floors and a antique safe welcoming you at the entrance. Its a pity the neighborhood location does not really lend itself to out door seating. They do have a few tables outside but you overlook Browns Automotive and Gallatin road, so not exactly relaxing. The drive-thru teller is now a drive-thru coffee line and is always quick if you are in a rush. The employees have been very nice. Service has been fast and after a few visits most will try and get to know you and your order. As for Mike's Ice cream.. well its creamy with solid bold flavors and usually a thicker consistency than the more airy ice-cream from Pied Piper. I do find it similar to the style Jeni's typically employs. The maple blondie, cookies and cream, and mint options have been winners for me. There are usually several specialty flavors rotating in and out. I recently tried a cornbread raspberry one that was fantastic. They will also milkshake any flavor you like. Overall I'm loving having Sips nearby, bringing that cosmopolitan coffee house feel to an area of Inglewood that sorely needs a little uplifting. read more

Thrilled to have a coffee shop up this way! Apparently this isn't necessarily a new business, just moved from a location off McGavock. Today is the first day the inside has been open. You'll feel like you're in a diner (think Pied Piper) but you'll quickly notice the elements of what the building used to be: a bank. There's a working drive thru, bank teller windows inside, a safe, and the deposit slips table that holds the cream and sugar. The coffee menu offers your traditional offerings, including chai lattes, iced options, and even an espresso milkshake...which is created with their made in-house ice cream. Yeup. Made. In. House. They make the ice cream for Mike's Ice Cream downtown...yeah that place on Broadway that always has a line. Be a local and stop by here instead if you have that craving for something cold and creamy. Their coffee beans come from local roaster Drew's Brews, and their pastries from Provençe Bakery. All local, all delicious. Stop by soon, enjoy a sip from the pew, and chat with their friendly staff. I've already admitted to being a fan of Mike's Ice Cream. Knowing that there was an Inglewood business the serves up the tasty treat was driving me crazy. I could have Mike's Ice Cream and not deal with the insanity of Downtown? I could park my car? I could pig out in peace? Yes. Yes to all of this. I tried exercising self control for months but one Sunday, I was speeding down Gallatin and I decided the time was now. Perfect. Since this was a cafe and not a dedicated ice cream shop, I decided that I should have a cup of coffee -- along with ice cream. Not being an aficionado of coffee (and, let's be clear: I was here for the ice cream), a cup of drip was fine with me. I figured the caffeine would counteract the food coma I was about to put myself in. So, yes. Coffee. Tastes fine. Was hot. The end. The real star of this Sunday morning breakfast* was my sundae made with maple walnut blondie ice cream, coffee ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. This was the balanced breakfast the government doesn't want you to know about. I felt alive, y'all! That might have been all the sugar and caffeine that was lighting up my bloodstream. Rather than take my masterpiece to go, I stayed and enjoyed it on premises. The building has some fun charm/character. The building used to be an old bank and it has a lot of pieces that tell the tale of a time past: from the checkerboard floor to the church pew seating. I liked how whimsical it was (perfect for a coffee/ice cream shop) and how it respected the history of the neighborhood and the building that housed it. As I lazed about eating my ice cream, I noticed families coming in and out to get some scoops, students studying their texts (as in books, not on their phones) while drinking coffee and some old friends catching up over some coffee drinks. Sip seems like a neighborhood mainstay that fills a need and inspires loyalty from its regulars. I'm so happy that I stopped in. I just wish I hadn't waited so long. *I will not be judged. read more

Sip Cafe is my jam. Let me count the ways: drive through, amazing beverages, snacks, ICE CREAM, close to my house...I could go on. I'm not OVERLY adventurous when I go there I won't lie, but my go to (and delicious it is!!) is either iced coffee light cream or an iced Americano (also light cream) and the occasional chocolate croissant. Their coffee is just so so delicious. We've been through the drive through for ice cream as well and just absolutely love Mike's Ice Cream. The staff is great, and we're so thrilled to have this little gem in the neighborhood. read more

I was there for 1 hour and observed them being super friendly to the "hipster" customers but those who came not dressed to the atmosphere were treated completely different. I was on my way to Barista Parlor when I saw that we had a new-ish coffee shop in my neck of the woods. The guy at the counter said they had been opened since January. I love Mike's ice cream (and coffee) from downtown so I was excited and surprised that this existed in the food desert near my house. I came and left hungry. Ordered a blueberry muffin and a small vanilla latte. Both were good. Total came to under $7. I realize that in this area it may be difficult to spend before proving the concept, but here is what I would love to see with this space: 1. Play up the fact that this is an old bank building. The teller windows, check desk, and other tell-tale signs are there, but the rest of the decor is very random. The plant wall reminds me of a Chinese restaurant. There is a long church pew for some reason. 2. Add more light food options that wouldn't require much of a kitchen. Wraps or salads etc. maybe offering a simple breakfast option. The Well near Lipscomb does a decent job of this (although I don't love everything on their menu, it is food and I'm most coffee-seeking in the morning) Hope this place sticks around, there aren't many options between East Nashville and Rivergate. Best coffee shop in Nashville, when considering these things: Quality of Coffee - They are literally the only coffee shop in Nashville that ONLY French Presses all of their coffee. No really, they don't have a drip coffee option. It's amazing. They also use Drew's Brews beans, which are locally roasted in East Nashville. Location - Great spot in Inglewood, the best of all East Nashville neighborhoods. Also, they're the only drive through coffee place. Service - Even though they can get insanely busy, I have never had an employee be rude or make me feel like an idiot. I can't say that about most other coffee shops in the neighborhood, and Sip is ten times busier than any other shop. ICE CREAM - I don't even need to explain. They make it THERE. I absolutely love this place. Friendly staff, good parking and fair prices. The lattes are delicious and Mike's ice cream is perfect in the summer. The only thing I wish they had were more options for breakfast... I'd be there 5x more if I could something more substantial (i.e a bagel) than a crescent or a muffin (on a good day). Today was my first visit to Sip's mobile location on Gallatin, after enjoying several cups of coffee at their former spot. I was pleased to see a wide selection of teas and coffee drinks, not to mention the sign advertising that credit cards are accepted. Seating is available in an open-air room made available by OMG. The dirty chai and bran muffin were the perfect start to this chilly day. I truly hoped for greatness, when I first went to Sip. However, I left in disbelief. I had a black coffee and tasted a mocha. I also had a few chocolate-covered beans. To begin with, the coffee tasted a bit stale and had a sort of waxy quality that I usually associate with cheap coffees. The mocha had some of the same waxy notes in it, but was overall not smooth or cohesive. I also found it excessively sweet. The beans also had the same partly-stale quality and waxy notes. It might be the lowest quality coffee I've tasted since a Pilot station somewhere along the path of moving from Portland, Oregon to Nashville. By the way: As explained in my review of Portland Brew, I am a native of Portland, Oregon. I moved away in late 2009, but watched the northwest coffee scene spring up and evolve into what it is today. I have very high expectations and a very developed palate, when it comes to coffee, beer and food in general. (Please also look for my review of Eighth & Roast.) A week or so later, I shared a few scones from Sip, with two others. Mine was just shy of disgusting, but not in terms of structure so much; it was the bitter flavor that is distinctive to too much lard. The other two scones were a bit better in that regard, but still left me wanting quality scones. So, to those well-acquainted with the northwest style of coffee or those interested in an honest assessment from someone who considers the northwest (specifically: Portland) coffee scene a point of reference: As of January 2015, I cannot recommend Sip for coffee, espresso drinks or pastries. read more

Yes yes yes. We loved them at their old location, and this new place has even more seating. We go at least once a week. While my high cholesterol is not a fan, I highly recommend the espresso shake with vanilla bean ice cream. Love the staff. Friendly and helpful and smiling. The manager even wore a sheet and pretended to be a ghost serving me a latte for a photo scavenger hunt. :) They have a few outdoor tables and plenty of plug-ins inside for long hours of computer work. Oh! And the muffins and croissants! Blueberry muffin and chocolate croissant. If you can't decide on one, you should get them both. read more

I've been here a couple of times, and both times they were super fast and my drinks were great quality. I haven't tried this location's ice cream, but I have had Mike's many times from the original location downtown. This place doesn't have the same aesthetic that many other reputable coffee shops in Nashville have, but you know what? That can be refreshing sometimes. This place is in an old bank! So great to have house made Mike's ice cream right here on the East side when the craving hits. They always have a generous selection of rotating flavors. My favorite is the horchata but the banana pudding is a close second. My husband swears by the chocolate overload. I haven't tried their coffee yet so have no opinion on it. I did notice they now have international hot chocolate with flavors from around the world. It's nice that they stay open later in the evening, not many coffee places do. The decor is casual and looks like it was a bank in its previous life. They make the ice cream back behind what was the tellers stations and there's remnants of banking paraphernalia on the walls. Just stopped in on our way out of town. We ordered regular coffee iced vanilla latte and a hot vanilla latte. Our latte tasted like warm milk very little coffee in the latte. I love this place. I treat my self to an iced americano after on my offs days and it's always delicious. The staff is very friendly and while service is slower than some coffee shops I have never had to remind them that I requested almond milk. They've often gone above and beyond when I've requested dairy free options to blended drinks and they even have sorbet in the ice cream chest! My husband loves their ice cream and you get a huge portion for one scoop! It's the closest coffee shop to my house, so i have come in a few times and have always gotten iced coffees, but I don't find them to be very strong coffee and I think it's water-y to be honest. They closed on McGavock Pike and opened a little mobile pop up in the parking lot of OMG (Old Made Good) shop... Stopped here this morning and got me a delicious cup of coffee (12oz) for $2.24 w/tax. Delicious! Took a few photos (which I'll upload soon). As I was leaving, people were driving up in their vehicles for their morning cuppa joe. Obviously, people know about this because there was no shortage of business. I was driving past when I noticed it and did a big U-turn in the middle of Gallatin Road, just to stop at this place. I would stop here every morning for coffee if I wasn't a coffee maker......... It was random..... and I'm glad I saw it... Glad I tried it. Glad I said hello to the girls. Decent coffee, depending on the roast of the day. Decent ice cream selection as well. Nothing surprising here. I will say that I have never encountered a line here, which is nice. This place has recently moved to building formerly occupied by a bank, and the cool thing is they embraced it. There is a safe in the entrance, they have straws and such things in old containers the bank used for storing change and such things. I commend them with going with the bank theme.
