I know a lot of ppl LOVE this place, but I just haven't ever had a great experience myself. It's definitely worth a visit since so many ppl like it so much--you might be one of them! :D Cons: The wait is forever! The staff doesn't always acknowledge you at first. The menu sounds dee-licious, but the execution of the food isn't great. The eclectic decor style is nice, but here it ends up looking cluttered. There isn't always room to sit. Great cozy place to sit for a long time. Right in the square you are able to see a lot of active movement outside while enjoying your food. When we stopped in I had a mix of a fruit and oolong tea, my friend had a Carmel macchiato. Both drinks were served in lovely glass mugs, hers was clear so you could see the layers. Mine was a large painted mug with a great loose leaf tea infuser made of steel that you took out after a couple mins and sit on a side plate. The quinoa soup is really warming on the body and a wonderful blend of spices and flavors. Their trio sampler of sandwiches was nice and refreshing. With a side salad and house made dressing on the side to round out the meal. I would highly recommend this place. read more

I get coffee here often and it's always a good experience. I've never gotten food because I'm gluten-free and assumed they didn't have anything for me. However, I was with a friend who was eating, so I decided to ask and found out they offer a gf bagel. And when they found out I'm gf for an allergy, they even cleaned off the grill before toasting the bagel so I wouldn't get sick! They were super nice about it, too. We were in Crown Point one day, walked by Sip, and decided to go in. I ordered a chocolate chai, which was delicious. They actually used looseleaf tea to make the drink rather than the liquid mix that most coffee shops use. It was the most flavorful chocolate chai drink that I had ever had. The two women who worked there were really nice. They told us that they have live music every so often. The space is nice and has a lot of comfortable chairs. If I lived closer I would go to this place every day. read more

Came to town for a visit with my parents and figured I'd take my boyfriend, who is from the Pacific Northwest, to get some coffee/tea somewhere. I haven't lived in NWI for 6 years so I wasn't sure where to go but came to Sip based on Yelp reviews. Sadly, we had poor customer service here, which ruined the experience. We wanted to grabs drinks to-go and walk around the square. There was a young male and female working, maybe in their 20s. We walked in a little unsure of what to do and where to go and the staff just stared at us from behind the counter and asked if we were staying there or getting something to go. There were no pleasantries exchanged, no "have a nice days," not even a smile. Just very curt "okays" and here are your drinks. I have been to many independent coffee shops and the customer service here was the poorest. The staff didn't appear to enjoy what they were doing and seemed like we were an inconvenience. Boyfriend wasn't quite sure what he wanted but stated a "chai tea - iced." What he ended up getting tasted like it had sweetener/flavoring in it, which he didn't like. I got the peanut butter latte which was good. After the poor, unfriendly customer service and bf not liking his drink. We stopped at the other coffee shop on the corner, Cafe Fresco, which I wish we had gone to to begin with! I will probably not go back to Sip, and if I'm in the area again, I will take my money to Cafe Fresco! If you hate your job or working with customers, don't work at a coffee shop or cafe. At least try to be friendly and smile every now and then! read more

I'm surprised the ratings are so high for sip. I've been there a couple times now and I've been disappointed every time. The coffee is simply not good compared to the other places in the area. One time I ordered an iced coffee with a little bit of flavored syrup. What I received was a disgustingly artificial drink that was seriously like they dumped the syrup in and topped it with a small amount of coffee. It was not drinkable. And the desserts in general aren't anything to waste your calories on. I agree with some reviews on here about the vibe of the employees - I always feel kinda uncomfortable and unwelcome when I go in there. read more

My daughter and I absolutely LOVE this place! I moved from Crown Point a year ago and really miss this little gem on "The Square". This place is so unique and funky! Comfy chairs and couches to sit at, unique coffee selections and regular specials. The food is pretty decent too. The atmosphere is so cool and staff very friendly. Such a cute little place! Mood lighting, pillows and low ceilings give this joint a cozy feel. I love that they have a full menu as well as drinks. I was disappointed by the customer service. I like coming here for the coffee and atmosphere. I also like drinking my coffee out of a coffee mug while I dine in and not a to-go cup. I ordered and payed and then I asked the gentleman if my coffee can be put in a mug and he said they only do that with a 20z and rolled his eyes. I had already payed but I said ok well I will just pay for another coffee and make it a 20oz. The girl said no ur fine and they did it anyways. If a customer asks for something so simple, the people working should simply just say yes. Just bad customer service. I am in sales and my career is all customer service. I would have said yes without a thought and even asked if there was anything else I needed. Very unfortunate because I love the place. read more

I love local coffee shops. The sip is super unique and we love going when we visit family. I really like their food. I will say that some items like the sandwiches have a bit more parmesan than I would like but they taste great. If your wanting some thing hearty go for any sandwich. This is such a great coffee shop. The coffee is amazing, and they have some great food: especially the soups. Anytime you order food you get cheese, crackers, and apricot jelly which is an adorable touch. The lattes are very cleverly made and they've been very good too. I usually go here with my laptop to work on stuff and it's never overly busy where I feel bad taking up a table but sometimes I feel like some of the staff is rushing me despite me having different work materials out. That being said, I've had some great service by some do the servers and I have yet to be disappointed by the food. I feel the 5 star rating is well deserved. read more

I ordered 30 cupcakes and 5 pounds of pasta from them for my Graduation party, at first they told me 60 dollars for the cupcakes, until I went and took them a color sample to match all my decorations they then told me it was going to be 75 and an extra 5 dollars for every color. I wasn't happy about it so I cancelled my order of cupcakes a week before my party and just stuck with the pasta salad. The day of my graduation party I went in to pick my order up and the lady rolled her eyes when I said I was there to pick up my order. After she walked in the back for a few seconds she came out and said " yeah it's not here, it's bogus I no" and began to walk away, I said "what do you mean you don't have it? It's for my graduation party?" Her response was " it's not in the fridge" I was furious and walked out. Later that day I had posted something about it on Facebook and they replied with " you canceled your cupcakes the day before, the pasta is here if you want to come and get it, you stormed out of the store" this is not how you run a business! read more

I go there for breakfast, lunch and late night hot teas! My favorite breakfast item is The Scrambler, yum, yum, yum. My favorite lunch item is the Buffalo Chicken Wrap deeeeelish! Not a coffee drinker, so my favorite hot tea is by far the Cherry Flavor! Make sure you steep it long enough and ask for extra leaves, sometimes they skimp on the tea leaves and the flavor is bland. read more
