SteamWhistle is located across from the Lake County Fairgrounds in a small plaza. The cafe is always busy with customers coming and going. They offer a wide selection of coffee drinks, sandwiches, and pastries. I tried an iced white mocha with lavender and a milk substitute, which I found to be quite good. We also ordered a breakfast grilled cheese, and it was incredibly cheesy and delicious. Additionally, they have a great selection of tea and merchandise. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking them out; it will be worth it! You can also order ahead, which I suggest doing, especially since it was packed the Saturday we visited. read more

On a Sunday afternoon my toddler screamed the dreaded words from the backseat....mommy I have to go potty. So I scanned for a location we could use a toilet and spotted steam whistle and thought great I can get a tea too. The coffee shop was cute and people were there on their computer or talking with friends. It reminded me of what going to a coffee shop in the 90s was like. My son and I each ended up getting a cake pop and berry refresher drink. The cake pop was moist and really good. The berry refresher was also delicious. Being new to the Crown Point area it was so nice to find a small coffee shop with such a great atmosphere. I have tried other "small town" coffee shops and had a less than friendly experience. This place was warm and welcoming. It sounds cliche but when you are greeted with warmth and friendliness it really does make a difference. Interior was large enough to meet with friends or doom scroll in one of the many corners. Music was great and at the perfect level to still be able to hold a conversation but also recognize your favorite song in the rotation. They do have an outdoor patio that was a little too cold for this late April morning but will probably be great in a week or two. Cold brew was fantastic and my bacon egg and cheese wrap was hot and delicious. The perfect ratio of egg, cheese and bacon inside that warm tortilla made me want to order another. It's amazing how easy it is to screw up this basic combo but this place delivers. Two hot coffees to go one Americano and one drip for the sleepy heads at home that didn't want to be up early on a Sunday. Groggy sighs of approval after the first sips let me know that the hot coffees were just as good as everything else I ordered. I recently visited my best friend, who lives in Crown Point. I woke up Saturday morning and remembered no one in that house drinks coffee. Immediately, I opened up my Yelp app & discovered Steam Whistle Coffee is just six minutes up the road from her. The space is nice to have a quick coffee with a friend, and maybe even do a little business prep for the upcoming week because they offer several small tables and chairs. It's not a big enough space to offer loveseats or squishy chairs though. A large coffee to go was $3.12 which absolutely delighted me! I don't see prices like that in Indianapolis! My barista left a little room at the top so I could add my splash of cream and sugar. The self-serve table for cream and sugar and lids was very clean and orderly. Even on a bus Saturday morning, they were paying attention to these details. Looking forward to visiting them again next time I'm in town. read more

When I drove up it looked like I was at a costal area going into a mom and pop shop. As you walk in you are greeted with the fresh aroma of coffee and delicious food that's being prepared. Everyone there were so kind and friendly, ready and waiting to help you with your needs. I felt right at home with the coziness of the seating area and the decor was just right. Now on to the food the portion sizes were very generous and so delicious. My tastebuds were dancing in my mouth with delight, very flavorful and so savory. I got a "grown up grilled cheese" with delicious buttered bread, cheese and some bacon along with a turkey gouda sandwich. The turkey gouda was unbelievably delicious with perfect ratio of bread to goods inside. The espresso I got from here was delightful as well. I'd heard decent reviews on this coffee shop, so I decided to check it out. Located in a small center by the Lake County Fairgrounds, there is more than enough decent parking available. The outside is just as inviting as the interior, with various forms of seating available, ranging from high chairs to tables, to couches and individual sofas. The service is probably what would be the biggest quality. The baristas were not only friendly, but incredibly accommodating, and entertained conversation for a while about their interests as well as coffee preferences. The coffee was delicious. I tried the brown sugar cinnamon ice coffee -perfect amount of sweet and flavor. It is a great meet-up spot, and definitely worth checking out. I will be coming back for sure! read more
