The mochi topping was a bit hard, and the misugaru started blowing away in the wind and getting all over our clothes! Definitely consider the weather in SF and how this might affect your plans, because I wouldn't have gone with this topping had we thought ahead. A very accurately named store! Can't go wrong with shaved ice for dessert, no matter the weather. They have so many flavor options that literally cover an entire wall, with a plethora of toppings too! All of their flavors sounded good, and I wish I could sample all of them. I ended up going with the Valencia in a regular size so I could avoid decision anxiety; this was a preset bowl of horchata shaved ice with different toppings that was exactly what I was craving. My friend got the other preset option, Cereal Killer, which tasted just like fruity pebbles ice cream as promised. It looks like a lot when first presented to you (like so high and so fluffy), but as you eat it, the toppings start making the ice sink lol. A more manageable portion size after that :) Their shop is small with not much waiting room besides a bench against the window, and I think most people go to their outside tables to eat their shaved ice. Not super ideal for cold windy evenings like when we went, and we huddled in my car to finish them. We got mango and Mexican chocolate and both were tasty, but for me both (especially the Mexican chocolate) were too sweet which made the flavor tiring to get through. Came by on a Wednesday and this little hole-in-the-wall shop is so adorable. There's a small bench inside for seating but otherwise there are also a few tables out front! I got the pina colada flavor with passionfruit drizzle and my friend got the guava with sprinkles. We both got kid sizes which costs $6 and the toppings are either $0.75 or $1.25 depending on which one you get. The pina colada flavor was not too sweet, and refreshing. The texture of the shaved ice is amazing. It's so fluffy, smooth, and completely melts in your mouth with ease. No ice crystals are anything! Probably one of the best shaved ice textures I've tried thus far! The passionfruit drizzle had a nice tartness though I am not sure it was worth the $1.25 and it was a bit too tart to pair with the pina colada in my opinion. I tried some of my friend's guava and it was superb as well. More dairy flavor since it wasn't a vegan flavor like the pina colada so it was a bit more rich which is nice. I've been curious to try Powder for almost two years since I moved to SF. The deterrent to coming has always been the fact that there's insufficient, comfortable indoor seating. There are outdoor benches, but it's rarely warm enough to linger there while trying to enjoy a frozen dessert. I finally stopped by though after dinner across the street because it was convenient. We got a kid sized bowl of the passionfruit shaved ice with mochi topping. After placing our order, we stood inside in the cramped space in front of the counter, which we shared with a few other guests. There was only bench to sit on to wait for orders, and a party ahead of us claimed it. After a few other orders, we received our shaved ice. It was really light, like snow powder, and instantly melted to nothing upon eating with nothing left but mochi to chew. I liked the flavour, and it was gone pretty quickly. I would like to come back and try other flavours like the black sesame, but the fact it's not a comfortable space to sit with friends really deters me from wanting to return. If the entryway were even larger to comfortably accommodate more people standing, I would be more incentivized. It just really isn't reasonable during the winter to consume a frozen dessert outside, and takeout isn't a good option since shaved ice is best eaten fresh as soon as it's served. read more

I got to KEN early for my reservation so I ended up grabbing dessert at Powder first since it's right next door I ordered a mexican chocolate shave ice with mochi, oreo crumble, and red bean (azuki) toppings, as well as a plain croffle on the side, which was fine but not standout (though I do think it's one of the better croffles that I've had!).
