Leer (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong!) has been absolutely amazing each time--so kind and welcoming--and the same goes for the other cashiers and cooks. The whole team creates such a positive vibe from the moment you walk in. My go-to meal? The chicken, mac & cheese, and waffle loaded with cookie butter, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. On my very first visit, they asked what flavors I liked, and I told them "sweet and savory"--and they nailed it. Ever since then, it's been my regular. I always think about trying something new, but I can't help coming back for that combo--it's just that good. Today, Leer mentioned they were exploring opening new locations, and I told her Fort Worth would absolutely love a place like this. With the owner being a veteran and Fort Worth having such a strong military community, I know people there would rally behind it. We love supporting our own. Also, if you really listen, the music playing in the background is all original--and every track tells a story about the restaurant's culture, energy, and mission. My son's Chocolate Banana Belgian waffle was very sweet and he loved it. My wife's Chicken and Waffles served with mac-n-cheese was perfect. She loves Mac-n-cheese. My waffle Sandwich filled with eggs, chicken and Bacon with cheese was so filling I could only eat half! I can't wait to eat the other half! Their coffee was rich and flavorful as well. The restaurant interior is decorated with customer graffiti. Patrons from days gone by have shared their names, art and wisdom in multicolored markers over most of the walls. A few flat screens display menu items and feature local advertisements. One monitor near the register shows the menu. The tables are bright red wooden picnic tables. WAWN looks a bit sketchy from the outside, and truthfully from the inside too. But, it is delicious food at Alaska affordable prices. Our total bill was about 60.00 with tip. Which is on the lower end for Alaska where I have found prices are about 20% or more higher than the lower 48. I absolutely recommend this gem to locals and visitors alike. Second time coming to their new-ish brick and motor store on Muldoon I think where the old Paris cafe used to be. It's definitely an interesting inside. Green pained floors with a dozen bright red picnic tables to sit at. The walls are covered with people's messages and signatures (ours included, look for one of the Woodstocks) they also have a kid area with books and toys. You go up to the counter to order and then they bring it out to you or call your name. This is a triple D location because his waffles are darn good. Even his chicken strips. Wow. This restaurant can be described as unique and exceptional. We arrived to the restaurant and were greeted by the staff asking if this was our first time. It was our first time. So, the chefs chose our first meal and stated that if we didn't like what they chose for us, then after two bites we could return it and choose something else from their full menu. From the outside it looks like it would be a pawn shop. Inside I was slightly taken aback as it looks a little more centered around kids kind of like a daycare. I think it's supposed to be like going to a food truck with the picnic table experience inside. Your first time eating there you don't choose what they make you. You give them your allergies and they whip up something to accommodate. So that's a different kind of experience. The food is wonderful. I don't know how they just know what I like and how I like it but it was incredibly well done. I'm unsure what the sauces are but I did get some kind of sweet nut butter sauce with my waffle and sweet hot sauce with my fried chicken. The amount of food served is so large you could easily feed two people from one plate.
