The pros: Our tour guide/bus driver, Don, was excellent. He seriously made the whole trip. He was so kind and helpful and fun loving, he was a great match for our group. The wine tour was excellent we had an extensive tour of the grounds and they make their wine. It was the best tour we got the whole trip. The brewery had corn hole which made a great activity as our day was winding down. The pub lunch was great and had choices for everyone. Cons: Definitely overpriced for "tasting tours" when out of the three places when we only got one real "tour". Pretty disappointed and we all wished we got actual tours of the distillery and brewery since that is what we paid for. We didn't get to stay at the winery very long or hang out before we had to leave-- we thought this was the best location out of all three.

We were able to take the train from Center City to Doylestown. At Doylestown, their driver - Linda (actually the founder) was there to greet us. Leading up to the planning of this event, we worked with Linda and had a very good experience. She knew the area, suggested eateries and talked about the country side. All this just added what I call "free extras" to the already low price. Plus there are shopping baskets, bottles of water, and storage cases for new wine while on your journey. This is a well thought out operation. We had a group of 5. Our biggest concern is who we would sit with on the bus; however, after the first stop everyone was loosened up (the first stop allows you to pour or own samples!) and the conversations just started rolling out. We had a great time and thanks to Linda for making it work out.

It's not like they hide it and then spring it on you. Yes it's difficult to understand what's being said through the speakers. They need to address that. But the employees who walk through the cars answering questions make up for it. Very pleasant and knowledgeable. The ride through parts of New Hope was a delight. I had a cousin visiting from the West coast who is, "in to trains" like Sheldon Cooper! He was absolutely thrilled. We all loved how the people in the houses along the way waved to us. If you enjoy vintage trains and a nice ride it's great. The children that were on board all seemed to be having a great time. Next time my cousin visits he already requested that we return. We will!

When I rode this train last year, it was truly an awful experience and thought it was ridiculously overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's still overpriced! But what has changed that I could see was a massive improvement in customer service with the workers we interacted with. I only returned since there was a ticketing snafu where somehow I got charged double. Last year, I tried calling to resolve it and despite all my efforts, they would not refund my money. With this in mind, I booked the Santa Train since I already had most of the train cost covered with last year's double booking from the credit that I had on file. My family and I came during Thanksgiving and I was initially really surprised by just how empty our car was. It was the last train of the night, but still, I would have thought a busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend would have been packed. It could also be that people like us have booked in the past, got frustrated and swore off coming back for good. I waiting to board the train, and was standing outside in the freezing cold weather and the worker told me I could hop on. I really really appreciated this, since on my last ride, I ended up standing outside while the train was in the station but they were super strict on the boarding time. Once inside the train, they were efficient in the boarding and making sure we were comfortable. Off we went, and we were entertained by singing and the band even requested songs by all those in the car. And other staff offered to take our family's photo. Santa came through and even gave the kids a little gift. Santa and Mrs. Clause spent plenty of time chatting with my kids and it was very nice to see. There is a small cart that is rolled out where you can purchase drinks including alcoholic beverages for the adults to add to your hot cocoa. They also had some snacks for purchase. A nice touch was the complimentary hot chocolate and baked cookies. My daughter got caught up in the excitement and spilled hot cocoa all over her lovely dress. Not only did the workers offer to help clean it up, but they even brought over a bottle of sparkling water for us to use along with a towel to clean her up. The woman helping out even got in and started scrubbing the dress with us. We had a nice dinner planned for after the ride and it was just a really nice gesture and my partner and I couldn't believe how much was improved from our previous experience. I'm willing to come back and give this place another shot.

The wedding Mass was at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in Doylestown, and the reception was at Hollyhedge Estate. The bride (our niece) and groom, and the families, found a fantastic location with a great staff, at a wonderful location... so good that even a light rain throughout the day could not dampen the event. Hollyhedge and The 1740 House have the same owners, and they offer a shuttle bus from our room to the reception... we were able to socialize on the ride and not worry about driving home... three bus times were available. - - - The Arrival - - - Our first impression was a strongly positive one... it was still raining lightly as we arrived and as we stepped off the bus, there was a sizeable team of Hollyhedge team members holding umbrellas waiting to escort each of us / each couple inside... not a single raindrop fell on our clothes, thanks to "The Hollyhedge 'Umbrella Brigade'." (my respectful term) - - - The Food - Hours d'Ouvres - - - Some fantastic hours d'Ouvres were served, and if there had no been a site-down dinner, another couple of rounds of these would have filled us nicely... each and all were fantastic! - meat and cheese and fruit trays - bacon-wrapped shrimp - salmon fish tacos - grilled cheese and tomato soup - Philly cheesesteaks bites - Hamburger sliders - fried chicken on a waffle - - - The Food - Dinner - - - VERY good steak, and potatoes and veggies; and the person who ordered the chicken shared approval of her dish, too. And wonderful desserts which disappeared, fast. Good wine at the table, and the bar, which is a full bar. - - - The Basket at the Sink in the Restrooms - - - In both men's and women's room had baskets with anything you could think of... perfume, band-aids, and more... thankfully barely touched, but they thought of anything... to get you cleaned up and back out on the dance floor. - - - The Reception - - - The reception was in a Hall accessed via a short walk from the main building. It has high ceilings, and a bar and comfortably seated the ~200 guests. And the dance floor was the place to be. - - - The Ride Home, back to The 1740 House - - - After the main room was closed for the night, we went back to the front building for more socializing and a snack and then the buses got us back to the 1740 House, safe and sound Thank you, Hollyhedge Estate ----- ----- -----

Soulless and cowardly would be the two words that come to mind first. Executives sitting on a…read moreperch not to be disturbed. A staff with horrible PR skills. How do you end a call with "try to have a better day" with someone who just lost a love one? A tour director that is taking the easy way out by calling a guest instead of the family directly to have a conversation. My mother booked a bus tour/Norwegian Cruise tour with a group of old friends that was supposed to leave in September. Sadly, my mother recently passed away, but during the fight of her life she "missed" the cancellation day for Starr tours. Under these extenuating circumstances you would think a company would put people over profits. Not Starr tours. They are doubling down. When I called to plead with them a woman named Sandy kept referring to their policy instead of having compassion. She kept passing the buck saying it's not in her "scope" to make those kinds of decisions. When I asked to speak to someone who can make those decisions she decided to shield her bosses and say they aren't available. All she could end the conversation with was "try to have a better day." It was a cold conversation. Try to have a better day? I don't know how these people sleep at night. I hope their money keeps them warm at night. BTW Norwegian has a 30 day cancellation policy, so they have a chance to get money back out of this, but they clearly aren't working hard enough. I decided to take a trip to their company building to plead with them further. Sandy answered the door and reluctantly let me in after realizing who I was. I gave a copy of the death certificate and once again pleaded my case. I was given the same lip service, but that the person who could help me further wouldn't be in for the rest of the week. I patiently waited for a phone call from a Chris and still haven't received a call. If it's the same person this Chris called my mothers friend on the trip instead of me to let her know she would have to pay extra (over $1,300) for single occupancy on the trip OR we would have to find someone to buy my mothers trip (around $1,800). NO phone call to me as of yet. Also how do you do this to a grieving friend? They were friends for almost 60 years! How can these people be so cowardly? Where is the compassion? In the last few weeks I have had to deal with the unexpected loss of my mother and all of the funeral plans. Spending countless hours of time making the calls to various places to make them aware of her death and this company has the guts to do this. In the bio of the company the owner Sandy sounded so relatable. Her and her husband Pete had to fight, scratch and claw to keep their livelihood and company that her father built from the ground up alive during the pandemic. My mother fought so hard to save her life. I'm so sorry she couldn't call your company on time because she was too busy trying to live. In business you can't always point to policy. Beyond policy, how can you treat people like this and think it's ok? I hope the owner reads and fixes this because the staff is only making a terrible tragedy even worse! Don't force a grieving family to have to peddle my mothers trip. Do the RIGHT thing. Truly heartless and painful experience!
