I love Sisters! Probably because I live across the street, I tell everyone to meet me here so I don't have to travel. I've pretty much tried everything on the menu and I've been there the most for lunch I love the veggie burger. For dinner try the fried green tomato pesto appetizer. When I ate meat I loved the fried chicken sandwich and the skirt steak. If you want to try the whitefish toast(which sounds yummy) come for brunch. Its always sold out during lunchtime. Oh and the space, how could I forget the space? Its open and airy with an awesome skylight. And there are 2 bars and some nights live music. What's better than that?!? read more

Ok, I have never been inspired to write a review before. Ever. This is my first one. THE FOOD IS BAD. The drinks are good, the ambience is really incredible. But the two times I ate here, the food tasted like it was made yesterday and microwaved. Like, it was hot in some places and cold in others. Held off writing this for a while cos I live in the neighborhood and REALLY wanted to love this place. They need to start serving wine in real wine glasses - you have to ask for one. They also, on the occasions my friends and I have gone there didn't bring meals out at same time, like 10 mins or more between them which is kinda rough if your the last one to get it and left eating on your own. I'm guessing the kitchen is too small by the looks of it. Have often worked in and not been served for a good while despite it being pretty empty. All that said, the space is absolutely gorgeous, one of the most beautiful in the city, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. read more

It was traumatizing!! We went there for dinner (I was on a date). A very stressed out blond lady wearing a chef jacket attempted to seat us but ended up seating a couple that came in after us. After I approached her to explain that we were waiting to be seated first, she had a breakdown and started reprimanding me in a condescending and VERY nasty tone expressing that it was all my fault! I explained to her that her tone was very offensive, she then motioned her hands towards the door pretty much asking us to leave, I gladly walked out. I have never been treated with such nastiness and disrespect in an establishment. Thanks to that disturbed chef she ruined my date night and Sisters lost 2 patrons. If this place were an ice cream flavor it would be Vanilla. It is faux industrial glam-sterism (glamorous hipsterism) that bought some reclaimed wood that went to the Target section full of Chip and Joanna Gaines fixer upper decor, with a tired interior vibe reminiscent of a once interest provoking style of interior design back in 2007. Now, its more meh. You've got the overpriced coffee, you've got your buttery Frittatas in a cast iron mini-skillet served to you, you've got your cold eggs benedict and your over-sugared french toast. You've got your $14.00 cocktails that are way too sugary and in small nauseating "hip" glasses. Hemmingway once said "I think there are no uninteresting meals, just uninteresting restaurants" but if he went here, he'd probably amend that to say that both seem to be the case at this joint. Overall I was disappointed in my experience at Sisters. Aside from the decor and ambience, this place left a lot to be desired. I went for dinner with my parents on a Sunday evening. Started with fried pickles, they were ok, nothing too special. My mom and I both ordered the chicken sandwich and my dad got the sausage. It was not a good fried chicken sandwich . Incredibly dry, and over cooked chicken, the breading was hard and just fell off with one bite. Way too much aioli and pickled slaw on the roll, pretty much made the sandwich inedible. And the bread was stale and dry. Best part of the meal was the hand cut French fries. My dads sausage plate seemed good. Service was ok, prices are abit high, Seems this place may be better just for drinks or a date. read more

I understand your clientele may be thankless, which blows but strive to not assume every guest is going to be a thankless soul. A large space, very aestheticly pleasing, with an interesting decor. However, I had a continuous feeling that it was hard to decipher. It's hard to tell what it's going to be like from the outside, so walking in I was a positively surprised. Apart from the decor, the place was almost empty, which made me feel a little weird. I couldn't make out what is this place supposed to be, maybe some sort of a take on a modern diner. I went in for lunch, however, I arrived at 3:40pm and was told they don't serve lunch anymore, and only have burgers. The menu hanging on the door didn't mention lunch hours, so I didn't know that. I ended up ordering the veggie burger (as I am a vegetarian). It was really good! Probably one of the best I've ever had. I do think it was a little over priced (I ended up paying almost 21$ after tipping 18%). The service was quick and efficient, though not very friendly. read more

If I could give SISTERS zero stars, I would. Upon me entering the restaurant I was told to have a seat at the back bar until my party arrived. When I sat at the back bar it was empty, yet it took 10 mins for me to be acknowledged by a bartender. Once I was acknowledged, the bartender didn't seem to be interested in serving me. Instead of ordering a drink, I decided to wait for my friend to arrive so that I could move to the front of the restaurant where it was more interactive. After sitting there for another 5 mins, a bar patron sat next to me and immediately stated "I just realized this is where all the BLACK PEOPLE...", looked at me, chuckled and said "Never mind!". I looked at the bartenders in shock, expecting them to say something, yet they laughed and turned around. I immediately exited SISTERS out of humiliation and waited outside until my friend arrived. As I was waiting, witnesses came out to speak to me in curiosity and to inquire about what transpired. I'm more disappointed in the restaurant staff for not stepping up to the plate, not just as employees, but also as friends, because I later learned that these employees were friends of the racist bar patron. This is my first and my last time visiting SISTERS. As a journalist and producer with an extensive and valuable network, this is not a place that I would bring someone again. I am very disappointed in this business, very beautiful on the outside, not so much the inside. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. What we were told would be a 30 minute wait became an hour forty, with the news being delivered by slow-drip morphine, but without the satisfying end. I was expecting a lot coming here as it looks so nice from the outside. Firstly I must say the decor is amazing! However the service is some of the worst I have experienced in a long time. I went on a Wednesday night and the female bartender in the back was not the best. I had to find her as she was not behind the bar, she then took forever to make my order, stopped during to go say bye to a friend. The other staff were not better. The staff is not welcoming nor inviting. Honestly I would rather go to a not as nice place for great customer service. I wish them well and hope they get their act together. Bad Experience I have been a Clinton Hill resident now for 3 years. Last night we (my date and I) were treated horribly by your chef (blond female wearing a pony tail). My date had already been sitting at the end of the bar waiting for me, there weren't any open tables. as I arrived waiting patiently to find a hostess which was a challenge. A couple walked in front of us and the blond chef greeted them. As soon as they were finished talking I asked her "how long is the wait?" She seemed frazzled and stressed, I did not get an answer, we followed her thinking she was going to seat us. She walked over to where my friend sat, grabbed his chair and placed it at the back bar next to another empty chair. (My natural thought was that she was about to seat us so I asked her "is this for us?" She "with frustration" replied "No" the chairs were for the other couple. I explained to her that the chair she just grabbed belonged to my friend who had already been waiting before them. She suddenly "snapped" at me and with a really rude and inappropriate tone saying (well why didn't you tell me as I grabbed the chair?!!!) and with frustration pointed at the chairs "You can have it!" I was so taken aback and offended by her disrespectful tone ! I calmly explained to her (I understand that you maybe stressed and a lot is on your plate at the moment but this is not how it works, you can't talk to people this way) she kept snapping at me (You did this to me- you made me grab the chair and did not say anything, she started arguing with me as if we were in the street!) I was so uncomfortable and surprised that an employee would talk down to a customer that way, and in my case a regular customer who now is genuinely hesitant to go back and encounter her mean spirit.) I did not want to sit because she already set a negative tone, she was rude and disrespectful. She then motioned her hands towards the door (as if to say you can leave if you don't like it). Sorry if this is too thorough of a description but I seriously was hurt by her treatment and felt that it is important to bring this up to management. We went to another bar down the street but I could not get past how badly she talked to me and treated us. If this was your head chef last night, she should not be on the floor greeting people because she cannot manage and remain pleasant during stressful situations as I imagine is normal for restaurants. I am a chef that caters to high end clients in the city myself and I am aware how things can get stressful in your own kitchen but in no way do we treat customers or clients badly especially when they were simply wanting to know if a table was for them or not. read more

I was visiting a relative in the area and we came here for Easter brunch. The highlight of this place is definitely the environment in which you get to eat. Everything is clean, and new, and there's an enormous skylight that lets you look into the sky. The service is fine, and the food was OK. We all sampled each other's plates and I liked the egg sandwich the best. My grits with shrimp was underwhelming to be honest. My wife got the Sister's Tart, which had potential to be better, but it was a little overdone. All that being said, I know I made the food seem only mediocre, but really, the decor make up for it and have an extremely inviting experience. I wish more restaurantors took as much patience with the look of their establishment as the owners of Sisters do. read more

I'm a big fan of Sisters and have come here often and always had a great time. But their recent menu change and price hike I wanted to write about. We had 4 delightful but small vegetarian small plates last night that were all priced between $10-14 dollars but portion size, were more like $6-$8 side dishes. Food was great and we were full but with one glass of wine each the bill with tip was $98 - for butternut squash, roasted beets, a very small shredded Brussel sprout salad and 4 small arancini mushroom balls. Again, no problem with small portion sizes, but all of those dishes should have been under $10 for the amount and ingredients included. I'm not a penny pincher when it comes to eating out and this is the first time I've felt moved to write a review - but this is a local favorite and I'd like to keep going. Went there for a late dinner last night and was really disappointed by the food and then by what happened at the end of the night. It's such a gorgeous place and would be so awesome if the food and staff was on brought up to that level. The chicken sandwich I ordered came out raw so I sent it back. The waitress told me that it was impossible cause it was "fried twice" but brought it back anyway. She brought me a new one and admitted that the first one was raw. The second one came out charred but I ate it anyway. It, along with the whitefish toast, was pretty mediocre. The fried pickles were really good though. We got the bill and the waitress didn't comp any drinks or the sandwich, which I thought was odd because, you know, food poisoning. So we didn't tip her. Yes, it was kinda bold and honestly I've never stiffed a waiter before. I would have brought up the issue with the bill but she never came back to the table. We left her a note saying why we did it and then proceeded to go from feeling guilty to pissed off to offended. Maybe it was bad form and I would have felt a bit guilty about it for a while if not for what happened next. About ten minutes after the waitress sent us a message on Instagram! She actually got our name from a credit card and stalked us online to tell us off. We won't be going back to this place for many reasons, most of all the bad menu, untrained kitchen staff and unprofessional wait staff. Who manages this place? read more

After reading other reviews here, I went to Sisters with fairly low expectations. I ended up being very pleasantly surprised by the good food, decent service and, as everyone has mentioned, the stunning interior. Sisters' management seems to be listening to Yelpers (or this was their get-off-the-ground strategy all along), as the menu has been expanded to two pages and now includes, among other things, daily flatbread specials and a delicious-looking fried chicken sandwich. The flatbread special was actually focaccia (not so 'flat', but tasty) topped with a spread of caramelized onions and mushrooms -- it really delicious. We also all ended up ordering burgers and were really happy with both the beef & veggie burgers. They weren't anything groundbreaking, but they were well cooked, the bun was good, and they definitely satisfied our burger cravings. All in all I think they have a good thing going and will likely get better with time, which is great for those of us living in the neighborhood! The bartenders could definitely be a little friendlier to people as they walk in, since there's no hostess stand, but our server was fine and overall it was a tasty, enjoyable dinner. read more

My friend and I went for brunch on a Sunday. We were seated right away. We got the eggs benedict and the chicken and waffles. Both were delicious, and well-portioned. The "chorizo" on the benedict was just regular sausage. Nothing wrong with that, it tasted great, but I usually think of chorizo as the sausage cured in vinegar, red pepper, and paprika. The fried chicken was perfectly tender and not too greasy. I usually like a little more batter on my fried chicken, but really can't complain because it tasted great. Also, major points for the copious sriracha maple syrup and butter. (Maybe there was less batter on the chicken to counteract the fatassery of the syrup and butter). I basically licked the plate. I also ordered the leatherette cocktail with balsamic. It was delicious and strong enough that I only needed one drink over the course of 2 hours. I think there could have been even more balsamic in the drink than just a spritz on top. Maybe I'm the only one who likes to drink vinegar. That said, the entire cocktail menu sounded amazing with spring flavors like rhubarb and apricot. The price was also great considering my friend and I each ordered a hot tea (lemongrass and rooibos), an alcoholic drink, and an entree. The price is definitely something that will keep me coming back here instead of making it a special treat once. The service was really nice. They gave us more hot water for our tea and the tea was still strong and flavorful, which is always a sign of high quality. Everything people say about the atmosphere and design here is true. They had the windows open letting in the fresh air. The sun was shining through the skylights. The vaulted ceilings, plants, marble, natural wood, and tiling make you feel like you're in a majestic mid-century meets turn-of-the-century meets 21st-century wonderland. It sounds ridiculous, but I don't think I've been in a cooler looking bar in my life. I could just sit here and read and not order anything (well maybe that's frowned upon) and take in the scene. I thought it was funny when at one point three prototypical bros came in and asked the bartender/server how much brunch cost, "Like how much for bottomless?" as if the only way to brunch is to knock back as many drinks as possible for as little money as possible, with some halfway decent food on the side to help you get over your hangover. The bartender doesn't answer but turns around to grab them a brunch menu which contains the pricing. The bros go, "This guy is a dick!" I'm glad they looked at the menu and left. There's no shame in hitting up a bottomless brunch now and then, but by your mid 30s you should know better than to assume that every place is catering to the young/drunk/cheap crowd, especially a place that has so obviously taken care to curate every detail of their establishment - from the bathroom sinks to the cocktails. This isn't a place to go and knock back screw drivers. It's a place to sip a drink slowly and take in the atmosphere and savor your food. If you're looking for something else, I guess you'd be disappointed. read more

Can't speak for the whole menu but if you're looking for a good veggie burger this is a great spot. I would actually call this the best veggie burger I've ever had. A little expensive, but the side salad is a mountain of well dressed greens, so you end up getting your money's worth. I live seven blocks down Washington Ave; it's a spot I can go with my girl-friends for dependably great cocktails and atmosphere, but I can also go by myself for a delicious brunch or a glass of rose and a great book. We got the kale salad, mac and cheese, and fried chicken. The salad was drowning in cheese, the mac was embarrassingly average, and the fried chicken sandwich was hands down the worst I've ever had. It was burnt and flat. More wet than crispy. I don't normally feel compelled to write negative reviews but the food here is incredibly overpriced and absolutely terrible. Do not plan to eat here. Particularly, I have tried two dishes here but I want to focus my review on the egg sandwich from the brunch menu. It is one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had hands-down anywhere on the East Coast. The combination of the textures of the bread used and other quality ingredients literally made the following through my run through my mind; "This egg sandwich is like a good marriage."
