A good spot for rotisserie chicken. It is almost Peruvian style but the their white and green sauces are not similar to the Peruvian ones. The green one is like a salsa verde and the white one is yogurt based. They each cost $3. The chicken definitely needs the sauces which should be included. The fries were really good. The Fly really focuses on doing one thing incredibly well! The chicken is juicy and well seasoned. We got all of the sides and had the price fix deal. The atmosphere is cool and seating configuration is comfortable, but we were sweating our butts off in the back with no fans or air conditioning. The Caesar salad was delicious and a huge portion. It was well sauced and had a great crunchy topping. The string beans had a bit of a kick to them. The potatoes and fries were fine. The potatoes were cooked well but lacked any special flair, it was just potatoes and salt and there was a bunch of sauce underneath them but it was the same sauce the chicken had so kind of redundant. The fries were nothing special, a little oily kind of soggy in the middle and most of our fries were tiny little broken pieces, about an inch long and shorter. Our waiter was fantastic. A great guy who checked in often and always was kind and helpful. My absolute favorite thing was the doughnuts. I could eat those forever!!! The Fly is this wildly popular spot here in Brooklyn, NY doing what every restaurant in the world should do: Have a menu with 5-6 items that you specialize in and do it amazingly well! This is exactly what The Fly does; unlike a delicatessen that has 150 items on their menu and 90% of those items are mediocre. The bar menu here at The Fly takes up almost three full pages. The food menu takes up only four square inches; and those four square inches are a "Power House" of wonderful characteristics this place is known for - no if's and's or but's! Their specialty is baked chicken and is it fantastic. The aromas coming off of these birds hit you like a brick. It's really really good. Their Caesar salad is equally delicious and their roasted potatoes were above and beyond good. The green and white sauces really enhanced our dinner. The Fly is a small moody restaurant and bar that is great for date night or small groups. It is dimly lit with seating at the bar and in their dining room. As the name suggests, come for the chicken and just add a side. The food is great and the limited menu allows them to focus on what they're great at. The drinks are also very good here so I could even see coming here to sit at the bar for a drink or night cap without ordering any food. In town visiting friends and family and went here solo on a Saturday night and it was packed! I was still able to immediately sit down at the bar and get a drink pretty fast. Had to kinda flag down a waiter to order food but the meal came out super quick! I got the half chicken with green sauce and the green beans. Both were soooo tasty. Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is their cocktail list mostly consisted of aperol and bitters drinks and wine/beer. I enjoyed to jungle juice but I'm not big on aperol so I didn't love it. Came here for a pop up with @banchanbysunny on a weekday for dinner and had a lovely time. It got crowded quickly, but I arrived around 5:50pm and there were a bunch of free seats available. I ended up sitting at the bar and eating dinner there. For the two of us, we ordered: 1. Half a chicken (5/5) - Very filling and well seasoned. Liked making wraps with this and the banchan! 2. An assortment of banchan aka side dishes (4/5) - Green beans were my favorite. Eggplant and kimchi not bad. 3. Tteokbokki (5/5) - My favorite dish! The cheese worked sooo well in this. And the rice cakes were cooked perfectly. 4. Mochi Dessert (2/5) - Sadly not a fan of this. We ended up not finishing it. Would def recommend this as a cool spot to catch up. Didn't try any food from their regular menu so can't judge that nor can I judge the drinks but the ambience was nice and they had great music. This place is SOLID! Had it on my list for over a year now, and finally went with my uncle and cousins for a belated Father's Day dinner. I think it's a great-sized space with ample indoor AND outdoor seating (which we capitalized on) on a quiet block, on a Sunday evening. You might be thrown for a loop when you're given the menu. 7/8 of it is devoted to drinks, and you'll find the tiny food section in the bottom lower right hand corner of the 2nd page. Rotisserie chicken is the specialty here, and that's what we came for. You won't find much else on the menu beyond fries, bread and potatoes. Hector was an AWESOME server, and handled my uncle's conversation (who'd had quite a bit of drinks in his system already from the day) very well. He revealed the additional specials not shown on the menu, and my cousin opted for the fried brussels sprouts, which were kind of amazing. Freaking decadent even, if you've ever described a vegetable this way. We got a whole chicken for the table and both the white and green sauce to sample. GET THE GREEN. Even if you're not a spicy-lover, like me, GET THE GREEN SAUCE. The chicken was delicious, well-seasoned, tasty skin, and perfectly JUICY all throughout. They know how to handle their specialty. My family was thoroughly impressed. We also got a basket of fries which were on point. Apparently this place does wings sometimes, but they weren't available that day (sad face) or we would have surely added them to our order. Visited the Fly when I was in town based on a recommendation from my friend and it did not disappoint. It's first come first serve so be sure to come early if you want a larger table or have a preference for your seating area. We didn't have any issue getting seated and were quick to order. Yum! Don't let the simple menu deter you away because food here is delicious and packed with flavor and uniqueness. We ordered the 1/2 chicken with white sauce (it was cooked so well with lots of juice), some wings which were the special, chicken sandwiches, and a couple sides of potatoes and asparagus. The chicken sandwich was shredded chicken with some sort of relish deliciousness and came on a fresh baked bun. The sandwich itself was so freaking good, 5/5, but be prepared for a giant mess because the bottom half of the bun gets super soggy and just sorta collapses. I finished my chicken sandwich with a fork. The table ordered a round of cocktails, Manhattans and aperol spritzs (all good), and a bottle orange wine to share. Came here for a reservation of 10 for a friends birthday and had an amazing time. The food is AMAZING, truly the best roasted chicken I've ever had at a restaurant. When you have a larger party sized it's fixed price per person and you get everything on the menu, and honestly I think that's the way to do it. You know it was good because I forgot to take photos of everything past the first course of Caesar salad. Service was quick and the ambiance of the place is super hip. Cocktails were also a hit across the board. I feel like it's rare these days for me to find a place where everyone in a group of 10 gives the meal 5 stars and that's what this was. This place is really cute. The atmosphere is adorable. If you're someone who likes yellow lighting and very warm interiors, warm woody interiors then you would love this place. There are no reservations so we sat by the bar while we waited for a table and it was super quick. It was just 20 minutes and we had a drink by the bar which was very pleasant. The bar was a little busy so they have some hightop chairs you can sit at again very nice area. We sat down in the main seating area which is very spacious and pretty. They have a skylight which brings in a lot of natural light and we got the half chicken, Caesar salad and fries. I definitely see why this place is so popular. If Thanksgiving dinner was a trendy bar in Brooklyn- this is it. The drinks menu was at least 3 times bigger than the food menu. Chicken was juicy and tender. Potatoes soft and seasoned well. Fries lightly seasoned- mayo and ketchup provided String beans: not to my personal taste, vinegary and very bean forward. But my friends seemed to like it fine. The real winner: romaine salad, so much cheese and crumbled croutons were a nice crunchy contrast to the umami hit of the cheese. Drinks: Jungle: a good classic tequila cocktail with tropical notes and a nice pink color. Overall: thanksgiving foods and trendy bars aren't my personal favorites but food and drinks were solid. If a place advertises itself as a "chicken bar," you know damn well I'm going to go. Came in on a Saturday night to meet someone for dinner, but it was pretty packed. We went to another bar and then came back for a late dinner, and there was no wait. Got a table in the back by their wine "cellar", which was just a very nicely light shelf against the wall. Their wine selection is great. Only a few available by the glass, but from what I tried, they were delicious. I had a Spanish orange (Gulp Hablo Verdejo) which was good, but the chilled red (Le Mazel Vin de Soif) they had was even more spectacular. For food, we got one of their specials - mushrooms in vinegar, peppers, and fennel. SO GOOD!! Also got their roasted fingerlings. And of course, got half a rotisserie chicken. The white sauce is an extra $3, but do it. Just treat yourself. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The bit that should be crispy were crispy. The parts that should be juicy were juicy. I mean, it's rotisserie chicken, I'm not going to write a novel about it. 5.0/5.0 on the KennyScale! Our servers were lovely. The food was not great, overpriced, & there was a very limited selection of items. I kept trying things & being unsatisfied with the food. The drinks were watered down (due to the massive amount of ice cubes piled up in my glass). Finally, from the time that we walked into the restaurant, we were given attitude from the bartender (an Asian woman with long, false eye lashes & straight, dark hair) for no apparent reason. When we first arrived, there were very few other patrons there & she still would constantly avoid eye contact. It took so long to get her attention every time I wanted to make an order & her gaze & demeanor was always dripping with attitude. I hate to write this as I am such a huge fan of Hart's going back years, but I was really not super impressed by the food at this sister place. The restaurant has a great vibe overall and a fab natural wine list, and I know they are trying to kind of downplay the food in some ways, but I had read lots of press about how great the food is and I was just not feeling it like at all. It feels like it's one of those concepts that built around not really needing much of a kitchen staff because not much is really cooked to order, they just throw a bunch of chickens on a rotisserie and them serve them when people are ordering them. The best thing I can say about the chx is they it's clear they are buying really good birds, and that does come across, but the preparation I don't think rises to the level of many other places you've probably bought rotisserie chickens. For example Lula Bird comes to mind as being much better, granted it is a very quotidian delivery place. The much lauded roast potatoes, same thing, I just thought, I could easily make these a whole bunch better at home. Our server steered us toward a wing special that was just super not impressive at all and we were like, did they try this before selling it? I think this is a factor related to the food being all prepped well beforehand. Nothing was crisp or hot. It was all kinda meh, and for the prices, that's not cool. Everything is extremely over salted, from the chicken to the sides and even the daily vegetables. The bar tenders and the drinks were the highlights for our table of 4 tucked in a booth which is why 3 stars and not 2. Not only did we have a rotating cast of grumpy characters in service ...we don't actually know what happened to the person who took our order, because they were never to be seen again. Looks like the Yelp reviews on this place are mixed, and after reading the reviews I can kind of see why. Kind of interesting when you read the 1-2 star reviews, and then read the 4-5 star reviews, and can see exactly what they are saying. Overall I had an above average experience here. Nice wine and cocktail selection, and I felt the prices for the alcohol were reasonable. I had a glass of beaujolais which I quite enjoyed, and my partner ordered a cocktail. Good thing about the food menu is that there isn't much to choose from - pretty much just chicken. We got a whole chicken and potatoes and beans on the side. My dining companion really liked the chicken. I did too - but for $32 for a whole bird, I was expecting some life changing roast chicken. Don't get me wrong it was tasty and moist, but I'd be lying if I haven't had comparable for a fraction of the cost when I catch Costco or Whole Foods on a good day haha. The potatoes were a nice complement, but nothing out of this world. However, my favorite was definitely the green beans - packed with flavor and spice, and was the most unique dish (definitely getting this side the next time I'm here). All in all, an enjoyable time and would definitely come by again for wine and drinks - and nice to know if I got hungry there's some quality chicken to be had. Last night I tried it for the first time and I was amazed... by the menu I thought I kept reading the drinks menu but there was also a food section in it... with only 3 items . I was interested in this spot because it was reviewed in infatuation, and when I went to the website I saw that Harts was also associated with them. So I thought it would be a good place to go have dinner and share a good meal. We sat outside, got our food got in relatively quickly. What a disappointing food experience. Imagine me on the quest for a delicious crispy chicken, I was met with an overly juicy bird (which is normally fine), the seasoning was overpowering, the taste of smoked paprika was overly prominent. Maybe it was one of those things where it was an off day, but did not enjoy it. I guess it's mainly because I was expecting a crispy skinned chicken and it was not that. My sister and my husband had the chicken sandwich, it was alright. The only thing that helped was their aioli sauce that came in and saved the day with a flavor bomb. Yes, we may frown on sloppy services or not-so-great beverage options, but ultimately it has to be the food that matters. And in terms of food, while we give extra points to aesthetic elements in the form of beautiful plating, ultimately the taste is what matters to us. Well, what if a restaurant's lighting is so bad that it overshadows a diner's very impression of the food itself? When Jun and I arrived at The Fly, the dining space was so dark that we thought we were on a date at a club rather than a restaurant. We've had really good experiences at the sister restaurants Hart's and Cervo's, and one thing that both restaurants did well was to keep the dining space in a warm and inviting atmosphere, so the use of barely any lighting puzzled us greatly. While Jun, who takes way better photos of the dishes we share together, tried desperately to capture the food we ordered at The Fly using all kinds of tricks, she ultimately didn't succeed and we ended up having very unappetizing photos. I am quite certain that the lighting that hardly allows us to see us the dishes while eating them contributed to our underwhelming experience. While the roast chicken (available at half and whole portion; we chose the half portion) was generally moist and had nice balance of flavor, it didn't feel like the best chicken in the city. We paid an extra buck to add white sauce, but shockingly the sauce didn't add much to the chicken. The dim lighting probably affected our impression of the chicken sandwich as well. It was overall a solid sandwich, but as we were struggling with our fingers to get a hold of the sandwich I split in half, we both had to wonder whether it was that great a sandwich for us to make the trek all the way to downtown Brooklyn. For the sides, the fries were so-so but the greens were quite delicious; Jun even went as far to declare that the greens was the best dish she'd had at The Fly! The Fly, which is open only for dinner hours, doesn't accept reservations and it did fill quickly during the course of our meal so if you want to avoid long waits, show up early. There is a concise list of natural wines, cocktails and beers to complement your meal, no particularly enticing beverage (perhaps because of our mutual dislike of natural wine varieties). The restaurant had a mix of single diners gathering for casual dinners and families with young children who live nearby in Brooklyn. The Fly is by no means a bad restaurant but it was one place where the lighting completely undermined our dining experience. These other reviewers are coo-coo... We eat roast chicken once, maybe twice every single week. This version is pretty much as good as it gets. I do understand some of the comments- this is a pricey bird for a Bed-Stuy neighborhood undergoing gentrification. But take the same meal and put it in Manhattan and you'd pay twice as much. We had the whole bird, potatoes, long greens, fries, a couple of cocktails and still got out paying less than $100. And we actually really liked the ambiance of the place- it was bright and open and downright happening when we went. Service was also pretty decent. Neighborhood aside - I'd say go and go often... I will admit I was counting down the days until The Fly opened, knowing the team behind Hart's and Cervo's would be running the place. I managed to squeeze myself into an open seat near the bar on opening night, and had two great classes of wine along with the chicken sandwich. I've come twice since then, and have ordered the chicken sandwich both times. The meat is tender and juicy, and paired with an order of fries it makes the perfect meal. The Fly is always buzzing (oof pun), which I think is both in part of excitement for the still new spot as well as a testament to the excellent food and drinks that they serve. The crowd has always been diverse when I've went, including parents and 20/30 somethings. I love the idea of a simple, paired down menu--do one thing and do it really well. The wine list (all natural wines) is also simple and easy to navigate, and during my last two visits my server answered my questions about different wines. I also love what the team has done to the space--it has a warm, honey glow that makes everything look good, and works well for after works drinks, friend meet ups, or dates. I've only sat at the bar/front area, but there is plenty of seating for those who need to bring 4-6 people with them when they eat. I'm excited to see how The Fly evolves past the opening months and becomes another great staple in the neighborhood--looking forward to more chicken sandwiches and wine. read more
