    a pint of beer
    Alex S.

The owner was extremely rude the entire time we were there for a small birthday dinner. I can't tell if she thinks she's being sassy or something but this was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Every question she had was snarky for some reason. It felt as if we were inconveniencing her with our business. At one point my group ordered a round of Guinness and one person wanted an IPA and the owner scoffed and told her to order a Guinness instead to "stop being difficult". At that point I wanted to get up and leave. I have no idea how this woman is still in business. It's as if she doesn't know what good customer service is. We ordered a variety of items and everything was bad, which didn't even matter at that point since no one wanted to be there any longer than we had to. I'd never go back and never recommend this place to anyone. Photo posted as proof I was there. The owner shouts down reviews as being fake if they aren't positive. What a great business owner. Be better.

Cozy Irish bar in Salem's downtown. The Black and Tan as well as the Black and Gold were awesome. And we enjoyed the Shepherds Pie.

Delicious food and great atmosphere! This has become a Salem favorite of ours. It truly feels European and so authentic. They have the best wings in town and every dish is filled with flavor. (I love the O'Sullivan Mash) Nothing bland here! If you really want a treat, get the whiskey cake for dessert. Sinful! The owners are so down-to-earth and they have us laughing every time. Great whiskey and beer too!

This review is long over due: Tena (not Tina) and her amazing staff allowed me to host a perfect gathering to celebrate the life of my Irish grandmother there a few months back. The evening was absolutely perfect. I knew from the photos that the atmostphere of the building itself would be great but what I didn't expect was the kindness, generosity, love and lest I forget DELICIOUS tasting food that they provided for my guests. The owner, Tena, and her entire staff went above and beyond to provide the perfect evening to celebrate our beloved grandmother's life. Tena even went so far as to invite a classic Irish folk musician (who happens to be a professor at OSU in Corvallis) to drive in and perform music to set a warm and wonderful gentle ambiance to create the healing atmosphere we so needed. This is a true Salem gem that I am so grateful we discovered and look foward to coming back.

We really enjoy our food. Ambiance 5 stars Service. 5 stars Food quality 4.5 stars Food quantity 4.5 stars Menu choices 3.0 stars There is an elevator to this restaurant. It's a bit hard to find and a bit confusing. The owner opened up a second 1/2 to the place so there is plenty of room. They have beer and wine only. Offering a sampling of Irish food. Well chosen from the owners family recipes. My only complaint is that she is not willing to alter nor make the beer combinations that a customer might want. I like my snakebite with more hard cider. Nope. I also wanted to try the local chocolate porter with the hard cider. Nope. They don't and won't. That's too bad. I've been a business advisor for several restaurants and tell them to always sell products that they have as normal stock to increase customer satisfaction. Not here. This is part of the reason for only 3 stars. Also they do have a very limited menu. I would definitely go back. Cheers

I ordered our first ever Sisters Irish Bistro via Uber Eats. I tried the grilled cheese and the lunch size shepherd's pie. The grilled cheese was good. Loved the cheese that was used. But I would have preferred it on sourdough. But I still enjoyed it. I also ordered the shepherd's pie as this is my favorite food. I am always cautious about whether or not it is truly traditional Shepherd's pie. Sisters differentiates the different pies on their menu. There is the traditional lamb Shepherd's pie. There is the Cottage pie made with chicken. There is also a version of Shepherd's pie for lunch done in beef. It was not runny as some are. It was packed with meat, veggies and topped with fresh mashed potatoes and cheese. So yummy! I can't wait to go back here in person! And for the record, these are each large enough for a meal themselves... but I wanted to sample. So I will have leftovers of both tomorrow!

After a long day on the road my sister and I were excited to find convincing and positive reviews regarding this restaurant. When we got there; we were questioning if the place was open due to lack of customers inside. We walked in and asked the owner if they were open and she seemed annoyed by our presence and responded in a snarky manner "I don't know if we are open because it's so slow tonight." I asked if we should leave then and she (almost rolling her eyeballs) told us to sit down. I ordered the Mac and cheese balls, the shepherds pie and my sister ordered the Guinness battered chicken strips. The Mac and cheese balls tasted like they were from the frozen section. The pie was very bland, there was little to no seasoning and the mashed potatoes tasted like the premade ones out of the bag. My sisters strips did not taste like they were made with Guinness batter at all and the fries were tasteless. Overall the food and most of all the service was not what I had expected after reading the reviews on yelp. I would have wished for salt and pepper, however the owner never came over to our table after she gave us our food. She didn't care to ask if we needed anything or if we liked our food. I am usually very forgiving if the food is bad and the customer service is good. In this case, none of those criteria's scored high. It is very unfortunate and disappointing to me because this was my first time in an Irish restaurant and I had high hopes. The reviews on yelp are definitely misleading. Hope my review lets people know not to make the same mistake I made.

Take a fantastic little joint and tuck it into an amazing and cute little space, spice it up with great Irish beer and traditional music. People may not think of traditional Irish food as "gourmet" but they probably haven't been to Sisters Irish Bistro. This place really delivers the true taste of Ireland. First off, the decor is amazing. It's a rock and brick wall, wood wonderland. It's nestled in the downstairs of the reed opera house building and you can smell the amazing food from the stairs. I had a black smith which is half Guinness and half smithwicks and 100% awesome. My dad went with smithwicks. The house made soda bread and Irish butter was to die for. The hot bread was, bar none, the best soda bread I have ever eaten. Better than anywhere I went in Ireland. The music was great and a mixture of contemporary and classic Irish tunes. For dinner, my mom has chicken shepherds pie, I had lamb shepherds pie, and my dad had the bantry. It's a traditional recipe from the chefs nana and is to die for. Flavor explosion and genre changing for people who think Irish food is bland. A true gem and amazing place. Try this place out for drinks and dinner and you won't be disappointed!

Because of the time window we had before the show, I called early in the day to see about a reservation. I was told that the restaurant only makes reservations for parties of four or more--okay, that's reasonable. We show up a little before 6 pm in hopes of securing a table. After waiting a few moments to be greeted at the host stand--two employees were having a conversation while we approached, the first question I was asked was "do you have a reservation?". I explained that I'd tried but was told they didn't do that for a party of just two--we were told "oh, that's not what we do". There were three tables near the window, and we were brought to the small, two-top in between two larger tables that could accommodate 3 or 4. I thought about asking for one of the others as it would afford us a bit more room, but decided to just hold my tongue. Again I thought, okay, it's reasonable--they may get other patrons to accommodate. (As it turned out, neither of the other tables got occupied in the whole time we were there.) Our server greeted us about 5 minutes later and brought water to the table and asked if we'd like to see a drink menu. He came back with one about 5 minutes later. I ordered black tea, and my wife ordered a mocktail. The tea came out with honey; before I could ask for milk and Splenda, our server took off. (My wife flagged him over a couple minutes later when he reappeared.) We ordered our meals--a bowl of chicken gnocchi soup and the flatbread platter for my wife. I ordered the butternut squash and goat cheese salad and asked to have chicken added. About 10 minutes later, our server brought my wife's soup--her intention was not to have it an appetizer, but --oh well. The rest of our food arrived via another staff member probably 15 minutes later--not an outlandish amount of time. However after spending a minute looking at my salad (which was very pretty) I realized the chicken breast I'd ordered wasn't included in the salad. Again, our waiter was not to be found so I went over to the host station and asked after it. I was told "sometime the kitchen makes it later"--which seemed a little odd but again, okay--maybe they were searing it and the timing didn't work. About 3 minutes later I was brought a small plate with around 4 oz of sliced chicken on it. It was lovely looking and clearly moist, although the meat was cold--clearly not meant to be hot. We were never offered more water at our table, nor was I offered a refill on the hot water for my $3.50 tea. We realized around 7 that we needed to leave and could not see our server so I again went to the host station and asked if I could just pay the bill. I was told that our server was on the phone with the restaurant manager and they could have him come over in a bit. I repeated my request to simply pay the bill (and not have to wait for our server to be free). Another server came over and accommodated me at a register begins the host station, which was appreciated. Despite relatively mediocre service I tipped a bit over 20 percent--I understand the importance of tips on restaurant staff--il even if I'd prefer that they didn't rely on them for a fair compensation. The quality of our food was decent--but it's unlikely we will be back in the near future together. I know it's a popular meeting place and I may return to socialize with work colleagues--but we will find other places for our next dates.
