Micah wants a copy of the video before he decides, but he won't get it. I'm preparing to have him served, and he can see the video in court. Four months have passed since I reviewed Sit Means Sit, and I am happier than ever! Mina is doing so great with her training! She is a better dog with every week that passes. She is so much more calm and relaxed than she has ever been. People are constantly giving her (and me) compliments on her good behavior, too. As part of our training in the park, she has discovered the joys of rolling in the grass, which she never did before. It's her favorite thing now!! She has also become much more cuddly and affectionate. I absolutely enjoy taking her to the training (we usually go twice a week -- and if I didn't have to work, I'd probably take her every day!) The atmosphere of the class is great, and I really enjoy interacting with the other dogs and dog parents. There are all levels (from total hot mess newbies to military-precision trained dogs) in the class, and people are very welcoming and helpful. It's a great "safe space" (as opposed to dog parks) for your doggie to learn to socialize and meet people and other dogs in a polite and friendly way. I cannot say enough good things about this place. No dog is too bad or too good to benefit from this training.... and honestly, a lot of the training is about training YOU, rather than the dog. But it's a great way to bond with your pooch and build the trust and respect in your relationship. My only regret is that I didn't try this years ago with her! After my poor, 4m old Alaskan Klee Kai got attacked by a mean and aggressive chihuahua back in 2009, she was not the same, sweet and well-tempered doggie. She would display aggression toward unfamiliar dogs that came near her and myself and would guard my fiance and me. I was in desperate need for help and asked some fellow dog owners on places to have her trained. We scheduled a consultation with one of their trainers at the facility and he said he was concerned that my dog was displaying a bit of dog jealously when she saw me giving attention to another dog. He also explained that their e-collar was NOT a shock collar but was a training device to grab the dog's attention and wouldn't place the collar past 3 out of 10. I was initially impressed by their techniques as it appeared to work on my dog. However, I call BULLSH*T because at one point during one of the trainings the trainer had REPEATEDLY put the collar up to 8 to get my dog's attention. Even though I had experienced, first hand, how the e collar felt, I thought a 3 out of 10, which the trainer said had said SMS would never go above, would be an acceptable threshold for my dog. 8 out of 10 on that collar is just straight up cruel and uncomfortable. FEEL an 8 out of 10 on YOUR OWN NECK/HAND etc.; it's a crappy feeling. I felt that I didn't get much out of the 3 trainings that cost close to some ridiculous price over 500 bucks....we were not taught anything outside of the "place" command and I didn't feel that we learned how to use the e-collar as effectively to grab her attention. As a result, my dog seemed to experience more anxiety and it didn't fix her aggressive behavior but probably exacerbated it. Trust me, I followed everything the trainers told us to do but unfortunately this left my dog with an unimpressive improvement in her behavior and my fiance and I broke. I don't see what I did wrong except to decide to go with SMS rather than doing my research on dog trainers in the Valley. While I'm sure this technique would work for other dogs with specific temperaments, this technique was a total fail on my dog. So, before you resort to SMS, please do some research! read more

Their method is to use a shock collar. My dog is a rescue and is still building his confidence. After the 20 minute demonstration he was a bit traumatized. He was not present and hid in his box for the rest of the evening. Maureen said the collar is to get his attention, but he wants to please me and gives me his full attention already. I believe what is needed is positive reinforcement and some good tactics. She wanted to show me her dogs and demonstrate how obedient they were. They were extremely obedient, but seamed to me to be cowering. I believe you will definitely get results fast, but at what cost? She recommended a 2 week training and boarding program for $3,000, and got very defensive when I questioned the price. I believe this method should only be used for extreme cases and there are much better methods. read more

I used this service many years ago was very expensive but helped me with my dog so I was satisfied. Now years later I have a new dog and wanted to use there services again and saw the bad reviews mentioning lack of communication and thought was odd till I sent email with no response following day another email no response following day call and was informed I must go to the location that is in my side of town even though there are more than one in Las Vegas. Very disappointing after coming to terms with having to spend so much money Just to have all my inquiries unanswered or acknowledged. Hoping to find another company that can help me. Working with Bobby has been an absolute joy thus far! I signed Bauer up, my 8mth old black lab/border collie mix because I was having serious issues with separation anxiety, food scavenging, not listening to me when called, etc. My friend recommended SMS to me as a number of Dock Dog members and Las Vegas Lab Rescue people have used them before with fantastic results. Bobby came over for our free consultation and explained the program, and offered 2 different options to us. Both training options require you to purchase the training collar. It is a shock collar, but in reality, it's more of a device designed to get your dog's attention, kind of like tapping you on the shoulder to get a human's attention. I physically felt the impulse the collar generated when the remote button is pushed to grab the attention and it's not harmful or strong at all on the settings they recommend. After only one training session of teaching Bauer "Come" and "Sit", he is a much more attentive dog and calmer. My neighbors have even noticed the difference on our walks, he's not a wild man jumping, pulling me when he sees other dogs or people calling him anymore. The biggest thing w/ doing this training and I think it's a popular misconception amongst those unhappy w/ the program, YOU have to work w/ your dog as well. SMS Training is not designed for a trainer to come in and train YOUR dog for you while you go out grocery shopping, or sit on the couch and watch. The program is designed to help your dog understand what you want it to do. It teaches YOU to be in command of your dog, so having a trainer come over and do the sessions and then not work on what you and your dog learned after he/she leaves, is not going to work. It's pointless to even sign up if this is what you envision. We just had our second session this past Monday, and worked on the "Place" command. Bauer "got it" in 2 tries. All the things that we're learning with SMS helps with all the problems we have had in the past. When he wants to run or pull on the leash, I use the Place or Sit command to calm him down. If he's barking or nervous when someone is running by, or kids are screaming (which normally freaked him out before), I use the Sit command to get him to relax. All of the methods they use tie into things you can use to prevent bad habits. Even though you may want to discourage a bad habit immediately, what you're learning early on will help achieve that in the future. It's not an immediate stop to counter surfing, or jumping on people which your dog may have issues with. The program itself, the two options they offer, include lifetime group sessions at local parks around the valley. I am excited for the group sessions when we're ready for them, and Bobby will let us know when we are. If we're not, he said he will come back for another lesson to ensure we're ready at no cost. They stand behind their product. At no point has Bobby been aggressive or physical with my dog which is what I was worried about. I didn't want Bauer to lose his personality either just because he may think he has to be ready for commands all day long. Bauer has kept his puppy playfulness when he knows it's ok to be playful. I didn't want him to be a demo dog, as I feel he's like my child. Thank you SMS for all you've done and to Bobby personally for understanding my fears and concerns for Bauer. First, she wasn't nice on the phone, but I know phone impressions are not everything so I made an appointment for my dog's assessment. I called the day before to cancel because something came up. The next day, she showed up anyways which is fine, but I explained that I had to leave in ten minutes. She sighed and gave me such a dirty look. I explained that I called yesterday and left a message. She looked at her phone and saw that I called. Then, she asked if I wanted to reschedule. I stated, "not at this time." She walked away and said, "Yeah, whatever." I laughed because I was incredibly uncomfortable and still shocked at how I was treated. My boyfriend went outside to make sure she left and she told him that she was just giving her dogs some water and that he can go away. I don't understand how you can treat a potential client like that, especially when I was nice when explaining that I had to leave and I apologized for the inconvenience. I am shocked at how unprofessional she was and that people think it is okay to treat others that way. read more

My problem is that they have no reasonably priced alternatives to returning customers that already learned their technique but with a new dog. We were new dog owners when we adopted our dog, a miniature poodle, and decided to try Sit Means Sit with Don Slates for basic training. We chose this program because we believed that it would be an individualized approach to training our dog. Being a rescue animal, our dog suffered from chronic anxiety, but was exceptionally willing to please and very loving. As per Don's instruction, we began a crate training regimen as well as teaching basic commands via the shock collar. At first we were hesitant about using the collar, but Don assured us it was to maintain the dogs attention. After two months, our dog's anxiety worsened to the point that he licked his nose bloody and raw. He was now afraid of the crate and would hide away from the collar. Don's response was to just continue with the shocks, increasing their level at any sign of disobedience, and that our dog would eventually stop. To our disbelief, Don showed up to our second training session with a bandaged arm which he said was caused by an unruly dog in his group class. This greatly undermined our belief that group sessions would be a safe learning environment for a dog as small as ours. Already concerned, we took our dog to the vet for treatment to prevent infection from his nose as well as address damage to his paws and teeth from the crate training sessions when we discussed the validity of using such methods on a dog with chronic issues. The vet unequivocally said no and said that we were worsening our dogs condition by using such methods. I deeply regret that it took this professional opinion to finally see the physical and emotional damage our dog was experiencing because of Sit Means Sit. In no way do we believe that Sit Means Sit purposefully created a program that would hurt our dog rather than help him. However, we feel morally obligated to say that this program is not for every dog despite what we were told by Don. We do not believe that the sessions were individualized for dogs with any issues beyond basic disobedience. We strongly urge other dogs owners, those who deal with chronic anxiety or not, to be especially critical of this program before you sign on. It is incredibly disconcerting that, once you find out that Sit Means Sit is not a match for your pet, you will not get a refund of even classes you did not schedule nor attend. While Don was communicative throughout this process, it did not change the fact that this training was not right for our dog. After pricey vet bills and new, positive reinforcement centered training, our dog is finally recovering. He is doing unbelievably better with training from our local Petsmart for $120 than he ever did with Sit Means Sit. Most of all, he is no longer cowering and afraid of training, but enjoys it. Someone from this company noticed that my dog was pulling the heck out of arm, when I was taking her to the dog park at Sunset Park and gave me info on this service. I inquired about it- the cost was $700 for lifetime lessons and $250 for the shock collar (it sounds mean, but some dogs need this and my dog needed it; remember, she was a bit like Marley). I'm sure the prices have gone up since then, this was about 6.5 years ago. I also had to get a retractable leash at Petsmart for about $24 (different prices for different size dogs). My first visit was observing the class in action, which impressed me, BTW- at the time, classes were held at about ten different parks all over Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson. Now, I think that you have to go to the facility (the option to get back into the classes is still there for me and my dog). Anyway, you weren't limited to the amount of classes or to the locations (it was wide open)- that was a big plus, for me. I took her regularly every week, for the first couple years- you got to know the dogs and which ones were still aggressive (even with training, like the mastiff and the sharpei). The distractions at Sunset Park were a little challenging (the birds- she almost jumped in the lake, and she hates water!). And my dog was always the food-motivated one in the group- yeah, it was embarrassing, and funny at the same time. The shock collar worked really well, until it broke, so we stopped going. But I really did believe in the training with this company- some commands stuck, some didn't. read more

Adam is a good trainer...he even shows up too early to our home :) This is a great investment, you will not regret it. First off- dog behavioral problems can not be fixed in 5 or less sessions. Secondly, I have to say that some of the one star reviewers must not have done their part of the training commitment or only attended a few sessions because there is NO WAY you can give this place a 1 star if you commit to training your dog and follow through. It's been almost 6 months since my female pittie boarded for 2 weeks with Rachel and Dan. Since then I have been attending their on-site, in park classes in Summerlin as well as their classes at the corporate office. Rachel, Dan(who my dog adores) and the entire Sit Means Sit staff have been nothing but educating, supportive and knowledgable while my pittie and I both learned to change our habits. In the past, my dog was unable to be in the same room as a strange dog and now she sits there with her full attention on me, completely ok with the other dogs. They have done a great job at catering the activities in classes to my pittbull and the other dog's specific problem and creating situations which help them work through these problems. In the process, if your dog is the most problematic in class she/he will not be treated like a pariah. The Sit Means Sit staff and clients are very tolerant and understanding when it comes to problem behavior. New dogs come in weekly and with work improve and change so drastically that everyone knows its only a matter of time before that problem dog is changed too. For this reason, the corporate and on location group classes give you plenty of opportunities for your dog to work on whatever issues it may have. It also can be useful as just plain teaching your dog some off leash commands. The collar is definitely not a shock collar and has been a vital tool in teaching my dog to pay attention. The trainers will work with you and help you tailor your training to what works for you. I wish I would have done this when I first adopted my pittie. When you sign up don't expect an instant miracle. If you have major issues such as aggression it will take work and persistence in class as well as out of class. It's been a learning experience for me and I'm preparing my dog to take the Good Canine Citizen test. Whatever your goals the trainers are here to assist you. I purchased direct from sit means sit because it was recommend by one of their trainers, and according to there direction and specifications. My private lessons are starting next week and i need the muzzle for my first lesson. I could have ordered the same thing from Amazon and would have had it by now. I was APALLED at the unprofessionalism, agressive behavior and snide remarks of the Sit Means Sit rep. that was at Red Ridge Park on May 12 at 8 a.m. (I believe this to be Maureen, an older lady with two dogs - a large white and medium brown dog, who drove a brown Buick SUV.) My family arrived at the park earlier this morning to teach our 5-year-old son how to ride his bike. (We stayed in the same area the entire time.) The park, which is NOT a dog park or a County approved off-leash park, brought her dogs and her training dogs (and owners) to the small area of the park we were and let her and her owner's dogs run around unleashed. Seeing as how my son is frightened by dogs, we asked one of the owner's to leash his VERY LARGE dog (great dane size, but mixed breed) that was running around my son and through us all at the halfcourt basketball area we were using to teach him to ride while he or the dog was in our area since we don't know the dog (i.e. dog's history). This request wasn't even directed to the dog training rep. Just after we asked the owner to leash his dog, to which he kindly said he would do so, she started publicly and loudly landbasting our family while she was with her clients and dogs. ("We were here first!!!" and "You should mind your own business!" and "There's plenty us park for YOU to go to!")) I couldn't believe it! Not only was she illegally operating a business at the park (at the added liability and expense of her own clients), but didn't even once take into consideration the public's safety AND had the audacity to start shouting remarks (in front of my kid) resulting in an exchange of us shouting back that she had the WHOLE entire park she could go to and we only asked that the dogs were leashed around our son if she wants to deliberately host her business training session right next to us. I was very impressed with the training my dog received. I was initially reluctant because of the price but after attending a training session I can honestly say it's worth every penny. Mark was the trainer who trained our dog and I felt like he worked miracles. Just the simple things such as "place", "come", and "free" had me amazed at how fast she learned from Mark in just 20 minutes. It goes to show how well trained their trainers are and that they are truly professionals in their field. What I really liked was that Mark insisted on training me how to do these things with my dog while he was there so I could also be trained, lol. Might sound funny but it's true because as I was training her he was giving me tips to keep her being obedient to my commands. This was really helpful because if I did it after the fact without Mark, I would of been clueless on what to do while trying to remember from memory what Mark did. I think that would of just lead to frustration and thinking Mark is the only one that can do that with my dog. With this training my dog learned and so did I! Another funny thing is the dog learned faster than I did, kind of embarrassing but true at the same time. If you are debating on "Sit Means Sit," do it and you'll be pleased at what your dog can do after the training. But just keep in mind you'll need to be trained too. read more

We held an interview process to hire a dog trainer back in 2007 for our small dog (Maltese/Bichon). She wouldn't let us put a leash on her and she wouldn't biting us. Those puppy teeth can be really sharp. This is how it went: Monday: A trainer came to our apartment almost an hour late. He didn't call, but showed up saying he was stuck in traffic. He drove an old two door Oldsmobile with the bumper almost hanging touching the ground. We wanted a full time dog trainer that brings his own animals for a demo, not a part timer who thinks he can train dogs because he has done it few times before. When he came to our apartment and met our dog, he started talking about his prices. Talking about $ before assessing what he can offer really turned me off. He said he could train the dog, but it would take few months for the dog to walk on a leash and make her stop biting. It was our first interview with a trainer so he was our baseline. Before leaving our place, he asked to use the restroom. How can we say no? He was in there for almost 15 minutes taking a dump. You shouldn't take a dump at your potential client's house on the first visit. Tuesday: We went to our local Petsmart and looked at their training services. They had some tier system where we had to pay each time if we wanted to move to another level. There were a lot of levels. The price was reasonable but when you add up all the levels it can get quite expensive. Wednesday: A guy came to our house with his dog. This guy talked so much I thought our appointment would be for almost 2 hours. He was very personable and had a likable characteristics about him. He looked at our little monster with sharp teeth and played with her for awhile. He then asked us to come out to give a demonstration with his dog. The demo took 5 minutes or maybe less. His dog jumped out of his RV, went straight to the fire hydrant and sat on it. The trainer then asked the dog (German Shepard) to come to him, and sat him at another hydrant. I thought he was going to make the dog sit on someones car. This dog jumped and flew around the parking lot in front of our apartment at the trainer's commands. This is the cool part, he didn't have a leash on the dog nor did he even speak very loudly to get the dog's attention, but the dog watched him at every moment. Few hand gestures and the dog understood him. At the end of the demonstration, he told the dog to head back to the RV and the dog jumped right in. I was impressed. I don't really get impressed easily. We went back in the apartment to finish the interview process. Initially, I thought the price was high, but I left my wife to decide what she wanted. We told him we would think about it overnight, but in less than 24 hours, we called and signed up. The best money we spent on our pets. Our dog is really trained. We have her off leash and she heels us wherever we go. We have taken our dog everywhere. I enjoy watching other dogs take their owners for a walk. Sit Means Sit has other locations in the US, but I think the Vegas is the headquarter. We get compliments due to our well behaved dog. Thanks Sit Means Sit. Sorry I didn't write sooner. read more
