Fantastic food and you can get spicing to your taste. I've never been disappointed after eating their food for years.

The food is good, and I've spent upward of $300 with this establishment and I've had no complaints, up until last night... I went to pick up my usual order of Chicken Biriyani and Onion naan but had my sisters were with me so I decided to call the order in so we wouldn't have to wait as long. One of my sisters wanted the Ghorkali Chicken and she wanted to know what it came with. When I asked the man over the phone, he said all the entrees come with rice and that the Gherkoli chicken would as well. After receiving our food, we arrived back at my sisters' home to find that there was only chicken for her meal. I immediately called Sitar Restaurant and explained that we were missing half of her order and they told me they would replace it with no problem, just to remind them of the name on the order so they can know it's our order before pickup. We went back today to retrieve that meal only to be overtalked and accused of lying. I first called before we arrived to let them know we were coming to get the meal while we were out today. The man on the phone today said "yeah, I asked the guy from last night and he said you never asked about rice". Why should I have to ask if it comes with the meal? And yes, I did ask. When we got to the restaurant, it was the same man from last night pretending as if he were someone else. Long story short, he never even listened as we tried to explain the error. He laughed in our faces, told us we were making it up, and that he WOULD NOT replace the meal as he said he would. It was a horrible experience. I spend A LOT of money at this place and usually bring people so they can try Indian Food for themselves. I've hyped this place up to my sisters only to be disrespected and disregarded after spending $69 on our order last night with the intention of purchasing more food today (since my sisters order was supposed to be free). Very upsetting, uncalled for and genuinely not expected as we were polite the entire time. Even after driving 30 mins out, AGAIN, to this restaurant to pick up an order that THEY messed up. Good food, terrible service. Very disappointed. Won't be back. read more

Great place for lunch if your looking for something new and quick. Their buffet offers just that! Many authentic options to choose from. Even if you've never tried Indian cuisine before their choices aren't overwhelming. They're easy to identify. My favorite are the creamed spinach and the chick pea salad. Sitar is one of my favorite Indian food joints. I really like the open buffet they have served in the past. They have always given plenty of options on what to eat. The service is rather quick as well, however they do have unique times that they are opened due to them closing briefly during mid day to separate lunch and dinner time. They also make very good Mango Lassis (yogurt based mango drink/smoothie.) I have not been disappointed with their food either. They have some my favorite cooked Basmati around. They are a little pricey however. read more

Had the Karahi Shrimp again with extra vegetables and ordered it Medium to avoid a repeat of my first review lol. It was delicious and they give you enough to eat from it twice in my opinion. Next time I'll order it dine in and then pack it to-go so I can have all the juices and veggies that would come with it and not what would fit in the small container. Came here to hit up the lunch buffet. Fair priced, and decent selection of food at the bar. Pretty good food, nothing too remarkable. If you ever crave indian food and want quantity, the buffet is the way to go. It's not the best in town, but it'll hit the spot. I came out very full and satisfied. This was delicious! The place is a small, cozy place that is right off the parking garage o it's ticked away. I got the Desi Chicken- Indian Hot with Naan and it was so with it. Perfectly spiced and enough to make my lips tingle. Will be back on my next visit to Birmingham. read more

Vegetable Vindaloo + garlic naan. The vindaloo was nicely spiced and tasty, served with plain basmati rice. I would have liked some aromatics in the rice, such as jeera style, but plain basmati was ok. The naan had a nice balance of oily garlickiness, and crisp. My friend and I had dinner here before going to see Cake perform at WorkPlay. I was worried, because in Tuscaloosa there is a horrible Indian restaurant with the same name... but I was very happy when Tuscaloosa was not mentioned in the locations on the menu. We both had a Kingfisher beer. Split an order of samosas. Shared the chicken saag and baingan bharta with an order of roti and garlic naan. The girl that took our order was so sweet and cute, I wanted to put her in my pocket. The roti was perfect. The chicken saag was nice and creamy and the eggplant was delicious with just the right amount of tang. The portions were plenty, and there was a lot left over. I was introduced to this restaurant by my co-residents . I went, but then said I'm not so sure about this food". Let's just say that by the time I left, I'd enjoyed the food so much, I almost had to be rolled out I was so full! Ok, here it goes : Very quiet evening, with only one other table around 6-7 pm. Very friendly staff. Good curry - Masala Chicken and Nan Bread-Good portion size. Not a great ambience in the restaurant. Inconsistent. I am in town for work and ordered food through Grubhub. It was delicious!! So I ordered again a night later, and it left a lot to be desired. The chicken tikka misala "hot" had no spice at all, it was sweet. This isn't the first time it's happened with grubhub, so I'm not sure if it's a technical issue with grubhub or the restaurant not honoring spice level. read more

Was taken here for lunch by a workmate after I asked about a good place for Indian food. I was skeptical because it was a buffet but was very pleasantly surprised. I have had Indian food many times before and always get a kick out of people that say they don't like Indian food because they don't like curry. That to me is like saying I don't like American food because I don't like Hamburgers. The food was very good, both veggies and meat dishes were fresh and tasty. My friend who took me here is from India and if he likes it it must be good right? My first time eating Indian food. The food was good and adequate portions. The manager was nice and professional.

This is one of my very favorite Indian restaurants. I go there frequently for lunch during work days. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I have mostly gotten the buffet, but they are quick to clear plates and refill drinks. The flavors are wonderful and the buffet is always full of food and fresh. I have never had to wait for a table, though there is always a large number of customers. My one and only complaint would be lack of variety. Perhaps it is because we typically go on the same day of the week, but I seldom see variety. I do enjoy what is there, but I would like to see more! read more

10.99 for lunch buffet (tax incl). I couldn't find the price before I came in or on Yelp so wanted to add that here. The sauces were pretty tasty but the variety was lacking. Any meat dishes were only with chicken, and the tandoori chicken was quite dry. I appreciated the vegetarian ones (spinach, vegetable korma, etc). The selections were not clearly labeled so it was hard to say what dishes were what and write about them. Overall, fills you up but a very average experience. read more

Been eating there for years. Ordered online and it said 30 minute prep time. After paying, it said it would be ready in the AM at 10 and that they were closed. I instant messaged from their website. No reply. Called them the next AM and 9, 9:30 and 10. When they answered at 10;they told me food was ready and I would have to pay. I asked him to speak with manager. He called me back and said they would refund. Just got the credit card bill and they refunded 6 of the 70 dollars I had paid. Will not be using Sitar again. read more

The perfect lunch spot. In the city check, all you can eat check, student discount check, and great service check! Have gone to sitar many times for lunch as that is when there buffet is. It is great for people who don't know what to order at Indian food restaurants or those who want to expand on what they already like. The hostess seats you quickly and your good to go get a plate of Indian goodness! My favorite part of Indian food is the curries and sauces they have their dishes in and this restaurant does not disappoint. Love dipping my naan in some curry sauce. Went here a few times before they moved. Since moving I feel like the restaurant is dirty. Its unfortunate because our meal was delicious we ordered the tikka masala (spicy) garlic naan. Won't be back cant risk getting sick and shouldn't feel uncomfortable eating a pricier meal. The tables were dirty, the plates our food came out on were sticky. The lunch buffet is wonderful! The buffet is not big, but there is a big variety on it. I thoroughly enjoy it every time I am there. (I have been to Sitar for lunch only.) I especially like the chicken tikka masala. Yum! While I give the food five stars, I can't give the restaurant five stars. Every time I go there, I have to flag down a member of the wait staff for a tea refill. This really has happened every time I have eaten there (close to ten times). This is the best Indian restaurant in Birmingham and all surrounding areas! So glad they reopened at new location. Very central to everything. Food is always delicious. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I can't speak on the buffet, as I've always done regular dine-in and take-out. I have to keep myself from ordering take-out multiple times a week. Love this place. I always go for the lunch buffet because I don't really know what to get. It's always so good with a wide variety! They always have the staples such as rice, naan, and tikka masala, plus new exciting things to try! The buffet price is super reasonable plus they offer student discount with ID.
