A bit littered with serving dishes, also in direct line of sushi chef serving up dishes over my left shoulder..hey, it about the food, so... Opening with hot miso soup, cold sake.. Both perfectly acceptable..nice to get cold sake in a carafe, like usually served with hot sake..nice change. The sushi; Spicy seafood roll, a combination of all those lovely fishes usually sold separately ( which they do in fact have, i.e. Spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, etc) this is a nice combo of them all. Good taste, obviously fresh. Sashimi - my usual go to's...mackerel, yellowtail, unagi, tobiko (got to love fish eggs served in cups made from cucumbers) and salmon, 3 to an order on all the above.. Nice portions, fresh.. Will be back, just enough variety to try some more, close to a hotel.. Simple pleasures on the road ! read more

Surprisingly not bad. This place just opened in the Tech Road strip mall, and we are always looking for new lunch places (Panera was getting old.) First, the place is tiny- maybe 8 tables and some seating at the sushi bar. But as soon as we walked in the door we greeted with a friendly smile and immediately given seats. We later found out our server was Siu herself, who was extremely friendly and helpful throughout the meal. The food was pretty good, as far as Asian food in northern Silver Spring goes. Decent portion sizes, well cooked meats that are not overly spicy, rice that has a little flavor (but the fried rice could use more). The egg roll was a disappointing- too hard and not very tasty. The prices are a little on the steep side- for some reason carry out is cheaper. But overall not bad. read more

I have high standards for General Tso's tofu and this restaurant really exceeded my expectations! We called in our order and it was ready 15 minutes later for pick up. Staff was pleasant. In addition to the tofu, we ordered vegetable lo mein and golden tofu which were perfectly fried pieces of tofu with a sweet-and-sour sauce on the side. It was all very fabulous and I'm looking forward to eating it for lunch again tomorrow. read more

This small restaurant and takeout opened in 2009. I just recently picked up take out from here. We ordered orange chicken, fried rice, and spring rolls, all staples in my family. All were quite tasty and traditional. When I went in to pick up the food, it was ready and we did not have to wait. There are a few small tables, and a sushi bar. My friend and I would go here for a private dinner, and order a feast of edamame, the items above, spicy tuna and salmon rolls, and maybe more. I've enjoyed my experiences at Siu's. The host and waitstaff are always friendly and will make recommendations for you if you ask. The food is never greasy (at least not in my experience), and it's reasonably priced. In particular, I recommend the egg rolls, the shrimp fried rice, the shrimp lo mein, and the bbq spare ribs. My boyfriend has had the teriyaki chicken and the General Tso's chicken, and he has really liked those. The teriyaki chicken is all white meat, which I appreciate since I don't like dark meat chicken. I've only gotten delivery once. It took about 45 minutes, but such is life. No that Asian Delight (my previous go-to Chinese place) is closed, I appreciate having another restaurant that will deliver. Siu's also has Japanese food, and I look forward to trying their sushi once I can eat raw fish again. read more

I was just getting over a cold and I needed some hot soup to soothe my throat. I was at work and I didn't know many restaurants around here, but I wanted something that wasn't far. I saw the help reviews and decided to give this place a try. I called in my order and the lady was very nice and told me ten minutes. They didn't have exactly what I wanted but I just wanted some hot soup so I ordered wonton soup, egg drop, and combination fried rice. I picked up my order and the restaurant was nice and clean but small. They were not that busy inside but I could tell they were more of a to go place and were busy cooking in the back. Wonton Soup- If you are excepting yummy shrimp wontons then you will be disappointed like I was. These wontons had thick doughy wrappers and very little meat. Inside was ground pork with barbeque sauce. I was not a fan of it but it could be because I was thinking it would be shrimp and there was no description saying otherwise. The broth was not bad and it soothe my throat. Egg Drop Soup- I really liked the egg drop soup. It was tasty and had lots of egg floating around. The best part was it wasn't full of food dye and looked like my moms when she makes it for me. It comes with the fried noodles and just hit the right spot for someone not feeling well. Combination Fried Rice- It was tasty and had shrimp, chicken, bbq pork, peas, etc. I thought it was a little greasy but that did not take away from the taste. I was looking for something to eat before I went to work. I realized that I went to every restaurant that is in the shopping center on Tech Road except for Siu's Asian Bistro. So, I gave it a try and sadly, it was a disappointing experience. I chose to do take out because I was limited in time before I had to go to work. There was a section on their menu called Siu's Recommendation, which had their top choices. I went with General Tso Chicken, crispy beef, and I also got one of the Siu's speciality rolls called the Goddess roll. There was nothing special about the General Tso Chicken, in fact, you can get something similar at any Chinese carry out for a much cheaper price. The Goddess roll seemed as if it was not fresh and was prepackaged due to it being very soggy. However, if you do find your way into this restaurant I would recommend their crispy beef. One of the better crispy beef that I have tasted. The worst part of the experience was them switching my orders with someone else's. Please, check inside your carry out bag to see if you got the correct food because if I didn't check my bag when I went to my car I would have lost about $20 dollars worth of food. I went back inside and told them the situation. The guy who gave it to me couldn't believe it at first but then soon realized that he made a big mistake. The owner approached me saying how sorry they are and that they would include a complimentary dish called rangoon for all the trouble. The employee who made the mistake went on to call the customer who had their order switched with me and explained the situation. What was supposed to be a quick means of getting food turned out to be a frustrating hour of getting food that was average at best. To be fair they did try to make up for their mistakes. However, it is hard to see me going to this restaurant again. read more

Everything I've ever ordered from this place is great. Heads and shoulders above typical take out fare. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is because of the set up; allthough there are tables it is a tight fit and take out patrons have to walk and congregate thru the tables to the take out counter. Excellent service and outstanding food. I had 3 people waiting on me while I dined. Each person was attentive and cordial. I sat at the sushi bar and had great conversation with both of the sushi chefs. I order a regular sushi medley ( chefs choice) and was happy that I was given a great selection of sushi (far from the standard). I also was given a nice seaweed salad to taste (no cost). Best sushi I've had in a long time. My husband I moved to just north of the city and were hunting for a new sushi spot. We really missed out favorite spot in PA since we've moved and have been disappointed with the quality of sushi in the DC area. The only relatively good places are way overpriced and just not worth it. The only decently priced places are crap. We pretty much gave up after a few months. I came on yelp, saw the reviews for Siu's, and decided to give it one more shot. I'm so glad I did. First, walking up, we were very nervous. It's a TINY place and looked like a chinese takeout-type place. It's a little cramped, but we still went in. I ordered the volcano roll, and it's now all I order. I have also tried: roll of the year and goddess roll. All of them are amazing, but especially the volcano roll. From the kitchen, the chicken satay is great as well. But we really stick to sushi. Service is great - everyone is very attentive. We like to get in and out fast, and our water glasses are always full. We are probably here once a week or so - it's gotten to the point where they just put in the order when they see us coming. All in all, I can overlook the small space for amazing sushi... read more

This is my neighborhood spot where we love ordering Chinese dishes and sushi. They have a bomb avocado salad that everyone needs to try! My go to is the goddess roll or spicy crunchy tuna, their fried rice is bomb and I really compliment them on their service, even during lunch time they are efficient and my order is always ready in a timely manner when I'm picking up carry out. They also deliver for free to my house when I'm Feeling a bit lazy. The food is always hot by the time it gets to my house, the deliver person is always super nice and I'm just happy that Siu's exists! I can't vouch for the entree dishes but I can assure you that the sushi is completely unacceptable here. The rice is soggy and the ingredients are not fresh. Avoid sushi here at all costs. My friend and I checked this place out for lunch on a Wednesday. I got the sushi spicy combo roll and he got the sushi "choose 2 rolls" option. My dish was delicious and decently sized but his left a little to be desired; the portions were small and he should have gone with the "choose 3 rolls" option. On our way out the door, we saw another table with the chinese-type food lunch combos that include rice and a fried eggroll, and those portions seemed great for the price. One thing to mention, we looked up their lunch menu and prices on their website prior to going and the prices were higher when we got there (which was annoying). I order delivery from this place 2 or 3 times a month ever since I moved to the area. They definitely have better Chinese food than anyone else in this area, but not the best I have ever had. They usually are more polite when dining in rather than over the phone but either way the food is great. Delivery time varies but most of the time I'm told an hour so I usually order ahead of time so by the time the food gets here it's when I planned to eat. Some of the food is priced understandably and some is just a tad over priced. I have had the "Caught in a bad Romance" Roll, very delicious $11 or so but it comes with 6 very large rolls California rolls are very standard as they are at most places. ( & only like $5) Combination Lo Mein and fried rice are full of flavor and not overly greasy like most places- regularly priced Sweet and sour chicken is a little too breaded but the general Tso's is much more tasty. As far as price, it's just as pricey as the next sushi place. $11.95 for 8 slices. An order doesn't fill me up, so I try not to go hungry when I go to these places. Really enjoy getting sushi here, it's pretty much my go-to sushi place when I'm at home. I've gotten everything from deluxe sushi/ sashimi platters to your standard salmon, tuna, and whitefish rolls. The fish is fresh and quite tasty. The space is small, but well decorated and well staffed. It can get pretty cramped around lunch time, but there's a reason why their customers keep coming back. On the sushi side of things, I can't get enough. My only disappointment was when I came here most recently with my mother who had the Teriyaki Chicken, and we were both unimpressed with the dish. It was ok, but it seemed like the chicken had been cooked and then spread with sauce, rather than being flavored or marinated as it was cooking. So I'm not sure about their other offerings, but I'm definitely a fan of their sushi. read more

The teriyaki chicken is very yummy, but inconsistent. The second time it was way more peppery than the first time. I was hoping for some authentic food since the demographic of the staff were of asian. But I ordered singapore noodle and they were just HORRIBLE! I manage to eat some of the noodle and veggies but I just could not bring myself to finish it even though I was STARVING! This is my go to sushi delivery spot. I love their food and there's always a friendly voice answering the phone when I call. I've tried quite a few of their rolls and I've never had a miss. My faves are the Yum Yum Roll, the Roll of the Year, and the Sweetheart Roll. I spend way too much money on myself and friends here.... but I don't regret a thing. The food is delicious, and the delivery guy always has me cracking up. I was honestly debating on writing a review for this establishment or just not bothering to do so at all. I was actually encouraged to write a review from customers who had witnessed the injustice that occurred from this facility. During my lunch break my coworker and I stopped by to this Bistro to try it out. We were not greeted when entered, we grabbed a menu that was at the table and determined what we would like to eat in which we ordered sushi, egg drop soup and dumpling soup. After placing our order with the server, Jocie, we sat down at the table and waited. When we sat down she said we were not allowed to sit down unless we were dining and we told her we were dining and she said no we are not and yelled from across the restaurant. She told us it would be an additional fee for us to dine in ( a dollar per item) and we stated that it was fine we were willing to pay $3, but yet this continued to be an issue. When we received our food we placed it on the table and she immediately screamed out "No you cannot dine here" and the other customers in the store were baffled and actually stood up for us and said that we told them we would dine in and were willing to pay. I was beyond shocked at the situation, we were obviously not wanted there and the man across stated we should write a review. We ended up going next door to eat our food at Five Guys. When we took our food out we noticed lettuce instead of seaweed in our sushi (which looked old and pre-packaged) and while I ate my egg drop soup I crunched on a couple of small pieces of shells. We then were furious and returned back and demanded to see a a manager in which we were told by Jocie and a young man that the manager was not there and that the employees did not have the contact information for their own manager (very odd). I then told them about the egg shells and showed pictures (this was the interesting part). So I was told by the employee that those weren't egg shells those were residue from the pot from when they make the soup although I was curious to know why there was residue from the pots if it were properly cleaned, I told the young man I crunched on shells and he had a shocked look to his face. The server prior before...Jocie, began to refund our money when mentioned the food and brought the situation back up with the seating..she began yelling and raising her voice, she continued to state she was not yelling and continued to yell as we told her we would be reporting this she encouraged us to do so. I informed them that I will be speaking to the manager and she began screaming more and eventually screamed until she cried and was taken into the back. I was apologized to by the young man for Jocie's behavior. When leaving the restaurant two men approached us and apologized about the entire thing after they seen us being treated differently and refused to be seated. I am still in shock about the whole thing and cannot understand why everyone else were greeted, had the choice of dining in or to-go, and possible had edible food. I am unsure why we were treated this way considering this is our first time ever in this establishment and the other people were treated better but I'm pretty sure there was a lot of singling out that was going on here. I was on the edge about posting a review but after everything that occurred there today I know that people deserve to be informed and aware so that things like this does not happen to them, and if it does I am sorry and you are not alone. read more

This place is pretty good, but I will confess that the food doesn't quite bowl me over. Something is...missing. For the location, though, it's hard to find a classier restaurant. I think there's a TGIFridays, a Five Guys, and some other places to get food nearby, but Siu's is actually nice, quiet, and is a cute place for a date. I've had lunch and dinner here, and both times it was pretty quiet, though when babies or kids are there, you can't escape them, due to the small size of the location.
