NOT SAFE. First and only experience with this park was on 10/4/25 and we were only in the area for a day. We arrived a couple of hours before closing time to people running out of the park entrance and police showing up in the parking lot. Staff said there was an incident and everyone was being forced to evacuate the park and nobody was allowed in. We tried asking if we could just speak to guest services since we were from Michigan and were only in the area for a day and wanted to activate our season passes which we bought for this park. We were told no. I asked if I could at least use the bathroom after our long trip. Staff rudely cut us off and yelled at us, just telling us to leave. We later found out there was a riot and someone pulled a weapon. Police were zooming through the parking lots in their patrol cars with spotlights on looking for someone. After speaking to a local, we found out this isn't uncommon for Discovery Kingdom. Vallejo did not seem safe and I would never recommend going to this park. We stayed in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco and this park seemed more ghetto than that. read more

It's giving ghetto. Like I remember loving this place as a kid and I wanted to relive my youth as an adult and but this was not quite what I remembered. The parking costs as much as the entry ticket so that's annoying. I arrived right when they opened so I could get an early start on the roller coasters before the lines and most of them were closed! So I was like...ok I guess I'll go look at the sad animals for awhile? I looked at some depressed lions then treated myself to an abhorrent, overpriced, meal of chicken tenders that were so salty and dry that I nearly choked. As I gasped for breath, and felt the moisture evaporate from lips after being contaminated by the dry leathery tender reminiscent of a Popeyes biscuit, I wondered why I deserved this. Disneyland is known for their cuisine and yet the Bay Area gets this? I made my way back towards the rides and saw some penguins drying out in the hot, Vallejo sun--weird but ok--then two guys tried to sell me a timeshare (DON'T fall for it!) The roller coasters were finally open at 2pm so by now the hoards of children arrived and the lines were miserable and long. While baking in the hot sun in line I could look around and take it all in. What's the theme of this place? There's some Looney Tunes that I guess they could still afford the rights to use their imagery since kids aren't watching them anymore, the sad animals (thus the name Discovery Kingdom) then some superheroes? Why, in the line for the Joker ride, are Looney Tune playing? Couldn't afford to throw on some Batman hm? It's like very much so clashing. Pick a theme please! I got on Kong and got banged around. The ride is so rough like it really knocked the Mario coins out of me and I lost a few brain cells in there and was perhaps concussed. I actually enjoyed the dolphin show although I had to pass back by the timeshare guys to get there. I'm not gonna lie, the dolphins did their thing. I hope you're treating those dolphin trainers right..because if they ever decide to turn on you...they've got those dolphins trained pretty damn good. Powerful creatures and the only ones there that still seem like they have some fight in them. Stay out of the splash zone unless you want to smell like turtle tank for the rest of day. All in all it was a weird day. I threw up when I got home and my homegirl caught COVID. The entire place is a money grab. Not only do they now have "flash passes" which means people pay to move in front of you in line, but they have the ride staff checking the receipts making everything move slower. Terrible experience and I have been coming here since I was a child. Unless you are going to shell out $150+ for a all day flash pass, don't bother coming here. Spent $700 for 2 season season pass with speedy parking, and I come to realize that I need to enter in a license plate for the parking passes. I was never prompted to do that when I bought the passes online. I tried calling the park to get help on doing that, and I got a machine saying they weren't open, but the site hours say they are. I tried using their chat technology, and it's just as useless as calling in. This is by far the worst SF I have ever been to. I've been a season pass holder for a gew years now and have been pretty pleased with my previous home park Great Adventure. The place actually looks pretty and it seems they keep the grounds clean, but they really need to find a way to keep the rides open. When we went, the only thrill rides that were available were Joker, Medusa, Superman, and Batman. They were all going in and out a lot and they were running only one train, making ops slow. We ended up waiting for like an hour even with flash pass, and ended up having to leave because the train was broken down. Even worse is that the flash pass line for Joker and Batman were poorly implemented with the staff not caring and packing in the people. The whole point of FP is to hold back the normal line so the FP actually gets you to the front of the line. Total waste of money. If SF wants to sell these passes, they need to make it actually functional and a premium experience. After scanning in at Joker, you still end up at a line with an awkward merge with nobody directing others to let you in, and you still have like 50 people ahead of you. This can lead to misunderstandings and potentially fights. The positives of this park, the drone july 4 show was pretty neat. I'm actually in the area for 3 days, and normally i would repeat going to Six Flags, but this was so bad that i would never come back or recommend to anyone else to go there. read more

Well it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be ! Youngest turning 8 and she doesn't remember going here as we stopped after Covid for some reason . Have heard it's gone downhill but wanted her to try it . She had a great time on all the kids rides and seeing the dolphin and sea lion shows ! Me and my boys went on all the big rides . That's where it gets a little ugly . Without the flash pass it's not worth going at all , but with them it's doable even though they kept closing and then opening some of the rides . Was just okay. Wasn't what it used to be. Some changes that were made sucked. Examples: no paper map anymore. Have to use your phone and only one time slot for dolphin show etc. Hard to plan your day with rides and shows without multiple time slots. The food wasn't that great either. After visits 2 & 3 I can't recommend you come here. They have 7 roller coaster 3 of which seem to be closed permanently. The Joker is a great coaster, but it has 1 train and dispatches every 5 to 7 minutes. Because there are soooo many closed rides the rides that are opened have incredibly long lines. 3 different times during my last visit rides broke down after waiting almost an hour. Got a Cesar salad and it was disgusting, the croutons were as soft as marshmallows and the dressing was gross. It was also the size of a small salad bowl you get from the Safeway produce department but for $18 and not fresh. I feel I've wasted my money on 3 diamond passes. We're going to Magic mountain later this year. Hopefully makes up for this Six Flags. And the app doesn't update ride times, we're currently waiting 30 + minutes for a ride with "zero" wait time read more

I went here for my San Fransisco Vacation recently on Monday, August 6th, 2024. I visited from from Los Angeles, CA and it was one hell of a drive. I woke up at 4 am to leave my home to arrive there around opening time, I made it early actually! The parking lot was a bit confusing but I made it through. I'd say a good 5-10 minute walk to the front gate, amazing views of the lake. Most animal exhibits were closed or something, only saw the feeding of an animal I forgot the name of. Sorry, y'all! PLEASE Keep in mind that Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has a new chaperone policy. "Guests ages 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old in order to be admitted to or remain in the park. The policy will be in effect daily by 4:00 p.m. local time Flags Discovery Kingdom reserves the right to begin enforcing the Chaperone Policy earlier on any given day." I did notice that Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has one train operation, wonder what happened. However, ride operators still manage to get the lines moving fast, especially at Superman: Ultimate Flight. The Joker took awhile, the operator told us that we needed to quickly sit down and buckle our seatbelts so that they could have faster operations, but they were talking to a worker about some issue for a good 2-3 minutes. Pacing us? Wow. DC Universe is amazing, long wait times for food but I used the mobile food ordering on the Six Flags app, and our food was ready ASAP! Amazing job Discovery Kingdom! The food came out hot, loved it! I don't think this park has lemonade so I was pretty disappointed but it's okay! If you're gonna ride Kong, be prepared. Kong is an extremely rough roller coaster and only has one train in operation. When I rode it, the first half of the drop was smooth. However, that was quickly ended as the train jolted into the first inversion. The train jolts every so often and the transitions are rough, banging your head into the over-the-shoulder restraints. Be aware at the end, the train completely stops abruptly and hard. I came out of the ride with my head hurting, shoulders in pain, leg pain, and with my ears hurting. This ride is not for the weak, and I'd compare it to Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain. I'll also compare the ending to Goliath's break checking at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Returned today after a couple of years not attending because of the pandemic. Saw a lot of upgrades and more under construction sites that made me happy. Only issue, that has been an issue for a few years, and kept hearing a lot through out the park is the lack of opened food stations. If you have the refill cups you have to wait in long food lines because drink stations are closed. And food lines tend to be longer because every other place is closed. I don't know if it's not hiring enough staff or if they're under construction as well, but if I'm paying a monthly fee or a food membership or pay $120 a year I want and expect all food options to be available. Plenty of shows and animals to see. Great variety of rides for all ages. read more

Worst place ever. On October 28, 2023, my husband and I came to SixFlags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA to celebrate my birthday and Halloween all at once. Last year we went to Great America and it was awesome! So this year we decided to give Six Flags a try since it is closer to our home. Almost immediately we faced some rudeness and unprofessionalism from a staff member. We got our parking spot ( for 40$ ) and the entrance bracelets. Then we went to get our Flash passes and that's when we met Patrick Vides ( one of the employees ). He told us that our Flash passes would not work today, because they were purchased for October 29, 2023, and today was October 28, 2023. We told him that we spoke to a SixFlags customer support team member on the phone weeks ago about this and they confirmed to us that all the tickets could be used today instead of the day we purchased them for. He replied that he DOES NOT work for SixFlags and that he works for the Accesso company. We were quite surprised because it didn't make any sense. We were inside SixFlags amusement park and here we were, talking to the guy, who claimed to have no business with SixFlags. He said that he had no idea, who gave us the information we had and that we had to repurchase the Flash tickets for today again. The problem is, that now they were 60$ more than the ones we originally had and he said he won't do the price adjustment for us. I also asked if there was anyone from SixFlags that I could speak to, and he said no, and continued to say that he does not work for SixFlags, he is not a SixFlags representative, and does not deal with SixFlags in any way. I was very upset since it was my birthday celebration. On that day we wasted our time having an unpleasant conversation with Patrick and had to purchase new tickets that were 60$ more. We did get the refund for our original tickets but I truly don't think that there was a good reason for us to pay 60$ more for the tickets we got that day in the park. If I knew that we would have to repurchase them, I would've done it earlier online and for a smaller price. But again, no one ever told me that I would have any kind of problems with the tickets I already had. So in the end, instead of paying 180$ for Flash passes, I had to pay 240$ and speak to an unfriendly, and unprofessional person. After that, we just decided to go on and enjoy our day at the park. It didn't happen... While we were at the Batman attraction it broke down, and we had to remain seated for 40 minutes while they were trying to let us out and figure out what was wrong with it. While we were in line with our flash pass waiting for Joker, that attraction also broke so we just wasted our time. The app does NOT update quickly and let you know that the attraction is closed now. We were just waiting for nothing. The same thing happened with Superwoman and one other attraction. So be aware that there is a possibility of you just standing in line without even knowing that the attraction is closed! Lines can be up to 2,5-3 hours long without Flash Passes, and even with them, it can be up to an hour. Not to mention that not all of the rides allow the use of flash passes. The flash passes themselves are digital so your phone has to be fully charged and preferably bring a portable battery with you. That app will drain your battery. I was super excited about the fright fest because of all the commercials I would see online. It was not even close in reality. Not scary at all. There were not enough scare actors and the ones that were there just were assigned to a certain station at the park. Most of the haunted houses actors didn't even try. There were a couple of very good girls but that was it. Plus the wonderful waste smell that started coming from the sewage in the evening. Overall we have spent almost 500$ and it was not worth it. I won't recommend coming here to anyone. Choose Great America instead. read more

Really disappointed in this outing. If I didn't have an annual pass I would have been real upset. Some kind of school outing day so it was packed with kids/teens on field trips. Four of the good thrill rides are closed. They changed the park hours to open 1 hour later and close 1-2 hours earlier (from when we checked the month prior). More than half the food and drinks stalls were shut down - at least the ones we walked by. First ride of the day, Joker. Got there just about at park open. Ended up waiting 1h 20m to get on because it was one train and the ride kept shutting down "temporarily" 6-7 times. And wouldn't you know, when we rode it, we got stuck at the end - for 25 minutes. Didn't even make any sense to ask for a flash pass bc of the time waste because there wasn't really anything else that was open. The only other ride we did was Medusa. One star because everyone we interacted with was very nice - great staff! read more

This was my first time back in a very long time. The place has gone downhill. It wasn't busy at all. A lot of rides we wanted to ride was closed. Fence, rides and other attractions needed to be repainted. Food and drink prices have skyrocketed into unaffordable zones. Heck, parking was forty five bucks! It's unbelievable. We've been members for years and supporting this place through COVID. We just went again last Sunday and don't think we will be renewing next year. Just seems they are trying to hype up so many events to get people to come and charging higher prices, yet many of the rides are constantly closed and those that are open are not fully operational. We waited an hour for Side-Winder to see they only had one car running and then eventually 2 cars.. do the math with 2-4 people per car, the line took FOREVER and yet it looked short. The price for food is crazy, like $20 for a slice of pizza, they were out of wine and had been out for a week apparently, so not in a hurry to get more. Not a big deal really. Thought I'd try a margarita instead - don't do it. Super super sweet and warm.. tiny glass for $20... if you decide to get ice cream, it's $10.. I expect higher prices I guess at these places now, but the food was "meh" and look out for the yellow jackets/wasps.. they seem to love chicken. My son had a turkey leg ($16) and he ended up throwing it away. The wasps were landing on his food while trying to take a bite of it. They were on his face. Our other friend had chicken nuggets and turned away for a few seconds and they were covered in wasps. Very unenjoyable experience and tossed $200 worth of food and drinks out. I won't even mention the issue just getting into the park. We have season passes we have used this summer already and got in fine. This time, I couldn't get in. They wanted me to pay and said it expired - NOT! So they found me from my kids that still worked.. gave me a new card, got in the gate but couldn't add it to my app.. finally end of day went to guest services when the line was shorter and I had a card with someone elses name, not mine. II bet they will have an issue getting in next time too.. Just too many issues this time, too many rides closed.. hot day and the safari ride is still closed. Can't remember when it was ever open in the last year. The app gives wrong wait times.. said Batman was 10 min, but line all the way to the entrance and almost 50 min, not 10. Crazy since the parking lot was barely full to wait so long for every ride! Each year the service and employees gets worse and worse. They lie to me about their cups they said they would work for this year even though they were the last year cups and I paid them only to find out it was a lie and I have to pay new cups I paid a lot of money because every thing in this place gets separated from the year before which is ridiculous dumb. I ordered a burger from this place. It did not come with lettuce pickles tomatoes, ect. Only meat and bread. Dude, the photo is a lie!!!! The photo has all kind of stuff on the burger wtf. I asked and they said their burgers don't come with anything but meat and cheese, so why is the photo a full burger??? And I buy a fast pass but the lines are so long the regular line goes outside the fast pass line itself, so I'm still waiting with everyone else. I think the ratings can vary depending on how you are using the park and how much you had to pay. I got a season pass which includes parking. $40 bucks on the parking signage this visit. Wow! That's expensive! When I go to this park, it's usually only for a few hours. Look at some animals ( not that much to see and the animals are usually sleeping), ride a couple times on a kid ride, have a snack, then leave. I pass this park when Im on a short road trip to visit family. Oh and you gotta get the season pass during black friday. I can go to another six flags location too! Older kids might be hard to impress with this place but it keeps very young kids entertained. Some tips: it's hot in the summer, wear a hat, stay hydrated. Many families bring wagons or strollers for their kids. There are no restriction on wagons like at Disney. It is helpful to have a canopy because it's hot. There is stroller parking for shows. no one is really monitoring the strollers. read more

I have been going to this park since elementary school so it holds a ton of nostalgia for me. I'm all about roller coasters and Discovery Kingdom has some excellent ones! Medusa is a classic, very smooth ride, your head doesn't get jostled around like crazy (my pet peeve). The Joker is a blast, but I think my new favorite is Superman! If you like going super fast right from the start, Superman is the ride for you. The most recent time we visited the park we got the fast passes which came in handy! They are pricey but if you don't like waiting in long lines they are worth the money. If you don't want to shell out for the fast passes I'd recommend getting to the park right at opening, you'll be able to get to a number of rides before the lines get too long. Just be strategic about the ones you really want to see. The Joker and Superman lines get long fast so hit those first. In terms of food I think the funnel cakes and dole whip (get the mango, you'll love it) are the stand outs. Food is expensive so go in knowing that. Fright Fest is a super fun time. Spooky vibes and they turn the lights off the rides which is a cool way to experience the coasters. You can avoid the fright zones if you don't want to have monsters jumping out at you, but I'd recommend walking through a few of them! Overall I'm a big fan of this place. read more

I am surprised by all of these bad reviews. While Six Flags needs some improvements, it is not worthy of an overall 1 1/2 stars. I am a Disney freak. That being said, I don't compare the two parks. Mainly because of the price point for what you get. If you are a roller coaster fan, this is your park. You can get a season pass, including parking and a meal plan for a little over $100. Seems like a great deal to me. The staff does need some customer service training, but I didn't find them rude. They were all friendly. I enjoy seeing the animals and the butterfly area. It would be nice to have a bit of a variety of food choices that includes something semi healthy. read more

The amusement park was a blast. I took my 11 year old and her friend for the day and everyone had a great time. We arrived about a half hour after opening on a Sunday and got on three rollercoasters within the first hour. After that, the lines were about 40 minutes to an hour for the big roller coasters, which is within the range of what I expected. I had last gone during the pandemic and the park has improved a lot since then. The cost of $40 per ticket was totally worth it, especially compared to what a day pass for something like a ski trip would cost. If I go again, I'd get a fast pass, as this would cut down the wait times quit a bit. We really went for the roller coasters. I'd say like 80% of them were running. The animal exhibits seemed to be more closed, which we did not check out, and can be a bit of downer. More food variety would have been nice, but the lines were not bad. read more

We've been members here for so long and we never miss an opportunity to come for holiday in the park! We love looking at the lights and enjoying some shows. My son is a thrill seeker so he enjoys riding all the rides here. I always get him a flash pass so he spend more time on rides instead of waiting in lines. I always have to get the delicious turkey legs here and top it off with a funnel cake. He likes to make s'mores when it gets cold later in the day. This park is so crowded that unless um you have an expensive flash pass, you will wait on the line for hours to go in an attactrion that literally takes 2-3 minutes. I have waited 2 hours in the Medusa, and waited 1 hour to go to Batman, but I left since I couldn't stay there anymore. I paid roughly 50 dollars + parking (30), to literally spend all 95% of the time in the line, and go only to 2 attractions. First off, let me say I messed up by buying a season pass. There are no refunds so now I'm stuck with it and WILL NOT be coming back. The workers are rude and when I asked a question almost always the answer was "I'm not sure" with a blank stare. Like ok, are you sure you're even working right now?! No in between, I was hoping to have animal shows to watch, and again a disappointment because there were 2 animal shows which were seals, jungle animal such as birds, and then a dance show. What happened to six flags being about entertainment!! This place has gone downhill you see a lot of spots where rides were removed and no sign of getting more. Even the walk through exhibits are less. I bought the drink pans food pass, I asked about forgetting my cup. What happen? And they said I will not get anything, not even a paper cup! What cheapskates. When I had a season pass for Great America they at least gave paper cups if I forgot my reusable one. I'm really kicking myself for buying a season pass. It's been since pre pandemic since I had been to this park. I will say the improvements are noticeable for sure. Last I went they had Trams from the parking lot to the park, now they offer busses which is so much nicer as it seems faster and AIR CONDITIONING! Which was so nice on a hot spring day. The park was semi busy so wait times on rides were a little long. Nothing unsurprising and it was mine and my families first time back so we were indecisive on what rides we wanted to do on top of on Sundays right now they close early so be mindful of that. But we got the memberships so we will be back! Best way to do it so you don't have to stress about getting it all in in one day. The only few downsides to this park are not very much seating for those waiting on others to go on a ride and shade for those hot days. Food prices are outrageous, though they do offer a dining pass. I bring my own food majority of the time aside from a delicious treat such as a funnel cake every once in a while. Another great investment is the souvenir bottle so you can get free refills! I had so much fun at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. We went to the Butterfly habitat. We saw the lion, tiger, mountain lion, and giraffes. The food was good. I got a dole whip and Coke. I ate before I arrived so wasn't hungry. There were so many food choices burgers, turkey legs, corn dogs, Korean corn dogs, hot dogs, pizza, fried fish and chips. There are a lot of snack shops. They have crepes, popcorn, funnel cake, chips, ice cream, Dole whip, and other snack items. I had to push someone in a wheelchair. -2 stars because I asked a few workers for directions....scare zones, actual ride sites, bathrooms, etc. They didn't know where scare zones were, food court, or rides. It was really hard trying to find places when we didn't know where we were going. There weren't any paper maps available. The one on my phone was difficult to read. We found the one of the scare zones. I heard chainsaws. I said are we going toward the guys with the chainsaws? we did. we saw zombies, chainsaw guys, and the wolf man ran up behind me and whispered in my ear. very creepy. I will come back with friends or family. It will be a better experience. No comment right now on the rides. Except the Batman ride. We heard and watched people screaming. This park is great if you are super skinny, otherwise, the rides are not well accommodating. I went with my friends after purchasing a season pass and was unable to get on most of the rides. I am 5'11 and 250 pounds, and my friends who are smaller than me could barely fit on the rides. Six Flags claims that Medusa is their most accommodating ride, which is highly incorrect. If you are a larger person or plus size I would recommend Boomerang and Wonder Woman as the most size-inclusive rides at the park, otherwise, there are not many options. I also had many terrible experiences with the workers who multiple times ignored me and refused to help me when the seat wouldn't come up after a ride or help when I had a question.
