Apparently the humans needed an after-work drink. I needed an after-work pup cup. Sixpoint Brewery understood the assignment. We stopped by the FiDi location after work and found a HUGE outdoor patio tucked away from the street. There are big hedges and lots of greenery surrounding the space, so somehow you can sit in the middle of Lower Manhattan without feeling like you're surrounded by skyscrapers. Very relaxing. Very civilized. But let's discuss the service. Almost immediately after I arrived, someone brought me my own water bowl. Excellent start. And THEN... A complimentary pup cup appeared. For me. No ordering. No begging. No reviewing the menu while wondering why there wasn't a dog section. They simply recognized the most important customer at the table and acted accordingly. Five paws already. Mom had the apple cider, Dad had the Crisp pilsner, and they shared a giant soft pretzel. I conducted a thorough visual inspection of the pretzel but was apparently expected to be satisfied with my pup cup. Negotiations remain ongoing. The staff was incredibly sweet and attentive. Several people stopped by during our visit specifically to say hello to me, which is exactly the level of hospitality I expect. The whole patio has a relaxed beer-garden feel and is especially good for an after-work hang. Plenty of space, greenery, string lights and enough separation from the street that I could relax instead of supervising every person walking past. Dogba's verdict: Water bowl without asking? Complimentary pup cup? IMMEDIATELY. Huge outdoor patio? Separated from the street? Staff came over just to admire me? Repeatedly. Share of the pretzel? We need to discuss this. 5 paws out of 5. We sat at an outdoor table and were surrounded by a cloud of fruit flies the entire time. One landed in my first beer, so I didn't finish it. They brought a replacement -- and charged me for both. Flies were also crawling on the plates, landing in the food and the ketchup, and hovering over everything. Totally disgusting. What bothered me most was the staff's reaction: complete indifference, as if a swarm of fruit flies around food and drinks is just how things are here. It isn't. Fruit flies in a food establishment are a critical violation under the NYC health code, and I'm reporting what I saw to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. We paid and left as fast as we could -- in hindsight I should have asked for a refund rather than a second beer I was charged for. We were thirsty after visiting the Statue of Liberty. Our family was looking forward to sitting down and resting before hitting the 911 memorial. I'll start off this review by stating I really do enjoy Sixpoint beer. They've got some of their reliable brews, along with new innovations that are always fun to try. My most recent time at sixpoint though, service was a bit of a letdown. Despite there being quite a few members of the waitstaff, we couldnt really track anyone down when we needed them. We ordered an appetizer, but never received silverware/napkins and the food was getting cold before we could get anyone's attention. When we were closing out our check, they'd cleared our glasses from the table despite there still being beer in them. The calamari wasn't the greatest either - a bit greasy, not the most flavor, a little chewy. All in all, I'll likely give them another go when a new round of innovations come out - and am hoping that we had just had an off day of service! read more

Came here on their soft opening day. What a great space. Very cool art on the walls to. Very NYC vibes. They have Great beer, food and the staff is very friendly. What a great addition to the area. I am soo glad Sixpoint has finally come to Manhattan. The Bar area has plenty of seating and they have many tables. Their food menu is very small until their actual opening later in the month. They have flights too to try different beers if you are unsure of what you want. They also have 7 tvs so it is a perfect place to grab drinks, food and catch a game. They have a small gift shop area too where you can take some of Sixpoint home with you. Shirts, hats, glasses and beer as well. They also have awesome music playing! They have sixpoint (obviously) and victory beers on tap. They also have a beer garden which is set to open March 31st! Can't wait to check that out as well. We just ate here and the service was extremely disappointing. We asked for a table for 13 and were told they could accommodate us, but that we might need to be seated at two tables. We agreed. We were then directed to a long table that did not have enough chairs for our entire party, so we sat at that table and the one next to it, assuming that was what they meant. Shortly after, someone who appeared to be a manager approached us and told us that we might need to give up the second table and all squeeze into the first one--even though it didn't have enough chairs--because they "always make it work" and that the place may get busy really fast. I explained that there weren't enough chairs at the first table to begin with, or we would have preferred to sit together. She then tried to blame us for moving chairs around, which we did not do. Unfortunately, the poor service didn't stop there. One person in our party was served the wrong dish. When he said he didn't order it, he was told he could keep it for free for the inconvenience and that his correct order would be brought out. While he was still waiting for his correct dish and already eating the incorrect one, another server came out and tried to take the plate away. The food itself was good, but the service was so bad that it completely ruined the experience. I do not recommend this place. read more

Having been a long time fan of Six Point beer, I was eagerly awaiting the opening of their Brookfield Place location. It is a massive space (feels almost like an airport hangar or warehouse) with copious amounts of delicious beer - mostly from Six Point themselves, but you'll still find some greats by their affiliated breweries, such as Victory (love their Philly location) and Southern Tier. Beer -wise: they have quite the variety! And they have specialty brews that are only brewed for that location - such as a spicy chocolate stout (it was divine), a few sours, and a coffee cream ale. They do flights, which my partner and I split, and my favorite was the spiced farmhouse ale. I will say the beer is not cheap for a brewery ($9 for a pint, $18.50 for a flight), but the beer is worth it and it's on par with what you'd expect in Manhattan. While we didn't get any food, it did look delicious as we saw other people ordering the pretzel and burgers. Maybe next time we will try. read more

Brew o' clock! I came here since it was close to ICE and I had a 2 hour break. I was greeted promptly at the bar by the friendly bartender. Very vibrant place with cool vibes in the afternoon. It was spacious and offered lots of outdoor seating. They had some specials for Sunday which was awesome so I got a glass of wine. I know this is more of a casual place but my only tiff is that they only had stemless wine glasses, I prefer to drink my wine from a stem because it doesn't warm my wine quickly but it'll do. I do think perhaps they could carry a handful just for the guests who do want to have it in that glass. I didn't eat but I did see some of the food that went out and it looked really good. Had a lovely lunch at the bar with the knowledgeable and friendly bartender Madeline. Her knowledge of the offerings and my preferences, made it easy to enjoy a couple beers again. I really like the menu for it's diversity of entrees, wraps and salads. I settled on the Fish and chips and it was some of the best I've had since being in London. Easy check out with those portable swipe machines completed my day. The space is nice, with a little merch shop inside, and plenty of outdoor tables so the Battery Park city "nuclear families" can enjoy their time with the kiddies without disturbing me.
