They have a giant security robot that roams the block ( completely useless) and one security guard at the drive through ramp. My husband went down the steps into the parking garage to get the car and my daughter and I stayed with all of the luggage. The lobby began to fill up so to be polite my daughter and I headed out front with our luggage to wait and make space for the new people. We were approached by a homeless man that was completely out of his mind loaded. He tried to grab either me, my daughter, or my luggage. As he approached I blocked my daughter and belongings. He kept grabbing at us. He kept telling me " come with me now. Come now! I'll take you places. Girl you come with me" I asked him to leave and he wouldn't. This exchange seemed to go on forever. My daughter was terrified. I glanced at the big security guy and pleaded for help with my eyes. Unfortunately he looked at me and went down the ramp. A man suddenly came around the corner to get into Enterprise for his car he was renting and swooped in to save the day. He started shouting at the man " this is my family! Leave! Get out of here now!" That man was a hero and waited with my daughter and I until my husband came with the car. Ladies: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES leave that lobby while you wait for your vehicle! That security guard will not help you..... he simply a decoration for the building!!!!!! That homeless man eyed us down until the second we turned the corner in our car. It was absolutely terrifying. So much so my daughter begged and pleaded to not return the car to this location and instead drive all the way home. So we paid the fee and drove home.

I rented from them many times for Many Oregon road trips and can't recommend them enough. I haven't been in Oregon in a while and I miss them actually. There are not many companies where you get a person on the phone or by email instead of a robot anymore, and this place is one of them. What a gem. I will always use their service when I get the chance. Thank you Steve and Norma.

(I also don't…read moreown a cellphone which means I'm used to being treated like a weirdo) usually this posed no issue for me whatsoever -- even when renting a car. That's because places like Budget rent-a-car have let me rent vehicles in the past by just letting them place a $250 hold on funds in my account, in addition to prepaying my rental. Except this time. For some reason (I think because it's been so long since I had a credit card, that my rating is low now due to no recent credit history) they denied my ability to rent from them. But not until I had already made the reservation and prepaid the charges, weeks before. When I showed up to the rental counter (the day before my family and I were to leave for Disneyland) Budget told us no go! Ugh. Our little 2004 Kia Rio is fine for the occasional grocery shopping trip around town but with no AC, manual steering and some pretty uncomfortable seats, we really didn't want to take our chances in the heat on the grapevine driving down to Cali. We were so distraught and trying to brainstorm options (like asking a friend to take the risk of renting it in their name and letting us use it for the trip -- something we REALLY didn't want to do.) That's when the girls at the Budget counter told us about Steve from Crown Auto Rental. They gave us his number and even encouraged us to call him from their phone (I think they felt sorry for our little one, sitting dejected in the corner of their lobby.) We called Steve and he happened to be close by. He quickly crunched some numbers and came up with several options for us for our trip, no credit card needed. Steve picked us up from Budget and took us back to his office on 105th and NE Sandy. He offered us a mini-van and a Taurus, for just a couple hundred more than our pre-paid Budget reservation (still $200 less than a last minute Budget res at the same time.) He took a $150 hold on funds (instead of Budget's $250) as a deposit on the car and he let us take it out of state (an exception he doesn't normally make.) Basically, Steve and Norma saved our whole vacation (and we hadn't had one in 8 years!) the car was great, ran well and got us to and from our destination in one piece and we didn't have to run around awkwardly asking our friends to put their financial livelihoods on the line for our vacation. These are good people -- with good intentions and a smart business model and I highly recommend them to anyone who has trouble renting from a traditional car company or anyone who likes to support a local business with a heart. I know Crown will be our first call the next time we need a car. I can't say enough good stuff. *Oh! and they promptly refunded the $150 hold once we returned the car in good condition. Awesome experience all around.

I later got a bill for EXTRA LATE hours because Hertz staff hadn't gotten around to processing it until after 5p. I don't care when you process it, don't charge me. To add further insult, I got an email saying there was damage to the car and should submit a report. "We understand accidents happen, just fill out this form..." I was advised by an attorney not to do that. Hertz kept sending me email notices until I told them I was consulting an attorney and then they suddenly stopped. Apparently many other people are getting these solicitous messages too in an attempt by new ownership to make more money. I'd previously had incidents like a hertz claiming I hadn't returned the gas full. When I submitted receipts, those messages stopped. What a fraudulent company. I've been a devoted Hertz Gold member for decades but have switched all my business now to National, which has been a delight. Per NYT and other online news sources: Hertz customers have recently reported a surge in unwarranted charges specifically related to a new AI-powered damage scanning system and rigid automated billing for extra hours. These systems often flag minor or "phantom" damage, such as shadows or water reflections, and can automatically charge your card without human review. Shame on you, Hertz.

First time renting with Dollar Car Rental. Worked out really well (like everything else with our…read morePortland trip). I'm completely aware that car rental car companies are pretty much the same, with price being the most important factor. And the price can vary greatly based on the platform you use to book the order. Another important factor are the rewards gained (like it is for any other credit card purchase). And of course, they are out to make a buck, so incentivize their employees to upsell (insurance, prepay gas, accessories), along with adding on various mandatory surcharges (hidden amongst the myriad of government taxes and fees). So as of this moment, here are the rules I try to follow. -- It matters what platform one books it through. Selection of cars within a class doesn't really matter to me. Prices can vary. Some require prepayment while others pay at time of rental. Never use a third party company specializing in car rentals (e.g. wisecars). And will no longer use car sharing platforms like Turo: too risky. -- Always decline insurance (liability insurance is already included in price; comprehensive/collision can come from credit card used or your home auto insurance policy). Prebuying gas can save you money if you drive the car down to empty. I've learned that is something I no longer have any interest in doing. So now always look for a nearby Costco to fill up before returning. -- loyalty rewards tied to the rental car company itself is irrelevant. That's why rental car company points aren't even tracked as having any value, like airline miles or credit card company points are. In fact, some companies will tack on additional fees if you give them your airline frequent flyer number to get additional points. -- unless one must require a certain number of seats or feature (e.g. a minivan to seat 7, a convertible or 4x4 for Hawaii), getting a compact to intermediate works for us. And in many cases, they will upgrade you to a full size for free (cause that's what is available). -- Using the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card as the sole payment method because it provided PRIMARY car rental insurance. This is important for me since any damage to the rental car would be handled by Chase first, before your private insurance would.. Chase made a big change on the Sapphire Reserve card where rental car are now only 1% back (unless prepaid on the Chase Travel site, where it is 8% back). -- Reputable Sites to check (this is where a multi-tab, multi-screen set-up helps. No longer use Google) -- Costco Travel (Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise) - 5% back (2% executive). Pay later. -- Delta Cars and Stays (uses the Expedia platform) - 2% back in miles, sometimes gives 1:1 MQDs. Pay later. -- Chase Travel - prepaid. 8% back. But have always found them to be more expensive, but would choose this if competitive. -- Citi Travel - 10% back, but would have to use different card. -- Kayak - just to see what it out there. Ended up booking with Delta, getting a compact for two days for $68. I don't remember the last time getting such a low rate. One thing that can make a big difference in your rental is how long one has to stand in line at the airport rental counter. We got lucky: it was a Saturday so not particularly busy but the Budget/Avis counter had a long line while the Dollar line next door was empty. Just had to present my Driver's License and credit card. Because I was new to Dollar, I went through the 'mandatory' questions: do you want to upgrade? are you sure? OK, I'll upgrade you for free anyway. do you want to buy insurance? do you want to prepay for gas? One thing they did not ask was about toll passes, which is another way they get you. I was given a small packet of papers and directed to take the escalators directly to the 3rd floor where the Dollar cars are located. From there, I was to find the Dollar booth where the attendant handed me the keys. We had gotten a Hybrid Corolla. We ended up driving a lot more for the two days than I intended, and getting 50+ mpg car when gas prices were so high was a big plus. And it felt right, driving it around the Columbia River Valley. Returning the car was easy, following the signs for Dollar into the main parking garage. This time, there was actually an attendant who took the keys from us, mentioned that we had forgotten something (thank you...they must be trained to do that), and gave us helpful directions on how to get to the terminal. A few hours later, the invoice came via email and the pricing was what was quoted.

Ended up waiting until 6:30 to pick up the car because the employed did not have a computer code? Then, the car I had booked was not available. Employee said I would have to purchase an upgrade because the car I had reserved was not cleaned yet. Couple of minutes later, the "upgrade" was now free. Except now with my lucky upgrade, the pre paid gas bill doubled. End of my trip now, I just called to ask about drop offs and the employee said to "fill out the back of the pamphlet" and "drop off the keys where I picked up the keys, in the box". I asked if the box was at the front desk, since I picked up the keys at the front desk. Employee then said the drop off box is "20 feet from the cars". I asked for him to be more specific on where "the box" was & the employee got frustrated, said I was making it "complicated". When I explained that I am asking for a marker to represent where the box will be, (for example "near the elevator") he got emotionally heightened and told me he was going to get a manager to repeat to me the "same exact steps he just told me" because "'there is nothing more to explain aside from "drop it off in a box 20 feet from the car'". When I park in the garage, how will "the box" be 20 feet from the car? There are hundreds of cars on the floor. Whole experience from pick up to drop off has been ridiculous. Disgusting brand representatives at PDX. Never booking again & never recommending. I called to make sure I did Dollar Car Rental's drop off procedures correctly, in order to ensure the safety of their vehicle key. Disappointing experience to end our vacation. Hopefully I find "the box".
