Beware of Damage Scam! Take PICS before and after!!! My fault for not taking pictures of before and after - and trusting a rental car company (won't make mistake again). Upon return I was notified there were scratches on the driver door and passenger door - they were at the seam and there was no way I caused the damage. I did some research and learned that on February 26, 2025, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida preliminarily approved a settlement in the case Philippe Calderon, et al. v. Sixt Rent A Car, LLC, Case No. 0:19-cv-62408-AHS, for claims related to Sixt's billing and credit reporting practices. The lawsuit alleged that Sixt Rent A Car improperly charged customers vehicle damage related charges and, in some instances, reported those charges to credit agencies without sufficient investigation or notice, potentially harming consumers' credit profiles. read more

***BEWARE****. First time using SIXT. Will NEVER ever again and will tell everyone I know about our experience. When we returned the car we drove through a tunnel with a bright flash, apparently a camera. When we got out, I started to take pics around the car because I have always done that to be safe and was a Turo host. The attendant rushed us and said to go, it was already checked in and "was all good". A week later I got a bill for rim damage with an attached photo, it's clearly motion blurr. It's been time consuming going back and forth about it, they lose the previous responses and are billing me an outrageous amount and will only reconsider with full photos, which I was stopped from taking. I did not have one so they canceled my reservation but is refusing to give me my money back $265.52. Saying no exceptions, they did not give me a car to drive away with but have my money. Sixt - rent a car .... More like S____t - rental car. (Please excuse my French) -but that's how this business operates and makes the consumer feel. Although a newcomer to the rental game, I t's almost as if they have no concern for the guest experience. Reservation confirmation means nothing... your rental car might be given up to the Two Young ladies that walk in right before you. Hidden fines, secret add-on fees , and a ridiculous cancellation policy. Let's just say that the charming front desk workers and manager truly don't care about guest satisfaction or the travel experience. Took a bus over 2+ hours to Sixt and relied/depended on their reservation which I had paid for and pre-booked, but due to circumstances I was unable to rent the car due to not having a utility bill with me. I even called them to confirm my reservation, and no where online does it mention a utility bill is necessary. Spent several hours here going back and forth with the manager/front desk, to which I said thanks for your time and walked across the street to Enterprise. They won't tell you "you have a great day" with an extremely sarcastic/eye rolling voice when you try to book with them. To top it off, I asked the manager if they have a ride back or a complimentary shuttle . He said "we have a suv driver somewhere but he just left ... so it could be a while. " -completely emotionless and without a single care at all! Less than stellar 1st rental experience with SIXT Rent-A-Car in Scottsdale. I travel here frequently, and tried them based upon the recommendation of a friend. First, the entire rental process was disorganized and took about 30 minutes too long (they were having some kind of computer and/or scanner issues). Then, they have a complicated process where they need to call you to verify your #, and this became a hassle (and they were not very adept at problem solving). However, my real frustration was the sheer lack of concern that the manager ("Gary") showed in any of this -- he could have cared less about my business. In the end, I finally got the car rented -- it was nice (Jaguar F-Type) and the price was VERY reasonable, but in the future, I will stick with Enterprise or some of the other more mainstream rental agencies I have status with. I was really hoping for a better experience, as I would have liked to have been a repeat SIXT customer. read more

My experience with Sixt started so positive; they had cars available when other didn't and gave great customer service. However, when I returned the car after one day of having it they found two windshield chips. I was traveling with my daughter and we went around a small area (and we're in stop and go traffic anytime we were on the highway); these chips didn't happen on my watch. Definitely my fault for not catching it, but I felt like I was being hustled. It was the worst way to end a trip. I have photo proof that these were there, but be very aware if you're forced to use this company. This seems to be how they operate. So unfortunate. read more

Avoid this company like the plague. I made a reservation for a trip and decided to pay in full up front. A few days later, our trip plans were completely changed. Sixt, unlike most other competitors, didn't have any locations in that area. Sixt said that they are unable to provide full refunds, so we had the option of canceling with a partial refund (they'd keep hundreds) OR them keeping it all and we could use it another time. In order to get that response even, we had to call and wait on hold for 30 minutes, talk to a rep who wasn't empowered at all to help, were told we'd be sent an email on next steps from the rep (who confirmed our email), never got the email, had to call back and wait AGAIN on hold, were told to email an email and wait 24-48 hours for a response, got a response that they couldn't accomodate refunds. Just save yourself any potential headaches and go somewhere else. This place is the opposite of customer-centric. read more

I rented a car from Sixt for a day through Expedia. When I went to pick up my car at Sky Harbor, the agent said I couldn't use my Visa debit card for collateral and no other rental company would either. I told him I rent cars all the time with a debit card. He said Phoenix is too close to Mexico and I could just take the car over the border and never return. I asked him to cancel reservation but he said he couldn't because I booked through Expedia. Expedia would do anything either and even they had hard time getting ahold of a SixT rep. After reading Yelp reviews, they might of done me a favor. But I'll be calling my bank to stop payment tomorrow. read more

A big scam. They promise cheaper rates for longer rentals. However, for 2 weeks it's $11 a day. Over 2 weeks it's $16 a day. Customer service is nonexistent. Vile company on their way to hell in a handbasket. More importantly, the local number they list is fraudulent. It goes to their robotic voicemail in Europe. I made reservations through Priceline. Our flight came in at 11:45 pm. We waited for a SIXT shuttle at Durham airport to pick us up. We were waiting awhile so we called the 1-800 number at 12:15 am, they put us on hold while they contact SIXT at the RDU location. We were on hold for a little over 15 minutes for them to come back and say that the location closed at 12:30 am and they couldn't get no one on the line. However, our reservations were made and accepted for 12:30 am on Sept 7, 2024 and fully paid. We were at RDU airport stranded until a Budget rental car shuttle driver was making his last pick up for the night, he asked us if we needed help, we explained to him what happened so he called to Budget and asked if they had a car we can rent and they did, thank God for Budget and they remained open, past their time, to help us out. Getting an Uber would not have been a financial option. read more

1 week in advance I placed a reservation online for a rental car through the lyft app, and that process was super easy and simple . Planning on paying with debit card I looked up the stipulations on paying with debit, so from searching the website what I came across on my end was that your bank card has to have a physical branch location. No where on the website did I come across anything saying I have to have a utility bill. Fast forward to the day I have to pick up my rental. I pay for a lyft to arrive at the Sixt Scottsdale location. The young gal i gave my debit card too asks if I had a utility bill and I said no and she said well in order to move along I need a utility bill. She asked if I read the fine print i said yes well she said right here on my end it says here in really small fine print that you need a utility bill. The utility bill isn't an option for me because my utilities are included with my rent. Anyways in the process of reserving a rental car online through the lyft app some one at the sixt corporation should really consider not putting really useful and important information in fine small print. I wouldn't have wasted my valuable time and money at sixt if they had made it clear that I need a utlity bill ONLY to use my debit card. It was my wedding weekend and enterprise suvs were not available( only reason I rented through sixt) everything went well until my husband returned the vehicle. They claimed we smoked in the vehicle was charged $400( my husband has asthma and I don't smoke and we are also in the car with our 4 children) they also kept my $200 deposit that was a total of $1500 they charged me for a 5 day rental. Everytime I call to speak to a manager they hang up on me. Please you guys do your self a favor and never rent from these people or you will get screwed just like we did. But nowhere on the website did it say this when they took my $$. I am lucky budget/avis was across the street from this location, I got a car in 5 minutes there for a better price anyways. Okay no problem..just process my refund, NOPE. I must wait 6 business days to get my refund...Here I am 6 days later and I don't have a refund. NEVER AGAIN. Two Week Rental. Reserved & paid in advance. $20.00 Uber to location to pick up - they needed a PAPER copy or printout of my utility bill to rent to me using my Debit. Refused to look at the balance, account & address info from my APS App on my phone (with a more current balance than the latest bill). I said fine - figured they needed the paper to file. $20.00 Uber home, print Utility Bill. $20.00 Uber back to rental location. Wait 30 mins for them to figure out cars and complete the agreement. SHE HANDS THE PAPER BACK TO ME!! I said, "I thought you needed the printout?" She replies like I'm a complete idiot for asking, "I needed to SEE the printout. We don't need to actually keep it or copy it or anything." I stifled my scream so I could get going. FINALLY get the vehicle - 2 hours later than when I was supposed to get it. Drive home to pack car for trip. Trunk latch is jammed - back door won't open. Call. They don't have any more SUV's at the location. My choices are to take it to the location and wait for them to try to repair it & then wait indefinitely until they can have someone bring another vehicle if they can't fix it or drive 45 minutes to the airport to swap the vehicle. We are already 2 hours behind schedule so I opt to swap. 45 mins to Airport. $20.00 to refill the tank because she said if it wasn't full, they'd charge $10.00/gallon. (yup - I basically had to pay for the privilege of driving their broken vehicle between locations for them.) 30 mins at airport exchanging the vehicle. 45 minutes back home to pack the car. When it's all said and done - nearly SIX HOURS past when we were supposed to leave and $60 in unexpected expenses from my budget later, we are finally packed and on the road. We were soo far behind schedule that I ended up loosing $80.00 for the first night of the hotel I'd booked because we got there soo late. I chose not to be pissed, let it go & enjoy my vacation. Two weeks - everything is great. My family and I had a fabulous trip. Return the vehicle. Agent looks it over. All is fine! I go on about my life. Everything worked out well. Or did it? ...1 week after the vehicle was returned, Sixt charges my account $30.00. I look over the invoice and see that they charged me an extra day because I returned the vehicle at the time I pickup up at the airport instead of the time I picked up at the 1st location. I'm irritated, but I accept the error and opt to leave it alone. 2nd week after the vehicle was returned - I get an email that there is a scratch and damage to the vehicle and they want me to fill out a report and provide my insurance info to file a claim. WHAT?!!!? Thought everything was fine!! Email them back that there was no damage when i dropped it off, per their own staff, so they are NOT getting my insurance info. Haven't heard anything else. This week, 3rd week after the vehicle was returned, another charge hits my account for $26.00. I've spent the last 2 days trying to find out what the charge is for. I've received no email & now suddenly because of COVID - they don't have any phone support for billing - you can only actually speak to someone to make a reservation. Any questions or issues about charges - you have to email for them to get back to you whenever. This is my first time using Sixt as I've always booked Enterprise or Budget through Costco, and in total, not accounting for the cost of my time - I've lost $196.00 (and counting apparently) dealing with Sixt because they were less than Enterprise or Budget by $50.00 TOTAL. Some Mistakes cost money - I will NEVER make the mistake of renting from Sixt again though. read more

This was easily the best car rental experience I have had. We wanted a large vehicle to accommodate 6 on a long weekend trip to LA. We rented a Suburban. We were so pleased with the quality of the car... it was almost brand new.. a little over 1000 miles on it, equipped with a DVD player which was very handy for the road trip, and the car was immaculate and drove so nicely. The customer service was also top notch, friendly, thorough, and quick. I was even able to park my car for the 4 days on the lot without issue. Thanks to Olga and Bill for the excellent service! The people giving 2 star reviews are NOT reading the fine print. You have to pay ahead of time, and if it's with a debit card, you need to show them a utility bill, or for me it was my autopay notice from my gmail. Katherina was very sweet to upgrade me because they didn't have the basic car in stock, so I got to drive a fancy Rav 4. I really like their high tech office and the uniforms are super sharp looking. Just be sure to inspect the car first for damage, but that's with any rental car company. The printout they give you has existing damage listed halfway down the form. read more

I made the mistake of making a car rental reservation at this place (pre-paid) before reading all of the negative Yelp reviews (kicking myself). When I called the store 5 days before to see if I could move up my reservation by 2 hours, I found that it is impossible to speak with a person at the store. At one point I was on hold for 10 minutes. When I called back, I still could not get a person, and was directed to the sixt.com website. At the website, they wanted me to re-book my reservation again, by charging me the entire pre-paid amount to my credit card AGAIN, plus a reservation modification fee of $50.00. No thank you. When I called the store today -- 2 days before my reservation -- to cancel my reservation, I was also directed to the website, which advised me there was a cancellation fee of $95.04. ("This reservation was booked at a binding pre-paid rate. If you cancel the reservation, you will be charged 95.04 USD (plus tax).") I can understand a reasonable cancellation fee, but $100 to cancel a car rental reservation is excessive, in my view. I am cancelling my reservation, and apparently going to be charged $95.04, plus tax for the privilege of not doing business with this place. I cannot comment on all of the other negative experiences I have read about concerning this particular location, because although I accidentally failed to review Yelp before making this reservation (still kicking myself), I had the good sense to look to Yelp and decided to avoid this entire bad experience. UPDATE: I emailed the company to complain about the cancellation fee, and was told that this information was contained in a "Rental Information," which I allegedly consented to when I booked the reservation. I did not read this when I booked through Priceline, and have no idea whether this was in "Rental Information," or not. In summary, I was told: "If you wish to continue with the cancellation of your reservation, please note that there will be a charge of $92.54." I'm not sure I will actually get that $2.50 discount. FURTHER UPDATE: I booked at Enterprise. If I choose to cancel, there is NO cancellation fee. read more

I was a little hesitant renting a car from Sixt since they're relatively new, and I usually go with Enterprise. However, Sixt blew me away with their customer service. They went above and beyond to accommodate every need I had and then some. I even got a free upgrade which was great since I was, unbeknownst to me, about to be driving into a massive blizzard. The bigger SUV than I had originally rented was a godsend on the roads. I will definitely rent from them again the next time I'm in Scottsdale. read more

This company charged my card over the phone for a rental car. When I went to claim the car on the day of my pre booked rental, they would not let me rent the car even though I had already paid and had all the funds for the deposit as well. This caused much stress as I was about to leave for a trip and had to make arrangements at the last minute to rent a car from a different, apparently much more professional business than Sixt. This was in May and I have been dealing with this issue ever since. I had to start a claim with my bank because I was never able to reach a manager to talk to about this situation. Sixt told my bank I made my reservation online, but that is not true because I made the reservation over the phone with a representative. This caused me to lose my claim. They provided frauduldocumentation that I made the reservation online. When you call customer service, you just get sent to a recorded message. The lady who I spoke to on the day of the rental said that Sixt would at least give me a credit for a future reservation but that has not happened and they've stolen the money that I already gave them. This has caused me so much undue stress and I am nine months pregnant and about to have a baby any day. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Although it took a lot of time, patience, phone calls and effort, which was very inconvenient, at least in the end Sixt finally did make it right and refund me due to the miscommunication at the time of rental. read more

After thinking back on the process I have a few more suggestions to leave yourself less vulnerable. A. As previously mentioned video all nicks and damage upon initial inspection. Pay attention to windshield. They sent a picture that really showed nothing. The also charge an extra day for the 20min chip repair. B. When we dropped it off at the airport it was quite dark. I asked the attendant to do a walk around. He said he'd do it later...mistake!! This leaves you open for shady practice...an extra 75.00 with no real way to contest it. read more

I preordered and paid for Hyundai Tucson or similar. When looking online this was the cheapest SUV I could find. Checking in was easy and they gave me a free upgrade to a BMW X5 which was an absolutely beautiful SUV. I was afraid there would be some hidden fees but they assured me there weren't. Had the suv for four days and brought it back and was not charged anymore than what I had originally paid. I was pleased with my experience and will use them in the future. read more

Let me tell you about this place. Run for the hills. I had a week reservation and came in to pick my car up and they were "overbooked" and didn't have a car for me. They offered me a minivan, but that wasn't large enough for what I needed. I left and came back 5 mins later and asked if I could do a one way rental and I could make it work. The manager came out and said "we already canceled your reservation and have nothing for you" when I asked if she was being serious she then went on to say "yes I am serious, we're not renting to you". Most disgusting, horrible service ever. The manager raised his voice at 2 out of 3 customers because one customer wanted to drop off his car and leave. The manager's attitude was "screw you" and made sure to move even slower. He was also rude to his employee. For us, he refused to honor the legally binding contract, the paid for rental. He tried a bait and switch and when I balked, he yelled and refused to rent. Asking for help from customer service just meant sitting on hold and being given apologies, not solutions. While cheaper at this location, than the airport, because of less fees, it is not worth the aggravation. Then again, go to another agency. Read the other reviews. The manager needs to be fired. Rather than responding on yelp why not solve the problem at the time. The review right after mine was from the gentleman that was there when I was, and he was treated poorly. read more

I was so happy to find a rental near my home in Scottsdale. When I arrived at the Scottsdale and Shea location, I waited over an hour for my car. Luckily I walked around the car and made the attendant document every little scratch and dent. Unfortunately I missed the miniscule chip on the windshield for which I am being charged almost $90!! There was a dent about the size of a half dollar on the door that they were not going to divulge prior to me driving it away. I am betting that plenty of other renters got to fix the dent in that door. Beware...this is the shadiest place I ever encountered in the rental car world. Back to Enterprise for me... read more
