I finally drove all the way to Matthews to check out this joint. I actually arrived at 11 am...and well, the waitress was nowhere in sight! I waited about 10 minutes...when she finally slid into the restaurant. What?!? Also, they didn't crank up the overhead music until I was halfway done with the meal. I almost couldn't believe just how slack everything was here! I mean, is this a Chinese restaurant...or just a Chinese pick-up joint? Anyway, I ordered their Kung Pao Chicken lunch special, along with an order of "Rainbow" dumplings. Kung Pao Chicken was pretty good, but quite sloppy in presentation. I actually fixed it before taking the picture! The "Rainbow" dumplings were pretty good as well, but that horribly acidic sauce that came with it nearly ruined the taste. Also, despite its name, the dumplings barely had any color...only the yellow ones were vivid, the rest were all faded in color. Why so dull and lackluster in color??? Here's the worst part. Despite my getting a rice dish AND eating in, the late waitress dropped only chopsticks at my table. ?!? When I asked for a fork, she dropped a flimsy, plastic fork...so flimsy that I could barely eat with it. Just WOW. To me, that confirmed that this was more of a Chinese pick-up joint...not a restaurant! If the foods were better presented (especially if their "Rainbow" dumplings looked more colorful!), or they offered decent silver utensils, or their waitress arrived on time to serve their customers, I might have dropped at least a 3-star rating...but unfortunately, they failed on so many levels during my visit. Sizzle is one of my favorite spots for dumplings especially the soup dumplings. I went with two friends for lunch the bill was $57 we had three orders of different dumplings and buns and a beef curry. We split the bill 3 way, no drinks only waters, it was $17 per person not counting the tip. The ambiance is nice and clean. There's amor parking since it's by a busy mall. I was lucky for the second time to find it right upfront. I recommend coming here if you want a fresh bobba tea, ramen, ir dumpling. My friend curry was sadly with no flavor and rubbery, she added salt and pepper and still wasn't flavorful or good at all. Came here specifically for soup dumplings, and they did not disappoint. Ordered the pork soup dumplings. There are 6 in each order. We weren't sure what to expect, but upon the first bite, we were immediately impressed and decided that they were delicious! Very flavorful. We could've easily ordered 2 orders, and it would've been enough to get us full! Ordered lo mein noodles that came with shrimp, chicken, need, and mussels. It was very flavorful and delicious as well. My husband ordered their fried pork chops and a side of rice. Very flavorful as well, and they were not greasy at all. This is a casual dining spot but also perfect for date night. Everyone was super pleasant and efficient. Definitely plan on coming back and trying other things on their menu. I placed an order via Uber Eats yesterday after a long day with work; it was supposed to be lunch but ended up being dinner. I had enough food that I have leftovers for today's lunch. I ordered the spring rolls (forgot to take a picture before devouring), deep fried shumai, and Singapore rice noodle. The shumai were my favorite, but the spring rolls and sauce were good too. Visited Sizzle for lunch this afternoon. The food was good. The dumplings were made fresh and the special sauce with my dumplings made it even better. The sauce was a combination of fish oil and soy. I really want to like this place. I want more Asian restaurants to succeed in the Matthews area especially one that has authentic cuisine. Seeing other reviews about slow service, I order a takeout for my first time to avoid this issue and was told it should be about 20 mins. I decided to try the soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns and 3 different ramen bowls. Before I get to the foods let's cover the service part. There was one waitress who was covering all the tables, taking phone orders, and greeting walk-in customers. No need to say she was overwhelmed and was doing the best she could. The highlights of our meal were the soup dumplings and the pork buns. If I ordered from here again I would focus on the appetizers since they seemed to be made from scratch. They were good. As for the ramens, the broth tasted decent but the noodles were overcooked and the ingredients were nothing special. If I really want Ramens, I would go to Rappongi instead because that is where you will get great ramens. We ordered 3 ramen bowls but ended up with 2 ramen bowls and a rice dish. I decided not to point it out because after arriving at the restaurant and waiting for another 15 mins for our order to be completed, I saw that the kitchen was very chaotic trying to keep up with the takeouts and the customers that were eating there so decided to cut my losses. The Ambiance here is more like the mall and fast food so not a date night kind of place. I hope the owner gets more help and put more focus on the dishes that they do well. read more

I came around 3:00pm, the kitchen was pretty settled. I was looking forward to try their chicken mushroom dumplings, y'all the flavor in each was delicious! (Thinking about it makes my mouth water all over) each bite was juice and the perfect crisp too. I usually ask for them to be extra crispy, it was. Both experienced have been delivery and both have been great. The food has gotten to my home hot and flavorful. My favorite thing on the menu is the Hot & Sour soup. It reminds me of the Hot & Sour soup I used to order at a hole-in-the-wall place back in Houston. I haven't had it prepared anywhere near the same until Sizzle. I've even tried recreating it for myself with no real success. Just know that the portion is generous. I requested 2 of the soup on my first order and the 4 containers of soup got me through lunch for the next few days as well as my dinner when I ordered. Love this little Taiwanese shop in the heart of downtown Matthews! Sizzle has been open for a little bit and renovated and revamped their menu a few times. What they lack in refinement, they make up for with their handmade dumplings and special dishes that you can't find anywhere else! I really have a mix feeling about this place. Should this be a 3 stars or 4 stars. I came on a Sunday afternoon, they are a little busy. They gave us a menu with a lot of sizzle dishes. Being that the name is sizzle I ordered sizzle dish, the food was tasty. However, I expected the dish to be sizzling with iron plate. The plate was hot but sizzling, I think if it comes sizzling this will be easy 4 stars. But the food was great. Also I saw they have other Chinese dishes that is not on the menu that was given to me. I did ordered the dumpling, it is one of best dumplings that I had, the wrapping was crispy and the meat inside was juicy. It's hit or miss. I've only been twice for lunch and maybe I'll give it another try for dinner one day. Seems to be a general lack of management or knowledge of how to operate a restaurant. Despite not many people (after 1 pm) used dishes from diners who had left remained sitting unattractively on tables. Service was confusing. Two people ordering two lunch specials preceded (for one) a small bowl of soup. The lunch for him came, before mine. A little later mine arrived. Three-quarters through the meal, soup made it. (No apologies- at a serious restaurant they would have asked if still wanted it- and it should have not been charged for.) If things are so disorganized at lunch, I imagine chaos at dinner. Food for a table should be coordinated to be served at one time. If a dish is forgotten, at least an acknowledgment. Maybe training is just not done so no idea of what good or appropriate service should be. Food was more appetizing on first visit. Spring roll not to my liking either time- recommend skipping that. Main courses saying "spicy" on menu were unfortunately not. Both times asking for "spicy" when ordered. Given randomness of experience, didn't feel like a valuable customer. Great food and nice people ! Small cozy atmosphere and not fancy by any means , which is perfect for us! Only about 10 -12 tables inside. We ordered the rainbow dumplings , spicy ramen and kung pau chicken. Large portions and amazing taste! Only thing to mention is the chicken dish came out wayyyy before everything else . We were hoping the dumplings would be the appetizer, so the ordering of the food was a bit odd. Everything however was fresh and piping hot so we didn't mind so much ! Delicious food with fun service. They were busy and just had one waitress, so we had to wait sometimes for service, however she answered all of our questions well. The dumplings were amazing. We got three different types and enjoyed them all. The scallion pancakes were flavorful. I got the changqing style chicken and it was amazing. It was quite spicy and very salty (I usually don't like salty foods but it hit the spot perfectly). I would highly recommend this dish if you like spicy. My family all decided to create their own entrees and none of them seemed to love it although all food was finished that night or as leftovers. I do recommend ordering off the menu though as my dish was one of the best that I've had. If I didn't live two hours away I would definitely be back. read more

Went here tonight for dinner and was SEVERELY disappointed. The hostess/waitress situation was horrendous. I have never walked into somewhere so poorly managed. We walked in for dinner at about 7pm and the tables were all dirty. When we finally had someone walk up to a table BESIDE us we ASKED for menus. Then proceeded to wait and wait then comes 20 minutes later and nobody had even taken our drink order. People walked out while we were waiting because they ran into the same situation. If I could give 0 stars I would. The food smelt great. But that's only if you wanna wait all night to be served or even acknowledged. Would not recommend. read more

Wow. Great meal. XLB a little thicker-skinned than, say, Din Tai Fung but tasty filling and broth. We were missing Schezuan boiled fish but they hit it out of the park with this one. Not shy with the peppercorn unlike some other local versions we have tried, and one major reason we love this mouth-tingling dish! Great service for lunch! We will absolutely be back.
