Go visit now!! My husband and I visited Miku twice in the last 2 weeks, and it's truly amazing. The 1st time we went, I got one of the vegetarian rolls with cream cheese and my husband got the beach boys sushi. We also got a miso soup & edamame which were good. My rolls were good but they were not my favorite. My husband absolutely loved his sushi rolls that he wanted to go back again. The 2nd time we visited, I got the green curry with tofu & my husband got The Beach Boys rolls again. This time, both of our meals were absolutely fantastic! The green curry was sooooooooooo good. Decided to revisit Miku after hearing about the recent shift in management, as I hadn't been there in ages, after enjoying them when they first opened, but then witnessing them slip over time in terms of portion size, value and quality. They are currently working on a new menu which is limited at the moment, but they did say they would be increasing the offerings over time, including bringing back lunch specials, which was a nice option at the original Miku. Started off with Miso soup, as while it is a basic dish, it is also an easy way to begin to separate the pretenders from the contenders. Unfortunately in this case, the natural subtle flavor of the miso was overwhelmed by the presence of an avalanche of green onions, to the point that I didn't eat more than two spoonfuls, the onions were all I could taste. Given that I believe in timely and actionable feedback, I did let them know and they did bring me another serving with no onions, but unfortunately I discovered that onions were simply masking a miso soup that just wasn't to my liking flavor wise, as it was the saltiest miso I had ever tasted, but everyone is different so your taste may vary. As far as the sushi goes, the nigiri was definitely the high point as the fish tasted fresh and of high quality, so kudos there for sure. When it comes to rolls, for me, it's all about substance over style, so the flavor and quality of the fish coupled with the consistency, correct quantity and taste of the rice determines whether a roll does it for me. The one roll I tried was on the smallish side which was typical of the previous Miku and the interior fish was sparse to the point where it was hard to gauge the flavor. The rice was also just kinda eh so overall the roll was there without much flavor or presence. No issues with service as the server was friendly and attentive and did a great job of checking in on me without being intrusive. They also did credit the $3 for the miso, but the $31 bill before tip for 1 sparsely populated roll and 3 single pieces of solid nigiri doesn't provide much of a lunchtime value, given all the various competitors in the marketplace at significantly lower price points for a similar quality lunch. I really want to like this place because it is so close to my house, but I can only do so much grading on a curve for proximity, so until I see a discernible improvement in overall value, I just can't justify a return trip, as the management may be new but there is much improvement that needs to occur before I can honestly say the change was for the better, so to be continued I guess.... read more

I had such a great time eating here with my son! We went out for "boys night." He loves fish and I had been dying to give this place a try. We were seated in a nice booth right away. The place was nicely decorated with flowers placed in recycled bottles. The whole place had a very comfortable vibe to it. Our sever was super attentive. My water glass was never empty for more than a few minutes! And the food was absolutely delicious. My son loved his butter noodles and insisted that I try it for myself. It was actually really tasty. I was in the area, so swung in to check out at least one of their sushi rolls... The roll that I chose was this Crunchy Crab Roll, which included Avocado, Cucumber, Spicy Crab and Shrimp Tempura. The roll tasted surprisingly light and healthy (despite the crunchy Shrimp Tempura!)...which I liked. However, I thought it was also a bit light on flavor (not that spicy either, despite the "Spicy Crab"). The presentation was also a bit of a yawn (sloppy, really...look how loose the rolls look!). Guess I liked, but didn't love it. Still, if I feel like eating light, I may resort to this again. I also had their Edamame on the side...and loved it. Unlike the sushi roll, this veggie was thoroughly flavored...VERY tasty! The map isn't accurate so I would recommend when you reach the destination, to look at what's around so you can find it. The place is pretty small. I was expecting high end and busy but I went on a weekday and it was pretty slow/empty. The staff are very nice and complimentary. The drink was good and price were good. The menu had a lot of different things on it but mainly a lot of sushi. I love the appetizer I got as I love raw sushi'. Would definitely recommend. The curry was delicious and the portion look big. Went to check out Miku tonight! We got three speciality rolls including the Panther roll, Salmon Supreme, and the Surf&Turf. We really loved the first two and liked the Surf&Turf just okay. That is my fault as my original thought was I don't love sushi so maybe steak on top would make it better but I ended up LOVING the fish on top more. Had a great dinner last night! Sat at the bar and made two new friends who enjoy Asian cuisine as well. The calamari and chicken wings were great. Green curry ordered spicy was very tasty. My wife got the Pad Thai which was served encased in a thin egg casing like higher end restaurants in Thailand do ( think Thipsamai in Bangkok). Enhances the flavor and great presentation. The new owners just took over this week and have a fairly broad menu for a soft opening week. Miku is in the old Island Thyme location. They've reupholstered the booths, swapped out the tables & tile on the walls and a very minimalist decor. Let's start w/the tables and being in a booth. They need to swap those out those curved tables may look nice but well what is a solid decor choice is a poor choice for seating. Unless you're sitting where it curves in the tables create a very tight fit where the curve is out. Servers should not be in the bar area w/in ear shot of patrons talking about patrons - restaurant 101 fail!! If an ingredient wasn't listed for one of the rolls and someone can't eat it and didn't figure it out until they ate a piece and asked for it to be taken off the bill, that doesn't mean you go to the sushi bar area and immediately start talking about the patron when they are sitting at the table in front of said bar. It wasn't me it was the table behind us and it was awful. Really enjoyed the Bang Bang shrimp. Wanted a little more dressing on the large garnish which added a bit of lightness. Had the Yellowtail roll and there was a pleasant brightness to it. Really enjoyed the food and we'll be back! read more

Had a taste for Hibachi and sushi so decided to stop in for lunch. The restaurant is newly opened so it was bit quiet when we got there around 12 and we were immediately greeted upon entry. This made for a relaxed atmosphere. There is ample seating on both sides of the restaurant, a bar, and outdoor patio seating. They have a nice variation of menu selections including Lunch Bento box options and Sushi lunch specials. We opted for the Teriyaki Strip Steak and Teriyaki Salmon bento boxes. The boxes offer plenty of food with steamed rice, miso soup, ginger salad, and two fried dumplings. We also order the 704 sushi roll. Our salmon and steak were slightly overcooked which we did bring to the waiters attention after we were done. He made sure the let the chef know. Where to start? My wife and I came in for the first time on a Saturday evening and it was busy but we were seated right away. The restaurant was loud and bustling and our waiter approached us, took our drink order and ran down some features for the evening. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and ordered when he returned. We ordered the baked mussels app to start and I went with the premium omakase nigiri, and an order of Japanese uni. My wife ordered a surf and turf roll and a crunchy crab roll. Here's where things went kind of south. After what seemed like waiting forever for the app to come out...everything came out all at once. I get it...it's busy...but the entire time we felt rushed. We wanted to sit and have a nice meal course by course and boom...here it is. I also never received my miso soup and house salad which I would've liked to enjoy in between the app and mains. I brought it to the waiters attention and when the bill came he discounted it 10% which was a nice thing to do to make up for it.He had a lot of tables and was extremely busy running around the dining room. He did his best but because he had so many tables I feel like the attentiveness wasn't there which again took away from the dining experience. As for the food, we enjoyed it for the most part. The baked mussels were pretty good and my wife really enjoyed her sushi rolls. As far as the nigiri it was a little small and quality wise just a little above average. Based on what I had seen of the pictures on Yelp I had high expectations and it just came up short. The best part of the meal was the Uni...absolutely delicious. A new Japanese restaurant opened on Ardrey Kell Road, called Miku. They offer a large menu of sushi and cooked food, making it a great spot to go when you want sushi, but not everyone in your group eats it. Let me be clear, you can absolutely get higher quality sushi elsewhere in Charlotte; however, Miku offers an exceptional value - balancing cost with quality and the experience - plus the hot food menu will appeal to a wide audience. Anyway, I started with 3 shareable plates: The Crispy Tuna was crispy yet tender, and I liked the use of the pepper threads. The Pork Gyoza had great texture - but a little green onion would have perfected them. The Tori Karaage was delicious. The chicken was tender, and coated in a very light and crispy batter. Next up was sushi. I tried the Tuna Tataki Roll, The Crunchy Crab Roll, and the Hawaiian Roll. They were all solid, but my favorite was the Hawaiian - the sweet mango was a perfect compliment to the lobster. I wouldn't call The Premium Nigiri Omakase an omakase, but to get a roll and chefs choice of 12 pieces of nigiri for $35, which included otoro and salmon belly, is an insane value. The Chirasi also felt like a great value for $37. It was good, but it was honestly the presentation that got me. For non-sushi entrees, the Teriyaki Steak was a good choice and came out sizzling on the plate. My favorite dish of the night though was the the Tonkotsu Ramen. The pork chasu was tender and flavorful. The egg was super jammy. And the broth was light and creamy, with delicate citrus notes. It was a very tasty. All in all, the team did a great job. If you want the highest quality available, I'll recommend somewhere else - but if you want a satisfying meal, that will appeal to wide audience, without breaking the bank, you should give Miku a try. : @andrewloves_ read more
