I never noticed this place when I drive through Stewart and Gray but I'm glad I found this restaurant when I was looking for food on Uber eats. I ordered chicken chow mein noodles, pineapple fried rice with chicken, and spicy basil a la carte as well. I was very surprised at how delicious the spicy basil with chicken was because at first sight I have to admit I didn't think I was going to like it but boy was I wrong. This place is hands down my favorite thai place in LA! Every time I come down to LA I make sure I go to this place when I can. Everything I've got in the menu has been great. I love Thai food, it's one of the few cuisines that gets replicated authentically in the US, having been to Thailand I've leaned that in general it's pretty hard to mess up Thai food, but aside from the crispy pork and fried appetizers I was very dissatisfied with the taste of the pad Thai and pad see ew. The noodles were over cooked and lacked any real flavor the pad Thai was also disappointing and lacked any real spice. It's definitely catered to American palettes. With so many Asian stores around, the choice of vegetables should be more open. The Lad Na itself was bland. Calamari: don't order it. Just don't. I wish I would have taken a picture of the fluff. It was literally breaded in a thick coat of flour and tossed in the deep fryer. There was more greasy breading than there was squid. Also, it comes with breaded and fried veggies. It's a little small diner, calm scenery and wonderful employees. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and omgoodness! DELICIOUS! Was craving Thai over the weekend so decided to order a few dishes from here and most of them were pretty decent. We ordered Fried Calamari, the Lemon Garlic Fish, Shrimp Fried Rice, Combination Chow Mein, Tom Kha (coconut soup) and Mango & Sweet Sticky Rice for dessert. The Calamari was decent. I would have liked the breading to have more crunch. The calamari was slightly chewier than normal. Not something I'd order again. The Garlic and Lemon Fish dish was ok. The fish had a nice flavor, but the texture was a bit off. Seemed a bit undercooked to me. The Shrimp Fried Rice was definitely my favorite item. The rice had a slightly sweet aftertaste which I enjoyed. The shrimp was a bit overcooked, but deveined. This is probably the only dish I would order again from here. Out of our whole order the one item I picked was the Combination Chow Mein (well, entree. I picked the soup and dessert too heh heh). Too bad because it was a big let down. The noodles tasted and looked old and the beef that came with the noodles was small, chewy and overall unappetizing. That's what I get for ordering a Chinese dish at a Thai Restaurant! The Tom Kha was tasty, but hardly had anything in it besides the broth. I was the second person to have some and there was only one small mushroom and a shrimp in my bowl. The broth was also slightly more lemony than I would have liked. The mango sweet sticky rice was ok. The rice was sweet, but way too sticky. The texture was kind of like how oatmeal gets when it gets cold. The taste was good though. The mango was just warm mango. Not for me. At another place I once had this dish with warm sweet sticky rice and mango sorbet on top and that was great. I think that's a better combo though this may be more traditional. I have gone to this Thai restaurant for over 7 years, i have gotten to know the owners and servers for the same time over the years. I am appalled the posting that Yang S. And Yelp has kept this post up. As a chef, this kind of false posting hurts the community and is negative to the business and hurts the financial commitment to the community and is derogative and FALSE!! I have been to this restaurant over 50 times and is one of my favorite authentic flavors of Thailand and they have Asian flavors for the locals of all age groups. She got the food delivered from POSTMATES.COM delivery service, the owners said she called back to the restaurant and wanted her $30 back. The restaurant said bring the left over food back, and they would be happy to refund the $30 back for the food. That is a responsible restaurant!! Not a business falling for a SCAM!! Stopped by to get some lunch and received a stank attitude from one of the servers. She walked past my daughter and I twice upon entering like we were invisible. If I had a choice regardless of convenience and location I'd be getting Thai food in Cerritos but Sizzling Thai is closer to me. Their Thai bbq lunch special with shrimp fried rice is a few more dollars more than a Thai bbq lunch special served in Cerritos. They redecorated the restaurant from the older days when the restaurant was a hole in the wall with an aquarium and plain white walls. Nowadays the decor is more lively but table placement is a little odd. It's a small place to begin with and the tables are close to one another. Lunch specials are served with soup, salad, rice, and wonton chips. The salad dressing was really good. It was this slightly sweet creamy dressing. Pad Thai is decent. Their Pad Thai is neon orange. I prefer Pad Thai when it's pale yellow/light tamarind brown. I've never cooked Pad Thai but the neon orange of the Pad Thai just makes it seem fake or unauthentic. Tasty, but I'm still unsure whether neon orange Pad Thai comes from premade sauces or ketchup. Yellow curry is decent. Panang is good. But then again curries are always good. Pad see ew has gotten better over the years. Almost about 10 years ago, their pad see ew would be inconsistent with some pieces of noodles still stuck together and hardly seasoned and other pieces of noodles highly seasoned. They've been cooking Pad See Ew more evenly though. When I asked for a box to pack my leftover Pad Thai the lady took my plate and packed it to go herself. It was in a mini styrofoam container that was flimsy and had opened and spilled from noodles from the container into the plastic bag that it was in simply from me carrying it from the restaurant to my car and from my car to my house. They're not bad but they're not amazing. Conveniently right in the middle of Downey, they're probably a first choice for Thai food compared to Thai places in the outskirts of Downey. Stopped by for dinner today. Nothing spectacular about the exterior but the decor inside is warm and inviting. Very modern and romantic too! Since it was our first time - we obviously had to try out the basics! We ordered a Pad Thai and Beef Pad See Ew. The Pad See Ew was so good!! Everything was seasoned well and the beef was tender. The Pad Thai was OK. It wasn't all that bad but it was strangely more orange than I'd normally like. Like, a weird orange. But the service was great and the ambience was nice. They even made our side of rice into the shape of a heart!! That definitely deserves a second chance. :) Nonetheless - I'll be coming back to try some other dishes. The BBQ chicken was average. The BBQ beef was good but only a tiny tiny piece of it :( The fried rice was nothing special either. Now the won ton soup tasted....celery like. The soup had a very strong celery flavor that was very over powering, more over powering than even eating the celery bits in the soup. I don't know if that's normal or the chef had an off day but it wasn't very good. As for Pad Thai, all of their pad Thai dishes are pretty good so they save themselves there. Take this review with a grain of salt. We did not eat at the restaurant; we ordered take-out. Between the two of us, we ordered an appetizer and two entrees. The beef Pad Thai was mediocre, which was not a good sign. (I've found that Thai places that make fantastic Pad Thai make other dishes well.) We also ordered the roast duck curry, which again was mediocre. I will note that the Four Seasons appetizer was pretty delicious. It was a collection of 4 different fried foods -- wontons, egg rolls, etc. And I appreciate that they packed it in a styrofoam box with holes to prevent the steam from making the food soggy. +1 for that.
