The food was pretty good but not the best Indian I've had. We got an order of samosas, chicken tikka masala, paneer korma, and butter naan. The flavors were good but the chicken and the paneer were a little chewy. Same with the naan - the texture wasn't quite right. We called in a pickup order and we ordered something off of the menu they had posted online. They informed us that the menu wasn't going into effect until the end of the month, which was a shame. Simha Indian Kitchen & Bar is a new restaurant in downtown Providence. It is where the Barnaby's used to be located, so it retains some of the previous set-up. The restaurant is open and has an upscale Indian vibe. It was a nice spot for a date night The menu has a lot of offerings, even some fusion dishes that sounded really interesting. They also had a specials menu. The drinks list was extensive; their cocktails are creative, including their mocktails too. I tried the lychee martini which was good and not sweet which I enjoyed--would have liked a little more lychee flavor though. My husband got one of the mocktails which was refreshing. We tried a bunch of appetizers (wings, Indian fries, and kebab) as well as the baingan bharta which is a delicious eggplant dish. It came with rice. Spice level was good. Next time we want to try more entrees. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They checked in on us often and made sure our water glasses were always filled. Prices are reasonable. We definitely plan to return to try more items! read more

I only ordered the naan bread as a little treat after dinner. I got the garlic naan and butter naan along with the onion chutney. The bread itself was nice and soft however the toppings were not great. If you like straight up garlic, I guess that's what it is lol, but it definitely needed something to go along with it. I love garlic but something about it was too garlicky or maybe even the garlic wasn't cooked enough? The butter naan didn't have any butter on it, it was literally just plain. The onion chutney wasn't great either. I absolutely love onions but this just wasn't it for me. Even the garlic naan dipped in the onion chutney didn't make it any better. I wouldn't order again. Maybe their actual food is good but the naan definitely isn't. read more

This is easily the best Indian restaurant I've visited, and among the best restaurants I've tried in general. I was blown away. Everything was extremely fresh like it had just been cooked with fresh ingredients too. The tikka masala was more flavorful than the saag wala but both were so enjoyable. They had deep flavors and were not too salty. The naan was also so warm and soft as it had just been made. We especially loved the garlic naan bites with big chunks of garlic. This restaurant did not hold back. Everything seemed made with care. The staff were also friendly and helpful, and the food came out quickly. The food was reasonably priced. Everything about the decor was beautiful as well. I honestly can't recommend this place enough! read more

Having read some good reviews about the place and the food we decided to try Simha for the first time. Located downtown the place with a long bar looked inviting with dining tables arranged at a reasonable distance apart. The ceiling, a leftover from the last restaurant, is attractive. The four of us ordered a variety of dishes to share, and drinks; mango lassis, and a couple of drinks. We started with papad and a generous portion of pakoras. For the mains we had butter chicken, shrimp curry, coriander mint lamb chops (tasty), mutter paneer, raita and a bread basket. The food was quite good, although the sauces were very similar. We were seated by just after 7pm with only two other tables occupied. Other people arrived after us and were served before us. Indeed it took them an hour before we got our food! Far too long. The service was pleasant but could have been better. Normally we would have Indian food in our Eastside neighborhood and decided that we would stick with a couple of the restaurants there, which have better food and more convenient parking. The restaurant was comparably priced to the others. I am glad to have been here, but I am not sure whether we will dine here again. read more

We came with a large party and Simha was very welcoming, helpful with the menu, and the food was all delicious. We each ordered items to different spice levels and we felt that they delivered well on customized spice levels. The lunch combo was nice and felt like a good price for the amount of food you got. The only small critique I'd have is that as a vegetarian, I wish there were just a couple more options (they did have two) for the lunch bowl. Other than that, everything was great! I'd definitely return. Oh and the restaurant was decorated well, which was nice because the other Indian places we've been to in the area aren't quite as fancy. read more

Ordered to go spicy Lamb Vindaloo and vegetable samosas. I frequently eat the same dish at different restaurants. The Vindaloo was not bad tasting, but the one star is for the severe heartburn and indigestion that succeeded the meal. Typically heartburn happens when the ingredients are not fresh and create high acidity level. I could not eat dinner and just felt bad most of the night. The samosa also was not bad tasting, but the chutney I did not like at all. It tasted as if there's dairy or cream in the chutney, which I've never seen in any other restaurant. Needless to say, will be ordering elsewhere moving forward. read more

We ordered takeout from this place. We got the gobhi garlic, chicken tikka, dal makhani and aloo gobhi. The chicken tikka was the only dish that was good. The dal makhani had too much cream and there wasn't enough flavor in the aloo gobhi. The gobhi pieces in the gobhi garlic were too large, and the batter didn't hold together. We requested all dishes to be prepared at a medium spice level. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. I usually enjoy good Indian food, but this fell below my expectations. read more

A group of us had dinner at Simha last night before going to see a show. Their cocktail list was so fun and innovative (the lychee martini was a favorite). We shared a few apps, all of which were delicious and made to order. We ordered an array of main dishes, ALL of which were fantastic. My favorites were the saag paneer and the biryani (go low spice on it bc whew ). Service was wonderful. All I can say is I am sad I don't live in Providence so I could visit Simha more often! read more

Came here based on a friend's recommendation, and we are so thankful we did! The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and our server quickly seated us and was very polite and attentive. The briar kebabs weee phenomenal and flavorful without being too heavy, and the pakoras surpassed our expectations. For our meals, the lamb shank was super tender, and the Rogan Josh sauce was both spicy and flavorful. The Hakka noodles were well prepared and equally filling and savory. Our only regret was we were too full to order dessert! We will definitely be coming back in the future. Some of the best Indian food we've ever had in Providence!! read more

New spot, just recently opened. I went as part of a large party. Nice, wide menu covering a variety of regions. Food was good. Service was mixed. They asked about the addition of cilantro to an appetizer that was being served to the entire table, in 3 portions, a friend sitting next to me said she liked cilantro which was misheard, she got a non-cilantro serving of everything she ordered, throughout the meal, despite correcting multiple servers that she wanted/liked cilantro. Obviously, they have growing pains. My only other observation was my usual go to for spice heat in a restaurant I don't know is medium and that's how I ordered my main course. I appreciate that they offer heat variants. It was much less spicy than expected. It seemed more like a mild than a medium. That said, the spice mix was very well done and it was a tasty meal. Overall, I'll be back... but I'll wait a couple of months. read more

We had a great pre-theater dinner at Simha Indian Kitchen & Bar before going to PPAC. It's a beautiful restaurant with dark wood, lovely tiled ceiling and impressive bar. We started with their vegetable pakoras and samosas. Wonderful! For our meal we had Chicken Ghee Roast and their Royal Biryani with vegetables only, and garlic naan. We chose to have everything made at a medium spice level and it was just enough to warm us up. We added their Mint Paneer Tikka at the last minute and were so glad we did. We will definitely be back. We ran out of time and missed their fresh made chai tea and Kashmiri naan stuffed with fruit and nuts. read more

This is my first time in providence and I was craving indian food. I was a little skeptical because I only saw one review but I'm glad I didn't let that stop me. I ordered the vindaloo chicken and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy and just overall amazing. I paired it with some garlic naan that was just perfect. My boyfriend ordered the chicken shawarma and just melted when it touched his mouth. The customer service was just so amazing and so was the ambiance. Our dinner was just perfect. I have never posted a yelp review before. This restaurant was so amazing that I just had to post a review now. I heard about Simha yesterday, looked up their menu (which I found quite tantalizing) and went to eat there with my mother and a friend last night. The interior is cozy and the staff was friendly and eager. The menu is quite large and a bit overwhelming so perhaps they will pare it down in time. Everything sounded so good that it was difficult to decide. We started out by sharing the Samosa Chaat. It was exquisite. The menu description doesn't do it justice. It came out beautifully presented with so many layers of flavor. A crispy and delicious Samosa was the base for the chaat which had the perfect amount of spice and heat. It was balanced with cooling flavors on top. I was able to discern some very finely chopped tomato and onion, a drizzle of yogurt, and a drizzle of tamarind chutney. The dish was topped with these very fine crispy bits that were flavorful and added a beautiful textural component. A scattering of some pomegranate seeds was the perfect tart sweet finish that complemented the chutneys. I ordered the Saag Wala with chicken. The Chicken was moist and tender and the spinach sauce had incredible flavor. Our dishes came with perfectly fluffy and fragrant Basmati rice. My friend ordered the butter chicken. The sauce was different than expected with a sweet and tangy element yet still delicious. We actually ended up spooning both sauces over our chicken and rice and loved them even more together. Although we were all a bit full, we couldn;t pass up on dessert. Sadly they were out of the cannolis filled with saffron infused ricotta however our second choice was so delicious that we forgot about our disappointment quickly. We shared the Galub Jamun Cheesecake. The cheesecake was rich and not too sweet which was perfect because the galub jamun "crust" balanced out the sweetness perfectly. I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough. See you there as we will definitely be repeat customers. read more
