Simha Indian Kitchen & Bar is a new restaurant in downtown Providence. It is where the Barnaby's used to be located, so it retains some of the previous set-up. The restaurant is open and has an upscale Indian vibe. It was a nice spot for a date night The menu has a lot of offerings, even some fusion dishes that sounded really interesting. They also had a specials menu. The drinks list was extensive; their cocktails are creative, including their mocktails too. I tried the lychee martini which was good and not sweet which I enjoyed--would have liked a little more lychee flavor though. My husband got one of the mocktails which was refreshing. We tried a bunch of appetizers (wings, Indian fries, and kebab) as well as the baingan bharta which is a delicious eggplant dish. It came with rice. Spice level was good. Next time we want to try more entrees. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They checked in on us often and made sure our water glasses were always filled. Prices are reasonable. We definitely plan to return to try more items!

Great food--service was prompt and attentive, food came quickly. Ambiance is fit for a date night or family dinner. They also have a significant non-alcoholic cocktail section, which I didn't try on this visit but was happy to see!

5 enthusiastic stars for GREAT Indian delivery food that was very vegetarian-friendly!…read more We were ordering in and the reviews had us convinced that India Restaurant was the way to go. Things we loved: - the naan is LEGIT. And the order came with a very hefty amount of it. - veggie and tofu biryani: I put a note for it to be mild and it was! The star of this dish (other than the perfect rice and sauce) were the little raisins or currants that gave the perfect sweet surprise in many bites. - masala curry with tofu: Again, I requested mild and it was mild. My esophagus thanks them! This came over a bed of rice and the rich sauce was so delicious that we used the naan to sop it all up at the end. No scraps or crumbs left behind! Truly this was a great Indian meal. Though I wish we would've been able to eat at the restaurant, the delivery was faultless and the food traveled very well.

I honestly liked the lamb biryano a lot. I wish they had other samosas too though unless I'm wrong and it only comes with potatoes. Hot sauce was Masala yummy Drinks could have been better to me. I'm a bartender that's a curse! Maybe I'm just picky. Overall service was great i hope it turnneed out well for our server at the end.

They don't have a parking lot, but they are located on Thayer St so lots of street parking to choose from. Since we went after 6 pm, street parking was free. The inside looks just like how I remembered it. We were seated on their first floor (they do have a second) towards the back so it felt very private. We could catch a glimpse of outside from the windows but most of it was obstructed by a wallpaper which was a shame. I was craving something sweet but hearty so I ordered us some cauliflower 65 as an appetizer. For drinks we just stuck to the water they gave us. The cauliflower 65 was good. It was sweet and a tiny bit spicy. The cauliflower was very soft. But I do wish the cauliflower would have kept more of its crunch from the batter. I couldn't decide on what I wanted as an entree so their special was perfect. I forgot the name of it but it's essentially a plate with rice, 4 different main dishes in small portions, a sauce, and naan bread. What I didn't like was that since the sides came in such small portions, the food cooled down very fast so I felt like I was racing against time. Also, I would have gladly paid an extra $1 to be able to select a topping for my naan. Without anything on it, it tastes too plain and kind of a waste of calories. The tandoori chicken was a bit dry but flavorful. Besides these, everything else was good. The flavors were good, the portion size was good, and customer service was also good.

The prices are reasonable, so are the portions and the flavors always kick in the best ways! If you're looking for a no-frills, cozy and delicious place to try, I say don't skip out on Not Just Snacks. Our favorite appetizers are hands down the pani puri, honey and ginger naan, tandoori and beef kebab. The pani puri is an interactive experience, where you hollow out the shells and fill them up with ground chickpeas and spicy sauce - very flavorful and fun! The honey and ginger naan is great to cut down on spicy dishes but eating it alone is dangerous - it's too dang good! I loved the tandoori chicken, a super flavorful thigh w/crispy skin. The beef kebab was just as tasty, packed with all kinds of spices that make it a winner in my book. Now, that was just the apps! Quite consistently, I always always always order the lamb (or beef) vindaloo. I have to warn you that this dish is certainly not for the weak - spice lovers only! The tender chunks of meat pair quite well in the pool of spice, potatoes and my favorite, chilis. There is an option to pair the vindaloo with rice or naan, with my heart devoted to the former. To put in perspective how spicy the lamb vindaloo is, you'll likely need refills upon refills of water. Nonetheless, if you can REALLY handle heat, the vindaloo is made for you. I alter between lamb and beef, depending on the mood. This time around I tried the shrimp dopiaza and wheat roti. The shrimp entree was quite sweet, with 5 shrimps total. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of anything wheat, hence the roti ranked lower on my scale. Overall, Not Just Snacks holds a special place in my heart (and stomach). The family that serves us is always friendly, especially the younger gentleman. The chef often comes out to check up on us and I believe that's a very kind gesture. The woman as well always greets us with a smile.

The bar itself is dramatic, a wall of bottles backed by bold red shelves. It all adds up to a room that feels like someone put real thought into every corner. We ordered the Ginger Turmeric Martini, which is made with Citron Vodka on the menu but we swapped in ISCO Gin; a substitution the bartender handled without hesitation. He mentioned he adds a tiny pinch of salt to some cocktails to brighten them up, a small detail, but the kind that tells you they actually think about what they're making. The drinks were served in cut crystal coupe glasses with a small edible flower floating on top, and they tasted as good as they looked. For food, we went with the Chili Cauliflower and the Dal Makhani. The cauliflower came out crispy in all the right ways, each floret holding its texture under a sticky, lightly sweet heat with a bit of tamarind that shines right through; tangy, a little smoky, deeply savory. The Dal Makhani was exceptional. The lentils were cooked with real intention, not reduced to mush but offering just a slight pop, and the overall flavor was rich and complex in a way that made it hard to put the naan down. Speaking of which, the garlic naan (sans cilantro, seeing as my partner has the gene where it tastes like soap) arrives charred and pillowy in equal measure, loaded with bits of fresh garlic. The service matched everything else. We were greeted warmly, and the staff genuinely seemed interested in getting to know us rather than just moving us through. That kind of rapport is rare and, when you find it, you notice. A spot we love to visit whenever we are in the area, and for good reason.
