Cilanter is nothing to look at from the outside (or really inside for that matter). However, the staff were friendly and made sure that I was well taken care of. You order at the kiosk and they prepare your food and call your name when it's ready. I ordered the saag with potatoes and the gentleman also gave me a complimentary pink dessert. I've had Indian food all around the world and always love ordering saag. When I tell you this was one of the BEST saags I've ever had I'm not lying. Quite honestly it was incredible. The spinach was blended very well, it was incredibly creamy, and there were even some chunks of onions and peppers throughout. The potatoes practically melted in my mouth but still had enough bite to contrast the creamy saag. The meal was spiced perfectly and offered a multitude of complex flavors. The portions were enormous. They definitely gave me enough rice and curry for atleast two meals. If this was the quality of one of their dishes I'm excited to try out more of their options! I did go at 3pm and I was the only person in there, so I'm sure that had some effect on the quality of food. This time, I really got a feel for pairings and selecting my toppings, sauces, and spices. It's an Indian food bowl and after reading over the menu, I got my kind of bowl i wanted. This place can accommodate to vegan eaters, or just a non meat kind of day choices. Came back to try again after the event to try out a different type of bowl. This time I was more prepared on what to expect because I've had it before and I read the list of sauce and sides listed up above which I did not notice It's a small chipotle style Indian Mexican fusion restaurant where you can pick and choose what you want on a bowl. This time I ordered the chipotle chicken bowl, mini samosas and cold chai latte. I wanted to try the steak but was not ready and didn't have time to wait at the moment. I really liked the bowl this time more so than last time because I knew better what I wanted in my bowl. My personal favorite combo was chipotle chicken with saffron rice, sides, guacamole, spicy sauce and tahini sauce. Very flavorful but still healthy and doesn't feel heavy. Mini samosa was great as I remembered. It's a must try when you come here. I think it's best I had around all the Indian places I've tried at. Cold chai latte was okay. Similar to mango lassi I tried last time I think it's a bit too strong spice flavors for me personally. Service was good like last time but still it's kind of difficult to understand sometimes because of thick accent but it's part of the experience. I highly recommend you spend time to read the menu and list of sides/ sauce up above to check what you want before you place your order. Maybe they were just having an off day: flavorless chicken, gummy roti/wrap, bland rice. They were out of several menu items, including some sauces and toppings, and most of the ingredient containers behind the glass were empty. I tried cilanter for the first time and loved it. When I walked in, I noticed it was exceptionally clean and I felt really welcomed by the employee. He was also very kind to explain the process of ordering a bowl and what each topping was. I ultimately built a very diverse and colorful bowl and it tasted amazing. There were savory flavors, sweet flavors, garlicky notes, and I was able to try each of the rices they had so it gave it that much more flavor. I would definitely come back and try a different bowl. Just what I needed at the end of a long day! They had a several rices to choose from, including Saffron Rice and turmeric rice. There were a bunch of toppings that worked really well together, including a cabbage and carrot mix, corn, cilantro, onions and some add ins for extra. For $10.95 for a bowl, I thought it was a decent portion (the same size as your average Chipotle bowl) and the flavors were spot on. You can choose your sauce at the end depending on the flavor profile you're going for (sweet and smoky, refreshing minty, etc) and I had enough to split into two different portions. After spending a long day at a nearby convention, I headed over to the busy area of Federal Hill for dinner takeout and decided to stop by Cilanter, formerly Tacos On The Hill, Greenapple, and King Kabobs. Cilanter is a modern Indian fusion serving up similar dishes/items as its predecessor including bowls, burritos, salads, and tacos,  but with its own spin on the ingredients, proteins, and fillings. Rice choices include saffron rice, curried lemon rice and quinoa & rice khichdi. The protein choices include chicken tikka, chicken masala, malai steak, lentil makhni, and tandoori tofu. Veggie choices include fajita peppers, purple cabbage salad, chopped lettuce, desi cucumber salad, chopped cilantro, chopped onions, mustard pickled veggies, and fried chillies. Dressing choices include mint cucumber raita, kashmiri chilli, mango vinaigrette, tangy tamrind, coconut chutney, and lemon pepper tahini. I placed an online order after I found a parking spot on the street near Cilanter. I ordered 2 Bowls including the Chicken Tikka Bowl ($9.95 plus tax) and a Tofu Bhurji Bowl ($11.95 plus tax). I also used the coupon code on the menu page for $5 off $20+ order. After ordering and paying online, I could see my order slip pop up from behind the counter and staff began prepping my food immediately. My order was all set and packed in about 7 minutes and they gave free samples of their mini bite size samosas with my order. The bowls were heavy and loaded with plenty of my requested fillings rice, and proteins similar to Chipotle bowls, but with mostly Indian fusion ingredients. I barely finished one bowl and enjoyed the other bowl the next day. The flavors were spot on and very fresh. The mini samosas were one bite each filled with mashed chick peas. I would definitely stop by again for more Indian fusion food. read more

Just tried Cilanter for lunch for the first time and WoW was I impressed! It's an amazing, flavorful option and different from the regular lunch options. I recommend the curried lemon rice bowl with chickpeas or the tofu bhurji bowl. I also ordered the mini samosas (8) which were so delicious, I think I could have eaten multiple orders! They are served with a side of tamarind sauce. You can pick two different sauces and I opted for the mint yogurt and a cilantro sauce. Both were amazing and helped cool the palate for the kick of spice that happens ever so often while eating from the roasted peppers I chose to add to the top. It was delicious but a treat for sure since it was about $18 with tip and I didn't even order a drink. The mango lassi looked really good, maybe I'll get that one next time! This place is such a hidden gem. It was my first time there and the man behind the counter explained everything to me with the biggest smile on his face. He recommended I get the garlic and an Indian sweet and sour style sauce for my chicken tikka bowl and it was fantastic. It's like an Indian Chipotle (but so much better than Chipotle)! I got the bite sized samosas, and tamarin sauce for dipping which were amazing. To drink, I purchased the mango lassi which was so creamy and smooth. Every meal comes with a free chai tea as well! There's enough food in this bowl for me to eat it for lunch tomorrow too and I'm honestly so excited to eat it again. I'm already adding this place to my food rotation. I made my second visit to cilanter this past weekend and one again it was magnificent! I had a bowl with the quinoa/rice base and half tofu half chickpeas for the protein. I added a few toppings and have had two full meals of this bowl along with the addition of some greens I braised and roasted vegetables. I can't wait to go back again!! read more
