The star of this dish (other than the perfect rice and sauce) were the little raisins or currants that gave the perfect sweet surprise in many bites. - masala curry with tofu: Again, I requested mild and it was mild. My esophagus thanks them! This came over a bed of rice and the rich sauce was so delicious that we used the naan to sop it all up at the end. No scraps or crumbs left behind! Place was very accommodating with seating. I felt bad for making reservations and we were initially seated inside but we preferred outside since my friends came from CT i wanted them to see the nice outside. They were nice about it. I honestly liked the lamb biryano a lot. I wish they had other samosas too though unless I'm wrong and it only comes with potatoes. Hot sauce was Masala yummy Drinks could have been better to me. Came here first for a Yelp Elite event and liked it so much that I knew it would be safe to bring my Indian family here haha. We got the Vegetarian Appetizer Platter (vegetable samosas, papri chaat, kale cucumber salad), Naan Basket (Fresh Minced Garlic, Fresh Ginger & Honey, Tulsi (Basil Pesto), Onion & Cilantro, Spicy Chili Cilantro, Hot & Spicy Vindaloo), and Saag Paneer. I attended a Yelp dinner event at India Restaurant and was impressed from start to finish. The location is convenient and the spacious back room comfortably hosted around 75 guests without feeling crowded. Came here for a yelp event! It was my first time having Indian food in over a decade. My food choices are usually bland and boring because I can't handle any spice at all. We enjoy India Restaurant. It's our favorite RI spot for Indian food. They also often have free Henna available there! You can sit inside at the bar, they have booths, standard tables, as well as outdoor seating. It's a nice place without being ostentatious. The staff are courteous. We always get the same things when we go: -Mirchi margarita (spicy and delicious!) -Steamed mussels appetizer -Garlic naan (you HAVE to order this when you get the mussels. Do NOT let that broth go to waste!) -Lamb tikka masala This is usually enough to satisfy 2 adults. Overall: The food was very good, but the service was a touch rushed. The lamb chops and potatoes were very good and the portion size was just right. We also shared the mango beef -- flavorful, not too sweet or salty. It was our favorite dish of the night. The naan was perfect. My only gripe was that we asked for an indoor table and were sat next to the open door leading to the outdoor seating. I do love India and was excited to have lunch there today. I used to get take out from here weekly but after losing my job, I had to cut out takeout from budget. I had a gift card and a friend to join me for lunch. I got the lunch special and iced tea. We had three lunch specials, appetizers, and three nonalcoholic beverages. The lunch special is a great deal! I had the Chana masala lunch special which was tasty and the naan and tomato soup are always good. When the check I didn't look at it and gave them the gift card. They came back over and said they forgot to add the drinks to the bill so just processed it for the new amount. Lowkey that is fine, obviously we should pay for what we ordered. I bring all my friends who visit here, the food is always on point! They have a pretty outdoor patio seating area for those warm spring or summer days. Or you sit in a cozy booth inside. They even have a fireplace in one area. My favorites are the Saag Paneer and the Chicken Tikka Masala but pretty much everything I've had has been good. For apps I recommend Papri Chaat ( Indian nachos) they are crunchy, tangy and creamy with tamarind chutney and a minty yogurt sauce. The Aloo Tiki (a pan fried potato patty) topped with cilantro sauce and chutney is also delicious. They have great lunch specials where you get a massive plate of food including a main course, rice, naan, salad, soup and a dessert. Their brunch is also excellent - you can try from an array of different dishes served together on a platter. Be prepared for leftovers! Service has always been very friendly and quick. read more

Didn't make a mistake with India Restaurant (although they could use a better name). I went all in on spice and got the chicken curry vindaloo and hot & spicy vindaloo naan bread. WHAT?! Read that again. It was freaking amazing. I may have been dying from the heat but I'll take the pain of the amazing flavor from this bread any day. Yesterday two of us went to India (that is the restaurant, not the country) and as usual ordered too much, anticipating that we would inevitably take some food home. We were seated at a booth, a little tight but comfortable. We ordered cocktails which we don't usually do. My companion had a chai-tini and I had anew Delhi Nectar. Both were delicious. We also had soda water which many restaurants don't charge, but here they do. For food we had karahi ghost with wild rice - a good and delicious choice - the chicken sheesh kabob with potatoes (avoiding kale), mutter paneer and naan. All the dishes were excellent. Thiese were accompanied by raita, and mixed pickle. We like the places' decor better than any of the other Indian restaurants in RI. Our server, Olga I believe, was cheerful, helpful and attentive - making our experience more enjoyable. The check came to $125, more than usual but we took enough of it home for another meal. We will be back, which we do every two or three months. read more

Whilst looking in the area for possible spots to check out throughout visiting RI, I immediately bookmarked the "India Restaurant". Mainly basing on looks, favorites dishes, and menu prices. Parking isn't the best so expect to circle around the "triangle" til you find a spot. Super narrow hallway to enter and also used as an exit. We were given the options of bar seating or outdoor seating since we didn't have any reservations. We chose the bar. Bartender was very nice and friendly. She multitasked with drinks, served out meals, and checked on us. My sister and I ordered familiar dishes. We skipped on naan bread and samosas. That's hard for me because I got to have naan at least with my curries. So we wanted to give it a try plus our dishes were $20.49 each. About $3-$5 more than our norm. Thankfully it included rice and generous portion. We both found our meals to be sort of bland. She got mild and mine was mild/medium spiced. I found myself reaching for salt but only garam masala and spicy chili shakers were available at reach. It was nice to see a switch up from the normal salt and pepper. Salt would have helped our meals. We decided to finish our meals halfway and pack it up. Beautiful restaurant and very clean inside. Restroom was impressive with the all in one sink, cleanliness and thoughtfulness of mouth wash. India is part of our 'regular' restaurant rotation. We always get lamb curry of one type or another. Our most recent visit was very disappointing and we hope it's a fluke. As the weather is nice the front wall is open to the front patio letting in the warm weather. We sat inside and they had the aircon blowing. The front patio is seperated from the sidewalk by a wall. The host pointed us to a table to sit at and then brought menu's over. A waitress came by, said something we didn't catch and asked what we wanted. We hadn't decided and she took a drink order. The drinks never arrived. A waiter showed up and asked if we'd like to order a drink. We explained the above, he didn't seem surprised and took care of it. We also ordered food. The lamb in both our dishes was very fatty. We both got tired of fighting for our food, trying to cut around the fat and removing the fatty bits we couldn't chew. I gave up and just left mine behind. Went to dinner with my mom at 6:00/6:30 on a Monday night and it had a decent amount of people there, but this place had plenty of space (indoor and outdoor seating) to accommodate and the service does NOT lack because of it :) We ordered the Naan with onion and cilantro topping which was so good and honestly was my favorite part of the meal. I dipped it in the lemon-cilantro chutney, that came with my entree, and it got even better somehow. I got the chicken sheesh kabob (3 kabobs) with came with kale salad, chutney, and basmati rice. The chicken was great and perfectly seasoned. It came with some roasted onions and peppers and grilled pineapple on the kabob as well. Wasn't a fan of the kale salad, but I don't like kale so don't take my word for it. My mom, however, loved the salad! The other entree was tandoori chicken which comes with kale salad, chutney, and she chose zesty potatoes. I thought the potatoes were okay, cooked perfectly though. My mom loved the potatoes, so it's all preference. The tandoori chicken was great as well. It has 1 chili pepper next to it on the menu but it really isn't hot at all. I love this place. The ambiance is inviting and their outdoor seating is a plus, where you can sit in the covered patio and overlook the park. The menu is varied and the food is always fresh. Service can sometimes be slow when they are busy but that's understandable. I enjoy trying the different cocktails, especially the one made with Jalapeños. A local institution. This place attracted my attention because of their Diwali specials. Those were apparently mostly for dinner and I stopped in for lunch, but nonetheless was treated to a robust thali. A single platter included not only an entrée but soup, dessert, salad, rice and bread. A ginger chai delivered a fresh sheet of ginger on the first sip that faded by the end. My chickpeas were ample in flavor and combined well with the other ingredients for a nutritionally and texturally diverse lunch. The savory flavor of the onion naan was divine. The Vindaloo was spicy but not just heat full of flavor! The Aloo Tikki - potato pancake was Delicious!!! On to Dinner - our daughter ordered the Karahi Ghost - goat curry was amazing, full of flavor and yummy! The wife got the Vindaloo with chicken, very flavorful and tasty and a little spicy. A great weekend lunch stop! It was very busy when we got there around noon on a Saturday, so we ate at the bar. The food was pretty good for Indian food in the area. The best part was the brunch deal that let you try a little bit of multiple dishes. Love the optionally! The only downside was that it took a little bit of time to get service. We were sitting for almost 10 minutes before someone came over to help us. The service was great after that, so I am chalking it up to the lunch rush. The aloo paratha was simple and homey (like something your grandma would make), and the paneer kebab had a nice smoky flavor though I wish the chunks were smaller for better masala coverage. The tomato shorba was decent but heavy on coconut, which isn't really my thing. The service was really good. They had a henna artist who would paint henna for you for free. We went back the next day, but the experience was mixed. The dal makhani felt more like plain black lentils in gravy, and the paneer paratha was just average. The thandai, though, was fantastic ,super flavorful and refreshing. Overall, a good spot for Indian food, but the second visit didn't quite match the first. read more

This is in my top two favorite Indian restaurants by far. I've been here numerous times over the years, for both buffet and sit-down lunches/ dinners, and the quality of the food has consistently blown me away! The service is always prompt and kind, and I personally find the decor to be beautiful. The only con here is parking, which is to be expected given the busy location. The paratha was much larger than usual and came fully stuffed with aloo masala which justified the pricier $12 cost. The menu overall was limited compared to most Indian restaurants.
