This year my wife tried skiing the first time and she loved it (happy me!). We needed to find her equipment so we came here. During COVID you had to make a reservation for boots but we got lucky and they had a cancellation. The boot fitting was excellent and for an hour they tried various boots having my wife stand, etc. to make sure the fit was perfect. We also found a pair of skis on sale that were perfect for her. As a result, I skied nine times this year and my wife has become a fan of skiing. Next time we need boots we will be here again. read more

This place is amazing!! This is not your local sporting goods store where you go in and take whatever "kinda fits". This is a place you go when you want to be serious about skiing. (No snowboarding, Ski only shop). Whatever you think, do not be intimidated by the sound "serious skiing". What I mean is whatever level you are; First timer, intermediate, or expert, Green, blue, or black runs, you will find something that suits you. I was there for my first set of boots. I was always a renter. After my Whistler BC trip last winter, I knew it was time to invest in my own gear. Knowing that good equipment can get expensive, I was told that boots should be the first thing you should invest in. As anyone who has skied at least once in your life know how painful an ill fitting boot is. It can ruin your entire skiing experience. Janusz seems to be the main guy there, He is so incredibly helpful and super nice. He took the time, asked me what my skill level and price range. He pointed out the pros and cons of the different models. What feature "entry level" boots have. The features of an intermediate and expert level boots. Even though I have rented for the last 20 years or so, I do rent "demo" skis. Basically rental skis of brands and models that people actually buy. That's why they call them demo. Your sorta test driving them to find out what you like so you eventually find a pie and end up purchasing them. Even though your renting decent skis, your still renting crappy boots. I told janusz that I was a intermediate that dabbled in non-mogul black diamond runs. First he brought out 2 pairs because after examining my feet, he saw I has a high arch and slightly wide feet. He brought out boots that are a little wider and more room in the ankle. 1 felt better than the other. He than brought out another pair to compare and that pair was more comfortable than the first. He went back and brought out another set and determined that the 3rd pair was the ideal boot. Surprisingly, it was from a company I never heard of. Roxa. It's an Italian company. But it was absolutely the best option. He had put in a high arch support insole beforehand. He took it out and I tried it on again. Absolutely spot on that I needed the support. Big difference in the feeling of the boot. He than asked if I wanted even more custom fit. He never tried to sell me on it. Never pushed it. Just let me decide if I wanted to spend the extra $. I knew if I was spending hundreds (yes hundreds) of $$$ I wanted them perfect. It was a very reasonable $60 extra. Without really knowing it, he said the model I choose was last years. He didn't try to sell me the latest greatest and most expensive boot. He was actually saving me money. They originally last year retailed for $500. They were selling them for $399. The whole process took about 1.5 hours. This was a truly personal experience. He showed the the proper way to put the boots on, and what I should be feeling ( snug and even a little tight. Which is the correct fit. They do expand as you use them to fit even better) I can't recommend them enough. It's a nice store, well stocked, with great people. This is the best ski shop in Chicago area. I have bought shoes and skis from their store for me and my wife. Wide variety to choose from and very professional approach. Janusz is the best guy if it comes to getting you your perfect ski shoes, no questions asked. Keep in mind that you need appt for shoe sizing and fit since they are very busy in the season. They carry pretty much everything that you need to ski from zero. Highly reccomend this store!! read more

Got in a little before 4pm and immediately was rushed to get out since apparently they close at 4pm (yelp says 5pm). I told the employee that tang our order up that the yelp says they close at 5 and she told management. The boss said "so?" Very rude, wont be back. read more

Thanks to this ski shop, my 17 year journey to find ski boots that fit right is finally over! I fell in love with skiing as a teenager, but as I approached age 30, apparently my feet changed, and while I still loved skiing, it would be a very painful experience. Im 44 now. I bought 3 new boots since then, and talked to local shops and shops in ski towns, and it seemed like a lost cause, and that I would just have to suffer every time I ski for the rest of my life. I thought I would give it one more try this year at a shop I had never been to before, and just yesterday I used them for the first time, and I had the first pain free day of skiing since I was in my 20s! This store does not maintain consistent hours. My wife and I arrived 3 hours before the closing time listed on the store website, which are the same hours posted on the front door, and the store was closed. The second time this has happened. Do not bother coming here. read more

We went in looking for a first pair of skis for a teen. Ben asked good questions about her experience and guided us to some good gear. We thought we'd be out of there with her new skis in short order but, surprisingly, Ben asked us to come back another time. He said a proper boot fitting would take about an hour and a half and it was less than an hour before closing. We were glad Ben insisted on taking the time necessary to ensure a good fit, and he explained the process every step of the way. It was very informative and we appreciated his patient approach to finding her the right boots and skis. read more

I've seen this place for a long time but never went inside because I'm not a skier. Then this year we got the miserable cold and the best pair of winter gloves I have just didn't cut it. Within 5 minutes my hands were cold. So I went to Dick's Sporting Goods. The gloves that were warm weren't in my size, and the ones in my size weren't warm. I tried Marshall's, but that was even worse. Then I remembered this place. I called them and they were ready to close, so I went back today to see what gloves they have. This place is cool! If you are into skiing or snowboarding this is the place to get equipment. They even have a 'boot department' for getting just the right boots and it looks like they might custom fit them on some machine. Anyhow, I found two pairs of gloves that they said are warm. One was $69, one was $99. I told them I'm not skiing, just trying to keep my hands warm. They said both pairs were made by the same company and the $69 would suit me fine. So we'll see the next time we get an artic blast. If their gloves work, I'll have to update my review. Stay tuned. read more

Wow. $60 for a tune and $20 for a wax? What a rip off. Not to mention they said it will take 3 days... Shouldn't take longer than an hour !!!! Not to mention there is 0 snow on the ground so I doubt they're backed up. I will never return. The guy had a very poor attitude. I'm a novice when it comes to skiing and completely ignorant when it comes to gear. I've only rented gear a few times at resorts. Rather than waiting in lines at the resort, I decided to get my own gear for this season. I read boots are the most important thing since you're on your feet all day, so I started there. The gentleman assisting me was very thorough... in all, it took about 1.5 hours making sure I was sized with the correct boot--I also opted to get aftermarket footbeds as well--which he also heat formed to my feet. He didn't tell me I should purchase the less expensive softer beginner boots or slightly more expensive stiffer intermediate boots. He pointed out the pros and cons of each and let me choose. I wanted something to grow into and went with the intermediate boots. When it came to the skis, the same service was provided. A very thorough process which I greatly appreciated. I debated on hitting REI during their 20% off Labor Day sale to get ski boots, but most of my research suggested to hit a legit ski specialty shop. Given the amount of time just to get a boot fitted, I'm confident to say specialty shop like Ski Haus is the way to go. It's not like buying sneakers--boot fitting was very meticulous. Plus, my research suggested a specialty shop would have more knowledge and options. It was a great experience and highly recommend them. If you're a novice like me, I'm certain you'll get exactly what you need to hit the slopes! If you're more advanced, they have a racing room and advanced gear, but I can't really comment on that. Give me a few years to get better and then maybe (hopefully) I can give a review on it. read more

I have to disagree with the negative reviews here. I'm a senior, recreational skier out about 10-15 days a year and looked for a more forgiving boot at a good value. They spent time with me and explained alternatives, but did not pressure me to go with a costly product I did not need. I've brought our skis several times for service. I'm not an expert, and they were helpful in recommending what was needed, sometimes doing just a wax, again without trying to sell a costlier service and completed the same day. After dealing with the attitude at some shops out west, these guys are where I go. read more

I've never bothered to write a negative review of any business, but the treatment I just experienced at this establishment was mind bogglingly rude. I went in with the idea of looking for a ski jacket for my girlfriend for Christmas while also browsing the store in general since I had never been in the store. I took two pictures of jackets I liked to send to my girlfriends sister for an opinion. I was then asked by someone on staff to leave the store. I asked why and was told because I was walking around the store in a way he didn't like. I showed him my two pictures, but he was still unbelievably rude. I found this ski shop on the net while searching for someone to do a quick tune up for my skis. Other places had 2-3 week lead times for a tune up, not the Ski Haus! I called and left a message on a Sunday night after they had closed. Someone called me back within 15 minutes and told me they could have my wax/tune done the next day. Not only were they quick but the service was excellent! My skis look brand new. The men who work there are very helpful and very nice. They have earned a life-long customer. read more

I went here with my boyfriend tonight; he bought skis over the weekend and I came in for a paid tonight. I want you to know you have a top notch employee when it comes to Janusz. He took the time to make sure my boots were incredibly comfortable and fitted my needs, was enjoyable with pleasant conversation and joking back and forth, as well as the store was slow tonight so he took the time to complete my bindings so that I didn't have to travel again back out there. I never usually write reviews unless I experienced something so great, I must share. But this place needs to be reviewed. If I could give 0 stars, I would. My boyfriend and I were in the store looking to buy ski boots. I asked to try on a pair that I really liked! And the man rolled his eyes and said "Are you buying or trying because there is a BIG difference." I said I would like to try them on before I buy any pair and at that point my boyfriend already decided we wouldn't give them our business. Pretty unfortunate. But customer service is definitely a factor in our purchasing decision. We will not be back. read more

This place was great! I stopped by REI before Ski Haus to look at ski boots. They had 2 boots that were in my price range and were uncomfortable on my shins. I opted to keep looking for boots elsewhere. I saw Ski Haus on google and thought it had to have some better, specialized options. These guys were more than helpful. Taught me pointers that I didn't know about my boot and the fit. They explained everything that was happening with my fit and how my foot moves - because they are all skiers and have been their whole life. They even test products before they decide to sell them in their store. I told them they type of skier I was, price range I wanted to stay in, and they problems my shins have when I ski with rentals. They had plenty of options and offered suggestions based on my impression of the boot fit. Would definitely go back here for any future ski needs. read more

My friend and I were there yesterday and each bought a pair of ski boots. The man who helped us Yanush (sp?) was amazingly knowledgeable. He knew everything there was to know about how to fit ski boots and all the different features. My friend has a very wide foot and has always had difficulty finding a boot that fits well. Yahush was able to find the perfect boots for us both and even custom molded the boots to our feet. Wonderful experience. The owner as well was a former 20yr world cup skiier and knows tons about the ski equipment and industry. Great experience and will definitely refer others. read more
