First time back to Skillet in a long time. My bad since i always enjoyed many good visits in the past. Glad to see they came out of Covid intact. We showed at 1230 on a Saturday and they were to close at 130. Plenty of time. Tables were available but not bussed. We asked a couple people about a table and after a few minutes they told us they were not serving any longer. No explanation. Thats it. No explanation, just seeya later. This was a Saturday Bruch-day suggested by a friend of mine. She had hard of Skillet and said we should try it; good call! I don't know how I was not aware of this gem that has been around for over a decade but better late than never. Upon entering the venue I could tell it was going to be great just from the vibe of the patrons and the staff (who happen to be mostly family). There are no reservations but just like everyone else I was happy to wait until my turn. Once seated I was in love with the selection of food and drinks. I started with an Irish coffee and so did my friend. PERFECT! The menu changes al out daily so my delicious brisket hash may not be available but if it ever is offered I highly suggest trying it out. My friend got biscuits accompanied by butter and homemade jam - looked delicious but I was working on what I ordered so I did not try her food but the biscuits looked picture perfect. During my meal I also opted for a Bloody Mary - another win; it was pickled and spicy. Speaking of spicy, they have a house made maple hot sauce we tried and purchased. And finally, since everything was so good - including service - I ordered a to-go of biscuits and gravy for my mom; she was amazed - the eggs were arranged like a fan over the biscuits w/ the gravy on the side. I am not kidding. Egg art.lol. At the subtle suggestion of Patrick I also ordered the cinnamon rolls to go as well - you guessed it - delicious and oh so fresh. Amazing breakfast just on the edge of German Village. The huevos rancheros and pimento cheese omelette were fantastic. The pimento cheese was sweet and spicy. The dining area was intimate and very pretty. And the service was quick and extremely friendly. Highly recommend. read more

Wow, if you've not been here it needs added to your list. I had the Sando and although the poached eggs weren't as runny as I would have preferred the flavor in the dish was fantastic. I'd definitely have it again, although I'd request runny yolks, more like their instagram photo. Definitely check out their insta to get an idea before you go. My daughter asked for a grilled cheese ( not on the menu) and they happily accommodated and it was great. My wife had griddled biscuits and fingerling potatoes. We all had some of the potatoes and equally delicious. In the end we shared a griddled cinnamon roll which we were all impressed with. Start to finish, this is a fantastic restaurant. read more

I like to always start with the positive so let's talk about the eclectic and cozy atmosphere of this restaurant and the kind service staff. Now let me explain my rating. The menu is very limited and ask people to pay $17 for a cheese omelette with nothing else along with it -- way above market price. Given the size of the restaurant and likely their kitchen space, they seem to run out of popular items far too early on a Sunday morning (10:30 a.m.), such as cinnamon rolls, sausage and the chocolate pastry. I also expect that for Sunday breakfast anywhere I go that bacon would be available, but I was told that the menu changes regularly and this morning there was no bacon on the menu. For me that's not acceptable for breakfast. This was our first time at this restaurant, so we didn't know what to expect and based on what we saw on yelp, we thought we would be pleased, but turned out to be disappointed. Bottom line - the restaurant is overpriced, and does not have a sufficient menu and supply of product. Bottom line - we spent $62 for two cheese, omelettes, 2 cups of coffee and a small pastry with nothing on the side available with the omelettes. That's too rich for my blood. read more

This place is eclectic, beautiful, has great food and great service! It is a little on the high price and so be ready to spend some money on breakfast. The only reason I gave four stars is the poached egg was very cooked like a hard egg. I got steak and eggs and the steak was amazing. But I couldn't eat the egg. I will try this place again and I'm sure that it will be amazing, because I will ask for the poached egg to be less cooked. I'm pretty torn between a 3 and 4 star on this one, but overall I'd say the experience was pleasant. For a late Sunday morning, we found easy street parking, no wait for a table, and all around very quick service (almost a bit concerning how fast the food came out). Note that this spot is small and has very limited indoor seating, and if you come with a party larger than 4 you'll probably have a hard time getting a table. Loved the rustic / home-y / southern vibes from the space. Menu is pretty limited and while initially when the food came out I thought the portion was small, I was quite full when all was said and done. What'd we eat you ask? Well, I did the lamb chorizo gravy and biscuit. Lots of flavor and depth to the gravy, but not much lamb chorizo. Kind of one of those things where you think you taste it, but don't really see it anywhere. I almost considered ordering a side order of sausage but an extra $6 seemed a bit pricey. By the time I finished the biscuit did it's job and filled me up. I'll say their in house chipotle sauce was excellent if you wanted more flavor and a bit of heat. My wife on the other hand did the cheese omelette and added the $6 sausage to be chopped into the omelette. I think without the sausage I'm not sure either of us would've enjoyed just a cheese omelette. Their house coffee was excellent. In terms of price, it definitely seems pricey for what it is (+$20/per person after tax and tip), but at the same time I try to justify in my mind it's really a farm to table spot which likely markets it up as it is. I can see how the reviews on this one are pretty mixed and am still scratching my head at how it's at 4.5. Anyhow, I'll go right in the middle on this one. 'Til next time, cheers! read more

First time here, for brunch on Saturday. I was not prepared for the lack of vegetarian options. I didn't want just a cinnamon roll or a muffin, so the only thing without meat was the Cheesy Blintz entree. They were very good, but a small portion of 3 for $13. I had their special Apple Cider & Rye brunch beverage that was offered (the other boozy option was a Bloody Mary). Very good. Our server was very nice as well. Comfort food for breakfast? I'm there. Chorizo omelette was delicious and super flavorful. Breakfast sandwich was huge and you needed a knife and fork - perfect. The cheesy taters were phenomenal. Everything is quite rich and delicious. And greasy. Ingredients are super fresh! This is definitely a treat yo self occasion and you can't eat here regularly if you care about your cardiovascular health haha. The Cold brew and house brewed coffee are delicious. Kinda fru-fru farm to table locally sourced breakfast spot but good food. They might go a lil overboard in creativity since sometimes you just want it simple but delish but I'll give em A fit effort. The root beer jam not to my liking but then again I don't l like root beer lol I had a basic omelette and the hubby tried the lamb sausage along with a fried egg n biscuits - we both found the lamb sausage too wild tasting or gamey I'd say try it once but that might be it - it tried too hard to be edgy but for me it went too far. Very cozy space with excellent food, cocktails and service. The smoked chop dish was completely unexpected and SO DELICIOUS. It was almost bacon-y, totally smoky, salty, unctuous and crispy and served on a cheesy, creamy and generous serving of grits. I barely ate half of it. We started with biscuits and jelly. The biscuits were very unique as they seemed to embody every possible biscuit texture in the same bite. It's a delicious mystery. Last and not least - they only have a liquor license. Although the wait time can be long, the restaurant does offer free street parking. Skillet is known for partnering with local Ohioan farmers and producers. The menu changes daily based on seasonal ingredients. When I dined at the restaurant, I had the sinfully delicious cinnamon roll drizzled in bourbon, caramel, and maple icing. This has been on the list to try for quite awhile. Went for a Sunday brunch today around 11:30, was able to get in within a half hour. Place is super cozy with a few tables inside, great rustic atmosphere. Staff was very friendly. The menu is ever changing as they cook with what's in season. We started with the Bloody Mary, it was pickled which made it unique but it was a bit overwhelming for me. For 13$ you want a cocktail to have fresh and bold flavors but it was to the point of being overbearing with the bitterness. I would go with something else next time. Food included an angus burger with pimento cheese, bacon and greens served with kettle chips. We also split the omelet with Brussels, butternut squash and chorizo. Everything we ate was delicious and worth the price. Servings were hardy and hit the spot. The great eats alone will keep us coming back. read more

This place's menu changes based on available ingredients so there are new finds every time you stop by. The inside of the place is VERY small but creates a nice, homey, hole-in-the-wall experience. I got the steak and eggs which was mostly great, but seemed to be slightly over cooked to where it was a bit chewy. I deducted a couple of stars from that because it was pretty pricey and not a large cut. The sides along with it were really good. My friend got the omelette which was well cooked and a large serving. The only problem was that it was a bit hard to eat since the omelette and insides itself kept falling apart into smaller pieces whenever you dug into it. This is our second time going after the living in the neighborhood for over four years. Skillet does an excellent job with takeout. Our main entrees were separated from the sauce and the containers were sturdy. I ordered the lamb gravy with biscuits and my boyfriend got the mushroom gravy with biscuits. My meal was a bit salty, but overall, flavorful; same with his. The biscuits are the star though! They are thick, crumbly, buttery, and utterly satisfying! Also, the portions are quite large -- big enough to share. But I will say, I had TWO hairs in my food so that was a major turn off. We also got a cinnamon bun as a snack for later. Although it was very sweet, the two sauces added for a unique and tasty treat. Love this place! I had heard about it a while ago from a friend who used to live in Columbus so it had been on my list of places to try for quite some time. I came on a Friday morning with two other friends and this was probably the best time to go because no line! It was a little past 8 am and there was a girl dining with her mom. Later on in the hour, a few groups came in but it never got quite packed. The space was interesting. It reminded me of a diner from the 70s with the wood paneling and the fans. The exposed brick was a nice feature too. They modernized the space a little with trendy chairs and mason jars over the lights. The menu was small but all the items looked good. We all ordered different things. I got huevos rancheros, which had two crunchy tortillas with very well-seasoned beans, an egg on top, a sprinkle of cheese, and guacamole. It was very delicious and presented well on the plate. My friend got smoked duck and andouille gravy and biscuits. Her meal was huge! It came with an enormous scrabbled egg laid on top of the biscuits. The gravy and duck were sprinkled all over the top. Yummy! It had a nice flavor to it. Really cool dish! My other friend got Hog and hominy, which was cheese grits on the bottom with a tomato gravy mixed with pork and then a poached egg laid on top. Very delicious!! They did a great job with the uniqueness of the dishes and presentation was pretty good for the most part. Prices are a little higher here, but it's local and they're using ingredients that aren't all that cheap anyway. My friends said the coffee and black tea were good too! Service was great. Our waitress checked up on us a few times. Food came out in maybe 10-15 minutes. It wasn't long, but they also weren't that busy. I'm not sure how this place is rated as well as it is. The food is good, but nothing special- they don't give you much outside the entree (no sides unless you pay much more). We had the sausage and biscuit, which was comprised of bits of sausage in a very rich gravy over scrambled eggs and a biscuit- kind of simple. I can't believe how much I paid for this and to have drinks so light on alcohol. Seating is extremely cramped and you can't escape the draft from the door. The service is decent and friendly, but overall this place was a huge disappointment. I may give this place one more try. read more

*Pre-COVID19 back in February* Their pork chops are on fire!! Really. They know how to cook their meats super well! From the right temperature to the crispy/seared crust and delicious flavors, I thoroughly enjoyed my dish and had to share it with my date since she was not a huge fan of hers. My date ordered their grilled cheese blend and though I actually thought it was a nice rustic blend of cheese, she did not like the soft cheese and it's slight sweetness component. So it's really a preference but to each their own! Note: their seasonal menu and selection of cuts are limited, so try them before they run out for the day! Went this past weekend to Skillet and it was an enjoyable experience. The staff was fantastic! The seating area is small and there usually is a wait in the weekends so be prepared. The morning we went, it was hot inside and it seemed like they didn't have any AC on which made it a little unpleasant. Jumping to the food, it was good but nothing over the top. My friend got the sausage and biscuits and it was a decent portion size but lacked appeal both visually and taste. I got the cheesy potatoes with eggs. The taste was all one note really and again, visually, it looked kind of gross (you eat first with your eyes) with the long cheese curds. It may have tasted and looked better with smaller, cut potatoes, smaller cheese curds, and more seasoning. The knockout, amazing item were the biscuits with cherry jam...absolutely amazing and would get those again 100%. read more

A simple space with both interior and exterior(seasonal of course) seating, I hear the wait on weekends can be brutal but you won't have much difficulty on a weekday. The menu is loaded with creative options, some of the best include: Morning bun - a pastry which honestly looks like a cinna bun. Flaky and filled with gruyere cheese, served with a hefty side of whipped butter. Cheese blintzes: sheeps milk ricotta. Yep, that's what you just ate, and it's wonderful. Surrounded by a light and airy crepes topped with berries and a dust of powdered sugar. It makes you smile just to read it :-) Biscuits and gravy: OMG...save the best for last. An absolute flavor explosion. Yes the biscuit is good but the gravy? Mr. gravy, take a bow, you are the real star of this show. The pepper takes this gravy to another level.
