This is the place where I got my first tattoo and the people there made me feel very comfortable and at ease. I got my tattoo August of last year of a design/saying all around my wrist. I forget the name of the gal who works there but she did an amazing job by asking if I was OK, felt OK, even though the tat only took 15-20 minutes. She was careful and meticulous and a sweetheart! The place is a bit small but is very clean and nice. I believe the minimum is $60 which, to me, is great and worth it. The total price of my tattoo came out to $100 (not incl. tip). Did a walk-in at Skin Art for my first tattoo. The guy who did it (Soke? not sure of the spelling) was really sweet and took his time to make sure I felt okay. He re-did the sketch I had to make sure it fit my idea of the tattoo, and recommended small changes to ensure its quality. He really worked with me to make sure I felt comfortable. Whenever I got nervous or it hurt or anything, he'd chat to keep my mind off it. The only problem was they didn't give me after-care instructions or ointment for the tattoo-- after I left, they called my cell phone and let me know what kind of lotion to use, which was very thoughtful of them, but I wish I'd remembered to ask before I left. I definitely do recommend this place. They fit me in right away on a Saturday afternoon (when Pino Bros down the street couldn't see me for a week), went over everything, and gave me tips and advice on the whole process. Yay! read more

I've had a total of 4 sessions with Jason for my back tattoo and it had came out better than I had expected ! Booking an appointment has always been a breeze whether it's by phone call, email or Facebook messaging with him. He's a super laid back & chill kinda guy. Every session we had would be 5-7 hours long but it goes by quick. His attention to details are top notched! Even when my Phoenix hasn't been shaded in yet, it still looked dope because the lining was on point ! Jason had always told me that he is willing to stay longer after closing to get as much work done as possible and was never rushing for my tattoo . I enjoyed all of our sessions because he had made me super comfortable and we always had great conversation without slowing down the work. I also liked the fact that Jason always included his opinion as to what I like and what would look best for my tattoo . I've gone to other places where I asked the artist for an opinion and all they could say is "if you like it, do it" but they never turned out as nice as I've liked it which I will be returning to Jason to have him fixed it up. His weekends availabilities are always booked though, but I've always been lucky to get fit right in due to cancellations. This place is super clean and they use hospital graded everything and their stuff is cleaned by an autoclaved machine ! Jason is the guy to go to ! Terrible, terrible, terrible first impression of this place! They simply acted like they did not want my money and I left adamantly not wanting to give it to them. My wife and I simply walked in off the the street to inquire on getting some work done. The man at the front counter was completely abrasive and rude. He acted like we had no right to walk through the door and engage him. We had to leave before I lost my temper and told him about himself. First impressions are everything and the customer is always right. This place fundamentally does not understand that!! After doing some extensive research (yelped and asked around) and even stopping in at a studio in Allston, (after which I was never called back by the artist...) my friend brought me to Skin Art. We initially went to Pino Bros, but there was a 3 hr wait for a female to do the work and I am HIGHLY female phobic, so they recommended this place! Walked into this establishment to inquire about the services they provide and a possible appointment. The guy at the front desk was very rude an impersonal as my husband and I only wanted to ask about their services. He yelled at us asking if we just walked in and proceeded to tell us that he could do anything for us without an appointment (let alone answer any questions). I would like to think this is not the way you would treat a potential client but I think this person's biases played a big part in this encounter. Honestly I felt the experience was not great I am slowly getting a mural on my back and love to try different creative places so mostly i am looking for artist to give there spin on my universe theme but the artistic skilled lacked it was more technical he drew my idea on a post-it and it looked sloppy the Leo constellation the came out ok ish for $120 which would have been appropriate if it had more detail and I tipped well only because I came in late and i am pretty difficult to deal with I feel it was more the tattoo artist who was lazy and grumpy not very cool like how i feel an artist should be I do not think i will be coming back and if i do it will not be to that artist. read more

So I have been to quite a bit of tattoo places and by far this is the best. I have also been to Chameleon in the Garage and well those people aren't as friendly as the guys at this shop. Last night I got my 7th tattoo done and I'm in love with it. This was the second time I went here and I've been recommending it to friends every chance I get. I had Tuyen as my artist and I couldn't have been happier. If you go into his room you can see some sketches he has and and they are amazing. He is very talented and he does take the time to make sure he gets it the way that I want it. He also adds in his own ideas as to how the tattoo can be better. I was itching for a new tattoo, and wanted it done immediately. I had never been to Skin Art before, but it's a ten minute drive from my apartment and when I called earlier they told me they could take a walk-in. I brought in a few sketches of a fairly simple tattoo idea. I had a bunch of questions and asked for suggestions, and Mike was super patient and worked with me to get the proportions, sizing, color, and placement just right. He was super meticulous about making the shading gradient and outline just right. This place rocks, hands down. I recommend it 110%. My artist, Soki was amazing; he was professional, respectful, and most importantly, an extremely talented artist. I called in advance to see if they had time to do a walk in and they totally accommodated me. Soki turned my blurry iPhone picture into a beautiful tattoo. I also like that it's not an hourly rate- they give you the price in advance which is how it should be. My tat would have cost double if they charged hourly. The one thing I loved was being able to watch Netflix, whatever I wanted, during my session. Like I said, Soki is great (so is Ed!) so give this shop a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

This place is great. I got my first tattoo of a dragon on my lower back and Tuyen was the artist that did the tattoo. He did a wonderful job. It took about 4 hours and I didn't leave until about 10pm. Tuyen didn't rush it, he was really friendly, had music on. Was really relaxing. Came back six months after to get orchids on my shoulder with Tuyen. Came out beautiful. Too bad he is not there anymore. This is the ONLY place my gf and i go for tattoos. And it HAS to be Mike that does them. Everyone is a great artist there but we have bonded with Mike and he's awesome. He does AMAZING WORK! My Gf has had ALL of her tattoos done there and she has at least 14. I have had some work done there as well. AND..i had a tattoo that was done years ago by someone else that was totally F'd up, Mike tried his best to fix it without having to cover it up. Skin Art Studio is by far the best tattoo shop near Boston! I was visiting from California and walked in the shop on a Monday with an idea for my tattoo and was able to get the tattoo on Thursday. Jason took care of me and worked with me to get the exact tattoo i wanted, as well as keeping it within my budget. **Disclaimer I actually really like the tattoo I got here, this is all about the customer service!!*** So me and my friend went in to get walk-in tattoos, and they saw us pretty quickly that day which was nice, but the guy who tattooed us was super gross! My friend was getting a side boob tat and he kept talking about how sexy it was and how nice her chest was, and then when I mentioned that I had my nipples pierced he lifted up my shirt and TOUCHED my piercing and asked what it felt like if someone licked or touched my piercing which was super inappropriate!! He also took a picture of my friend with her boob out after she got her tattoo but like had her whole boob in the picture and texted it to her after but then kept texting her about how sexy the tattoo was. My wife went here about a 6 months ago and the artist did a great job covering up an old piece on her leg. I wanted to get some new work on my sleeve but have not received one call back! A friend of mine said the owner does great work but this guy, Qwui, is really unreliable at returning calls and following up, so after the 3rd unreturned call I found another local guy, props to the dude in the shop for the cover piece..... but don't expect a call back from the owner/manager.....really just not the way to run a business read more
