Later in the day they practiced taekwondo before getting picked up around 6 or 6:30 PM. We love this place and Master Kwak cares about the kids. Both my boys enjoy doing sparring and have participated in many local and national level competitions with a very high success rate. We have also seen increased self confidence in our boys. I do not recommend you send your kids to this place if you want them to learn Taekwondo seriously. I sent my kids here with that very intention and was totally let down. It's not worth the cost. The instructors are very nice and friendly to the kids, but they can't watch over all the kids when they are practicing, and the kids end up performing so sloppily, even the ones with a brown stripe belt. The belt tests are a waste of money as well. They charge you every time you take a belt test, which is every two months. The external judges they bring over for judging the kids don't even properly pay attention to the kids when they are testing, and instead, they chitchat among themselves. I feel that this is a total disrespect to the art form and to the kids who perform at the test. Because they don't evaluate the children as strictly as they should be doing, even the kids who do a bad job during testing will still move on to the next level belt. My kids and many of friends' kids went here. We didn't see major improvements even after they received the brown stripe belt. They only teach a different type of form and self defense as they move up to the next belt, but they don't teach them properly. If you want your kid to learn proper self defense, please go to a different place. My response to the owner: I have written this review based on my friends' and my experience. We were not satisfied with your training, but we had no choice but to let our kids continue since we paid for a 1 year contract and you wouldn't let us cancel. Please, instead of being defensive, take this as constructive criticism and try to improve your ways. read more

Both my son and daughter attend Sky Martial Arts in Simi, and I can honestly say this place is a gem. The instructors are incredibly attentive, patient, and truly know how to engage with kids. The atmosphere is positive and supportive, and it feels more like a community than just a studio. We came here after a rough experience at another Taekwondo school where my son had grown to hate training. It got so bad that he would break down in tears. We nearly gave up on martial arts entirely, but a few of his fellow Cub Scouts recommended Sky, so we gave it one last shot. We enrolled his little sister too, since she had just turned three and met the age requirement. From day one, I could tell this place was different. My son was smiling again. He's not only enjoying himself, he's learning better and faster than ever before. Sure, there are still days when he says he doesn't want to go, but the moment he walks into the studio, his mood shifts. He lights up. The instructors have done things with him I didn't think were possible. They make even the most challenging exercises fun, and he's rising to meet those challenges like never before. It makes me proud. As for my daughter, she's the youngest in her group and definitely has the attention span of a typical 3-year-old, but she's always excited to go. The instructors handle her with such patience and care, and she actually listens and participates. Sky Martial Arts has exceeded every expectation I had. This studio has made a huge difference in my kids' confidence, discipline, and joy. We plan to keep them enrolled indefinitely. Could not recommend this place more. read more

I'm a long term student who has been attending this taekwondo business since it started. In my opinion this taekwondo place has done its job and exceeded it. All of the instructors are kind and enthusiastic everyday, the office manages their job with a smile and a hardworking attitude, and the headmaster of this establishment is a great teacher who cares about not only the students' safety but also their own betterment as a person. Sky martial arts teaches taekwondo and hapkido to all ages and doesn't fail with advanced teaching towards their elite black belt class. This taekwondo place is geared towards mostly younger students (ages 3-12), but if you're older they have classes that can suit you and make sure you feel comfortable while also possibly cutting off a couple of pounds (wink). We love this place. My kids have not done a lot of athletics and in a few short weeks they have learned how to kick and defend from getting hit. We signed up for my kids about 2 months ago and the instructors are amazing with the children, respectful, helpful, and give encouragement. The kids do have a good time and they do learn. I noticed that my son has trouble doing his falling and Master Hwang has taken extra steps with my son to work on his weakness. Thank you Mater Hwang for being patient with him. Master Hwang does notice the weakness of his students and work with them one on one. This extra mile made him a "great" master. Sky Martial Arts Simi has been a wonderful and positive experience for my son. He started when he was 7 years old and he is now an 11 year old who has earned his 1st degree black belt. The masters, instructors, leaders create a warm and encouraging environment where kids can have fun, make mistakes, and challenge themselves to go beyond. I can't say enough about Grand Master Hwang, who leads this DoJang with such dedication and inspires his students to work hard while believing in themselves. Sky Martial Arts has helped both my daughter and son transform. My daughter (age 9 when she started) who was shy at the beginning built so much confidence after she started with Master Hwang. He customized his approach to the child. He is fun and loving but teaches the children the value of discipline and respect. My son (age 4 when he started) was a little scared in the beginning but the entire staff and Master Hwang made sure he felt at home and had confidence to do it all. It's hard to keep kids active when there is so much technology to distract and entertain them. My son was having difficulties with attention and has zero interest in playing on a sport team like soccer. I grew up getting to see my sibling participate in Taekwondo, and knew that it would be the best choice for my son. Ive been going to this martial arts studio for 8 years now, and I have learned so much about the martial arts of taekwondo, hapkido, and the country of Korea. It focuses on teaching people how to defend themselves in a fun and energetic way, whilst also teaching discipline and respect. The energy in the gym was solid as well, family-oriented with a good mix of kids rolling around and learning together. I jumped in for an adult class too, and learned a ton in just one session. High-level instruction without feeling overly intense for a first-timer. Hoping to get back into training here myself and bring my daughter back for more classes soon. I'm writing this review as a concerned parent whose experience at Master Yoo's TKD was deeply…read moredisappointing and, frankly, alarming. Despite my daughter attending for months, we never received periodic updates, behavior notes, or any communication about concerns -- which is standard practice for any program working with young children. The first time Master Yoo raised an issue, it was suddenly framed as "ongoing behavior," which immediately raised red flags. What was described as "concerning behavior" was simply a 6-year-old holding hands with a family member and giving an age-appropriate kiss to another 6-year-old. Instead of viewing this through a normal developmental lens, Master Yoo treated my daughter as the problem and claimed other children were "bothered" by her -- essentially validating bullying behavior and putting the responsibility on a six-year-old rather than addressing misconduct from the older students involved. Even more inappropriate, he brought student comments into parent conversations -- instead of managing behavior privately and professionally. It is not a child's job to police, report, or manage other children, especially when their "feedback" is unreliable or rooted in their own behavioral issues. Yet Master Yoo seemed to take these problematic students at their word, without question, and without requiring accountability or apologies when their statements were untrue or harmful. Most concerning of all, nothing in my interactions suggested that Master Yoo has any training, licensure, or specialized education in: * Early childhood development * Child psychology * Childcare supervision * Trauma-informed practices * Mandatory reporting or safety protocol This program may be suitable for older children or teens, but based on our experience, it is not an appropriate or safe environment for younger kids. There is a clear lack of structure, age-appropriate supervision, and professional standards when managing emotional or social challenges among children. If you have a young child -- especially under 8 -- I strongly recommend seeking a more qualified, communicative, and developmentally informed TKD studio. From what I've observed, the real pattern is that she thrives when adults are emotionally attuned and supervising well. When that piece is missing, the dynamics shift. So I'm focusing more on finding environments that support her temperament

My kids have been coming here for 3 years now, for both their After School Program and their summer…read moreday camp sessions. I have nothing but great things to say from my and my kid's experience. Master Yoo runs a tight ship with his studio and the kids are safe and well guided here. With the after school program, he and his crew drive to several different schools in the Conejo Valley and pick up the children to then be taken back to the very well equipped studio. There the kids have time to play in one of their many rooms (a library room, a computer room, a gaming room, and then a general toys area) and also get help with their homework. This last piece is a game changer when you are a full time working parent who then needs to hustle dinner before starting the bedtime routine. All the instructors are so kind but firm with the kids. Instructor Nick is a staple for me who I have called up when I need a little flexibility with pick up and Instructor Wylie, bless her heart, has the patience to talk bugs to my very precocious 5 year old. What I love about this studio isn't just the taekwondo or all the fun listed above, but that they teach the kids to be responsible people. As part of the black belt candidacy process, the candidates have to teach/assist in a weekday class, a weekend class, and also draft an essay. The younger kids see the older kids helping them and it becomes a very natural process of "this is what I'm supposed to do". It's the prime case of leading by example. They learn to respect and also what's right and wrong. As the kids develop friendships with each other, the also protect each other as well. During one summer, my youngest was 4 and had gone to day camp. Another child was a little aggressive with her because she is a bit small, and the big kids along with her siblings rallied around her to protect her. I have spent time at the studio and befriended some of the children and their parents and it's been great building friendships beyond the kid's home school. Master Yoo and team try their utmost best to work with every child and parent and usually it's a wonderful fit, but sometimes it just doesn't. I highly recommend this place for you to experience yourself. Plus, where else can you get such a deal of routine parent's night out for 3 hours on a Saturday where additional siblings are discounted! My favorite part about that is that if a kid pops a balloon, everyone has to drop and do 10 push ups. I purposely stay just to wait for a balloon to pop. My kids will continue to come and we will continue to support till they say no more, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
