I haven't been back here in a year, due to the attitude of 1 particular nail tech. I do not like having male techs do my nails but I've been willing to work with them, and listen, I'm in my mid 60's so I've been getting my nails professionally done longer than anyone of them have been licensed and before some of them have been born, so I know what I like, want, and need! I come to relax get pampered and enjoy my day not to argue about my request. Sonny who does lovely nails seems arrogant and will argue with clients because he will not accept helpful re-directions/critiques. 2 stars because although the other guy does ok nails no one working there will address him. read more

I love this place! I have been coming here for about 5years now. Sonny has been doing my nails for 4 1/2 years. He is truly the best!! He pays attention to detail, knows exactly what I like even without me asking or telling him! He always goes out of his way to do new and different designs on my nails. He has even gone out of his way extra to pick up new nail colors and new powders for me !! He hands down give beat pedicures I have ever had and worth every dollar! Sonny cut my daughters cuticle. and now its horrible infected and full of pus. she's just a kid and new to getting her nails done. second time ever getting her nails done and Sonny was rude impatient snappy and kept yelling loudly in Vietnamese. my daughter turned around and looked over to me and said 'mom I don't think he likes us' Sonny is an absolute pig. Avoid at all costs. There are too many good nail salons in Austin and in surrounding areas to waste your time and hard earned money here. this place is a dive. I was on a time crunch today and called ahead to Sky Nails & Spa; I needed a pedicure in a bad way, but only had a limited amount of time. (I know - opposite of most people who want the pedicure experience to last forever and be pampered...) My phone call was answered immediately and they assured me that they could have me in & out and back to work in no time. When I arrived, they were already prepping my pedicure chair and were very accommodating in helping me choose what pedicure package as well as color I wanted. The owner/manager (a sweet man, whose name I did not get) was very friendly, offered me a drink, and even carried on conversation with me; I was so happy with how hospitable the place was! I was in and out in just over 30 minutes and got an AMAZING gel pedicure. I didn't feel like she rushed through it, skipped steps or anything -- it was amazing and she even rubbed my legs with a mixture of oil and lotion at the end, which was a soothing way to end the appointment. I moved from another state and came to Sky Nails in September. As a frequent customer of this establishment, I have been kind enough to post photos of the staff and their handy work on Yelp. I just received a phonecall on my personal phone from the staff asking me to remove their reviews and photos on Yelp. I am beyond taken aback by the request, but I have done as they asked. Unfortunately, I will now no longer patronize their business because of this incident. $75 bucks every 2 weeks was worth it to them to take down Yelp reviews and photos I suppose. My advice to anyone else who posts for this business: If you want to continue to patronize Sky Nails and use Yelp, be sure to have them read and accept your constructive reviews in advance or they just might call you on New Years Eve at home also. read more

The next time I visited which was about two week after my first review, the job was extremely rushed, four of my nails were different shapes, the polish started chipping the next day and when I went back they were so nasty about fixing it. I've been coming Sky Nails for over 3 years now. They are family owned like most nail salons and make all customers feel welcome. They offer water/soda to customers and take walk ins/appointments. The ladies that have done my mani/pedi all do a great job and are very friendly. They have a punch card and after 10 visitors, you get a discount on one of their services. Chairs they use for pedicures have a disposable bag for each customer and ensuring proper sanitation. I live out of town and love my regular place but I think I may have been converted. The people here were so nice and funny and spoke good English. Nice place with a huge selection of colors. I went in for a gel fill in and came out super dissatisfied. The gel didn't seem to stick to my nails and was peeling immediately and spider webbing. I can't believe I paid 45!!!! For this? I've been to places and usually pay about 35 for a fill and it's 10x better and harder than this gel. My mother-in-law and I were visiting Cato and she wanted a quick eyebrow wax. I needed to have my upper lip waxed as well. Thus, we popped into Sky Nail and Spa. We were greeted immediately and asked what we needed. They performed both of our waxes within 10 minutes. The eyebrows cost $10 and the lip cost $7. Not too shabby and we both were happy with our results. The negatives: I noticed when she was waxing my upper lip, that she dipped the stick, smoothed hot wax over one side of my UL, placed the paper, and yanked. She dipped the SAME stick, stirred, placed the wax on the other side of my upper lip and repeated. Not too sanitary in my opinion. Then, when she was finished she made a point to show me the hair she had removed. As if I didn't know I was hairy....wasn't that the entire reason I went in? Cheap and convenient. Not sure if I'd go back, though. I'm weird about the double dipping thing. read more

disappointing... last time I was hear I received the deluxe pedicure and the tech took her time and did not rush. this time I went In and did the deluxe pedicure which is a step above a normal pedicure. she literally took 10 minutes from start to when she was applying nail polish. she also thought it was appropriate to clean the wash basin while I was still in the chair in the middle of the pedicure.....? she seemed so preoccupied with talking to fellow techs and was literally turning around to speak with them while working on me. the salon was empty so I don't understand the half a*s job or rush. the polish was put on unevenly and was sloppy :( At least I know not to let her do it next time. read more

Went in for a mani pedi treat for myself for Mother's Day. I just moved to the neighborhood about 5 months ago and hadn't yet found "my place" for pedis, so I decided I had to start somewhere. One tip right off the bat: they open at 9am on Saturdays, but their main staff doesn't seem to arrive until 10. I got there about 9:50 and they immediately got me into a chair and soaking my feet, but it was about 20 minutes (not exaggerating) before someone actually started working on me. And even then, there was much shuffling around, figuring out who was doing what. I got the basic pedicure, which was fine. It doesn't include lotion on the legs, which was odd, but they did put this cooling gel, which was possibly a replacement for the lotion. The lady working on my kept looking at me expectantly as she was massaging, as if I was supposed to have a look of dreaminess or something, which was a bit uncomfortable. But oh well. All in all, I'll go back for a pedicure. As for the manicure, it wasn't top-notch. She sort of rushed through it (which was actually fine, as I'd already been there forever) and smudged one nail as she was trying to get a fuzzy or something out, and then dabbed on polish to cover that spot. But, since it was shimmery polish, it was just not a great cover-up. I did hear her mention to another customer, as she shuffled her to someone else for her nails, that she only does manicures and pedicures,and "fancier" nails are done by the other girls. I think they probably do a better job at being artistic, etc. They have signs up that say they do 3D artwork (whatever that is) and I saw another woman had a photo of some design on her phone that they were trying to recreate. I do not recommend this salon; however, even though my experience was limited to acrylic nail applications alone, I was subject to other aspects of this salon's sub-par customer service. I was initially put off by the way their phone was answered when I called in to inquire about availability and pricing. It was barely a, "Hello?" I was severely confused, and for a moment thought I had called a private residence. Not to mention, the woman on the other end sounded bored and disinterested in my business. I decided to take a chance, as I was tired of scrambling around trying to find a salon in my area. For the sake of this review I will refer to my two technicians as Jane A. and Jane B. I waited for about 45 minutes to be seated, which is fine since I was a walk-in. The length of time dedicated to my nails was average, but the mistakes that were left behind were unacceptable. Jane A. left bubbles in all the solar pink in every nail. I could clearly see the plastic application underneath the pink. There was an obvious scratch in the pink on my right thumb left behind by the drill--a deep scratch. There was a green dot in the white on my left thumb, which I could not understand. Other nails were also filed flat with no natural curvature or arc to nail. Above all other things, she damaged my nail beds with over filing and cut my cuticle causing it to bleed. I returned the next day to request corrections be made. I met with no arguments. Jane B. took over the correction of my nails. She fixed the scratch, green spot, and curvature of my nails, but she did not correct the bubbles that were in the pink solar acrylic. She also attempted to correct the visible plastic application under the pink by adding white over the visible parts. However, the additional white was of a different opacity than the previous white and looked transparent. Jane B. also cut another cuticle which is still sore after two weeks of antibiotic attention. Although I was given the opportunity of corrective service, the corrections were far from perfect or flawless as they should be for the price I paid. Apart from the display of inexperienced nail application, I did not appreciate the bully attitude of Jane A who was rather patronizing. I did not feel welcome. After the two day session at Sky Nails, I will not be returning. read more

The guy with the tattoos who did my fill and pedicure was rude af and rough then said chrome is better and was trying to use that because it was easier than the polish I chose then got mad because I kept moving and he had to paint over the nails . I went in for a pedicure and it was the WORST!!! She was an older lady who's been there for awhile and acted completely uninterested in what she was doing! She cut my foot with the tool to remove dead skin! It was burning so I kept looking at it, but she didn't say a word! I asked for the $30 pedicure and she didn't even rub the scrub or mask over my entire foot! She kept looking around and barely massaged my leg! She NEVER massaged my feet! I gave her the polish I wanted to match my nail color, but she wanted to use 2 different colors (pink & red) which didn't look good. So, I asked her to use the polish that matched my nails. When she removed the lighter shade, she didn't reapply the base coat and painted over my nail bed thinking I wouldn't notice. When I asked her if she had applied the base coat, she was irritated, because she had to start over for the 3rd time! I always pay extra for nail art and this was the UGLIEST flowers I have ever gotten. As I was leaving Tin asked me if everything was o.k. & I said, yes because I didn't want to create a scene since the older lady was at the register. However, I did come back after dinner because I could barely walk on my foot it was burning so bad. I told Tin everything about my experience and he offered to put a band-aid on my cut which wouldn't even stick! I asked for some kind of discount for my next visit and he DID NOT give me one. Instead, he said, oh, just mention it next time you come in and I'll do something for you. NO THANKS!!! Everyone I've spoken to about this experience has said, you didn't pay for it did you? I said, yes, and was told they would've never paid for such a LOUSY service. This could've been fixed so easily, but Tin chose not to correct the problem. I WILL NEVER RETURN and everyone I know will hear about it!!! read more

My first experience was good enough to bring me back again. I have been a regular at a salon other than this one until they royally screwed up my nails and wouldn't fix them. So I decided to give a new place a try. I was instantly greeted and sat down. I was surprised at the ease at which I was able to communicate with everyone in the salon. I've been coming here for years and love it. I've had a few less than excellent experiences in the 6 or 7 years of my patronage but nothing that ever came close to making me stop going here and they always made it right. Tina and Vin are the owners and they are both very nice, customer service oriented people. They greet you quickly, seat you promptly (barring a heavy traffic day) and offer you a drink (bottled water, canned soda, red or white wine) if you are a pedicure customer. The Tropical Pedicure for $50 is A-MAZING! Tina developed this pedicure offering herself and I love it! Their massage chairs are the BOMB. You have your choice of fresh fruit; lemon, grapefruit or orange. They slice up the fruit and put it in the warm foot bath then they get to work on the best pedicure you will ever have. After they remove the old polish, clip your nails, trim your cuticles and thoroughly scrub away your callouses (standard) they give you a sugar rub (calves and feet), a salt scrub (calves and feet), a paraphin wax treatment for your tootsies while your calves get a clay wrap and then a scented oil, hot stone massage all while you're getting a great in-chair massage. It's DIVINE! I've had pedicures all over the world and this is one of the best I've ever had. (Note: I am known there for tipping *very* well so experiences may vary based on your tipping style.) It's worth every single penny. I do not, however, recommend getting the shellaque (sp) on your nails. I tried this not knowing that the only way to get it off was to either peel it yourself (tedious) or for them to Dremmel it off. The Dremmel removal ruined my natural nails by making them paper thin. It will still be months before my nails recover from the trauma. Mimi does great solar/acrylic work as does Tina. Kim is pretty good too. I've never had acrylics done by Lee or Ann but they all give great pedicures and manicures. I always get the deluxe manicure that includes a clay wrap and massage. I also get my eyebrows waxed and they always do a good job. Another reviewer said something about the "double dipping" in the wax but I've never seen a salon that DOESN'T do it that way and the wax stays so hot that I'm not concerned about it. I've never had any kind of infection or problem with their waxing practices. They prefer that you tip in cash if you can. If you go, tell them Holly sent you! read more

I've been here twice and have gotten awesome results. Both times I have gotten acrylic sets with gel polish and my two technicians were Sunny and Tin, both are great with over 20yrs experience. They get a lot of traffic so don't come in with only an hour to spare! Personally I don't mind, I find a wait is a sign of good service. My nails have not broken, and they only started to come unglued after a month or so, which by then I needed a refill anyways. I've found everyone in here to be very friendly, always making sure I'm doing okay, asking if I need a drink etc. My coworkers recommended this place to me and I highly recommend it to others! Terrible, terrible! I went in there because I was going to the frozen yogurt place next door and desperately needed a manicure. They were able to fit me in right away, which I took as a good sign. I had three major problems with this place: cleanliness, quality of work and price. I had to ask my technician to clean her instruments. The cuticle cutter still had OTHER PEOPLE'S NAILS in there yet. Still, since I was sitting and I'd asked her to clean them (after which, she squirted some fluid in a bottle which was unlabelled onto them and away we went), I stayed. We got nearly to the end when I realized that most of my nails were uneven. I asked her to cut them down properly and she did a crummy job. I'm a nail biter and continue to get manicures to keep me from biting. I have family pictures being taken next week and I will need to get these redone somewhere else. Oh, and lastly, the manicure was $14 when most of the places I've gone to for a basic manicure are $10. I will never again return. read more
