I stopped by to pick up some gardening things, and man, the customer service by the checker was horrible. She snapped at me to get in the "middle" and continued to chat with another customer, then when I went up, she had an extremely rude attitude explaining why I had to stand "in the middle" because..I don't even know what the heck she was talking about, other than mentioning another checker with another customer. I literally had nothing to say, because no one wants to go to a store and be snapped at, and told repeatedly to move to the "middle". There was no line, no one behind me, and the store wasn't full at all on a weekday morning. Kindness can go a long way, and there's no reason to be rude. I try to support local businesses, but this one is a pass. Swanson's and Molbaks is much friendlier and I've never had issues with either store in the years I've gone garden shopping. read more

Where to start. Huge nursery but there is a section called indoor plants and me the BEST staff member there. I mean everyone was pleasant but this person was AMAZING. Which makes me sad that we didn't ask his name. He knew a lot about planes and gave us tips on how to take care of our new addition - Fred Jr (Norfolk Island Pine) who will probably be renamed. Very large, so give yourself enough time to walk around and see everything. Very similar to molbaks, though I noticed some items here were slightly better priced. Good selection of succulents and cutesy home decor. I found the most adorable cactus decorations and for 3 in a box it was $11.99. Honestly, that made me happy. I have mixed feelings about this place. I visited this nursery with the expectation of finding everything from plants, plant stands, and pots- lots and lots of pots for new plants. While I did find all of that and more I was kind of underwhelmed by the place. Sky Nursery is big, I'll tell ya that right off the bat but I guess I was hoping for something warm and cozy like Molbak's. Sky feels very cavernous, and on a cold windy day it's definitely not an escape. I probably won't return to Sky Nursery anytime soon, they overcharged my debit card, which was weird, and I had a difficult time finding an employee to help me reach for things, with my short little legs and arms. read more

Whenever I move to a new place, I try to scope out the plant nurseries nearby. Luckily for me, the northern part of Seattle has no shortage of wonderful place. Sky Nursery is one of the larger nurseries around here that isn't Home Depot or Lowe's. We were looking for some decorative pots and just dropping by to see what they had to offer. Like many other businesses around here, Sky Nursery has been affected by the pandemic and has taken proactive steps to ensure that people adhere to social distancing standards and common spaces are appropriately cleaned so that others may use things like shopping carts safely. We came on a Saturday and there was a steady stream of people coming through. They had a line form that was quickly moving. They waited for one group of people to grab a cart before allowing the next group of people to go through. In their indoor greenhouse section (a smaller enclosed space), they limited the number of people going in their at any one time. It's spring time now so they had a large section of vegetable plants for sale. I gravitated to the native plant section that was full of wonderful little marvels that I can't wait to add to my yard. Because of Washington's climate, many ferns will grow well around here so naturally they had quite a wide collection of ferns including many that I have never seen before. I also really enjoyed the fact that they have a pretty nice bonsai tools section. I got a few trays designed for bonsai that would work well with my Japanese orchids I grow at home. Additionally they have a very sizable book section including many books featuring the local flora. This is a nice neighborhood plant nursery that is clearly popular among people living in the area. Look forward to my next trip there to start planting new things in my yard! read more

Huge nursery that mostly caters to outdoor gardeners. They have an outdoor tree selection with various evergreens and maples. There is an indoor plant selection that is relatively decent, but the plants are all TINY. It's also not a big space, so only about 10 or so people can be inside at once, for now. If you're looking for large statement houseplants, I would recommend looking elsewhere. However, if you have a small planting space at home then this is the nursery for you. They have a small section for basic carnivorous plants which can be hard to find at other nurseries. Employees are knowledgeable and friendly. Their pot selection is ok - most pots have some sort of drainage, so might not be the best place to find cache pots and nursery pots to put inside, but you'll see a few of those here and there. They have a separate section inside the main shopping area where the cash registers are for fertilizer, neem oil, planting tools, and home decor/seasonal decor items etc. So it really depends what you're looking for. My favorite part about this nursery is that aside from the indoor plant greenhouse, the place is extremely spacious so it makes for a very pleasant shopping experience during pandemic times. read more

First time stopping in to this spot. I've driven by so many times, but never came in before. There's the standard issue gift shop which I pretty much buzzed through on the way to the plant area. I wasn't too hot for candles and decor. I was hunting for flora and fauna. There is a huge selection of plants here, nicely divided into sections to make it easier to find what you seek. I especially liked the indoor plant area where the succulents and bromeliads were. I'm a succulent junkie, so this was definitely my first stop. There's also an area with perinnials, and in the back area are trees and shrubs, plus a ton of rose bushes to choose from if that's your thing. The staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help out. I was specifically looking for flowers and shrubs that would attract hummingbirds and butterflies, and the staff happily pointed me in the right direction. The staff that help us to choose some Japanese maple tree was awesome. Unfortunately upon cashing out the cashier who is helping the cashier to cash us out for the voucher is not friendly. Since our purchase is below the amount of our voucher we need to get another tree. Easily one of the best plant nurseries/gardening place I've been to. Robby in indoor plants helped my wife and I pick out a "money tree" when we were looking for a small potted tree for our west-facing window inside. He was super patient, friendly, and helpful. Hey Veggie Gardeners, This is a one-stop shop, especially if you are a planter of seeds. They stock everything from asparagus to zucchini, including winter cover crops and beneficial flowers. Try out the sweet dumpling winter squash (from Territorial). It's a small, individual-sized serving variety of squash (for two, really) and it is so sweet and delicious. Sky stocks the seeds, and sometimes in May, you will find seedlings, too, if you prefer to transplant. The sky's the limit at Sky Nursery! read more

I am surprised at the negative reviews on here as well as the comments about the customers frequenting this nursery as an 'older crowd" or 'light gardeners". I admit that I do not shop here often but when I was there this week I found everything I needed and will be going back for more. They had bulbs for fall (winter) planting. A fresh shipment of colored primroses. Garden tools. Everything that I needed for Christmas gifts. The items and plants that I did buy were very reasonable compared to Molbaks or Swansons nurseries. They have remodeled Sky and it's much bigger than it was. They have a huge gift shop now filled with gift items and gardening tools and accessories. Yes, some of the items were overpriced and I felt no need to buy them. But I was satisfied with my purchases although I may not go back for awhile as the location is not convenient for me. read more

I was referred to Sky Nursery by the florist at University Village QFC and boy am I glad she recommended them! When I got the pots home they were EXACTLY what I was looking for. Other local nurseries have responded by doubling down on creating community, innovating programs and scaling up customer service. I hope Sky chooses to go this direction in the future! Previous review (no change): As a passionate gardener I've spent more than I care to admit to at Sky nursery! Sadly, it's changed. The knowledgeable and readily available staff are not as knowledgeable and not as available. Their prices are as high or higher than boutique nurseries, without the sales and specials they used to have. They no longer allow dogs to enter (my dog is too young and busy to bring shopping, but I love seeing other people's dogs!) On the plus side, they've upgraded their store and displays, and have a pretty good selection of plants and trees. But sadly it's no longer the best place to go when you're looking for gardening advice, good value or customer support. read more

Went to Sky Nursery not knowing exactly what to expect. There was plenty of parking and a greeter welcomes you in. The crowd seemed a bit older as I walked in. The gardening goods and paraphernalia area was well stocked, there's a decent selection of outdoor and indoor plants, as well as a coffee shop. What was most surprising to me, was the prices! I'm glad the expansion allowed them to focus on having their distinct areas for indoor plants, perennials, outdoor shrubs, etc. Staff are usually friendly and their selection is good. I have been to this store for at least 4 years and my husband has been going for over 50 years. Today I was so disappointed with checker MS Karen... she was so rude to me and my husband once again. We go to Sky Nursery because most employee's are so informed and helpful but I must say when leaving the store Karen really makes us not want to return. My husband and his family all agree Karen is not a Sky Nursery family member for sure and should look for work elsewhere otherwise our family after many years will save money and shop at a different place. I struggle with this review because the store is beautiful, the staff amazing, but the parking lot and the employee who tried to 'help.' I was there today, middle of a week day to ensure it was not a busy time because I have two small children and a new vehicle. I purposely parked as far out as possible with no cars near me. The young lady inside was amazing and helped me with my planting needs. Ensured I had everything I needed and help getting my purchases to my car. Overall to this point I was thrilled! Then I see my vehicle. Some inconsiderate (insert expletives here) hit my car door with such force while I was in the store that it not only dented my drivers door, but scraped the paint clear off. We are not talking a small area either, think a full inch scrape/dent. The young man helping me to the car was insincerely 'sorry, but have a good day' about it. It was the older gentleman employee that infuriated me. He came over to see what the issue was and then tried scraping the impact point to see if he could make it better. Ummm, really?! Then said there were no cameras in the parking lot but hey I could just pay my insurance deductible to get it fixed. This is a situation where saying less is better. I know this is not the fault of the employees or the store, BUT there are huge margins of room for improvement here. The employee should have just kept his mouth shut! Don't make a bad situation worse, especially not when dealing with a postpartum woman....just don't. Second, the owners should invest in parking lot cameras. Not just for instances like this but also for safety. If someone is this cavalier about damaging someone's new vehicle, who's to say they wouldn't accidentally run over a small child and drive off. I love this nursery and have spent probably thousands over the years I've been patronizing it. But I can honestly say, thanks to one jerk customer and this situation, I may not come back again. I'm even tempted to return the $150 purchase I just made to apply to my deductible to fix this damage. read more

Recently their staffing is a little better, I bough some flowering quince last 4/27/23. it is said to be hardy to zone 6. we are in zone 8 so there is no reason for it to not make it over winter. now end of april 2024 i noticed it struggled to leaf out and i saw some green buds and then today may 5 2024 it all brown. i had asked front desk about their return policy with receipt. i do understand it is 1 year. but i wanted to give the tree a chance since we have been pouring rain but it is not alive after winter. front desk transferred me to the trees department to see if they can extend the warranty for me since it only been a week after the 1 year warranty with receipt i explained it to the tree department staff. she told me nope its over a year no return no exchange. i dont live in seattle area im 45-60 minutes away but i still come to sky nursery to support their business. im disjointed in today's interaction with the situation. perhaps they are not worth the drive as I thought. read more

Great nursery! Good selection. When we went they were having a 30% indoor plants and 25% off planters sale. I got a beautiful Rex Begonia for much cheaper than I could've gotten at Swansons or Bainbridge Gardens. Recommended if you're already in Shoreline but I wouldn't drive out of my way to go. I have been to sky nursery dozens of time over the past few years. And every time I keep coming back. This place has everything and is beautiful even if you don't plan to purchase anything. So much to see from the beautiful koi pond , gift shop , cafe and all the plants for sale. Prices are very comparable to other nursery's in the area. The only down side would be the expensive pottery. Sadly this is at every nursery tho. They even do Christmas trees during the Christmas holiday. read more

A few weeks ago, while going to Costco, I passed by this nursery. The first thing that caught my eye was the large greenhouse-look of the facility (upon walking in, you realize that it actually is a giant greenhouse). So yesterday, while looking for plants to decorate my room, I decided to pay this place a visit. After walking around for half an hour trying to determine what plants would fit the decor of my studio and also be able to grow indoors, I settled on some...yea wait for it....Carrots, Kale, and Thyme. I'm hoping to expand this in a few months granted I can keep them alive. Total purchase for the 3 plants plus a water-collecting tray = $18 Pros: -Great selection (herbs, vegetables, perennials, vines, pitcher plants, venus flytraps, bromeliads, etc.). They literally have everything you can think of off the top of your head. -Friendly and helpful staff -Reasonable prices -Don't quite me on this, but I was overhearing a conversation and apparently you can return a plant if it's basically in the same condition that it left the store? This place is hugely addictive. They have every variety of plants under the sun. Their orchid selection is fascinating & beautifully curated as is their hothouse. Very helpful staff and definitely no sociopathic floor managers. And they don't allow dogs so you don't need to worry about tripping over one or better still, stepping on one. I have shopped at Sky Nursery many times. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful while shopping for plants, shrubs and trees. However, their delivery service isn't great. The help at the check out counter to get the delivery scheduled was rude. It was made clear (and noted on the receipt) the deliverers would call before they left the store to ensure we were home, they never called. When they arrived with our delivery, they didn't even knock on our door to let us know they we there! They just left everything in the front yard and drove off.
