I've driven to/from Hwy 2 off of I-5 or SR522 to head over Stevens Pass many times, but this was my first time to detour off the main drag and visit the downtown retail area in Monroe. I specifically was seeking out Sky River Bakery on 3/15/25. I lucked out with a nearby parking spot and had an opportunity to check out the pastry case offerings while in line. There's also a few tables to dine at onsite. Pleasant small town, neighborhood feel. Both folks behind the counter were welcoming and kindly answered my questions. Nice assortment of beverages and baked goods available like biscuits, cinnamon rolls, cookies, muffins, cupcakes, and other pastries. The person ahead of me made it a point to have biscuits and gravy plus cinnamon rolls to go. Cinnamon roll got my attention! I ended up ordering a ham & cheese biscuit - got two mini ones for the price of one, plus a cinnamon roll. The latter kept really well refrigerated which I later ate for breakfast before work during the week. Nice that it was a manageable size and not too cloying with glaze...Goldilocks just right, lol. This is a cute little bakery in downtown Monroe! They also sell local honey, candles, and some artwork. We ordered an oat milk iced latte and a savory bread. The latte was really good, but I wished the savory bread had more filling. The flavor was nice tho. The person who helped us was very nice. Amazingly cute little bakery and coffee shop on Main St. in downtown Monroe. I walked in early in the morning and came upon amazing and delicious bakery smells and freshly made pastries. I got a latte and sat down to meet some friends. The staff are so kind and friendly. The coffee was made very well. The staff brought out some complimentary Christmas treats for us!! Our family has eaten here more times than we can count (our current favorites are the savory brioche, kolaches, apricot raspberry bar, and we have to get a ham and cheese biscuit when we go). We've also ordered a birthday cake, cheesecake, and specialty cupcakes. The online ordering process is so simple and easy to use, and the product is always stellar. Our most recent purchase were the specialty cupcakes for a birthday party. I worked with Alicia. She was so helpful and friendly! This is an adorable little bakery that always has great coffee and several delicious options for a grab and go breakfast. As I write this review I'm enjoying a luscious and still warm morning glory muffin. My kids always want a cinnamon roll and a maple bar. I love everything they make but especially anything with fruit. They are also active in the community, showing up to support local festivals and events. This is my favorite bakery in the valley. There are great bakeries in each adjacent town each focusing on their on their details but this one just hits different. I had 4 cookies each one was amazing in their own right. The epitomes of their own perfections. The perfect mix between homemade and commercial. The M&M, good vanilla flavor, plethora of candy. The snickerdoodle, the exact flavor of my childhood. The chocolate chip, taste homemade but much bigger. The s'more, almost brownie like. All different textures, and different bakes. A sign of their craft quality. They advertised their white chocolate raspberry scone being the best. It was. Their peach coffee cake had a nice crumb, and great flavor. I was out exploring my mom's hometown when I decided I needed an afternoon treat. I looked up bakeries near me and happened to be a couple blocks from this one. I lucked out because usually they would have been closed but it was the day before Christmas Eve so they were open later. The young man at the front counter was very nice and I talked with him for a while about baking and stuff. I ended up deciding on the maple bar because it looked different from any maple bar I had seen before and a cupcake for my kids. He threw in a pecan bar because he wanted me to try it and man am I glad he did! It actually ended up being my favorite thing! Now don't get me wrong the maple bar was pretty good although better heated up and the cupcake was a little dry but my kids didn't complain. That pecan bar tho! It was like a pecan pie on top of a buttery shortbread crust. So good! Next time we're in Monroe we will have to stop by again! read more

***Buyer Beware*** these were the words the owner used after I reached out due to poor product quality. Strongly caution anyone against doing business with this bakery. If you don't believe me, go look at the owner's responses to any negative reviews. For our daughter's first birthday, we were excited to get cupcakes and a small smash cake. We were even willing to pay the outlandish price tag. It took several attempts to get them ordered, as Darrin (the owner) is adamant about not taking orders through email, which is fine, although could be easily communicated with an polite automatic response, rather than a rude reply. Unfortunately we were eventually able to order. At our daughters party, the vast majority of the cupcakes were half eaten, as guests couldn't seem to choke down the dry product. The cupcakes tasted no different than an out-of-the-box cake mix that had been baked and left out for a few days. When I tried to contact the owner via email (after he dismissed my wife's email because it was his "day off") he called me and began shouting over me. At some point his tirade he got so elevated that he hung up on me. Not to mention followed up with an email (One way communication is easier when you don't care about the customer experience) and indicated that he had given my wife all the information over the phone, which was not the case. All around a poor experience. We are providing this review as a community service. A quick lookup into the reviews shows that Darrin took over this bakery only a few years ago. Be careful not to associate it's long standing history and product quality with the new owner, as there is clearly no relation. The good news: If my wife and I have agreed that any future situation where we feel the other person is unwilling to listen or compromise, we can playfully refer to the other as A Darrin! I came here on a what morning after a hike to grab a cinnamon roll, walked out with a berry white chocolate scone as well. Both were pretty sweet but definitely fresh, and the cinnamon roll was chewy. The scone was unique but too sugary. For the second year in a row, Sky River Bakery has exceeded expectations for our son's birthday cake! The bakery's cake decorator really listens to your requests and party theme and then goes above and beyond to make a cake that not only tastes great, but looks great too! This year, I mentioned our son loves teddy bears and rainbows; not only did they add rainbow sprinkles on the outside, the inside was a rainbow marble. Kind of disappointing! I have been following the Sky River Bakery's Facebook page for a few months now and keep seeing postings of these amazing looking donuts they make. Especially what looks like to be a home made maple bar and bacon maple bar. So yesterday I set out from Mill Creek to make the drive to Monroe, very excited to pick up a few donuts. Unfortunately when I got there, there was not one donut to be seen :( There were cookies, muffins, sticky looking buns, and a few other things that did not really interest me. I was even hoping to get a cup cake, lemon bar, a big brownie, or a raspberry cheesecake.. but nope none of those either! Maybe I just went on an off day but it was early Sunday morning so I figured everything would be in stock. Just moved to town last month and today was my first visit! My daughter and I came in early and her little two year old brain could not have been more overwhelmed with happiness. The smile on her face as she pointed to each pastry was so fun. We ended up going with the sausage roll, maple bar and brought the cinnamon roll home for dad. I come in here several times a week. Not only are the pastries sooo good but I have come to know and love the staff like family. This is exactly the small town business you want - getting to know you by name, knows your order and greets you with a big smile. I have so many favorites but the ham and cheese biscuits, three cheese biscuits with bacon jam, bread pudding (omg the bread pudding), and Mel's Rolls (Sunday's only - cinnamon roll with boozy caramel sauce and bacon) are always in my box when I leave. My husband loves the almond spiral and another household favorite is the vanilla cake / cupcakes. You really can't go wrong. And, yes, they follow the mask directives from state and county health departments. Please don't be a jerk. Small businesses are being crushed by COVID in every way - from changing operating rules to supply chain shortages to some really awful customers (remember I'm in there several times a week - I've seen it for myself). Wow. I read the reviews and was motivated go take a drive to Monroe to check it out. Sky River Bakery is easy to find and there is free parking on the street in front of the bakery. I selected a cinnamon roll with raisins AND a sticky bun. They looked so good I had difficulty choosing :) They were phenomenal. I'm an oldster and this bakery brought back memories of the good old days. The buns were beyond delicious; tender, moist and full of flavor. Fabulous, really. Do yourself a favor and seek them out. Saturday I went in to find a dessert for a sailing trip. Fortunately, they had available a delicious EXPRESSO sour cream coffee cake which was just right for our group. Moist with swirls of dark and white cakes and a bonus expresso icing on top! The bakery seemed to be doing an excellent job keeping Covid safe - the front door was open and a strong fan created good air flow. We recently got home from our 4th time ever coming here. This is our 1st time under the new ownership, and I have to say we were blown away by our goodies and service. All of the goods are high quality and SOOO yummy. We ordered a birthday cake for my son's 2nd Birthday to pick up this weekend, got a breakfast sausage biscuit, pumpkin brioche, loaf of honey wheat bread, and the man with the glasses (I think owner) gave my little a complimentary birthday cupcake with a candle on it and told us that they believe birthdays are so special. It was so sweet, and this small gesture really meant a lot to us. My son was so excited to eat his cupcake when we got home, and he was calling the man "Baker Aker" (from his favorite show Daniel Tiger ). Come here, you won't be disappointed.
