This is about as good as it gets in Gunnison, and that's saying quite a bit because there are…read moreseveral very nice restaurants here. The wine list is very nice, and you won't break the bank -- especially at happy hour, with two dollars off each glass of wine between 5 and 7 PM. We had the House Malbec, from Mendoza, Argentina, and it had a delicious flavor and aroma. It was a full bodied and smooth, dark red offering. For an appetizer, we had the Shishati grilled peppers with pesto/cilantro sauce, and they were just fantastic. They are mild, nicely grilled, and beautifully presented. It is served as an appetizer, but please be warned, one out of every nine peppers is exceedingly hot. We had about 12 peppers, and all of them were mild, so we beat the odds! I've had hamburgers all over the world, and I can honestly say I have not had a better cheeseburger than I got right here from the menu at Blackstock. It's in a traditional bun, lightly toasted, with tempura, onion, cracked pepper, mayo, Tabasco, candied and smoked bacon, and it is served with Hand-cut fries. You can add guacamole for a dollar, or blue cheese or Gruyere cheese for another dollar. But I did not add a thing; it was perfect as it came out of the kitchen for me! You will be asked how you want your hamburger cooked, and I chose medium. It could not have been better! It's on the menu at a very fair $21 including your hand-cut fries. My lovely dinner-date had the petite filet mignon, a 5-ounce offering of spectacular steak, served with goat cheese, potato croquettes, asparagus, stewed shallots, served with a Cabernet Demi glaze at $45. It was a large serving, I believe bigger than 5 ounces, because we are taking half of it home in a to-go box! Again, the food was spectacular... really good. We will finish with the flourless chocolate torte, serve with whipped cream and Amarina dark cherries at $11. If I was a betting man, I'd say you're gonna love this place! Take a few pictures, do what I did, and leave a review, because more people need to know the quality of food coming out of this little storefront on a busy street in Gunnison! And if you ask for Danielle, be advised, he's a great server and you will get exactly what you need! He's very attentive, and charming.

More recently, we sat at the bar last week to enjoy both happy hour, and the ramen menu. The bartender was great, and checked in with us regularly. We started with a small plate of the bistro fries - which comes covered in Truffle Oil, Herbs de Provence, and Parmesan Cheese - they're super good, and would say better than a certain CB restaurant's crack fries. The small order was plenty for the three of us to share. For drinks, we started with wine, beer, and I had a mojito. The mojito wasn't my favorite - for some reason, it was really sweet. Second drink was a glass of Sauvignon blanc, which went well with the ramen. On to the ramen - I went with the Boo-Tan-E-Koo Pork broth, traditional wavy noodles, pork belly, poached egg, tempura, green onion, buttered sweet corn, chile thread, fresh ginger, sesame seeds. It was delicious, flavorful, and I couldn't get through the whole bowl (I took about half of it home). That was my first time taking ramen home, and would note it heated up nicely for lunch the next day. We will absolutely be back to try more of the menu!

It was very distracting and why I can't give 5 stars. Service was great - our server was attentive and all employees shared in clearing plates which I always like to see. Nothing really stood out to me as far as decor goes - if there was anything cool it was overshadowed by the tvs. For drinks, my husband had an old fashioned which was good but not out of the park. I had their mocktail of the moment which was a yuzu Moscow mule. It was delicious and I'd highly recommend. On the food front, Hideout did a grand job. We started with their special loaded kimchi waffle fries. Epic! I love kimchi and everything about this dish was perfect. For entrees, my husband had their Thai Me Up Burger with shoestring fries and was very pleased with it. Cooked as requested and fun flavors. I had their Fried Chicken Sandwich with kimchi pasta salad and while I only ate half due to being filled from waffle fries, it was very tasty. On the whole, I enjoyed the food and drink at The Hideout, but not sure I would return for the atmosphere or recommend for large groups who want to hang out sans distractions. Zero Proof Review: I'm on a quest to check out all the zero proof, mocktail and n/a beverages that Denver and beyond has to offer. The Hideout did not have a very robust selection so I would love to see them expand that, but their seasonal mocktail was one of the best I've had, so kudos for creativity and craft!

So I'm always skeptical about Asian restaurants in small towns that typically don't have Asians. In talking to the person who works here I found out that the owner and chef are Asians. The chef is actually Malaysian also so I was intrigued. Anyway, we ordered a bunch of things to try and were overall pleased with it. The only thing I wasn't so impressed with was the Tom Ka Gai soup. It was fine but it lacked a certain note and flavor profile for the soup that it usually comes with so I think a certain key ingredient was missing. My friend had not tried the soup before so she did like it. I liked the Pork larb dish I got which had a good mix of salty, sweet, spicy and sour flavors. They also treated us to chicken adobo which had just come out of the oven and it was amazing! I prefer an adobo that isn't super vinegary and this fit the bill. The sauce was also reduced more so I liked it a lot. The pancit noodles that came with was very good too. Had a good chat with the owner and chef: pure Asian hospitality!

I ordered miso soup and was delighted to find that it had large slices of real mushrooms. It was such a nice touch and added so much to the soup. I also ordered the udon with tofu, which was seriously one of the most delicious udon dishes I've ever had and also one of the best tofu dishes I've ever had. Highly recommend. The creativity on this menu is totally off the charts. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. It's clear they work hard to make it such a great place. Stop here, eat good food.

Super friendly service and very accommodating for my no dairy requirements. I had the veggie burger, which was probably the best veggie burger I've ever had. This thing was so fresh tasting, there's no way it was prepared from being frozen. Full of quinoa, corn, etc. super duper delicious remoulade on a really good gourmet bun. Of course, I forgot to take a pic, but, I did manage to document my eating mates selections. See those pics - albeit, half eaten. Upgrade your order to the sweet potato tots, don't even hesitate, they're healthy and come with a mustard seed aioli sauce that makes the whole meal 360 degrees of scrumptiousness. I wish I had room in my pie hole for the donut ice cream sandwich - my only regret. Go off your intended route to try this place. McDonald's and Taco Bell don't need you. There's lovely tables and chairs under the trees that are clean and stocked with napkins and hand sanitizer. A really nice break in our trip!

They have a nice sized patio area with about 7 spaced out tables and a couple of chairs for the to go orders. There is a huge pine tree for shade as well. Simple menu written on a chalk board because it varies daily. The prices seem appropriate for a quality food truck and for the area as well. I was already debating the Philly or the shrimp poboy depending on what they had and it turned out to be the poboy. Order didn't take long and then my huge sandwich arrived. It came with a small bag of chips, but the sandwich itself is huge and loaded. The sandwich is on a soft hogie rather than the traditional french type of bread, but it's delicious and fresh . The shrimp (plump, perfectly cooked and plenty) is in a kind of dark cajun remoulade mixed with bacon and sauteed onions with multi colored bell peppers. Oh, and it has lettuce so you don't feel bad about eating it all in one sitting! :) Overall, I loved it! Bursting with flavor in every bite! Felt more like a Cajun shrimp Philly minus the cheese. Only if I was to be the one to name it of course! There is no such thing as a shrimp Philly though...yet! Oh, and ask for a fork or to have them cut it in half or you will be using way more napkins than necessary! ;-) Met Kevin, ones of the owners and he was very nice and easy to talk to. Nice place to stop if you are passing through or if you are a local, what are you waiting for!? Try them out before they go on their winter vacation! :) Or just make sure you try them out when you get a chance. They'll be back. I hope!

The ramen itself was average. The broth lacked the deep, rich flavor you'd expect from a long-simmered stock, which may be due to their short service window. The egg also wasn't prepared in the traditional ramen style, which was a little disappointing as it was an additional cost. One highlight was the iPad ordering system, it was super easy to navigate and honestly one of the best parts of the experience. Being able to order and request the bill without waiting made everything feel simple and efficient. The mochi dessert showed a variety of flavors in the photo, but when it arrived they were all vanilla. I wish we'd been given a heads-up about that. That said, the staff were really welcoming and knowledgeable. They made sure we had an endless supply of wasabi and ginger, which was thoughtful, and we definitely felt well taken care of. Ryan was a standout bartender and made sitting at the bar more enjoyable.
