I was in town over a weekend and ate here twice. The restaurant has two levels and to go upstairs you enter through a book case which gives it a speak easy feel. There's a bar upstairs with ample seating inside and out on their deck which over looks the Main Street and sidewalk. They also have a pool table and a few tv's with sports on. It has a laidback vibe upstairs. The servers I had on both nights were girls and kept watch on glasses to be refilled and then to check if there was anything needed. I enjoyed a prime rib steak on a Friday and then on Sunday I had the Alfredo with chicken. Both dishes were cooked well and flavorful as you'd expect. I've read a lot of reviews and I could see when things get busy the servers could start to lose their attention to all the tables they are over. The kitchen from what I've seen was consistently putting out good food. The only complaint I have and it's aimed at the owners is why do you charge/force a 3.5% fee/extortion on each bill/check to your customers... it's not Las Vegas and that's the only place where I've seen it constantly pushed, however in Las Vegas you can request it be removed and it is. Your establishment does give discounted options- like on debit cards you give a demand a smaller fee - to be totally fee free of demands/extortion you must pay cash... read more

We're on a family vacation, staying in Gunnison before a long drive back to Conifer. It was a bit of a wait, but the host checked in on us a few times to make sure we were OK with the wait. Solid service there. Once we were seated, the waitress was friendly, attentive, and very good with recommendations. The trophies on the walls give the place a very western feel. The steak lives up to the hype. Mine was a sirloin, and it was aged well, cooked to perfection, and absolutely seasoned to perfection. I got mushrooms on the side, and it's great to see a place that serves mushrooms without onions, since I don't like onions. My wife got the burrata appetizer as a meal and raved about it the entire time. I'd go here again. In fact, I'd make this a regular rotation stop if I lived there. read more

Extremely disappointed with our experience at Old Miners Steakhouse. For a place that claims to specialize in steak, the execution was completely unacceptable--especially given the steep prices. They ran out of fillet ​My steak was served drastically undercooked, but worse than that, it was without a doubt the toughest, most unchewable cut of meat I have ever been served at a restaurant. Stopped by when I was in town recently on a trip. Sunday lunch was somewhat full upstairs and out on the balcony. Now, I preface this by saying, I've eaten here over the years, but only for dinner while in town on business. Recently there again for business, popped in, sat upstairs for Sunday lunch. Ordered the Caliente Burger with a side of cottage cheese. It was good, but not great. I had grown accustomed to the quality of their steaks and the hamburger patty just wasn't that. Ordered it medium rare and it came out well done. And the patty seemed to have been (but I could be wrong) from a pre-made frozen patty. It just didn't taste like fresh made hamburger meat. Fantastic meal in beautiful downtown Gunnison Colorado. We stopped in for dinner about 430pm on a Friday night. They don't take reservations for parties less than six, so get there early. The dining room is rustic and filled with great mounts. The host and server were professional but casual. Our server Yvon was pleasant and attentive but made us feel a bit rushed. We ordered a Manhattan rocks and a Cosmo. Both drinks were fair pours and balanced correctly. We both chose Ribeyes for our entre. They were seasoned well and cooked to our ordered temps. The sides were also executed perfectly. We got our hopes up for the peanut butter chocolate pie for desert but it was 86ed. The service was outstanding! The restaurant is very interesting, with local historical items and photographs around the place, tastefully done. We were a party of four in there for dinner, one gentleman got the fillet, I got the T-bone steak, the other two people shared a big salad, chucked fried steak, a baked spud and wine We had a very nice bottle of red wine at a fair price (the Malbec!) Everyone was very well pleased with the way the steaks were cooked, the presentation was nice, and the service was absolutely great by a gal named "Max" (which we figured was short for Maxine). Max absolutely loves her job, and it was obvious! She took great care of us! We were treated like long, lost friends, although it was my very first time in the restaurant. We were a little excited to try this place as this being our first time to Gunnison. We do not recommend. My daughter and wife had the small steak and I got the ribeye. Maybe I am a little biased, but a $42 ribeye should be thicker than 1/2" like the ones served at discount chain restaurants. My steak was under seasoned while the small steaks had enough seasoning it could be scrapped off with a fork. The waiter only was seen twice, once to take the order and the other to bring the check. When the steaks were delivered, my drink was empty. By the time the waiter came with the check, I had also emptied my water cup. I inquired if ice tea refills were not included. Anyway - if you do decided to go - stay away from the entries and maybe try the burgers? Just don't expect to be asked how they are or receive refills on beverages :(. read more

Have you ever walked into a restaurant and been sat at the worst table and then completely ignored while the rest of the clientele receive welcoming, friendly attitudes? Unfortunately this is the experience we had when we tried to dine at the old miner. Maybe it was just bad luck, but we were ignored and then treated like we were strange for asking why nobody visited our table. Even the manager or owner seemed to be traveling around, making sure every other table was satisfied (except for ours) and after we inquired as to why we were ignored, we started getting strange looks. After waiting 45 minutes and not even seeing our appetizers and watching customers who arrived after us receive their meals, we asked when our food would arrive and I told the waitress that my blood sugar was getting low and I would have a medical emergency if I didn't eat soon. The bartender was new (first night on the job) and had another team member assisting her - both were fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and efficient. I had just three drinks, and the total seemed pretty inflated - definitely felt like tourist pricing. Tuesday Night: Unfortunately, night two was a very different story. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me or took a drink order. I ordered the same steak (rare), but my salad never came until I asked for it when the entrée arrived. That delay left my rare steak cold by the time I finished the salad. Service was noticeably slower and less attentive than the night before - I had to ask for a second drink after my food was already out. Again, drink prices were steep for what I ordered. Took our family out for dinner and both of our daughters ordered the sirloin steaks cooked medium well. They came out raw and bloody. Asked for them to be fixed. They cooked them again and they were still rare and bloody. The third time they cooked them they were so tough they couldn't be eaten. When my husband spoke to the manager he said we all make mistakes and the world was not going to end. NOT THE WAY TO TREAT CUSTOMERS!! Referred by a friend and apprehensive but wow what a great experience. Izzy on the deck was super cheeky and fun. Everything was great hot and timely. Staff like that make everything work. The Big Salad (Elaine) Wedge was wonderful. Fried mushrooms very nice. Hot and juicy. The Filet was cooked perfectly. There was no need for the heavy Lawrys seasoning on top. The steaks are fantastic and speak for themselves. Let the pedestrian's add that and ketchup to their own undoing. Izzy made the difference between 4 and 5 star. We come to Gunnison every summer for a couple of days with family, and always go to the Ol Miner for dinner, but this will be our last visit. We had a group of seven, and they were able to seat us quickly even without a reservation which was nice. They weren't very busy, but that's still appreciated. When we got our food however, it was a mixed experience. About half of the meals were good, the others were okay, and my sirloin steak was terrible. It was cooked well, and a good portion, but it was so incredibly over seasoned with rosemary that you couldn't enjoy the steak. A family member ordered the smaller steak and had the same problem. Our waitress was very nice, but didn't come back to the table until everyone else was done eating, and I told her about my steak. She immediately went to get a manager, and after several minutes a lady came to the table and apologized, and offered to remake the steak, which I didn't want to wait for as we had already been there for a long time and everyone else was done eating. She then offered a couple of free desserts which we weren't interested in, but seemed very irritated about the situation as we just wanted the one steak taken off the bill. She was then quite rude and walked away. When the waitress returned, she said they could only discount 25% because I had eaten some of the steak. In reality, I had eaten a few bites trying to just suck it up, and had tried cutting the top and bottom off that had been over seasoned on part of it. The waitress was very apologetic of the situation and honestly felt bad about it. We all have bad meals from time to time, and whether this was an error, or just the recipe they like, that's fine. What's inexcusable to me is the way the situation was handled by the manager. There were plenty of things about the meal that could have been better, and brought up but weren't, so to be so rude in handling the situation just didn't set well. Not to mention being glared at by her and another upper team member on our way out. Save your money and support one of the other restaurants in town that will appreciate your business. read more

Forgetful, slow, maybe training, maybe lack of care. Food was just OK. We got the cheese curds which were over cooked, more than a good ratio were lacking cheese and was just breading. I had the prime rib and that was good, Rosemary crusted and fair serving size, Loaded baked potato and the house Mac'N'Cheese, all tasted good. The better half got the soup of the day, which was not the soup of the day (see comments about server), ended up with a potato soup that the server failed to mention had seafood. Non issue for us but we do have a child with seafood allergies SMH. 2 bites in and BAM; Salmon... The Chicken Fried steak lacked Flavor as did the gravy and the mashed potatoes. We had to ask for silverware and napkins multiple times, dessert was OK, Coffee showed up after we ate it... We really wanted to love this place because it was the only time we ate out during our week long trip to the area but found it to be really overpriced mediocre food. I get that it's a ski/resort town and so they rely a lot on tourists and such, but man, it hurt my heart to order two really average burgers (bacon cheddar and the Caliente burger) with the bill coming out to more than $30. My caliente burger barely had any jalapenos or jalapeno strips and overall lacked any kind of heat. Both burgers looked like they were pre-made patties and didn't taste fresh. The upsides are that the restaurant itself looks really nice and our server was friendly. But I don't know if we just had an off day but the burgers weren't worth getting. read more

Couldn't ask for any better service really. Excellent food, I would highly recommend their grilled salmon ($22 plus 2 sides). Prices are very reasonable in my opinion. Absolute failure! We waited 2+ hours for our main meals to be served. Ordered short ribs and baby back ribs, both normally slow cooked, Mac and cheese, baked potato, again cooked in advance. My ribs came out absolutely cold. Mac and cheese warm. Sent the ribs back and were served cold again. Baked potato had nothing to top, no butter or sour cream. He ordered a Blue Moon b4 dinner and an Old Fashioned with his meal. The Old Fashion was not great: it wasn't stirred upon preparing so wasn't sweet and then way too sweet. A cheap cherry was in the drink - not luxardo. I asked for a taste of a hoppy beer. The first was not cold and with a large head. The second was served in a glass with a lipstick stain. I haven't worn lipstick since March. For dinner I ordered the trout with coleslaw and pilaf. They were all very good - served hot and well seasoned. I would definitely get the cole slaw again. Deep fried mushrooms as a starter also good - even with the coating removed. For the prime rib, it was good for the guy craving it! read more
