Our second time coming here in two weeks. Fridays are must because they have their grilled oysters which we had to have again! The owner cooks them himself and they are just incredible! I got a Hugo spritz this time which was nice a refreshing! We tried the meatballs (super juicy and the bread was fluffy and delicious), pickle cream cheese bombs (recommended by the best server Quinn) were fantastic and then we had to get some dessert to go! We spent our whole time at the river bar this time and left with fully belly's! Quinn's the best server, he's so friendly and has great recommendations! When we sat down we noticed 2 of the 3 bread plates and silverware were dirty, asked the server for new and he forgot until I asked if they still served bread before the meal then he finally brought them. We ordered a pitcher of sangria it lacked in flavor and seemed watered down. Then appetizers arrived we had the calamari we thought it was very good. Then the luke warm mushroom soup arrived and when our meal arrived our steak and pasta were very cool like it had sat while my daughter's chicken parm was being prepared.She said her meal was acceptable. My wife and I had the pleasure of eating at Garlic Mike's over the Fourth of July weekend. We had two dogs with us so we rented one of their cabana's which was lovely and reasonably priced. We both had the prime rib, end cuts. Very nicely seasoned and appropriately cooked, end cuts get more seasoning but can be easily over cooked, these were not over cooked. The recommended wine, Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, was excellent with the meat. We could not finish ours but it was good the next day too. We will come back to try the other menu items, particularly the lasagna. Service was quick and attentive. Atmosphere was casual and a bit noisy from the crowd around us but ok. read more

We were at the River Bar this past Saturday. Absolutely astounded at how bad the service was. We weren't acknowledged by a server for at least 20 minutes. When they finally came to get our drink order, they got the drinks wrong. We would have left but we were meeting out of town friends here. We hyped this place up to our friends because of the views and we were so embarrassed at how the night turned out. Our order (simple burgers all around!) took over an hour and a half to get to us. Two orders were wrong and our server told us the chef wasn't reading tickets that night. No apologies. Nothing. What kind of chef doesn't read/honor customers simple requests?! River bar service was pretty terrible. Things that happened and observed: 1. It took over 20 mins for a server to come to us. Took our drink order, but nothing happened. 10 mins later another server came and had to retake the order. 2. Asked for water three times. 3. Drinks when they arrived were wrong. 4. Food order came wrong and was extremely slow. No communication to help set expectations. When we stated the order was wrong, the server said the cook was busy and not looking at tickets to cook to order. Funny part - the server never wrote the orders down for anything. I don't think it was the kitchen. 5. Server didn't bring utensils, napkins, etc. 6. Server was visibly wiping hair and face from sweat and handling plates/glasses without washing hands. 7. I had to go to the bar for the check 20 mins after requesting it. They would not split two couples orders from each other. 8. Slow I can deal with, but not trying to make right wrong orders (multiple times) and charging full price isn't right - it's a $20+ burger, not fast food. I expect more at these prices. read more

Such a cute place next to the river. We went on our way to Crested Butte from Denver (stopped in Gunnison for dinner). I think they renovated an old house and it feels homey and has such good character. They have a gorgeous patio overlooking the river that is open for dining and events during the summer. Get their garlic fries! They are spectacular!!! That dipping sauce... omg. We also got their bruschetta (meh). On Monday's their steak is $10 off. My husband got the Pepe and liked it. Despite having a reservation (on a Tuesday evening), our group of disabled vets was seated outside (42 degrees). The service was beyond slow (we were the for over three and a half hours). The food was bland, and overall mediocre. And of course, cold. What was supposed to be a special part of a therapeutic outing for these vets was a huge and expensive disappointment. Found ourselves looking for some home cooking while visiting some friends in Colorado. Was told to try a place called Garlic Mike's for some great Italian food. Absolutely loved this place! Started out at the river bar. Beautiful part of the river but the Cottonwood trees were shedding so bad it looked like snow. Had a margarita for National Tequila day. Could not stay out there with my allergies. Got a table inside for dinner. Call for reserves because this place was packed on a Monday. Started with an Old Fashioned and the wife had peach sangria. Both great. Ordered a nice red blend wine and started with the Barrata ball and tomato salad. Then soup, mushroom for the wife and spinach/chicken for me. Both delish, we had to switch. Came with warm bread. Main course was veal marsala for me with broccoli and garlic mashers. The best veal that I have had in a long time. The wife had the snapper and said the sauce was delicious. oh my, some great Italian food! i had the bolognese sauce with penne pasta. It had a depth of flavor, hints of fresh basil, and oregano. my husband had the salmon it was cooked perfectly. the salads were fresh and the soup was freshly made. We also had the toasted bread with tomato and fresh basil! perfect starter! the drinks were wonderful as was the house red wine! the tables were set so you had plenty of room around your dinner party. We stopped in the other night for dinner (Thursday before Memorial Day weekend). We did not have a reservation, arrived around 7, and they were able to find us a table for two, right in front of the large stone fireplace. The bartender is also the reception/person who greats and seats you, and there was only one server on (he was great). The server came and took our order, and brought over some fresh, warm bread and butter (is there anything better than warm bread)? We ordered salads to start (Caesar and Garden), and both ordered entrees. I ordered the chicken piccata, which comes with pasta (choice of which one you want, however, no angel hair), I went with Linguini. You can also have your pasta with red sauce if you prefer it that way. The chicken was delicious, there were plenty of capers (hallmark of this dish), and I felt it was appropriately portioned. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan which was an enormous plate of food, but very good. We skipped dessert since we were so full. No ranch dressing avail for salads. They were out of the Brut Cuvée and said they had only ordered 6 bottles. Why if it's popular? Have 2 cases on hand instead but only a suggestion. The salad was like just picked from the garden, yum. I ordered their filet mignon medium. OMG, absolutely delish! That magic sauce over the meat went well with the mashed potatoes. We were here on a very busy Saturday night of a holiday weekend so I am going to chalk up a tad slow service on fact they were very busy. We had high hopes for our order based on how popular this place was and the yummy garlic enhanced butter that came with a nice chunk of sliced Italian bread. However, the calamari was just ok. Lite fresh batter but the squid lacked flavor. The Ceasars salad was too dry. My chicken parm was pounded overly thin so that resulted in the overpowering of the breading making it tough and over cooked. The spaghetti and meatballs was ok, meatballs could have been more of a homemade taste and higher grade beef. The atmosphere was ok but a tad noisy inside the main dining room. The place was abuzz so I hope others had better menu choices. Would we go again? Probably not. read more

We drove an hour to have dinner at Garlic Mikes. The location alongside the river is dynamite... We didn't sit out there because it was a chilly October evening so maybe in the summertime this would be a very awesome Riverside dinner We had a party of eight, and several in our party enjoyed the specials of the evening... Prime rib, scallops, elk steak... And enjoyed their corn chowder with crab meat... Six out of eight of us enjoyed our meal... My hubby had prime rib, it was particularly fatty, and also did not come with as you and it took us a while to get a couple tablespoons of au jus... So he was a little bit disappointed... I had lasagna and did not find it to have any flavor... It was a bit meh, my husband tried some and thought the same thing... So we box it up and one of our friends ate it later... The service at the table was very good. However, we had driven an hour so that we could be on time for our reservations and we had to wait almost 30 additional minutes past our reservation to get a table so it made our evening quite a bit longer because we also had an hour drive home ... So that was rather disappointing... The atmosphere is OK, but dated... All in all, we had a good time with all of us, and we had good service once we were at the table. My husband and I probably will not return because we felt that the prices were high for the quality/taste of the food. read more

Our waitress (blonde hair and tattoos on arm) seemed very disinterested in our table since we didn't order appetizers and had two kids. We did spend over $120 for the dinner for four people. Gave a $20 cash tip even though it was not good service and just looked at my credit card bill and I was charged another $25 which I assume she gave herself a tip for! The young lady that gave us water and bread was much more customer service oriented. I gave the young lady a $5 cash tip and thanked her for attentiveness to our table. Will be calling the restaurant as well to discuss the matter about the extra charge on the card. Not ok to charge someone's card for more than what was signed for. I thought the food and atmosphere was fantastic but that is overshadowed by the service and overcharging the card. read more

Have been a regular for 7 years. Have always been pleased with the food. After reading recent reviews, we must of had an off night!! The food was a very disappointing experience. The 3 of us ordered different dishes and none of us could say anything positive! 2 of us had crab & corn soup. Was disappointed how watery and not creamy I thought it would be. More disappointing how COLD it was!! No warmth at all! Our main course also had no warmth either. We talked up garlic mikes to our guest. We knew we were going to be in the Gunnison area near dinner time, so we started researching places to eat. We read the reviews for Garlic Mike's and decided to try it. We loved it. The appetizer-fried calamari- was some of the best we have ever had. The salad was cold, crisp, and well-dressed. My husband and I split a plate of spaghetti and meat balls. The pasta tasted homemade. I don't know if it is or not, but it tasted that way. The meatballs were not over seasoned. The sauce was also perfectly seasoned, very mild. And, ohhhh, the bread. Wonderful. It has been a very long time since we have had service as great as we found here. Someone was frequently checking with us to make sure we had everything we needed. While the food and service rates as "high class", the atmosphere is very casual. If you are lucky enough to have a view of the river, your dining experience will be complete. Went to celebrate our anniversary with dinner and drinks by the river. Their website says the River Bar opens at 4:00. Arrived at 4:50 and was greeted by a short blond haired tattooed waitress wearing a t-shirt that barely covered her chest who yelled at us that "WE DON'T OPEN UNTIL 5:00 AND WE HAVE A LOT TO DO!" I explained that we were going to the River Bar and she said it was closed! Waited about 5 minutes and got a couple of drinks from the inside bar and headed to the river and lo and behold but there were about 8 people already out there with cocktails. This waitress was so rude she should be fired!! We had our sons college graduation party there and used to like to go there for our anniversary - but no more and will not be going back because of this woman's lack of customer service skills! I couldn't find another way to contact the owner-- the website is just promotion and offers no communication tools. We are regulars to Mikes and go to the river bar this time of year. The river bar isn't functioning properly. We had 2 orders of pasta with vegetables, absolutely bone cold, the white sauce was runny and flavorless, the number of veggies was pathetic... we added peas and mushrooms to one dish-- maybe 6 peas.. Ridiculous. Since we are regulars we'll try this again but you need to know that the food wasn't bad, it was absolutely unacceptable. Also, I ordered a tequila drink-- it was advertised with upscale tequila but had well tequila. The server said that that's all you get out here. On a good note, Matt, the guitar player, was fantastic and the river is always a big hit, too. Our bill for 4 was $100 and if I wasn't a regular I wouldn't come back. The service was good. read more

Our waiter was amazing. He recommended a great wine that paired perfectly with our food. My friend ordered the Genochi she said it was Cheesy and tasty & Would order again. Taste traditional with a great creamy sauce. (Her mom is from Italy and makes traditional food.) My mom got the Chicken Alfredo - added mushrooms. She said it was Pretty good. Chicken was a little dry but still very tasty. Would order again. I ordered the Filet mignon So good cooked perfect, Mashed potato's as side. The steak is so good dipped in the sauce. Finished it all would order again. (Our waiter recommended this it was amazing.) This is the second time we have been here. Last year when we came down to Colorado we came into town and are in the outside area. This is such a great place to eat and the staff is amazing and is very knowledgeable about their great food. This is my favorite restaurant in Gunnison. The food is great. My favorite is the filet con pepe with a delicious mustard sauce. I also love when they have elk on their special. My other favorite go-to is Fettuccine alfredo with chicken. But you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Tammy makes great martinis. My favorite are the espresso martini or a cosmo. And of course they have a very large wine selection. Aside from the great food and drinks, they have an amazing staff that treat you like royalty. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and make you want to come back. In the summer months, the river bar is open behind the restaurant next to the river. You can enjoy drinks and a limited menu with live music on the weekends and some week days. Seats fill up fast. read more
