We stopped at Pie-Zan's in Gunnison and unfortunately our experience was pretty underwhelming. My husband ordered the chicken parmesan calzone, but it was overwhelmingly filled with ricotta cheese with only two tiny pieces of chicken, to the point he couldn't eat it. We also ordered the garlic knots, which were doughy and undercooked in the center. I had the Philly steak sandwich, and the meat was very chewy. It was pretty overpriced for meh food. read more

When one door is closed another one is open. Our intention was to go to our regular pizza place. They were closed due to circumstances beyond their control. We turned to Yelp. By reviews this place is rated average. Our experience from the service, the good vibes and the food was wonderful! The service was provided by an outgoing young man who treated everyone with the same enthusiasm. I wish I could remember his name to give him proper praise. We were very pleased with our selection of pizza. The crust was some of the best we have ever had. The portions of the toppings were perfect. They also have the coolest shirts. We bought one for our daughter. They are reasonable priced as well. On a side note: there is a discount for cash purchase. Went to Pie-Zan's for dinner and had such a good time. They have a 21+ downstairs bar and eating area which we sat in. We played pool and darts while we waited for our food. Our server was also really nice. The pasta was good but nothing special. I'd definitely come back for a night out with friends tho. read more

Been wanting to try this place for at least 2 years and they are finally open while I'm in town. Solid deal for $9 slice drink and garlic knots. Not sure why the knots are in oil but at least doesn't make them soggy, they are oily instead. Sauce is ok just not much flavor you can see the tomato and onion in it as it's a little chunky. We stopped in for lunch today & both got the lunch special that is 2 slices & a beverage. Hubs had the pepperoni slices & I had the Ricotta Spinach slices. We also ordered garlic knots. The server was nice and the slices were great! The crust was crispy and the slices are huge! The lunch specials are a great deal. The garlic knots are a bit too oily, but we did eat them...sooo. I went to check out this pizza spot and there isn't much to speak about. I don't know if it's a Colorado thing but what's with the sprinkling of shredded pork. I ordered a veggie pizza with port amd some buffalo wings . I will admkt that the wings were good but the pizza pie was a disappointment right out the box. I specifically ask the girl behind the counter if they sprinkle shredded sausage she stated no we don't. I was like ok cool. I'm from the eastcoast and we put meat on our pizza the only thing shredded is the cheese. The wings were a combo of habanero and sweet barbeque. I enjoyed them and that's the only thing I would go back there for. They have the nerve to state on there outside window that there pizza is like NY . I don't think so. Best pizza EVER! Staff was friendly a accommodating to our pups. The crust on their pizza is spectacular- crunchy on the rim and chewy on the inside. I had the "Extreme" with no green peppers. If you want a decent calzone, they do well with theirs. The side salad that came with the calzone was also great! However, if you want an edible pizza, this is not the spot! It tastes like cardboard. We should have known when we saw the slice the guy sitting next to us attempted to eat but we thought since we were getting a fresh pie, it would be better. Wrong. That and the service, ugh, the service. I know people are running thin these days and I totally get that. But when the server never once checks on you yet you see her standing around chatting and vaping, that's not cool. At least go outside so we can't see you ignoring your customers! And the manager made it all 10 times worse. She was the rudest human I've encountered in a long time. My son ordered the Alfredo spinach tomato mushroom pasta and could only manage to eat half, the serving was so generous! Being #keto, I went for the Gyro, scraped all that yummi-ness off the pita (super soft) onto another plate, drizzled some of the seasoned olive oil the garlic knots rested in, and it was heavenly! The food is still pretty good (and I'm from Brooklyn) BUT: -the person who took my in-person order was brusque -the chicken parm dinner used to have two nicely sized pieces of chicken; our dinners had only one -surprise! 4% credit surcharge In all, my takeout could have been an easy 4 or 5 stars, but those annoying points enumerated above. Good service, but man it can get hot and loud at this restaurant. Main problem is that we had outdoor seats in mid July, so it was really hot and really loud because of the traffic. They keep the whole building open during the summer months, but it's not much better for inside eaters. Other than that it got real packed near 5:00 or so, luckily we avoided the wait since we got there at like 4:30. read more

What was NOT good was getting there and being charged a different price from what was advertised on their website. The response? "Oh yeah, the website's outdated." At least it is for one patron who raced his pickup across the parking lot, weaving through cars and crossing aisles, almost hitting a car driving down an aisle, before sloppily slamming into a parking spot, jumping out, almost getting hit by a car he had just narrowly missed, then dodging and narrowly missing being hit by two other cars driving in front of the restaurant before dashing in the door. Next time I will have what he is having! My meal was pleasant and good, not to die for. I had a small Marcellus (pepperoni, sausage, garlic and red onion) and a pint of Pabst Blue Ribbon from the tap. Crust was tender with a nicely browned bottom. Sauce flavor blended with the toppings rather than show its own character. Meats were generously applied and flavorful. I like a little more browning of the cheese and toppings, but can't complain about this style. The PBR was cold and refreshing. Service was pleasant and efficient, but never made anyone feel rushed. The staff of three (two cooks and a waitress) worked hard to accommodate their patrons requests, including special packaging of some ice cream for takeout apple pie to a nearby campground. read more

We've eaten at pretty much every restaurant in Gunnison--I'm not sure how we missed Pie-Zan's for so long but it's no big loss. Our experience was just so-so. We tried the garlic knots, which are just twists of pizza dough drizzled with oil and herbs and served with some pizza sauce on the side. Ours were doughey with nary a trace of garlic, so I'm not quite sure where the name comes from. Our pizza was tasty and reasonably priced but nothing very special. GREAT STUFF! My teenage son, who eats his body weight per day and has the metabolism of a locust swarm on methamphetamine, was unable to finish his giant calzone thing. Not that he didn't try.
