Kevin, Jordan, Kevin and their team did an awesome job installing 5 solar powered skylights for me. The Velux product they installed for me is very elegant and so far works great. It can be controlled via a manual switch and also by apps/ WiFi. The team removed 5 old skylights, installed new ones in coordination with tile replacement with an excellent roofing team referred by Kevin. In addition to the skylights, the team repaired the drywall that was damaged during the removal of the old products and also was super helpful in the installation of some data cables that I thought would be best to install when the roof was off. We recently had 2 older skylights replaced by Kevin and his crew, and the entire experience from start to finish was pleasant. Kevin (the owner) came and did a thorough examination and gave us a quote that day. He gave us a lot of advice, and recommendations, even when he could have made extra money (for getting an installed/remote shade), he gave us options and told us different things we could do to save money. You can tell he isn't money hungry at all, he truly cares about his clients and making sure their needs are met. When it came time to install, the two guys that worked for him were phenomenal. They respected the fact that I don't wear shoes in my house, and either put on booties or took their shoes off (not while working on the skylights, of course, for safety). This review is long overdue, as Kevin replaced our kitchen skylight almost two years ago. We had an enormous plastic "bubble" skylight which was in need of replacement and Kevin suggested a large custom made, powder-coated metal supporting frame and two Velux skylight units on top of the frame. One skylight is fixed and the other is a solar powered unit which we can open for ventilation. None of the other companies that bid the job were anywhere close to being as creative as Kevin. Quite honestly, Kevin is the best contractor I've worked with in, probably, 5 years. Honest, thorough, conscientious. When I initially contacted them, they said they were about 3 weeks out on coming out which was fine, though I asked if it were at all possible to do before end of year, I'd appreciate it. Randomly, on a Saturday afternoon Kevin called to say he was in the area and could stop by ... In the end, all he needed to do was fix the turn handle on an existing skylight, and then he did a fabulous job cleaning the entire skylight area, including getting the screen out which is a bear. We are living in an era where many tradespeople are just order takers. They have a set list of products and services, and if what you need isn't on that list, they can't or won't do it. Also, many of them spend all their energy telling why you don't really want it, or it can't be done. (What this really means is that they don't want to do it, or are too lazy or running on vapor to figure out a way to do it.) Kevin of Skylight Pros is totally the opposite. Our old skylights were not only falling apart, they were non-standard sizes. Kevin explained exactly what our various options were, including various special order places that he could work through to help us meet our original goals. He also pointed out the price differences, and how we could get almost the same result for far less money. This is what a real contractor does. On top of it all, while he was on the roof he noticed that the cover for the water heater vent had corroded and fallen off, and was lying on the roof. He went to his truck, got a power drill and some bits and some screws, and repaired and replaced the cover on the spot, at no charge. Highly recommended! read more

From bid to follow-up, I have been exceedingly pleased. Keep in mind Skylight Pros is in high demand in San Diego County (because they are great) and schedule your measure/order appointment before you are totally desperate for a new skylight. SP have a great relationship w/the Velux company and it's my guess that is why the time from order to install is faster than other many vendors in the SD area. There is a few week (+) manufacturing time, especially in summer months, but that is a reflection on manufacturers, not Skylight Pros. The crew is trustworthy, prompt, super efficient, clean, courteous and fun/funny. Kevin is a delightful and knowledgeable craftsman. He is a high energy personality, and replaced our one cracked skylight promptly and efficiently. The cost was $850. The options he offered suggested a thorough knowledge; we wish there were more like him. The installation was done with great care directed toward not damaging our interior, and he discovered on our roof loads of accumulated leaves and junk which he discarded for us. He has lots of customers, so we had to wait a while to get him to the house, but after that, he was very fast. Even though Kevin had just had pneumonia the week before, he was able and willing to come out to my client's 20 million dollar house and assess the broken skylight. Unfortunately, it was a job that would require a roofing company and different skills to repair, but he took two hours out of his day, to come look. When I insisted he bill my client, he refused to take the money and referred me to two different companies that would be right for the job. This is an update to my 10/14/10 review. I recently had some work done on the blinds on the skylights. The Velux representative had high praise for the frame that Kevin Lightcap had manufactured for the skylights. He talked about how solid it was and how nicely it will hold up. I know Mr. Lightcap had it manufactured in the mid-west and shipped because of the quality of the work. He has chosen well. The Velux guy says that frames are achilles heels of skylights, the one Mr. Lightcap had made for ours was one of the best he has seen, and it will stand the test of time. read more
