The chili was not very great. I am not the best cook, but I know I could make a better chili myself. Furthermore, it was cold for both my bowl and my mom's 5 way. Perhaps ask for extra hot, if you like warm chili. I also got a Greek salad, which was surprisingly good. The lettuce was fresh, and they had decent feta. Their coffee was really good, too! The ambiance wasn't the most inviting, and we almost decided to not stay when we got here. If these were the only considerations, I would give 2 stars. Then, there is the service. We had Brenda. She was FABULOUS. She was so friendly and personable. She explained everything to us, and it seemed like she wanted us to really enjoy our experience. SHE made the experience memorable! This is the best Skyline Chili in town! Dare I say better than Clifton or Oakley? I dare! I eat here at least once a week. The women who wait tables here are always friendly, and put a high emphasis on customer service. They're always fast, but never grouchy - even during lunch rush. Everyone who works here goes out of their way to make sure your experience is satisfactory. If you want the real Cincinnati chili, head down to the Skyline at 7th and Vine before the game and grab a 3-way and a coney. And remember to tip well! Cincinnati style chili! My husband insisted I had to try Cincinnati style chili during our visit. He requested a sample of the chili to make sure I was ok with his plan. It is very cool that they will bring you a sample if you've never tasted their chili before. I didn't love it because it had cinnamon in it but I'm no party pooper. I believe in eating like the locals so I asked him to order me the three way chili which was spaghetti topped with their signature chili and cheese. Something's not right here. The cheese wasn't as fluffy and delicate as usual. The chili was just luke warm. The cheese coneys were sloppily assembled, with a droopy bottom and hot dog cascading out of the bun. All of the chili ended up in the bottom of my to go box. Thoroughly impressed by the level of customer service here. Very nice, aunt-like servers that gave us small samples and tied bibs around our necks when we told them it was our first time in Cincinnati! The concept of a 3-way is very very similar to spaghetti and cheese with chili instead of meat sauce, but doesn't look very appetizing....until you try it. Flavors actually play really well with each other, especially if you get the habanero cheese (which you really should). I find the chili a little watery compared to what I've been used to, but I would recommend that you try Gold Star Chili as well, and then compare and contrast. This particular location isn't open on Sundays, and is open only for about 4 hours or so on Saturday. BTW: if you like the chili, know that you can get a can at any local supermarket for about $4...pricey but if you're visiting, it's a very local gift for your friends back home. read more

I waited so long for Skyline Chili, and it was worth the wait! This location is located in the Macy's Inc. headquarters, in downtown. Very clean restaurant. Reetta (that's how she spelled it!) was my server, and she made me feel like a VIP. She knew I was form out of town, and made me feel welcomed. I got a four way with onions and a famous hot dog. The chili was sweet, but different and very good. She also tied a bib, which was good because it can get messy. Great service, food came out fast. She even gave a a souvenir bag with an extra bib, hot sauce packets, and some other souvenirs. How nice is that? A truly memorable experience! read more

Ok, I'm a Northern transplant living in North Carolina. I've been in the South most of my life. I'm a admitted food connoisseur who loves to taste indigenous foods from each city I visit. So here I am in Cincinnati. What to try? Chili. Where to go? Skyline. So here I am. The location I visited was downtown, spacious with a large, corner prescience. I walk in and notice a larger establishment with modernize, clean lines that couldn't be from their original design. I've been told the Skyline is the locals' spot so I sit in a booth near the window peering at the downtown pedestrians. My server comes promptly to take my order I get the four-way small chili with a water. (I'm cheap). Very quickly afterwards, oyster crackers come to my table for a seemingly nice snack before the meal. I nibbled on the crackers and wait for my order. Minutes later a small dish enveloped in shredded cheese arrives at the table. Based upon the menu, I was told that it contained spaghetti, chili, beans, and onions mixed in. I tasted it. Unusual. It tasted like small amounts of cinnamon was added to the recipe. I attempted to mix in the 1/4 pound of shredded cheddar cheese to the meal. Not the easiest, but I managed to work it in. It wasn't bad, just different. I could tell by other patrons, this was a Cincinnati staple, so how can I judge? The spaghetti was plain. The chili was....eh, ok, I guess. I think the beans added to the dish and the onions made it a more balanced meal. It Wasn't gross. Wasn't the best thing I've ever eaten. I just appreciated the various styles of fare and finished it up. I learned later that some mix in the oyster crackers into their meal. No, thanks. Came here while visiting from out of town, so obviously had to get a chili item of some sort. Instead of getting the chili on spaghetti like I wanted, I decided to go with the chili dogs and french fries instead. The good thing about these hot dogs is that they are smaller than normal hot dogs so you can pound more and not even realize you are doing it! I went with three dogs all the way and fries. The dogs came with onion, chili and a mound of cheese. If you don't like cheese, I don't understand how that could even be possible, don't get anything with cheese on it here. The cheese comes in mountain servings and nothing else! I really enjoyed my lunch here. The chili was richer tasting then what I am used to but still delicious. The dogs were cooked perfectly and the fries were pretty good as well. The service was just as good as the meal. It's not like you expect white tablecloth treatment at skyline but she was perfect. As an out of towner in Ohio for one night only I had to get the five way chili - the standard chili that comes with spaghetti and 4 lbs of cheddar cheese on it, just with beans and onions as well. I've had spaghetti and chili before but never chili quite like this one. The sweetness of it was so weird, I was confused by every bite. Oddly my fork kept bringing more food to my mouth so I ate the entire thing and by like the 80th bite I was actually enjoying it. Use the oyster crackers, it seems weird to include them but they really did add a crunchy and salty component that would be missing without. I really don't know what to make of this place but it is a staple. You have to try it one if you've never had it before, and this location is as good as any as you can walk off the food baby by heading down to the riverfront or up to the OTR district just a few blocks away. All I could say is wow. Did not expect chili to be good on pasta. To my surprise it was pretty good. We split 2 coneys which are just chili dogs and had a 5 way which is pasta with chili, beans, onions and cheese. If you get a 4 way just take off one of the ingredients. A 3 way is one less ingredient. We had the habanero cheese which is a little spicy but not over the top. Our server was super cool. Pretty much made our experience perfect. If you haven't been here you gotta try it. Just be careful not to over indulge as it is chili and it is fast food style and you will pay for it later if you know what I mean. read more

I have heard about Cincinnati-style chili, and since I was in downtown Cincinnati and going to be there for awhile because a truck traveling down IH-75 had misplaced a large girder beam in the middle of the freeway and NOBODY was going anywhere for awhile... ...I stopped in and tried it. On only a few occasions in my life have I had food which was so good that I started giggling. Cincinnati-style chili is very different from the Texas-style chili that I'm used to. "Different" is NOT synonymous with "bad". In this case, "different" is very, very GOOD. It's hard to explain, but it's a combination of cinnamon, chocolate, Worcestershire sauce, allspice, cloves, cayenne and chili powder served on top of spaghetti with beans, cheese and green onions -- AND IT WORKS! I had the five-way chili. The waitress was an absolute *love* - she got a picture of me with a beatific expression on my face (and giggling!), and she kept the refills coming on my drink. Oh -- be sure to wear the bib they offer: the chili will stain your clothes if it gets on them. Seldom have I enjoyed being stuck in a city while traffic crews cleared a girder beam off the expressway and a large traffic clot cleared as I did this visit to Cincinnati! read more

I ordered the cheese coney, three way and chili cheese fries. The food was provided to me not even minutes after I ordered. Food- I looked at pictures but did not realize how tiny the coney was until I saw it in person. Tons of cheese I ordered mine with onions hold the mustard. But the chili hot dog was ok nothing to write home. The three was plain spaghetti with a sauce that to me really did not have much flavor. It's great that these two are staples and I'm glad I was able to try it. I probably won't be searching for it next time. The chili cheese fries were ok, to me the chili did not have a distinctive flavor that would make me rush back for it. But I am glad to say I did have the experience. typically i would want to give this place a better review, as it is a convenient and quick spot for lunch or early dinner and i work downtown. but taking over a week to post a credit card transaction is not only unprofessional, but incredibly inconvenient and concerning. no one likes to check their balance and see a transaction posted from a place they haven't been in over a week. leads me to believe my security has been compromised because you didn't handle things of an efficient time frame. and then trying to sort this out with management was a joke. just placed blame on the company that processes their transactions. perhaps it's time to consider a new company of this issue is common place. i'll will think twice before stopping in again and i definitely will only do so if i have cash to spend because i now feel like my information is not safe here. read more

Our server greeted us almost immediately and asked if we had ever been there, since we hadn't we were given bibs and a bag for first timers and also given some great recommendations. We each got a couple chili dogs (the spicy cheese is great) plus dad got the three way which he said was also very good.
