Skyline is the only choice for Cincinnati chili in town. I prefer Gold Star of the chains, but you really ought to get yourself down to one of the independent, original places in Cinci. So, Skyline is not a place I usually stop. But I saw they had chicken chili, and I always have to try new things. And it turned out I got to try two new things. I got a chicken three-way, and a regular coney with new(?) habanero cheese. The chicken, well, you can taste the difference, and it's not horrible, but it's just okay. The habanero cheese on the coney added a bit of a bite, but not near the heat I had hoped for. I added hot sauce to the chili, which they thoughtfully brought to the table along with the silverware and oyster crackers. If you like Cincinnati chili, you might like Skyline. I find it a little bland and corporate. Three stars for the food. However, four stars at least for the service. I did not realize they did table service. Maybe not all locations do? I know I've been to some in the past that did not have table service. But here the server was friendly and easy to talk to, and helpful and patient with somebody who was ordering some new-to-them things. Price was reasonable, 20 bucks, and I couldn't quite finish everything. (I got a regular size three-way; they also have small and large.) This visit reinforced that Skyline is not my favorite Cincinnati chili and also that my favorite thing at Skyline is their conies. I like them. A lot. Usually I just get a couple of those and no chili. But I'm glad I tried some new things, and I was very impressed with the service. read more

Came upon a recommendation of a local we met in Pacific Northwest. She said this restaurant is an Ohio thing serving up this particular comfort food - chili on spaghetti topped with a mound of shredded cheese. The kitchen of this diner is open and you can see how they prepare the food. We had the 4-way which is pasta, chili, onions and cheese. Also ordered the Cheese Coney (hotdog). This is always my FIRST stop when I fly into CMH and drive to Circleville. Well, this trip I was on an evening flight, so skipped the Skyline stop my first day. But, I was there everyday for lunch for the next 6 days I changed my orders a bit each visit. I normally get a 4-way without the beans. Had that a couple times. A coworker told me that I had to try this place while I was in Ohio. It's an interesting twist on fast food in that they actually seat you at a table and a waiter takes your order. My wife and I both ordered the Chili Dogs and a Greek salad. The salad was great. I also enjoyed the chili dogs. However, my wife did not. I can understand her complaint. She didn't like the franks that they use, and said they tasted cheap. We let our waiter know and she did tell us that they have sausages as an option for the chili dogs, so that's good to know in case we ever come back. I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. I haven't had Skyline since the 80s at the location that was near OSU campus. Anyway, I just moved back to Ohio after living in FL for the past 20 years. The place is very clean and the server was nice and very attentive. I had 3 cheese coneys and an order of fries. The fries were hot and crispy...basically perfect. Unfortunately, they don't have mayo, which I like to dip my fries in. The coneys were really good, the cheese on top started to melt a little. I LOVE Skyline so you will rarely see me rate it anything less than 5 stars. I have come through this drive-thru often with my sister. She has four kids and a husband so our orders are typically pretty big. The staff does an excellent job of making sure we have everything before we leave. On our most recent trip, the cashier named everything within each bag as he handed the individual bags to us. Sure enough, we had it all. Great customer service and friendly staff! My go-to is the three way with a chilito. You can't beat the Skyline chili taste and of course the cheese is fantastic. If you have not had Skyline, you need to get here ASAP to try it out. It was entirely way too much cheese for the cheese dog and cheese fries. The food wasn't served hot enough to melt the cheese. My friends and I were in Columbus and the locals said we must try out Skyline Chili. So we did, despite it being out of our way. I was especially not happy since I had a 10 hour drive ahead of me that day. Welp, it was AWESOME. The food was fantastic. I had a 4 way chili thingie with onions (not a fan of beans) and it was the best non-gourmet chili I've had. One of my friends had the vegetarian beans and rice thing and she claimed it was also amazing. I didn't try it since I didn't like beans, though. We had some funnel cake fries (exactly what they sound like) afterwards and despite feeling horrible for eating them they were utterly delicious. Two of our party were from Texas and they also had high praises of the place. The staff was super duper awesomely friendly too. I usually don't write reviews for chain restaurants, but this visit was so special that I had to comment. Was taking my long-hair hippie buddy from San Francisco out for a quintessential Ohio taste treat at Skyline. He'd never even heard of this culinary masterpiece so off we went to the location closest to my house. We were seated and served by a delightful lady to whom I explained my pal was a Skyline Chili newbie. She was so nice - she explained how the chili was prepared and how it differed from the common mans' understanding of a bowl of red. She went over each menu item and she then made suggestions for selections from said menu and skipped away to put in the order. We were slightly aghast at the fact that someone who worked at a chain food joint would be so enthusiastic. The food came and was delish, as usual. Larry won't go into details on the food as there are plenty of other reviews that do a fine job. About halfway through our meal, the manager, a young man named Najee came over and inquired as to the meal and service. He also mentioned a special welcome to my pal as a newbie and waxed luxuriously as to how awesome the food and the company was. We were both awestruck, as this kind of thing just never happens any more. Wow. Not only that, Najee came over with a "Welcome to Skyline" to go bag with menus and other goodies and thanked us both personally for our business. So, if you happen to be passing by, stop in for a meal and say hi to Najee and his inspired team. I may be the grinch of Skyline chili and you won't like my review. I dislike their chili. In fact can you call it chili when it's sweetened with cinnamon and sugar or whatever sweetener they add to it? I don't think so. I want real chili, Texas chili, steak chili, kinda hot chili, chili with beans, not sugar. The stuff to me is more like sweet paste or goop. It doesn't look like chili or taste like chili. I've tried something that was supposed to be regular chili. Still more like paste with out sugar. Pros: Skyline chili is clean and food is hot. People do like it. I just don't think it should be called chili. If you know what real chili is you may not like it. So if your a traditional chili man or woman, your most like me and will dislike it. read more

It wasn't until August 2014 that I became a fan of Skyline after going to the Elite event in Canal Winchester. There, I realized I had been missing out on some deliciousness! This Skyline Chili is next door to my current workplace... Bob Evans Farms. As I cannot get Skyline Chili in Alabama, I take every opportunity when I'm in Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, Clearwater or Columbus to get a Five-Way and a Cheese Coney. They now have the Extreme Habanero Cheese full-time which is a bit tastier than the standard Cheddar (but Cheddar is great too). I have not tried the Burrito or other menu items because I cannot get away from the Five-Way. read more

Ok, so my friend who lives in Chillecothe told me we are going to eat here before I fly back home. He warned me that its not the kind of chili you are used to have , they put cinnamon in it. He ordered a small 5 way ,and 3 chili cheese dogs. I wasn't too hungry and didn't want to get stuffed before 2 flights, so I just ate one of the chili cheese dogs. I was nervous about the first bite, but took it anyways. There is a ton of soft pillowy shredded cheese on each dog, along with a nice portion of chili. The hot dogs are kind of small too. The bun was nice and soft like it was baked that morning. The chili had an odd taste of cinnamon, but that didn't bother me at all. all in all a great food experience. I immediately called and since I was not willing to make another 30 minute round trip for cheese and onions they offered to send me what they call "oops" card in the amount of $10. This was another of our "let's do as the locals do" trials. Now, Cincinnati chili is something that is new to me. However, the whole three-way, spaghetti chili concept is not, as I grew up in the St. Louis area and we had that at Steak n Shake as well as every local diner when I was a kid. I have to agree about the "acquired taste" comment. A little too much cinnamon for my tastes, but as a fan of Texas chili, I can certainly appreciate the lack of beans. The service was extremely friendly, and very fast. I can't tell you enough how nice the entire staff was. I had chili three way, and my wife had it five way (I think) with onions. We were both pleased with the quality as well as the quantity...the portions are BIG, and I should have just gotten the smallest size, but went with the medium. Have heard so much about Skyline Chili so, since I was driving through Columbus, I thought I'd try it. The place was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Prices were decent. I asked what they were noted for and the server said their Cheese Coney and their Three Way Chili. I order a Coney and a small 3-Way. Big disappointment. It was nothing special. The spaghetti was overcooked and the "secret recipe" chili tasted like any canned chili. The Coney was also nothing special. I have no idea what all the fuss is about this place. If their chili is their signature dish, then any of the other chili based items on the menu would suffer from the same failing, namely substandard chili. Perhaps it has something to do with the history of the place, being started by a Greek immigrant. Maybe this was Greek style chili but it certainly wasn't Texas, Tex-Mex, or anything else other than Hormel canned chili or the like. At least now, when the "In Crowd" wax poetic about Skyline Chili, I can make informed comments. Sadly, they will be negative. read more
