Fun... But pretty terrifying if you're afraid of heights. You get about 4 full rotations which is more than it seems considering this thing is GINORMOUS... It offers a full view of Niagara Falls Ontario's Clifton Hill area as well as a beautiful view of the Falls in all their glory! The pods, which are completely plexiglass surrounded seem to be UV protected as they have a tinted film on them and are temperature controlled, with a call button to the bottom incase you want to contact your operator to say "haaayyyyy!"... Amazing panoramic views of the area. The SkyWheel is a fun way to see the falls and the city in an air conditioned pod. This would be fun for families or couples. There really wasn't much of a line when we went. You can't bring food on the ride, which was nice since it keeps the pods very clean. There is relaxing music playing (this can be turned off). They say the ride is usually 10 minutes (going around about 3 times) but our ride went around about 5 times. We weren't rushing to get anywhere so we didn't mind the bonus rides. I stopped by here during a road trip to Niagara Falls -- definitely a must-go attraction if you have kids and have some time to kill. The line was a bit long around 8pm on a summer Friday, but it was a fun experience to see the falls from a higher view. I wanted to time out watching the fireworks from the SkyWheel, but was told that watching the fireworks from the Canadian side right by the falls is the best. There were a lot of other attractions and touristy things to do nearby. I'm not a fan of amusement parks. I went on a Ferris Wheel once, and I hated it. At a carnival, they seated myself and another person on one side of a double-sided seat, so I felt like I was going to plunge backward to my death the entire ride. Never again, I swore. But then I saw the Skywheel in the distance. The Skywheel is SO much better than a Ferris Wheel, because: 1. The seats are in small "pods," which are: 1a. Enclosed 1b. air-conditioned 1c. secured to the wheel - no wobbling! 2. The employees will not cram you in with another group. Each pod fits about 4 people (maybe more with small children), but if you have a group of two, you get a pod to yourself. At $10 a ride, it was totally worth the surprised look on my husband's face when I asked, "Hey, you want to go on the Skywheel?" I found a coupon in a tourist booklet at the casino for $1 off each ride. Keep an eye out for these booklets at hotels and other touristy locations. Each ride lasted several minutes, or about three full rotations. While riding the Skywheel, you'll also get a nice view of the falls and the dinosaur mini-golf. For photo freaks, take a walk down Clifton Hill at night to see the Skywheel all in lights. The Skywheel is one the of the best (if not one of the only) attractions for adults in Clifton Hill, aside from the falls, so be sure to take a ride. read more

The skywheel is nice, it's got A/c and heat in the individual card during the summer and winter months. It's a main attraction on Clifton hill. There's ALWAYS a line up no matter what day you go! Especially in the summer time, it get's crazy busy down on Clifton Hill. I have been on the Skywheel twice. It's just a ferris wheel, there's nothing spectacular about it. The view is nice, and at night time you can see lights and the hill all lit up, but overall it's slow moving, and a bit boring in my opinion. It wasn't fun, it was a nice way to relax after a busy day, but waiting in the line up isn't worth it! Plus, it's expensive! read more

It's a 175ft enclosed Ferris wheel. It looks less intimidating until you get in and start your journey. Then it feels just like any other Ferris wheel and you are like what did I just get myself into. If they only had an audio recording of our pod it would be quite hysterical. It was a great funny terrifying experience. We went at night when the Falls were lit up. Very pretty. For the most part the ride is smooth. Only rocks as much as your group moves the pod...so don't move! I think if I could have had something in front of me to hold onto...like on a Ferris wheel I would have felt much better about the situation. It was still a great experience. Reinvigorating the falls, and Clifton Hill in particular, with new and exciting attractions seems to be the mandate of the past few years. Though the process isn't anywhere near complete, the Skywheel is a step in the right direction. The view from the top of the wheel is spectacular day or night. I've gone for both and personally I enjoy the serene view in the early morning, but if the night is your preference, you won't be disappointed. All of the cabins have air conditioning for hot summer days and it's a good thing because the cabin is almost entirely glass to get you the best view. One cold winter nights, the cabin stays nice and warm, though it can get a little scary for those not so comfortable with heights (like my girlfriend). The slightest move will have the entire cabin creak as it sways with your body-weight. The crew is kind and helpful. The cabins seat up to six, but they will usually let you go two to a cabin. However, if it is a busy day, you'll probably get stuck sitting with a couple of strangers if you're not in a group of six. The Skywheel is included in a bunch of deals around town that include some of the other nearby attractions. I would suggest it if you've never been. It's an interesting way to see the Falls. Not to mention, it breathes new life into the area in the night with it's lights. read more

Fun way to see the falls and the city, while getting to relax for a bit in an air conditioned 'pod' with your family! Yup, it is a tourist trap but it was worth every penny! Worth it! (Especially if you purchase a Fun Pass!) Excellent view for photos and temperature controlled pods. You can turn off the music as well (piped in music, makes it very cosy.) The ride is long and does a few full rotations- and somehow, you always end up stuck at the top for a while, which is amazing for photos (but scary if you're afraid of heights!) I just wish there was more of a "handle" inside the pods- very intimating looking down over the falls! Love this attraction, though, touristy or not- the best way to see the Falls besides the Maid of the Mist! I give this ferris wheel five stars based on my love for dinosaurs. We got on the wheel late at night to get an illuminated view of the falls and catch the Niagara scene at night. To be honest, the view of the falls was pretty limited in the dark. What made the wheel worth the five-star rating was the view of the dinosaur mini-putt course. I'm a dinosaur fanatic, so my boyfriend and I spent most of the ride admiring the course and the volcano/waterfall on the course. The coolest thing about the volcano/waterfall is that every so often, the top of the volcano shoots out a bunch of fire. Really cool to watch at night when you're on the top of the ferris wheel! We felt like we were escaping Jurassic Park! The pods themselves were nice and spacious, are climate-controlled, and the music can be muted (thank goodness, because it was elevator-type-music). I'd recommend this ride for dinosaur-viewing purposes, less so for the falls (then again, I'm a bit of an eccentric gal). read more

I never actually got to experience the Falls Tower Ride before it became the Niagara Skywheel but nonetheless in Niagara even a neighbouring Torontonian becomes a tourist and does the routine attractions. Niagara Skywheel($9.99) where you can find various Tourist Booklets that give you Dollar off or allows you to be a combination package. The rude and uncaring girls at the booths were offset by the friendly happy gentleman that operated the ride. During this season, no line ups during the morning and yes we went during the morning so we can see the view properly before the sun sets around 5 pm. We stay warm in the climate control cabin and had guided instructions for a few buttons. Skywheel isn't an amusement ride but it's more of a tour ride, so don't expect to have the same feel as if you get off a roller coaster. It's a completely stable non-wind shaking Ferris Wheel which loses some of the excitement but it still looks good as a WHITE color based attraction nice for photos. We were able to see the US Falls and the Canadian Falls were a bit further to see but can just squeeze it in. We looked to the opposite of the falls and it just seems to be a small town area aside from the Clifton Hills colorful attraction displays. read more

If you're in the area, go on the skywheel. I was debating whether to go on it during the day (you can see the city) or at night (Niagara Falls with the lights on-but the rest of the city is dark). I opted for the day ride, it was a great view, but the cost for my 8 minute ride is debatable. Turns out I live 90 minutes away from mini Las Vegas. How I've avoided this so long, I'm not sure. I mean, I'd hit the falls, but never Clifton Hill. Over breakfast in the city, my Skywheel Mate and I made an impromptu decision to go to Niagara Falls for the day. This day quickly turned into an overnight, which quickly turned into hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Anyway, this warning likely doesn't come as a surprise. Bright lights and grown up amusement parks really aren't my bag, but everyone should check this place out once. The Skywheel is an ideal way to check out both the falls and Clifton Hill. It's $10 for the 10 minute ride and the views are spectacular. The pods are small enough that you don't ride with strangers and every angle has a great photo op. Waterfalls not your thing? What about a two story dinosaur ruling over a put-put. See? Something for everyone! PEPPER PRIDE: I am quite nervous with heights but this pod-style car made it OK. I didn't whimper or wince at all. The only big problem with the wheel is the fact that it's so lit up, a glare is created on the plexiglass cabins, making it hard to see outside and almost impossible to take a good night-time picture of the falls. And did I mention, that this is by far the most advanced ferris wheel I have ever been in?? There is a automated message that would place within your passenger car. There are also buttons for you to press if you want to have lights on within your car or not, which is a very big difference from the Wonder Wheel from Coney Island, Brooklyn. $11 ride for 5-6 spins during the late afternoon, which was definitely worth the money, especially since we got our own private pod which was air-conditioned. There were short to no lines, probably because the view was only amazing for the first 30 seconds. Then it was just talking amongst ourselves in our private pod (which was actually relaxing), watching families play mini golf below in the Dinosaur-themed course, and having water drip on us from the air conditioning condensation. Maybe the view would have been better during the nighttime when the Falls are illuminated. read more

This is the one "touristy" thing we did on the Canada side of Niagara Falls. It's a bit pricey at $10.99/adult for 4 times around on the big wheel (look for a $1 coupon in those touristy brochures they have at every hotel), but in my opinion, it was worth it. We went on the wheel at night to see the Falls all lit up. We didn't get the clearest view, because it started raining while we were inside. It was great that the pods are temperature controlled and full enclosed, so we didn't get rained on. There was also no wait when we went, and because it wasn't busy, we took a few extra loops on the wheel. Kind of romantic, not too cheesy, and fun. read more

IF i ever go to Niagara Falls again, I probably won't ride it again. There were these 2 EXTREMELY RUDE girls working at the ticket booth and completely ignored us for a good 5 minutes and even while we were paying they were having their own conversation and their mannerisms were not friendly at all. My friends and I could not believe how rude they were and have never been treated that way before. I definitely recommend this! As of August 2015 tickets for just the skywheel were $11/per person. Only takes about 8-10 minutes and you go around 3 times. This doesn't look that high from the ground but once you get up there you're like "holy shit, I want to get down now!" At least that's how I felt. It wasn't so bad if the wheel kept turning but it was not fun when it stopped when we were at the top so they could let more people on. We waited until it got dark so we could see the falls illuminated but I think it would have been a better view during the day. All the lights from the surrounding area cause quite a reflection and it's not THAT close to the falls so they are just lights in the distance. My family enjoyed the Skywheel. It was a decent day with average humidity. We went around 4 or 5 times even though the sign said 3 times. It cost $10.99 + ripoff HST tax which isn't cheap. Well, my family enjoyed it...I was white-knuckling the entire time. Did very much appreciate that the cars were fully enclosed & climate controlled. That was a big plus! We went around several times & felt they'd given us our money's worth; it wasn't just a once around and done like some others I've been on. Went in the early afternoon midweek in May and there were no lines at all. Lots to see from way up there. Great people watching too. Despite my loathing of very high places, I felt reasonably safe.
