Sky wood is our local go-to for groceries when we don't have time to go over the hill. They have a good selection. The prices are higher than what you would pay on the Bayside, but that is the price of convenience for local groceries. A drive along Skyline has become somewhat of a tradition for my son and I on sunny Sundays. A stop at Skywood Trading Post marks the halfway point between home and San Gregorio State Beach (our final destination). Along with all our favorite junk food junkie fixins, we can also get: Gasoline Hot or cold deli sandwiches Cold drinks of every type Firewood Of particular interest to us is the people-watching here. My eye is drawn to the hot guys on Ninja's, while Dante enjoys ogling the variety of exotic cars and chatting it up with their owners (while I ogle them). As busy as this place gets on the weekends I'd imagine it's a tradition not just for us, but for many. Definitely stop-worthy if you find yourself playing in the mountains. read more

If you're up on the mountain this is the closest place to civilization. We ran down for sandwiches the other day. They don't have gluten free bread until summer but the deli was able to make me a great veggie wrap on lettuce. My husband had a giant meatball and dolmas. He said both were great. Great pit stop on Skyline / Hwy 9 runs on the motorcycle. Nice deli and food selection. They stock some of the harder to find stuff like dirty potato chips... so this isn't 7-11. Just a nice place to stop, grab a red bull / 5 hr/ coffee, a snack, rest, and get back on the road. It's also not the harley haven which is across the street. This is where the street bikers come, look at each other's bike, meet up, etc. Love this place. read more

Are you a biker? Like motorcycles or interesting and eccentric cars? Then this is a must visit destination. Skywood Trading Post, the deli/supermarket/gas station at the intersection of highways 84 & 35 at the top of the Santa Cruz mountains is one of the very coolest spots in the bay area. Situated across from Alice's, Skywood provides the parking lot for some of the best bicycle, motorcycle and car scenes in the bay area with an emphasis on motorcycle. The owners are very cool and supportive of the whole scene, which if you are interested in mechanical things is irresistable. I have seen everything from front like superbikes to Ferraris, roadsters from the 1920's to Ariel Atoms. Cobras rumbling, Lambos howling, psychos doing one legged stand up wheelies on GSXRs and old people on Goldwings. Drinks, munchies etc are all available, so support the scene, go in and get something and stroll up and down the row checking out the bikes and cars. read more

I was on the road in the morning and needed breakfast on the go. It's not a traditional breakfast choice, but I was craving a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was SO GOOD! It was literally the perfect PB&J and I felt like a kid. Also it was only $2.99! That's my only experience - but for real, the PB&J was legit and deserved a review. This place rocks for letting all the motorcyclists park in his lot. It's a popular spot on the weekends, but a ghost town during the week. I'm forever grateful for him letting me pay him (cashier/owner?) for my water on my next visit when it turned out I forgot my wallet at home. Good place and good people. Cheers. read more

This is a great stop for a deli sandwich and soft drink when my wife and I are on our motorcycle enjoying Skyline Blvd. (Hwy 35). The sandwiches are great and the service is friendly. If you're there around midday on a weekend day you can see between 100-150 motorcycles come and go in an hour...all makes and vintages. Great fun! read more

When I first came to skywood it was a good and well stocked place. The people there had very good attitudes, and they were all so nice. The deli girls are so nice when they take are order, and they make there sandwiches with love. And the sandwiches are so good and they have it so well made and so much more. Everyone at Skywood Trading Post has been nothing but respectful, helpful, and warming. Ever since I moved to Woodside, barely ever going into the store, they were always helping me find something and answer questions. They were great conversation starters and always made you feel fulfilled with everything even during a rush. I decided to finally apply there and immediately get an interview the day after. I was nervous, but Dylan - the manager - made it such an easy, loose environment and made it seem simple. After working there for the year, I can definitely say that we do our best to satisfy outlet customers and make conversation even ok our bad days. Every day there's a "good morning" or a "hello!" Right as you walk in. It's never a place you want to avoid even if you worked there 9 days straight. Even on our bad days I notice how their behavior towards customers never change - always jovial and welcoming. They do their best to help those who don't have English as their first language with workers who can translate & are good at guessing what you want as hard as it can be. The food is always cooked and toasted perfectly and even if there is a mess up, never be afraid to let them know! They will instantly fix the issue. Never be afraid to talk to the workers either! They're super social and very open to conversation. Always had a great experience with 100% effort put behind it. Skywood is the most family oriented business I've ever experienced. This is my "neighborhood" grocery store. The owners are great. They listen to the requests of neighbors and try to stock what is needed/wanted. In addition to the predictable staples, they have a good selection of high-end cheeses, bread, snacks, desserts, wine, etc. They also carry local products, which is nice for the neighborhood. read more

Excellent deli! I visit the market regularly, but this is the first time ordering a breakfast burrito from the deli. Christine, Shelby and Gina who work behind the deli counter on Sunday mornings are such a delight! Not only make a scrumptious burrito they have cheerful dispositions and heartwarming smilies. Great little store and well stocked too and I'd give it 5 stars except for the attitude dropped by the older lady and the son (?). Man, if you don't like your job, don't do it but getting annoyed at customers for trying to buy stuff and have a conversation is just sad. I stood in line behind about 5 others and each transaction was at best neutral and most unpleasant. Makes me not want to buy anything here cuz it helps you! Lady and son: I hope your days get better. Shout out to the younger woman behind the counter. She seemed friendly and helpful but unfortunately wasn't customer-facing. Keep the other two making sandwiches and put her up front! read more

This is a three-star place that gets an extra star for being basically the only store around for miles. They have all the basics: milk, cheese, ice cream, and several kinds of wine and beer. But you'll also find some surprises: cake mix, cupcake papers, Nutella, and baklava(!). The bread isn't especially fresh, so either avoid it or double-check for mold. But everything is basically okay, if a little pricey. The guys who work here are super nice and always greet me with a friendly smile. Not a good place for grocery staples, but thank goodness they're there, because how else would I deal with random ice cream cravings on days I don't feel like driving down the mountain? read more

Overall this place is great service, but I have to comment on the hygiene when making sandwiches. Two out of two visits now for sandwiches I have seen the male employees not wearing gloves when preparing and handling the food. It may be coincidence but the female employees do. Not sure if this is the law, but its not very appetizing especially when not seeing them visibly wash their hands. Apart from this the sandwiches are pretty good! read more

I adore this little market and deli. I've been stopping in since the 70s. The location is beautiful at Skyline and La Honda Roads. They have a surprising array of groceries and delicacies, plus wines and beers. They have a wonderful deli with delicious offerings. It's a great stopping place if you're in that area.
