I love this place. I can't give them five stars for a couple of reasons, but they are a little better than four stars. The biggest downfall is they stop serving food earlier than they stop serving drinks. As a woman, it's awkward to go into a place and sit there drinking. Or maybe it's just me. I was here the other day. It happened to be taco Tuesdays. The tacos were delicious . I also Had chicken wings . The chicken wings were ok . For dessert the lava cake with ice cream perfect dessert. While trying to find a brunch spot, Slanted Tree popped up on my Yelp feed. Bottomless mimosas?! I'm there in a heartbeat. I emailed the restaurant prior for reservations and gave them my information, but it seems they never got a chance to confirm my reservations. No biggie, we were able to get seated right away with a party of 11. Hooray! Our server, Parker was amazing! With so many people and so many requests, he was able to provide all of our requests with such grace and a smile. I always seem to order the Huevos rancheros every time they have it available at a restaurant, so that's what I got. We also ordered the chicharrones for the table. They came out nice and warm. My food was good, but the company was even better. I am glad this taproom is able to offer brunch and mimosas on the weekend. The oil they use here is so rancid! I got food poisoning once but in denial, attributed it to something else. Last weekend some friends and I came for lunch and the oil was super old again. We came in for my daughters birthday last night. We had a party of 9 and called ahead for seating. We were seated right away which was the only good part of the meal. Our server, Jesus, was terrible. He took forever just to come greet us, he didn't remember to get us waters and had to be asked multiple times. We asked for two tasters for beer and then ordered what we liked the most. He never brought that beer. He also never brought the kids drinks. We didn't get those until we were done eating and had reminded him more than once. The food was terrible. The steak was over cooked and impossible to cut with a knife. It was supposed to be medium and was like beef jerky. The fish and chips were flavorless and greasy. He never came by so we could change out the steak so my mom just didn't eat. We tried flagging him down and he didn't come over. It was not busy. It was supposed to be a special night for my daughter and it was just ruined by the crappy service and bad food. I had to track someone else down to get us cashed out because after asking for our check, Jesus never came back. I would not come back nor would I recommend this business. read more

Swing and a miss! On our way to Tahoe we decided to grab a bite. If I could go back in time, I would eat at any other place in the parking lot. Only reason this place got two stars instead of one is the customer service wasn't bad. Our server was attentive. The food was bland at best. Chips on the nachos were burnt. Chicken was bland and flavorless but it was cooked well and juicy. Waffle was dry AF. Every bite needed a drink of water and getting that water refilled was a shot in the dark. The place seemed clean and has a nice atmosphere. Overall a big fail on everything. We didn't even finish our food it was soo bad. My order was Steak Nachos ($14.95) and hooboy, it was a meal! Being a San Diegan, I'm sort of a nacho-hound, and these nachos were superb. The quantity was magnificent, as was the quality. Fresh, warm, site-made chips, plenty of cheese, jalapenos, diced onion, sour cream, Pico de Gallo, guacamole and salsa. And yes, nice chunks of steak. Wow. They have taco tuesdays (though it's not on the main menu), and they're pretty decent with a side of alc! Can choose from fried fish, carne asada, fried shrimp, etc. They also have the usual burgers, fries, nachos, jalapeno poppers, and other bar bites. My classmates and I come here to hang out every once in a while to socialize and it's a good time. Two separate rooms of seating. Sometimes service can be slower (esp when we come with larger parties), but they graciously let us split checks and we don't need the extra frills. Super Cute Wife and I found Slanted Tree Kitchen & Taproom after our cross country journey and checking into the hotel we were staying at nearby. We needed a little bit of food and some drinks. Yelp reviews were pretty good so why not. They have a decent variety of beer on tap. I went with the Founders Double Trouble IPA as the description looked appealing and it was delicious. SCW had an east coast IPA and enjoyed hers as well. We ordered the fried pickles to nosh on which came with a spicy aioli and ranch on the side. The pickles were quite good. The interior is nice, warm wood colors and looks to be some repurposed items which is cool. You can sit at the bar or at the tables for more private setting. Look for the slanted trees! After a busy day of hiking, I was looking for a tap room or a brewery, and this place really fit the bill. It's easy to get to, wirh plenty of free parking out front. There are also some of the cheapest gas stations nearby. The bartenders who work here are really helpful and friendly, and explained some of the local sites for me. They also explained the mystery of the name of this business. Special shout-out to Lexie and Conor, the bartenders here on this cool Saturday afternoon. They were really fantastic and helpful. They really add a nice touch to this business and made me feel right at home. I am coming back. The bartenders explained that it's called slanted tree because the wind is so fierce, it turns all the trees slanted. They also suggested that sometimes the patrons are slanted after drinking so much beer. I have never noticed that before, but perhaps they're correct. I ordered # 7, the Fort Point Beer villager. $7 for 16 oz draft. Very tasty beer, which really hit the spot. To accompany my beer, I ordered the three meat chili for $6. They assured me it is a very popular meal. It turned out to be a tasty meal with a little kick to it. Makes a great companion to beer. Here is a special secret so don't tell anybody else: The Irish nachos are to-die-for! $9. The happy hour, which is from 3 to 6 weekdays, includes $2 off beer and appetizers. This is a pretty cool place, but if functions much better as a bar than a restaurant. Great location, good ambiance, fantastic selection of beers. However, the food is extremely inconsistent and the service leaves a lot to be desired, (with the exception of the lead bartender). So far I've had the flat iron steak sandwich, which was probably the best thing I've had. On the other hand, it had a ton of inedible fat on one half of the sandwich and the fries were not the beer battered steak fries I was expecting, but rather the thin kind, and I would say they were definitely not 'beer battered'. The fried chicken sandwich was so sloppy with so many sauces it just fell apart and became a mess I had to eat with a fork and knife. Also, the Cole slaw on it was not a complimentary flavor at all and the breading on the chicken wasn't really crisp like it should be. The BLAT IS good, but the description says "toasted", when it's actually fried on a griddle with butter, which makes it less healthy for those who care, and a greasy mess for your fingers and lips. The Kobe Beef burger was excellent, however, way too much salt on the burger pattie kind of killed it for me. The Thai peanut butter bacon burger is OK, but it didn't tickle my taste buds. Maybe I'm just not a fan of peanut butter on burgers, but its one of their longest served items, so I'm sure there must be a market for it. The southwestern steak salad was OK, but again, the meat was unreasonably salty. They also toss the salad in dressing but the menu doesn't specify that. Never a good idea because if someone doesn't like it you've wasted a whole salad, and if it sits too long it gets soggy, especially with hot meat on it. Some of the servers and bartenders seem to either not have a clue how to manage tables or just don't care. Although, that seems to be the trend everywhere now. All of that being said, it's still a great place to down some pints of good beer and hang with friends or watch the game. But I'd stick to appetizers here unless you want to pay $20 for a subpar dining experience. Overall, I give it 2 stars as a restaurant, but 4 stars as a bar, for an average of 3 stars total. read more
