Love La Provence. This was our first time at the Petite location on Alberta. We visit Portland a couple times a year and always end our trip with brunch here. Sunday morning at 11am my husband and I got a seat at the bar. It was pretty busy. As usual the fresh croissant was amazing, flakey, and buttery. I had the chefs omelette for the first time. It was exactly as I wanted it and the hash browns were nice and crunchy. My husband had the corned beef hash and it was so flavorful and delicious. I will order that next time. I hadn't been in here in about a decade, but found it looks exactly the same as I remembered it. Staff members were polite enough. We were in at lunchtime and very pleasantly surprised at how quickly our food came. We shared a tuna melt, and very glad we had made the decision to share since it came and was absolutely ginormous. I love that they include tomato on it and some great cheddar cheese, but also appreciate the way the tuna is made, with some solid pieces of tuna, plus interestingly, some very finely diced carrot, which gave a slight sweetness and crunchiness to each bite. This was a really great sandwich. We had fries as our side and the french fries were perfectly golden. They are battered, but the batter was very light. Very good. My daughter's latte was excellent. Too full to have dessert, but we did take some croissants home for later; they just look so good. Everything in their dessert case is beautiful. read more

Great food! Mediocre service. We visited the Lake Oswego location and were seated on the patio by a rather lack luster hostess. Server was ok. Food arrived in a reasonable time frame by a different server. **But** the bread on my salad was clearly not the gluten-free I had asked for! When I brought it to the server's attention she lifted the bread off the salad and turned away. I had to ask her to bring a new salad as the one in front of me now had been glutened. A new salad appeared fairly quickly with gluten-free bread so I can only hope thst the kitchen staff did indeed make a new salad. The server never came back to the table to ask if everything was ok or if we wanted desserts. And getting her attention for to-go boxes and the bill was frustrating. This place has gone downhill so much over the years. The croissants are often dry and stale and the food is bland and flavorless. I think they gave up trying or they have chefs who simply do not care about the quality of what they are making. We used to get great food but in recent years it has tanked, sadly. read more

I enjoyed my visit to Petite Provence. I hadn't been in a while and I was reminded of why I should go more often. The vibe is chill, the service is good, and the food is great. I had a salad and the French Onion soup. My food was delicious! I also had a Matcha Latte and while I don't normally enjoy Matcha, I thought the drink was delicious and I enjoyed it. I would definitely visit again. There is lots of inside seating as well as some covered outside seating. There is street parking which can be tricky to find a space. Love the cozy Euro vibe on the inside with the warm wood tones and metal accents -- sure makes you wanna linger for a bit. Also digging the offbeat menu that includes some old reliables but also takes chances -- my Risotto Cakes and Eggs was a delight, with the mushrooms and red onions in the lightly breaded cakes pairing perfectly with the two poached eggs on top. The whole thing was a pile of warm oozing goodness, and my fruit side was pretty hefty too (though mostly grapes and pineapple). Server was very pro, polite and thoughtful and on point with the order -- our service was efficient yet warm. A great meeting spot too. Parking can be a hunt in this hood though. read more

We were seated right away at 9am on a Sunday. I immediately noticed old food stains all over the fabric chairs and bench. It was everywhere. It was surprising to me that they would use fabric on their chairs at all and that no one made an effort to clean it at the end of the night. Our server was curt and seemed agitated or annoyed the whole time. Everyone at our table noticed it. Thankfully, the food was delicious. I enjoyed the omelette that was stuffed with mushrooms. The hash browns were perfectly cooked, and the croissant and jam never disappoint. Still with no many amazing place to enjoy breakfast in Portland, the service and cleanliness were big enough let downs to go elsewhere next time. The best thing about petite provence is sitting outside on Alberta on a Summer afternoon. The service is usually very good and then in terms of the food itself. It's well mostly forgettable. I know I've had the French onion soup there and an omelette or two, but I can't remember anything about the food which is unfortunate. But it's not bad. It's just not very memorable. read more

Very good soup. Nice depth of flavor, tender pieces of onion, the croutons were chewy and crunchy somehow. Great cheese pull and also crispy. How did the do that so well. They are busy. Took a bit to get seated. Then a bit to be seated, chose to sit outside so not as long of a wait. The food arrived quicker than expected for the three of use. One of us had the grilled fresh albacore tuna sandwich on sourdough. It was grilled perfectly. The other had an omelette with hash browns which thy thoroughly enjoyed. Finished with Rose Macaroons - simply awesome! The inside of the restaurant was very pleasant. Overall a solid breakfast place. I was in the east side of Portland waiting for the PDX Thai festival to start and decided to eat here for breakfast since I had a few hours to go. I tried the strawberry French toast and eggs Benedict on croissant and both dishes tasted great. The strawberry French toast had a nice sweetness overall that wasn't to overbearing. One thing id say is for the price I paid for, it would have been nice for this dish to be accompanied along with something else besides just having the French toast alone. The eggs benedict tasted great overall. It was a bit messy trying to eat it along with the croissant because the croissant just doesn't cut well with a butter knife, but overall the dish was great. I'd also like to give remarks to the service as well. They were friendly and quick with their services. In all honest I stopped for a bathroom break, but of course I wasn't going to leave without purchasing something. I purchased a few somethings, including a marionberry macaron for my daughter (she seemed to be a fan) one of my mom's favorites, a pavlova. I don't know if I've seen pavlova at a bakery before and mom was thrilled to have a little mini one. I think it's probably been over 20 years since she's had one and she said it was delicious. Visited this spot a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Ordered the Baked Eggs a la Francaise, Chorizo Hash Scramble, Pavlova, Napoleon and a Pistachio Mini Macaron. Both the Baked Eggs a la Francaise and the Chorizo Hash Scramble were great, but the baked eggs were my favorite! It's poached eggs with grilled hash browns, sautéed mushroom and ham, topped with gruyère béchamel and Swiss cheese gratiné. It's served with toasted baguette slices and it was so fresh and tasty. I wasn't the biggest fan of the pistachio macaron, but the other two desserts were great and out of the two, the Napoleon was the best. Omg, the pastries at this place are phenomenal! I love bread and pastries that I've tried many places in mostly Seattle. But this place offers a wide variety of pastries and cakes at fair price with high quality ingredients. I noticed great craftsmanship in these beautiful creations. So appreciated. We've tried their fruits tart with happy Mother's Day chocolate for Mother's Day weekend, eclair, pavlova, a croissant, apple turnover and baguette. Fruits on the tart were so fresh and sweet. Custard on the tart and eclair were just right in sweetness, creamy and melt in your mouth. Pavlova had great texture with crispy meringues, cream and slight tartness from raspberries. It seems like this is one of their chain stores that multiple locations in Portland and Vancouver. It's a keep in the repeat list. read more

I have been going to this location since the year they opened. Back when they had dinner. Before I could consume alcohol (I was 20, it's been about 15 years). I was treated crappily by staff who I observed saying my order was not their responsibility. Not everyone there was bad. The initial service I got was good, but my coffee was so poorly slapped together because I spoke up. My sandwich was also slapped together missing ingredients I paid for, so enjoy the extra money I guess. Here's how the interaction went. I was assured my mocha would be ready in a few minutes, before my food, from a really nice staff person who too my to-go order. They instructed me where to stand. I watched the person put together my mocha. All that was needed was ice. My food came out quickly and I took it while waiting for my drink. 15 minutes passed. Two staff members looked at my drink and one said "who put this here " and another person said "I don't know, not my problem". I spoke up and said "hey that's my drink and if you put ice in it, I promise I'll get out of your way" - it was busy and packed. I was trying to be understanding. One of them made a disgusted face at me and said "I was gonna put ice in it!!!" ... wow. Eventually they did. And did it so sloppily that there was mocha all over the drink. The top was put on poorly and the drink spilled all over me. I tried to tell another server who was greeting and seating people but they kept saying "oh it's okay! It's totally fine" - no, it actually isn't. I get it. You don't want my business of 15+ years, but there are nicer ways of conveying that. I was ripped off and treated in a way I don't treat my enemies. But just like my order, that's "not your problem", right? read more

We are in the area and wanted something upscale for brunch and this did not disappoint. I went for the raspberry mojito French toast and oh my goodness it was terrific. It had a citrus filling between a couple of slices with some raspberry sauce on top of two slices of perfectly cooked very tender brioche bread. I had a side of bacon to go with it and I thought it couldn't have been any better. I was surprised about the response from earlier reviewers. The wife went for the traditional eggs benedict and it was cooked perfection. The eggs were just just right. The Benedict sauce was terrific. The French croissant separated this Benedict from the others she had had and it made it truly amazing. Couldn't ask for anything better. Service was good. I want to start out by saying I have not had a bad meal at this location in the past, but today was next level bad. My client and I both decided to order croissants. She had the breakfast sandwich and I had the pre-baked ham and cheese from the display case. The server brought them to us and the bottom of my croissant was so soggy that it looked like it had been sitting in a plate of water for 5 minutes. When I asked the server how it was heated (which I did not ask for) he said the microwave. I told him I thought so because the bottom was soggy and the top was rubbery. So disappointed and he seemed unaffected by the issue. He brought us the bill and said sorry in passing, but never offered to toast it or grab one that was not heated. To make matters worse, I ordered a latte and it arrived almost cold. I think we just stopped by on a bad day. This is not the usual experience. Was super excited to try out this place for brunch! They have an extensive menu and serve breakfast and lunch all day. I ordered the corned beef hash and the banana French toast to share. The corned beef hash was super yummy, and a very large portion. The French toast was a little too soggy for me, so I would skip on that. Also they give you a free croissant with your meal + jam. Their croissant is so so good, baked fresh, and pairs perfectly with their homemade jam. I feel like if you wanted something sweet to pair with your breakfast, this is the perfect addition. This was one of the first restaurants I tried when I moved to the area over 10 yrs ago. I love that the baked goods are still just as delicious and the beauty of this location still shines. Early on a weekday there is plenty of parking and seating. The service was appropriate, we did not feel rushed or ignored. The menu is their classic menu and I finally tried the Polenta and eggs. Poached eggs are not my favorite and I felt for me they needed a little more time to cook. To someone else they would be perfect. The polenta and vegetables were delicious and when I reheated my extras the eggs cooked to more my liking. Of course we had some pastries and my companions reported the savory croissants were delicious. My plain croissant was delicious as well and filling since I was taking more of my main meal home. I've heard so much about the cancel culture. I was raised in the consequence culture. I believe the cancel culture has evolved from people that do not like consequences and want to blame others. I spend money in stores where I'm welcomed. My wife walked into the restaurant while I finished a phone call outside. I went in after to join her and admire the lovely desserts in the case. We waited while the gentlemen in front of us finished his order and was shocked when the sales guy looked at us and walked away. Not only did he leave he grabbed his stuff and went behind the employees only area. There we stood for another 3 to 5 minutes. There were at least 5 people working in the area and not one checked to see if we needed any attention. I finally waved some attention to us and asked for a manager. Funny thing, after I asked for the manager, the waitress/customer service lady asked if we would like to be seated. At this point no thank you. Just the manager please. I informed the manager of the service level and my disappointment of the staff's lack of professionalism with helping every customer no matter of race. I was met with less than friendly glares from patrons and the lady at the counter was not much better than the pretentious patrons. I really wanted to feel good energy here, as I wanted to suggest my family visit here when they visit for a foodie tour. Im new to town but long in the review game and will continue to keep it 100% honest. As an annoyingly particular and well-traveled foodie, Im very excited to explore this city, after all Ive heard. On to the review... I really wanted to like Petite Provence from the minute I walked in and was greeted by the combined smell of coffee and baked goods. Sadly, it was mostly an underwhelming experience as fine bakeries go. From the too-milky iced latte to the Costco-grade pastries, nothing stood out and the aged, dry, freezer-burned Pistachio Macaron was particularly bad. The Eclair was half frozen, never a good sign as the best bakeries make everything fresh in the morning. It was also greasy, reminiscent of buttercream rather than light pastry cream. The blueberry & cheese brioche was a touch stale, dense, dry and nothing like the airy, fluffy, buttery brioche I've tasted at fine french bakeries. Glancing at the tables around me, the food looked of standard diner quality which is to say, some will be just fine with it but, sadly its not for me. This place is awesome! The food is amazing!! My two friends and I shared a dish with sourdough bread and poached eggs, a tuna melt sandwich, and two pastries. Everything tasted really good, especially the pastries! The portions were large enough for us to share without being hungry after the meal. The restaurant is so cute inside and there's a lot of seating. We visited this restaurant around noon on a weekday, and there was a little bit of a line. The hostess got our table ready really quickly, so we only waited for about 5 minutes. The only negative part of eating here is it's a little expensive. It's been a couple of years since I've been here. They have great lunch and lunch items. I had a grilled albacore tuna sandwich and fries. The sandwich is nice and light with a good crunch with diced carrots. The fries are perfectly fried, crunchy on the outside and tender centers. They also have several non alcoholic drinks to choose from and I had their peach tea-initially served in a martini glass! Nice and refreshing. I highly recommend this place.
