Really great experience at SB. A cool and comfortable atmosphere greeted us when we arrived. The wait staff members were attentive and our most amiable server (who doubled as a mixologist) prepared for us some nice cocktails. Everything we ate was delicious. My steak was served just the way I ordered it and was accompanied by an outstanding side of fries with a tasty harissa dip. Desserts were also quite good--my favorite being the mandarine orange panna cotta.

Lovely local French restaurant with polite staff. Wine and spirit selection is great with many to choose from. The Pâté Maison was very good. Complementary bread and bite sized almond cake after dessert is highly appreciated. Recommend for anyone craving French cuisine or fine dining experience in Doylestown.

Outstanding restaurant My husband and I went in late August for our first time. We sat at the bar and were quickly in love with the place after meeting the bartender, Jeremy! He's a true mixologist and he takes his drinks seriously. I ordered the grapefruit martini and my husband ordered a pear martini! Both were excellent! Mine was served with a spoon! We shared the fish soup and a salad. They came separately, which was nice as we could thoroughly enjoy them! I ordered the Bronzino and he ordered the strip steak au poivre! Both were spectacular! This is a must try if you are looking for a great restaurant in Doylestown

Stopped by here randomly and we were so pleasantly surprised. French food that actually is done in a French style!! Service was very good, server was well versed on the dishes and the specials. Music nice, bar tender was making his drinks very well. Place was nice and clean and the seats comfortable. Good menu selection too! Baked Oysters to start, very good! My husband and I both had fish, cooked to perfection! The Ginger soufflé although looked impressive wasn't to our taste but everything else was excellent! Already planning our next visit!

Slate Bleu (Blue Slate) Restaurant is part of a very attractive adaptive reuse of an old brick 19th Century building in Doylestown. For that alone, the structure is worth a close look. The architect gets 5 Stars for adaptation and execution. The restaurant is Au Provence French style look and feel. Dark wood tones, center floor bar, and a quiet sensibility with white tablecloths, benches along the walls, and simple chairs. The bartender (owner?) serves as hostess and maître d., serving drinks to the tables after she makes them. A nice touch. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. The dinner menu is not extensive, but covers all the food groups. The chef is creative and makes the effort to bring his best to his work. We had the Green Salad, Bronzino with a Fruit Salsa Sauce, and for dessert shared a Pistachio Souffle. The salad was basically a fresh spring mix, but with a dressing that tasted weak in combination with the greens. The Bronzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) was very well presented, light tasting with a tasty Mexican-esque fruit salsa combination piled high on the fillet. It was very enjoyable. It was a daily special @ $28 per. Finally, the Souffle was made from scratch and came with a gravy boat full of hot chocolate for pouring into its center. While very light, fluffy and yummy, the $15. plus price was a chill to the digestion. (I knew in advance and decided to bite the silver bullet in favor of making my companion happy. You know how that is.) So, although Slate Bleu is an attractively appointed French/Country space, and the cuisine is very good for the most part, there is a sticker shock that accompanies the experience. While I would return, it will only be when I have a very special occasion. When a dinner for two comes in over the century mark without drinks, reservations about reservations are appropriate.

Nice atmosphere and delicious food. My entree was under seasoned but perked right up with a little salt. All 3 courses were very enjoyable.

The highlights from our meal- - The staff: seriously. Shout out to them. So welcoming from the start. Never rushed us. Asked us if we needed a break before jumping in to dessert. Attentive without being overbearing. A difficult balance they executed flawlessly. - Sea scallops with black truffle risotto: sensational. I would have licked my bowl if that was acceptable - Squid puttanesca: it's a fine line between undercooked squid til it turns rubbery, and this was an exceptional cook. - Pork tenderloin: flavorful and so moist - Rack of lamb with leeks: a jus you never knew you needed. - Bread pudding: unsung hero of the desserts. The vibe is warm, intimate, and perfect for date night, but they also have a gorgeous outdoor space that can host up to 100 people, making it such a hidden gem for larger parties and celebrations. They opened in September 2019 -- just six months before the pandemic -- which makes what they've built even more impressive. It's truly family-driven. The husband, Manuel (from Spain), is the head chef, and you can absolutely taste the care and authenticity in every dish. Cindy, who is from Panama, brings so much heart to the restaurant as well. We started with Prince Edward Island oysters and the crab salad, which had crispy bacon pieces for a great touch of texture and the crab was incredibly fresh -- such a perfect balance of flavors and crunch. For entrées, the beef bourguignon was rich, comforting, and everything you'd hope for from a classic French dish. The Dover sole felt elegant and perfectly executed. We ended with the chocolate mousse, which was light, decadent, and the perfect sweet finish. And I have to mention our server -- Delroy was fabulous. Attentive, personable, and so knowledgeable. He truly elevated the entire experience. It had been awhile since we dined there last. The problem, service. We arrived a bit early, but were sat right away. The server, Delroy had 5 tables, and we watched as he went back and forth to each table, being jovial and asking each table how was everything. He then came towards our table, and took a swift turn to give more water to the table next to us. He could have at least acknowledged us during his many table visits to every other table, but chose not to. After about 10-15 minutes of waiting he finally decided to greet us. My wife and I do not drink alcohol and the look of disgust on his face when he was removing the wine glasses from our table was quite obvious. At that point he figured a low check amount without selling a bottle of wine, so the effort to give a great dining experience went to zero immediately. He told us the specials and disappeared for another 15 mins. He came back to take our order, and that was the last time he visited our table! We never saw him again. The non alcoholic drinks were delivered by the back waiter, and may I say she was incredibly attentive to us. We were delighted by the appetizer, shrimp and crabmeat in a garlic sauce. Then the entrees came out. We actually enjoyed the appetizer so much, had Delroy decided to visit our table again, or bother to check how everything came out, we would have ordered another one. I wanted another drink, but was unable to get one because he was making multiple table visits to all the other tables, telling stories about his wine experiences, but again, never returned to our table, not even once! We really wanted to order the crème brûlée for dessert as it was my wife's favorite and we were celebrating her birthday, but he refused to come to our table. At this point, we just wanted to pay the check and leave, go somewhere to get dessert and celebrate her birthday. We finished our meal, and I actually had to call out to him as he passed our table to get his attention for the check, he glanced over and said, "one minute" and kept walking. Then he starting walking our way and just passed our table again, and went to water the table next to us for the fourth time, before turning around, staring at me, without a word, as I asked for the check. He said, "no dessert"? I said no, just the check. He sent the back waiter with the check, then picked it up from the table, after processing it, dropped it on our table without a word, and walked away. Against my better judgement, I still left him a 20% gratuity. We left and went elsewhere to celebrate.

We made our reservation the night before and were off. Entering, you immediately notice only about half a dozen tables in the same room the food is prepared. It's a nice setting that is definitely unique. We started with a tomato bisque. It was creamy, smooth, and a great hot soup to start off a chilly winter evening. My main course was the Duck Frites. A generous helping of fries, with a smaller helping of duck strips. The amount of duck was a little disappointing, but it had a good flavor and a touch chewy. It came with an unusual banyuls aioli sauce on the side, that I quite liked. We finished the evening with a crepe cake that was quite large. I would definitely recommend splitting it, but I found it to be lovely sweet way to end the evening. The crepe was probably about ten layers and soft enough to cut through with a spoon. It came served with a raspberry coulis and powdered sugar. The ends were fired to conclude the dish with a light crunch. All and all, I enjoyed my meal at the Little Hen. If you're in the area, it's a nice place to have an upscale meal or a romantic evening in a small town not all too far outside of Philadelphia.
