Scam. They advertise $79 for sliding door. When they get to your house , it turns out to be $325.

This response is from the owner's son, Anthony -- not "Bernard." We chose California Window & Door…read morespecifically because your company had previously completed the same window and door work on an identical model of our home, so the scope of work should not have come as a surprise to your team. The "custom tile repair" became necessary only because your installers damaged and broke tiles during the installation process. During the pre-contract consultation, we were explicitly told that no tile work or revisions would be required. Final payment was withheld because the doors were not functioning properly, and your team prevented the manufacturer from completing the warranty work that was required. There will always be issues that arise during a retrofit window and door installation. The true measure of a company's caliber and professionalism is how those issues are handled and resolved. Attempting to shift blame back onto the customer, rather than taking accountability and working toward a solution, reflects poor business practices.

We special ordered a front entry door from California Window & Door (CWD) that cost over…read more$20,000.00. The installation was messy, and lacked a lot of attention to detail. See pic of the caulking work. Basically we were told by manager Anthony the caulking is as good as it's going to get. For $20,000.00. Also, it came with an unnatural crack. Very frustrating experience. We were also told all the installers were company employees. On their website - they boast "We never subcontract, every installer is an employee of California Window and Door". Mike, our salesperson also told us this. It is in fact a lie. Our installer was a guy named Joe, and when asked about working for the company, he looked me in the eye and said, "No, honestly I do projects for them periodically , but I'm NOT an employee of the company". CWD is deceptive in advertising. Joe actually works for a firm based in Hemet California, no less. He is a subcontractor. We were offered no price adjustment for the crack in the door we waited over six months for. Over $20k. Now our home has at least 7 windows we'd like to have replaced. Needless to say, we'll be going elsewhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In response to Bernard, We dealt with the office staff and Anthony, but it's apparent you're not fully informed with all the details of our experience. This is the first time we've heard of you. CWD, California Window and Door did come back out to attempt to correct the caulking. The picture shown is the AFTER photo. It was much worse before, believe it or not. Again, Anthony indicated that this was as good as it's going to get. We wouldn't want another attempt, we're pretty confident it would do more harm than good. Secondly, these are two big 3 foot by 8 foot doors. These cracks are in only one noticeable area, nowhere else. It is not just a cosmetic characteristic. It is damage, Anthony hinted at a discount, but failed to follow through. He was going to contact the door manufacturer and get back to us, but never did. We were not going to wait for another door. All Anthony wanted was all of our $20,000.00 + Lastly, you defend using your crew, glossing over the fact that you do use Sub contractors, even though California Window and Doors web page says otherwise. Have some integrity and change the language on your website. You do use Subcontractors, but say you don't. Unbelievable. Enough of this.

When our double door arrived, it was missing a hole, which was understandably concerning, but they immediately arranged for Alex to come out and fix it. He helped us arrive at a suitable energy-efficient Simonton models to replace 5 of our windows at a reasonable price. He also measured all the windows to be replaced and promptly provided a written quote. Three of our replacements were for original 30+ year-old single-hung windows which were no longer functional because their balances had failed. The replacement Simonton windows have a better design that obviates the need for such balances, which was of added value to me! The total window order, measured and made to order, was received by JWG within 3 weeks and installed within 1 week. JWG Windows arrived just minutes before the scheduled time for installation. We were fortunate to have a second installation crew (Alex and Ricky) join the first crew (EJ and Cody) during the installation process, which allowed the entire job to be done within 2.5 hours. These two teams operated smoothly together in good spirits, were respectful of our property (using drop cloths in each work area) and cleaned up the work areas. After they were installed, EJ demonstrated the windows' operating features, provided me with the manufacturer's warranty and answered my questions. (The self-latching worked a bit differently than I expected, which actually was an improvement!) The windows look great and are a pleasure to use! Nice work, JWG!

Beware of those that make false statements…read more First, Tom (John) Libby is NOT a contractor - he was, now has ceased to keep his license active. Next, he is NOT insured as a contractor, so if your job is over $600, do not hire him. Lastly, he does BEAUTIFUL gates, but then the execution of installing them is absolutely, 100% terrible. I would never recommend someone who has such disdain for his clients that he abandons the job, which Tom did for us. I hired Tom to build and install a gate at our La Quinta home. He was referred by a neighbor. He gave me the price, what he would do, and I hired him. He sent pictures of the project, everything looked good, no issues. He then scheduled the installation and made a mistake on his calculations, so he was going to have to chisel out some of the brick to get the gate in, but assured me that he would do the finish work and make it all complete. He then chiseled out the brick, installed the gate a little off-center (to be honest, you wouldn't know unless I pointed it out), filled in some of the brick with caulk, and told me that he would come tomorrow to finish it up and install the door stopper, too. No problem. All good. The gate looked great. I paid him in full (Yes, I'm stupid). THEN, nothing... he promised he'd come back, never did. Said excuse this, excuse that... then ghosted me (took the money, never came back to finish). I have the texts... honesty is honesty... then, I told him that if he didn't finish, my guys would (which they did), so I asked for the money back - he didn't finish his job, no insurance on my property, took a job over $600 without a contractor's license, and literally didn't want to come back to spend time fixing the damage to my side gate area where he chiseled out the block. I would only have him build the gate.. I wouldn't ever let him set foot on my (or your) property. It's so simple to do work in any area - do what you say, protect your name, etc. This guy? Don't make the same mistake... -La Quinta Homeowner

James, the owner of Lucero's Windows and Doors, not only offered the best price but was also extremely responsive. He mentioned that he previously worked as a Home Depot installer, which gave me confidence that he was properly trained. I was initially cautious because of the low number of reviews, but the consistent perfect scores from other customers made me optimistic. Now, after working with him, I can confidently say that Lucero's Windows and Doors is the real deal. Because our home required a custom-sized door, James came out twice to take measurements. After about two weeks, the custom entry door arrived, and he completed the installation in a single day. He is a nice guy and during one of our chats told me he and his gf lived in a trailer behind Home Depot and heating bills were high. His gf did not work. I felt bad and told him that if I was satisfied with his work, I would let him replace my patio. Up to that point the paint job he did was fine. Covid hit and future work had to be temporarily halted. I asked him several times to return my key but he never did. I found out why. He and his gf and pets were squatting and partying in my home. The white berber carpet was now dark gray with cigarette ashes and pet stains. The bed was unmade and the new bedspread and sheets stained with bodily fluids. The new carpet in the bathrooms had apparently been saturated with water and there was mold. The toilets were not only stained but one upstairs toilet that Jon had gone with me to pick out and make sure I got the right one leaked all over the floor and stained the ceiling beneath. I suppose living in a beautiful townhome with central air and heat sure beats a trailer. Glassware and items used to stage the home were also missing. Other then myself, the only other person with a key was Jon. I immediately called the police and made a police report. They told me I could press charges but since for all intents and purposes Jon was indigent, the only thing that would happen is a bit of jail time. I would never recover for the damage he had done. It was the LAPD that suggested I write a review. BTW, Jon also mentioned that on another occasion he was accused of entering a home he was working on w/o permission and actually causing more damage then he had been hired to fix. This couple threatened to sue Jon and refused to pay him. When Jon told me this story, I believed he had been wronged but now not only do I wish the couple had left a review, I wish I had seen the red flag. As the police suggested, I posted a review last year which Jon responded to via a private message ( which I kept) laden with expletives and wishes that I die. He also managed to get my honest review removed. I have learned a very valuable lesson. From now on I will only use professional people or people recommended by someone I personally know. In my effort to save a few dollars, I ended up spending a whole lot more to replace carpeting, toilets, towels, bedspread, sheets and pillows and repair the mold and ceiling stains. It's too easy to get a group of friends to write stellar reviews and Yelp does not vet its businesses. All I can say is caveat emptor. Do your due diligence and by all means if you insist on hiring Jon, do not entrust him with your key, and make sure someone is on the premises when he is there.

Jeff was our sales representative and he was very courteous and helped guide us thru the process. We wanted to ensure getting a set of windows changed and he helped do an initial measure and then gave us a run down presentation of our options and the technology behind the windows being replaced ( retrofits). We even had a chance to talk about grids and learn new terms and technology about the windows themselves! Jeff was super patient with us and answered all our questions, even as we had little ones to deal with around the home. What mattered the most was we were not pressured to move forward, we felt a big sense of confidence in the level of detail as well as clarity in the process. My wife was happy so we were sold to move forward! Leading up to the installation and waiting for windows to be ready, it was around a 4 week turnaround. Nina from the office was extremely insightful on reminders and communications. She helped answer small questions quickly via text which really helped. We also got notifications of an additional meeting with our installers, Jesse and James to ensure the windows were measured correctly. On the day of installation, Jesse and James arrived promptly at 7am as they had promised. They were very professional, navigated thru our tight corners and items in the hallways. They were very courteous of noise and did a very thorough job to install the new windows. The installation of the windows and chaulking work was top notch, they look beautiful inside and out.
