I just used Sliding Door Guru for the second time. I have a 16 ft wide Milgard vinyl double door system. 3 years ago one door was opening very stubbornly. Karl came and replaced the rollers and the track been thoroughly cleaned up. He uses all new rollers and a stainless steel track that was engineered specifically for the door. That door has worked excellently and now the other side got stubborn and hard to open so I had him repair that side also. I just had the rollers replaced on my sliding glass door! What a difference this makes! Door was so hard to open, at times, that I needed to use both hands to do so. I am disappointed in this person's professionalism. My husband reached out to Karl yesterday to get information about getting a couple of sliding screen doors replaced. We get a quote and he says he can stop by that day to measure things out. Then radio silence. Not even a "hey, sorry I'm swamped can we reschedule?" This morning at 6:20am... 6:20am on a Saturday...) Karl texts my husband if we are free today. Well, first of all... why no communication yesterday? Not even an acknowledgement? Okay... so he is given a window of time of when I would be home. I arrange my day to make sure I am home on time... then nothing. No call, no text nothing. I have a lot of sympathy and patience for independent businesses, especially when it's a very small business. However I have never encountered no-call no-show two days in a row and that is absolutely unacceptable. Pro tip to you Karl: If you're busy it's okay to say you don't have openings for a few days or even week or so. I am realistic in not getting someone the same day. But this is just ridiculous. Please learn some professional boundaries, time management, and improve on your communication. I was originally going to give one star however as I was writing this, my husband said he finally got back and apologized for not communicating and not showing up. I gave the Sliding Door Guru a 5 star rating because Karl (the owner) and Ian (his helper) deserve it. My sliding glass door glides better than when it was first installed 10 years ago! All these years of having to exert effort to open and close the door thinking it was because the door was extra large and heavy when all it needed was the way Carl worked his magic on the track and rollers. Now it opens and closes with the push of one finger. Amazing! Carl also was the only company owner to come out the same day I called for an estimate and then did the work two days later-on a Sunday!-days ahead of any other company who I was considering to do the job. Not sure I would use this business since their way of advertising is to basically scatter their business cards all over the streets of La Jolla. Let me explain; yesterday I was taking a walk near Windansea Beach in La Jolla and I started to see these distinctive red and white business cards in front of several houses. Most were on the sidewalk but others were in the landscaping. After walking at least a half mile and seeing 20 or more I started taking pictures. (See photos attached ab) At first I thought a batch of cards may have fallen out of a vehicle accidentally but I soon realized they were to well placed and this went on for to long on several different streets. Additionally, the cards are printed on both sides so it didn't matter when they just threw them on the street because they would be notable whichever way they landed. I tried to contact Karl, apparently the owner, to let him know but he just ignored me. I can't say I'm surprised. Maybe keep this in mind when you're selecting a business to repair your sliding glass doors. read more

This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to leave a negative review. Steer clear of these guys. We had 2 sliding doors that were sticking and 3 screens that needed to be re screened. They charged over $5,000 and told me they just needed to come back tomorrow to put on the new handles. I have Sierra Pacific three panel accordion doors that were installed about six years ago. Over the years the doors became harder and harder to open and close properly. I called Sliding Door Guru and Karl immediately picked up my call and said he'd be in the area later that day and would check it out. This job normally requires cutting drywall in order to install the new track, however, the Door Guru has a special, custom made tool to get the job done without the mess and cost of cutting the drywall. The track system he installed is the best on the market and the door now slides like butter. These guys are great and do excellent work. This is in Chula Vista: We have a 5 panel huttig sliding door that had become very difficult to slide near the end panels. He came out promptly and quoted a hellacious amount $8000.00 saying he may have to dig out the concrete patio but he'd have them working like new and guarantee them for 10 years and would fix any problem that arose. After starting the job he said he wouldn't have to dig out the concrete and lowered the price to approximately $5000. He did most the work himself in one day, and needed cash which I gave him $1500. I told him doors opened much easier but not the way they were when first installed. He said he'd see what he could do. He came back the next day, installed the insulation stripping and touch up the paint but didn't improve the doors. He left in a huff and would not return our phone calls or text messages (the insulation strip was already coming out). After a couple months he calls and shows up banging on our door at 7 a.m. demanding payment in full plus more (what a master). He got his money but never fixed the doors or weather stripping correctly. I do not recommend using him and do not want to have anything to do with him again. He has serious issues. read more

We had a sliding door that was jammed with all kinds of issues. He did a fantastic fix! The door works better now then when we purchased the house four years ago! We had another slider we were not able to shut and latch for the last four years. They fixed it and wow it closes and latches!! We had a slider door person come about a year ago to assess the door that would not close and latch. He said the door was warped due to the sun and we would need a new door. Carl came to fix the lock on our La Cantina accordion door, which had jammed. At the end of the day, he left us a hefty bill. When we tested the door, it immediately jammed back up. While disappointing, I get that issues like this can happen on the job. I was fully prepared to give Carl another try at fixing the problem. That is, until we discovered that he actually hadn't reinstalled all the pieces after taking the lock apart. There are rods on the top and bottom that secure the door in place. The rod on the bottom was missing. We confirmed via security camera footage from our backyard that they had attempted to put the rod back, but apparently couldn't figure it out. So, they packed it up instead and didn't say anything to us. Our door was actually in worse shape after the appointment! When I refused to pay their bill, Carl sent me harassing, profanity-laced text messages for several days (until I finally blocked his number). Obviously, I would not hire these guys again. Update: I never heard back as mentioned above, but 9 months later (4/22/2017) the owner posted a response to my comment. Not the responsiveness I wanted as a customer, and if I'm not happy I want you to make it right with me, don't just give my money to charity and think everything is OK.
