You know, the people who were Karens way before we had a collective name for the personality type? In my case, the HOA was big mad about some small holes in a window screen. To his answer below that's not true, all I will say is use him and you will see what I mean. He work more harder to getting bad reviews on him removed then his handyman work. I have the receipts for every job he has done and he got what he ask for. This time around he gave me price for two things $100 to add screw to toilet seat he originally installed 7 months ago and broke. The $100 also he said would include him putting two brackets up in my back dean to hang curtains. So $100 he wanted to charge to fix seat he didn't install properly earlier this year and two brackets to hang my curtains up. I couldn't afford $100 at the time so I gave him $30 to $40 bucks he charged me to fix's toilet seat he originally installed earlier this year. So now I can afford the brackets I tell him I have $40 to $50 which would be around the price he was going to charge when he came out first time to fix toilet. Also if I'm asking if you can come to do something for a price. Professional way is saying no it will be this price and no discount for you no matter how much work I have done for you with some of work that was messing up. Messed up on toilet seat and my son door he good for a cheap price and needing something rigged temporary but the prices he charging like if he's 5 star. I contacted Precision Home Improvement Services to hang some curtains, shelves, and pictures. I spoke to Derek on the phone twice about the job, tools needed, and setup an installation time. He came over, and when I told him again the shelves needed to be installed into studs (not anchors, and it came with the proper screws for studs) he said he doesn't have a reliable stud finder and didn't want to buy one. I was immediately very unhappy that he wasted my time, and showed him the door. He also reeked of smoke, and was not wearing a mask. Check his work if you decide to hire him. We hired Derek, the sole owner and operator for a simple drywall patch and window screen replacement job, which he claimed would be done in an afternoon. Neither was finished before he angrily walked off the job. He did the drywall patching without protecting our carpets, which we now have to have cleaned. He claimed that he couldn't finish because he didn't have a product he needed (Orange Peel Wall Texture) and that there was a "national shortage". A simple internet search turned up thousands of units of it all over San Diego. We showed him the listings and he claimed that he couldn't get it because if he went to the store people would be fighting over it, there was such a terrible shortage. We pointed out that the patches were uneven and he told us they were supposed to be that way. He claimed that it would "all work itself out" once we put the Orange Peel on. We reminded him that he'd already committed to putting the Orange Peel on and he admitted that it was part of his job, but said that he didn't know if/when he could finish it. Our window screens didn't fit in our windows. There were large gaps between the screens and the sills which he claimed was the proper way for a window screen to be installed. When we said we didn't think the window screens would work because bugs could get in he claimed that it was our responsibility to make them bug-proof by using weatherproofing tape to fill in the gaps. When we told him that we thought it was possible for window screens to be installed without needing additional sealing with tape he accused us of undermining him in front of his client (we are clients) and told us that if we thought we could do it better we should do it ourselves, then he walked off the job. Then he came back and knocked on our door because he'd forgotten his phone. We went and found his phone for him, and tried to have a calm, polite conversation with him. Unfortunately he was still in a rage, and all he could do was insist that if we thought we knew how a window screen should be installed we should do it ourselves, then he cussed at us and left again. Now we're out 80% of the money for the job that isn't done (to his credit Derek did tell me I could keep the final payment for the job) and it looks like we'll have to hire a different company to come out and correct his mistakes. read more

First off, let me say that where Derek excels is in communication. He responds immediately to texts and calls. Secondly, he also excels in availability. He made our project his project, and our schedule his priority, even though he had other things going on. We needed a wall between our kitchen and our living room demolished, and the master bathroom torn out as well. Derek tore out the wall, labeled all of the wires for the electrician, and left the work area spotless. The same thing in the bathroom - he tore out the old shower and left the area spotless. He jackhammered the kitchen floor so that we could run electricity and gas to a new kitchen island, and did the concrete patching. He worked closely with his (excellent) electrician to keep the project going forward. Again, he left the area spotless at the end of each day. He facilitated our getting our pretty major remodel done in three weeks. He worked around cabinet installers, flooring guys and tiling guys, doing the extra jobs that needed to be done. Buyer Beware. I hired Derek the sole owner and operator to replace a bedroom door for me. I took weeks before he came over to take the measurements and then when he finally came over to replace the door the it was the wrong size. He took the door on my rooftop and trimmed it down and failed to secure the screw in the bottom hinge causing the door to scrap against my wooden floors/ the door does not open or close properly. I contacted Derek to come and fix these errors and he became irate and nasty and very unprofessional refusing to fix what he had failed to do without charging me $60 an hour for his bad work.
