I've been a big fan of Slim's for a while now; it's my favorite hangover cure! I was in the area returning a scarf and decided to dine in at my savior spot, sans the hangover. I had to see if the magic was there, you know? I'm happy to report that the in person experience is even nicer than delivery! I ordered a chili cheese dog and a fountain drink and was thrilled to see that they have a Coke Freestyle machine, one of my guiltiest pleasures. After devouring my delicious hot dog, I decided to grab another one and the cashier only charged me for the difference on their 2 hot dog daily special. This was super considerate of her considering I didn't order it initially and I really appreciated it! They had a ton of delivery drivers in and out the door on a rainy weekday as well as a decent amount of eat in and take out guests. I'm glad they're so busy. To satisfy my craving for burgers I search for a place or resto in this app to find where I should eat. It has good reviews on yelp. Talking about how good their food is .It's 5 km away from my house. So I grabbed my keys and went to my car to drive to Slim's. They have a clean floor. I went to the order station. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Sandwich and an Italian beef sandwich. The grilled chicken sandwich was delicious. The chicken inside was crunchy yet juicy. It has a lot of veggies which I like. While the Italian beef sandwich was pretty good. The beef has a good seasoning. It's yummy. Due to covid they have a shortage of meat so the prices of meat have increased. We enjoy a good Chicago hot dog but are vegetarian. Slims gets the veggie dog prep just right. Grilled or just warmed veggie dog with the perfect Chicago fixings. The elotes bites or the cheese fries are great add-ons if you are feeling indulgent. Honestly my boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed with our meal. We ordered through Uber eats. On yelp the pictures looked good so we thought we'd give it a try. Both our burgers had absolutely no flavor. My boyfriends lettuce was turning brown on his burger (not pictured cause he ended up eating it). My bacon was weirdly colored and stringy. The pretzel bun was also not the move it had zero flavor. Our bag was soggy when it arrived to us. The fries were probably the best thing about this meal. However since everyone else had different opinions, we're honestly debating on coming into the restaurant and seeing if dining in will be a different experience. read more

Down from 5 stars. Slims is under new ownership and has increased prices. I agree that Slims has always been very cheap for the quality and neighborhood and am not opposed to paying more. I disagree with a 50-90% price increase which feels excessive. a burger and fries that used to cost me $8.49 + tax, is now $13.49 + tax. two hot dogs and fries that used to cost me $5.99 + tax (admittedly a frickin steal), is now $9.99 + tax. for prices like this, I can walk a block further to the bad apple. read more

New management ruined this place. Kept giving it a chance until the price increases happened. I understand it's for the switch to Halal, but it's a terrible tactic that will put a once 5 star hotdog joint out of business. I was a regular until I learned that I had to pay $3 more for the same product. The staff is not as good as the old one, the music is too loud, delivery drivers waiting for orders take up the few seats that are in there, and the biggest disappointment from when new management took over: they didn't even have the World Series game playing on the tv IN A HOTDOG JOINT! This is the best burger & hot dog joint in Chicago. Period. It's also Halal, so if you're a trump fan, this isn't a good spot, but if you love Obama and you just love great food then this place will blow your pants off. Side note: To all my joint lovers, this is the pothead's dream restaurant. If only it was open late night so I could come binge on a proper burger after a night out. On my first night in town from Phoenix, I got a hankering for a Chicago dog. I found Slim's on Yelp and decided to walk over to try it out. Even though it was freezing cold and I was still dressed for Phoenix weather, it was totally worth it. My whole travelling party made it back a few days later and tried various menu items including dogs, sausage, burgers and salads (I am reluctant to claim the person who travels to Chicago to eat a salad) and it was all great. After dinner, several of us tried their milkshakes and they were thick and delicious. The caramel Oreo may be the best shake I've ever eaten. The same person worked the counter both nights that I visited and she was delightful. Our party of seven was loud and chaotic and had several special orders but she somehow managed to get everything right. So, if you're reading this and wondering if you should go to Slim's, put your phone down and get moving. read more

Hands down this place gets better every time I eat here. Their double cheeseburger is second to none and if you really feel like you want to go into a food coma, the slim is going to put you there. A must order is the elotes with their spicy mayo sauce (which is actually spicy). Not to mention, their staff is awesome and very nice, and extremely patient since I couldn't figure out how much of the menu I wanted to eat. To mother nature lovers, it'll knock your socks off. I saw good reviews for this place so I stopped and ordered a gyros and fries. They served me dry darkened gyro meat which was cold. I asked if they had cut off fresh meat for the gyros and they said yes. This was obviously not the case. Ordered on grubhub but strangely can't leave a review there. All I really want to say is that their item descriptions are inaccurate. I ordered 2 cheese dogs, and an order of cheese fries. The cheese sauce is described as "melted cheddar." It is in fact not melted cheddar. It is very obviously spicy nacho cheese sauce. I can't eat spicy food due to dietary restrictions. Had I known what the cheese sauce actually is I would not have ordered it. So I wasted $30+ on food I can't eat. I'm unsure if their menu items have simply changed, and they just failed to update their menu to match what the items actually are or what. Regardless I'm quite salty about this. read more

Slim's was something that my boyfriend, his friend and I came across while searching through GrubHub. Any place that combines two great dishes, such as Italian beef and a cheeseburger, you cannot pass up. I wanted to do a little more digging before placing my order. We checked Yelp to see the images of the food and to see what people honestly thought of the food. Everyone raved about the "the slim" which is the combo burger and the pictures made my mouth water. I thought to myself that I was destined to have that burger in my life. The ordering process was pretty quick and painless. Two of us ordered the slim and one of us ordered the two hot dog combine. We were beyond excited because like I said, you cannot pass up the opportunity for this glorious invention. The unfortunate thing is that GrubHub gave us a delivery window that ranged between 70 to 90 minutes from the time we placed the order. We were slightly bummed but we decided it was well worth it. The food ended up getting to our location well before the original delivery time so it was now time to eat! We shocked to find out that the slim didn't automatically come with fries. What kind of place holds out on fries? My boyfriend's hot dog combo came with fries so I got to try the fries from Slim's. I can gladly say that I was no longer upset about not getting fries. They looked and tasted disgusting. They were stone cold and looked like they had been sitting out just waiting for someone to order them. Now on to the glorious slim burger. It extremely mediocre. The Italian beef meat made the burger taste extremely dry which was disappointing. My boyfriend said the hot dog was good but the hot dog bun was a little dry which distracted him from enjoying the hot dog fully. Slim's is awesome, with one failing. There food is great. Exactly what you expect from American style food. Just the right amount of seasoning and not to much or too little. What you see is what you get. They deliver really fast too. When they say it'll be there in x amount of time it's there, sometimes with time to spare. Sorry Slim's but I've gotta talk about the one gripe that I have. There's always...alllllways something wrong with my order. Just one thing, but it's always there. 3 times ago there was no straw with my shake. 2 times ago you forgot my soup. Last time you forgot my curly fries. This time you forgot the cheese on my cheese dog. *sigh*. Every time I want to get quick, reliable food, I reach for you on grubhub. But you really need to get your act together. WOW...this place sure believes in customer care! I ordered two chili&cheese fries, strawberry shake and two steak sandwiches. When the delivery got here , the cheese sauce and chili wasn't in the bag.They didn't even put a straw for the shake. I called to complain.They were sorry and wanted to send the order back out. I told them it's ok and just credited me for something later in the week. An hour later their delivery driver was at the gate with my whole order. The patties were super dried out, the bacon was bacon bits, my burger was missing toppings, the onion rings were crazy over fried with barely any onion and not flavorful. The fries were good though! I dig a neighborhood hot dog joint where "with fries" is not merely a perfunctory syntactical obligation. At Slim's, those ubiquitous sides are the hand-cut variety, prepared expertly and portioned generously (too generously, actually). In short, they are as much a reason to visit as the sandwiches which are these joints' ostensible raisons d'etre. The rest of the fare is pretty solid too, though. Hot dogs, polish, and the like are all decent. I actually love their chicken club best of all, and their italian beef is among the few best that I have ever had in our great city. Coke Zero in the fountain and Heinz ketchup on the tables--and a Miss Pac-Man machine! These guys are obviously trying harder than the vast majority of their competition. First impression, seems like a nice enough neighbourhood place for a bite to eat. Food - Hot Dog was on the menu for me. Finely steamed bun and day glow relish made this a great example of the Chicago dog. Lots of fresh cut fries are always appreciated piping hot and salted just right... yum Menu is extensive and worth another visit for sure. Luckily on the last day we were near Slim's which is extremely well regarded on Yelp, so we dropped in for a hotdog and some cheese fries. It's a small diner style restaurant. There's not much seating, but our group of four easily scored a table. I had the Chicago hotdog, and though not a super healthy lunch option, it wasn't overly greasy of heavy compared to some of the other burgers and sandwiches on offer. Finally. When I travel to other cities, I like to sample the indigenous junk cuisine in addition to higher-end and more exotic fare. In Chicago, of course, junk cuisine largely means deep-dish pizza, Chicago dogs, and Italian beef sandwiches. In several past visits, I've been able to appreciate the deep-dish, but have been perplexed by the mediocrity of the dogs and Italian beef at a couple of chain-ish spots where we've sampled them. Slim's, though, goes a long way toward justifying the Chicago-dog and Italian-beef hype. For the first time in my experience, the Chicago dog toppings seemed to meld harmoniously. The dog itself tasted high-quality. The Italian beef and its juices had more depth of flavor than you'd expect in a five-buck sandwich. Curly fries were tasty, too. Slim's has a bare-bones, almost snack-bar kind of feel. Which is just fine for this kind of fare. Plus the place looked clean and sharp, and the service was snappy. read more

My grandma will visit us. It's been a long time since we saw each other. She likes a salad so I went to this place to buy her a salad. Their salad was really fresh. I spend 10 minutes of waiting before it served to me. The good thing was their packaging was nice. I only ordered Cobb Salad and Mixed Green Salad. Cobb Salad has a fresh Romaine Salad, Tomatoes, Hard-boiled eggs, Beef Bacon, Avocado, & Blue cheese, served with Honey Mustard Dressing. Mixed Green Salad has a mixed green, dried cranberry, granny smith apples, roasted walnuts, crumbled blue cheese with strawberry vinaigrette dressing. There are a lot of little hot dog stands and hamburger shacks in Chicago and throughout the Chicagoland area. Slim's Chicago is one of the better ones. I have eaten here a few times. They have all of the Chicago standbys, but also some other really good options. Yes, you can get a very good Chicago style hot dog, which I have and it's really good. However, I have also ordered some other good food there. On one recent trip I ordered a delicious (and messy) chili cheese dog. On my most recent visit, I ordered a double cheese burger with fries, Cobb salad and chocolate peanut better milkshake. First, the Cobb salad was huge. It was so big, I ended up saving it for later. It was be an entire meal unto itself. Second, the milkshake was excellent. It was thick, but not so think that you couldn't drink it through stray right away. Also, the chocolate and peanut butter was blended perfectly. It would get this again and again. Third, the double cheese burger was amazing. Both of the patties are large and beefy and it stuff with toppings, including a lot of cheese. While their hot dogs are great, their burgers are a good alternative. Over all, you have a lot of choices to get a hot dog or a hamburger in Chicago, this place should be on your short list. read more
